    Is there an easy and quick way I can create a new subdomain on a windows based domain controller. My primary domain controller is also my primary DNS server on my network. I want to create a subdomain and have its ip directed to that of my IIS server. Thanks in advance... Sorry if my terminology is somewhat lacking... My domain is companyName.com What I want to do is create auditingResults.companyName.com... and have it route to 192.168.1.3 for example..... where on 1.3 I will have an IIS server presetup. Please feel free to leave comments to correct my terminology if required....

  • Computer Invisible On Domain

    Good afternoon, I'm sorry that this isn't a programming question specifically, but stackoverflow has been great at answering questions in the past, so I thought I'd give it a shot. One of our Linux users attempted to install Cygwin on our Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller. Now it is no longer possible to browse the domain and see all of the computers. For example, \\my_domain_name will just bring up a username/password dialog box (that will not accept any username or password, even the domain administrator) and no computers will ever be listed. However, I can still connect to computers based on their name or IP address. So \\eridanus or \\192.168.1.85 still work to connect to the shared directories of computers on our network. Does anyone know where I can find these settings? and how I can fix this problem? Thanks, Giawa

    I do have a third party product (Jira) that has Active Directory integration via LDAP. I want to enable Jira administrators to edit group memberships and have them syncronized inside Active Directory. This currently works but I needed to use a Domain Administrator service account in order to do this. The question is how can I do this without giving the entire Domain Administrator permission to the service account.

  • Allow connection to certain port from specified domain

    I got two domains, which are pointing on the same IP address, I can use both to connect to the server or certain port (TeamSpeak), the problem is that I would like the only one domain from those two to be working while connecting to a certain port. Eg. example.com points at the 11.22.33.44 -- allow connection to the certain port from this domain. sample.com points at the 11.22.33.44 -- disallow connection to the port specified above from this domain. I know this would be possible for the IP addresses, but would it be possible for the domains?

    I have created A VM running Windows Server 2008 R2, using VMWare. I have configured this as a domain controller running a Windows Server 2008 domain. I have also created another VM running Windows Server 2008 R2. The HOST machine is using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. When I try to add the second VM into the domain that the first is the DC for it fails as the VM cannot contact the DC. Simple question really. What have I missed? Is it something to do with the configuration on the Host machine? What do I need to do to enable this scenario? Thanks

    When I sign up for an account with a domain name registrar like 10dollar.ca, it asks for my address and phone number. Will these show up when someone does a WHOIS lookup on my domain name? I noticed that when you do a WHOIS lookup on some websites (e.g. http://www.chrismanieri.ca), no address/phone number comes up. I want mine to be like that, too (don't want my address/phone number exposed to the public).

    How would I go about allowing a 'domain user' to install software on their computer. I have active directory and group policy in place. Is there a setting in group policy that would allow this? I don't really want to make the domain users domain admins as well. There is a way to do this by adding the user to their local admins group under computer management. I need this for about 50 users so that gets to be a long process with that many users. Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 Client Machines: Windows 7

  • Domain Controller died, now get authentication boxes in IE for SDL Tridion 2009

    We had a major network issue where our secondary domain controller (responsible for Win2k3 boxes) died and had to be rebuilt (I beleive this is what happened, I am a developer not network admin). Anyway, I am working remotely via VPN at the moment and since this happened, I am getting an authentication box when trying to access certain areas of SDL Tridion via IE (Tridion 2009 SP1 is IE only) it seems like somewhere my credentials are not being passed correctly or the ones cached on my laptop do not match the ones the Domain Controller has. This only seems to affect Windows 2003 servers. Our IT support thinks that the only way to sort it out is to connect my laptop directly to the network. I am not planned to go to the office for a few weeks at least and this issue means I have to work with Tridion via Remote Desktop. We thought changing the password on my account might work but this didn't help. So basically my question is, is there any way I can reset my credential cache without having to reconnect to the network? Or is it IE that is causing the problem perhaps, since I can RDP to servers and use Tridion 2011 instances in other browsers fine? I am on Windows 7 using SonicWall VPN client.

