  • How do I rewrite a plist if its data types are immutable?

    I am getting comfortable with using plists for initializing my app. I now want to save app state back to the plist used to initialize the app and I find myself stuck. At application startup I ingest the plist into an NSDictionary which is immutable. I now want to update the NSDictionary by replacing old values with new values for existing keys and write to the plist via [NSDictionary writeToFile:atomically]. How do I get around the immutability of NSDictionary? Thanks, Doug

    I have malloc'd a whole mess of data in an NSOperation instance. I have a pointer: data = malloc(humungous_amounts_of_god_knows_what); uint8_t* data; How do I package this up as an NSData instance and return it to the main thread? I am assuming that after conversion to an NSData instance I can simply call: free(data); Yes? Also, back on the main thread how do I retrieve the pointer? Thanks, Doug

  • How do I hide the text on a label in Obj-C?

    I'm using label of a button to send a value into a function. However, I want the button to be invisible. I have the background color turned of in IB, and the text color is also set to nothing, but the text still shows up on the button. Is there another way to have a clear button that sends a value when it's clicked? If I could just turn off / hide the text on the stock UIButton that would be perfect... Thanks, Doug

    1) If I am running a find and replace in SQL 2005 - what would be the regular expression to find tab and space sequences ( or space and tab sequences ) and replace them with just tab? 2) If I have a line which begins with a space - is there a regular expression to convert that leading space to a tab? 3) What would be the regular expression to remove all of the spaces before a CR/LF in a SQL statement? TIA for the help - I know this will be trivial to most of you, Doug

    Related to my older question: Get xp product key from boot Thanks for the help on that one. So, in the end, i couldn't get into my harddrive because i didn't have the available hardware to hook it up to another computer to get the old activation key. So, instead, i entered another activation key (i know, naughty) in hopes that there would be a way to retrieve the old one, restore point or something afterwords. What legal ways can I get xp re-activated after a repair when I don't have any record of my activation key? for those who think im just trying to crack it, your wrong: Got a virus, which stopped me from getting into windows Got AVG Anti Virus, which stopped me from getting into safe mode Got a 2 year old, who decided to rip-off and chew my activation sticker on my computer (nice one). Repaired windows installation thinking i wouldn't be asked to re-enter the activation key, to find that i was.

  • How to represent an agile project to people focused on waterfall [closed]

    Our team has been asked to represent our development efforts in a project plan. No one is unhappy with our work or questioning our ability to deliver, we are just participating in an IT cattle call for project plans. Trouble is we are an agile team and haven't thought about our work in terms of a formal project plan. While we have a general idea of what we are working on next we aren't 100% sure until we plan an iteration. Until now our team has largely operated in a vacuum and has not been required to present our methodology or metrics to outside parties. We follow most of the practices espoused in Extreme Programming. We hold quarterly planning meetings to have a general idea of the stories we are going to work on for a quarter. That said, our stories are documented on 3x5 cards and are only estimated at the beginning of the iteration in which they are going to be worked. After estimation we document the story in Team Foundation Sever. During an iteration, we attach code to stories and mark stories as completed once finished. From this data we are able to generate burn down and velocity charts. Most importantly we know our average velocity for an iteration keeping us from biting off more than we can chew. I am not looking to modify the way we do development but want to present our development activities in a report that someone only familiar with waterfall will understand.   • Running tasks in the background with lower CPU priority

    I have a feature in my CMS that allows a user to upload a zip file full of images and the server will extract them and insert each one into an image gallery. I've noticed that this grinds up the CPU quite severely and causes other requests to slow down. I'm thinking of using the delayed_job plugin to delegate each image addition into the background, but I also want to give that process a lower CPU priority so that it doesn't bog down the server. I'm pretty confident in the delaying part of the exercise, but the throttling part is where I'm stuck. Is there a ruby way of lowering the priority of a method call? It's the image resizing that causes the CPU chew. Any ideas welcome :)

  • Jquery broken by GetResponse (email marketing) web form script

    I'm working on a site that relies on quite a bit of javascript. The problem is, I'm not a javascript guru in the least. Yes, bit off more than I can chew, here. I'm using jquery for a spy effect, and use GetResponse for email signups. If I implement my GetResponse script, it breaks the area later in the page which depends on the jquery script. Pull the GetResponse script and it works just fine. Problem is, I need them both. ;) The trick, I suppose, is that the GetResponse script is actually another Jquery script, so it's getting called twice... Any help?     so i have a bunch of files, some can be up to 30-40mb and i want to use php to handle security of the files, so i can control who has access to them that means i have a script sort of like this rough example $has_permission = check_database_for_permission($user, filename); if ($has_permission) { header('Content-Type: image/jpeg'); readfile ($filename); exit; } else { // return 401 error } i would hate for every request to load the full file into memory, as it would soon chew up all the memory on my server with a few simultaneous requests so a couple of questions is readfile the most memory efficient way of doing this? is there some better method of achieving the same outcome, that i am overlooking? server: apache/php5 thanks

  • Allowing users to install fonts in Windows 7 (through GPO)

    Hi, This is somewhat related to my previous question, http://serverfault.com/questions/48155/why-do-installed-fonts-disappear-after-reboot. Having got the font install issue sorted out under XP just fine, recently we've got a Windows 7 workstation and I've created a special GPO for it. Initially it was UAC that was demanding administrative access to C:\windows\fonts despite the fact the policy dictates that directory is writable (as is the relevant registry entries, on XP anyway). The issue now though is that when I try to copy a font or hit install it claims that the font "does not appear to be a valid font". This happens with every type of font as well. Is there some new and special consideration when allowing these changes on Windows 7? Any input would be appreciated. Many thanks, Doug

    I am trying to start a new installation of tomcat7 (on arch Linux). I have everything configured how I normally would but I am running into the problem described in the title. This means that tomcat starts but nothing in that host gets deployed. My server and host file: <Host name="localcity" appBase="/home/gary/Sites/localcity/" autoDeploy="true" unpackWARs="false"> </Host> And the directory it is in drwxrwxr-x 4 doug tomcat 4096 Apr 15 11:52 . drwx------ 33 gary users 4096 Apr 15 20:40 .. drwxrwxr-x 2 tomcat tomcat 4096 Apr 15 20:40 localcity drwx------ 2 gary users 4096 Mar 31 10:10 lod It looks like other installations I have, but I am not sure what the problem is.

  • #TechEd 2010

    It has been another fantastic year for TechEd North America.  I always love my time here.  First, I have to give a huge thank you to Ineta for giving me the opportunity to work the Ineta booth and BOF’s (birds of a feather).   I can not even begin to list how many fantastic leaders in the .Net space and Developers from all over I have met through Ineta at this event.  It has been truly amazing and great fun!! New Orlean’s has been awesome.  The night life is hoppin’.  In addition to enjoying a few (too many??) of the local hurricanes in New Orleans, I have hung out with some of the coolest people  Deepesh Mohnani, David Poll, Viresh, Alan Stephens, Shawn Wildermuth, Greg Leonardo, Doug Seven, Chris Willams, David Carley and some of our southcentral hero’s Jeffery Palermo, Todd Anglin, Shawn Weisfeld, Randy Walker, The midnight DBA’s, Zeeshan Hirani, Dennis Bottjer just to name a few. A big thanks to Microsoft and everyone that has helped to put TechEd together.  I have loved hanging out with people from the Silverlight and Expression Teams and have learned a ton.  I am ramped up and ready to take all that knowledge back to my co-workers and my community. I can not wait to see you all again next year in Atlanta!!!