  • WHMCS - Mapping of a Manually Created Invoice with its Corresponding Domain

    I am using WHMCS version 4.2.1 for maintaining domain registration & website hosting services, in one of my websites. Currently, the automatic domain registration process is working great for both the existing & new clients. The main way to register domains automatically is to mark the respective invoices as paid, and automatically the domains get registered through my selected registrar. Recently, I am facing a major problem in domain renewals, where the domain has been already registered by us in the past. The problem is that some of the corresponding invoices are not already generated for the domains & so I have to manually create invoice for each of those domain renewals. However, I am unable to map that invoice with the corresponding domain. This is required because unless the domain knows that for its renewal, an invoice has been created, the marking of the invoice as paid will not instantiate the automatic renewal process through my registrar. Can anybody please tell me the probable way of mapping the invoice with its corresponding domain? I've tried to explain the problem as it is occurring in the best way possible. Still, if any more information regarding this is required, please ask. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, Here is the issue. Suppose there is a DOMAIN A which is going to be the server containing a PHP Script file. The data from Domain A is to be accessed by a Client at DOMAIN B. I know it cannot be accessed directly using JavaScript. So what I did is, in Domain A I created a a JavaScript file as front-end for the PHP Script which AJAXes the PHP and returns the data. But unfortunately it din't work I came across an example having PHP as a Middle Man in the client side. But I donot want to keep any server side PHP code as a middle man in the client side. Do i use the same table view but reload it with the sub categories then some how work out when one is click that it's a sub category or is there a better method?   • Use to host email for a domain name that wasn't our primary domain name

    Exchange 2007 on an Server 2003 active directory. My primary domain (MyMainDomain.com) controller also hosts dns and dhcp. I have a secondary domain name (MySecondDomain.net) that my Exchange Server allows emails from. It wasn't a physical domain, just accepted by exchange and setup as the Active Directory user's main smtp and outgoing address. Its MX records point to MyMainDomain.com's public exchange address. I've taken MySecondDomain.net and move the mail boxes to a hosted exchange 2010 environment. MX records now point to this new exchange system and when I send and email OUTSIDE the MyMainDomain.com environment (say gmail) it works and sends to the hosted exchange setup for MySecondDomain.net. however when I send an email from a user on MyMainDomain.com, it goes to the old exchange 2007 server I am hosting internally. I have removed MySecondDomain.net from the allowed domains, removed the DNS zone for MySecondDomain.net, and cleared DNS cache. I was convinced it was my internal dns server but I've cleared the DNS cache. Is there something I'm missing somewhere in exchange 2007? Or is it my domain controller/dns? Sorry if this is confusing.   • Crashing when pushing a XIB based view controller onto navigation controller stack

    I was attempting to clean up the implementation for a sub-panel on a navigation controller stack, so that the navigation bar could be customized in the XIB instead of doing it manually in the viewDidLoad method. The original (working) setup had the XIB set up with the "File's Owner" class set to the view controller class, and then the view at the top level. This works fine. In the "Interface Builder User Guide", p. 71, it describes the recommended way to build the XIBs for sub-panels ("additional navigation levels"). This approach leaves the "File's Owner" class as NSObject, but adds a UIViewController at the top level, and nests the view (and navigation item) underneath it. The UIViewController's view automatically gets connected to the contained view. When I try to push the controller init'd with this new XIB, the app crashes because of a missing view: SettingsViewController *controller = [[SettingsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SettingsView" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:controller animated:YES]; 2010-04-23 11:17:37.135 xxxx[1173:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '-[UIViewController _loadViewFromNibNamed:bundle:] loaded the "SettingsTestView" nib but the view outlet was not set.' I've double checked everything, and tried building a clean XIB from scratch, but get the same result. I looked through a number of the code sample projects, and NONE of them use the documented/recommended approach--they all use the File's Owner class and manually set up the navigation bar in viewDidLoad like I originally had it.   • Rails: Skinny Controller vs. Fat Model, or should I make my Controller Anorexic?

    I know similar questions have been answered before - such as: Where should logic go, where to do certain tasks, etc. But I have a more specific question - How far should I take this axiom: "keep your controller skinny, make your model fat!" Here is an example: For instance let's say I have multiple source of verification data. A good example would be a VIN number - I can verify it against, manufacturers data source, DMV's data source, also my local databases - to see what I have on record. So I have a model called Vin and vins_controller. Inside the model I have 5 methods: check_against_local_db, check_against_dmv, check_against_car_maker_1, check_against_car_maker_2, etc. In my controller keeping with the REST, in action show - I have a simple case statement which looks at the params[:source], and based on source specified - will call specific check method. Now here is the question: Should I leave the logic that governs which data source to call in controller or should I move it to model and then in controller just do something like check_vin(source, vin)? Should I make my controller anorexic?

  • DNS resolve .com domain on local domain

    I'm building a local 2008 R2 domain as a test case to be able to write a roadmap for the real new domain that needs to be created soon. What I would like to know if I'm able to make a record in DNS that will point the domain name: www.example.com and example.com to one of the servers in my network. I tried creating an a-record for it but that doesn't work. To be honest I'm not even sure if this is possible? So can I do this? That way I would be able to fully test all our services (and webb app) offline before I build the real domain and switch the DNS records at the provider. Some advice if possible and where to start is appreciated. The solution (Thanks Brent): Create new Forward lookup zone pointing to example.com Create empty A record pointing to IP of the webserver you are targeting If www is needed create A record with Name: www and IP of your webserver sub domains repeat the process but then with names for example: sub or www.sub (and ip your webserver) Be aware of the DNS Cache while you are in this process. Things can take time or do the following: Right click the server and choose clear cache in CMD: ipconfig /flushdns (to flush the client cache)

    I have a Contacts controller in the main/top area, and I have an area named "Contacts". I get POST 404s to the Contacts controller if I register my areas before I register my top-level routes: protected void Application_Start() { AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); ModelBinders.Binders.DefaultBinder = new NullStringBinder(); RouteConfig.RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } And, if I register my areas after my routes, my 404s to the Contacts controller goes away, but my routes to the Contacts area are now 404s. ...lots of duplicate controller name questions logged, but I haven't found a specific scenario where the area is the same name as the controller. ...probably an easy fix. Would appreciate help. :-D

    Did I screw this up? I don’t even know how this might have happened, so I’d like to learn. I’m trying out HostGator’s reseller service and I bought a domain name through it, but I didn’t want the default name servers and so I changed them during the registration. After registration the domain name record is correct everywhere except at whois-servers.net and whois.crsnic.net and it looks like the DNS network is using that same information. $ whois -h whois.enom.com. example.com ...   • Must developers understand the business domain or should the specification be sufficient?

    I work for a company for which the domain is really difficult to understand because it is high technology in electronics, but this is applicable to any software development in a complex domain. The application that I work on displays a lot of information, charts, and metrics which are difficult to understand without experience in the domain. The developer uses a specification to describe what the software must do, such as specifing that a particular chart must display this kind of metrics and this metric is the following arithmetic formula. This way, the developer doesn't really understand the business and what/why he is doing this task. This can be OK if specification is really detailled but when it isn't or when the author has forgotten a use case, this is quite hard for the developer to find a solution. At the other hand, training every developer to all the business aspects can be very long and difficult. Should we give more importance to detailled specification (but as we know, perfect specification does not exist) or should we train all the developers to understand the business domain? EDIT: keep in mind in your answer that the company could used external developpers.

    I have some problems with a domain not working as expected. My registrar's controlpanel shows these records for mydomain.eu: www A 111.222.333.444 * A 111.222.333.444 I use the nameservers of my registrar. I get a correct answer if i do dig www.mydomain.eu dig whatever.mydomain.eu I can also ping/visit website etc with those adresses. But, dig mydomain.eu wont resolve to anything.     I have a Windows-2003-Server with five computers (Windows XP) accessing it using a domain. I would like to remove the server and the domain and go straight to peer to peer (file sharing via a NAS). We are moving our email to an Exchange Hosting Provider. We no longer need people to log in from different computers and have their desktops available from any computer on the network (however, I do want to get those files off of this setup). Any suggestions?
