  • UIPopoverController. Is is appropriate to embed a tableViewController within?

    I am doing an iPad imaging app and I am considering UIPopoverController as my workhorse user interface element. The user will spend most of their time immersed in fullscreen content (in both portrait and landscape). When the user wants to select a different piece of content I want to use UIPopoverController to handle that. Is it appropriate to embed a tableViewController in a UIPopoverController to allow in-place scrolling or am I abusing the intended use of UIPopoverController? Thanks, Doug

  • iPhone + OpenGL. How Do I Correctly Switch From Landscape to Portrait?

    Because of the additional complexity of drawing via an EAGLView vs. a UIView I was wondering of someone has found a robust way to handle changing the device orientation from Landscape to Portrait. One approach is to tear down the framebuffer and rebuild from scratch which would require saving/retrieving scene state. The other would be far simpler: just rotate and resize the view.   • How do I rewrite a plist if its data types are immutable?

    I am getting comfortable with using plists for initializing my app. I now want to save app state back to the plist used to initialize the app and I find myself stuck. At application startup I ingest the plist into an NSDictionary which is immutable. I now want to update the NSDictionary by replacing old values with new values for existing keys and write to the plist via [NSDictionary writeToFile:atomically]. How do I get around the immutability of NSDictionary? Thanks, Doug

  • Cocoa & Cocoa Touch. How do I create an NSData object from a plain ole pointer?

    I have malloc'd a whole mess of data in an NSOperation instance. I have a pointer: data = malloc(humungous_amounts_of_god_knows_what); uint8_t* data; How do I package this up as an NSData instance and return it to the main thread? I am assuming that after conversion to an NSData instance I can simply call: free(data); Yes? Also, back on the main thread how do I retrieve the pointer? Thanks, Doug

  • How do I hide the text on a label in Obj-C?

    I'm using label of a button to send a value into a function. However, I want the button to be invisible. I have the background color turned of in IB, and the text color is also set to nothing, but the text still shows up on the button. Is there another way to have a clear button that sends a value when it's clicked? If I could just turn off / hide the text on the stock UIButton that would be perfect... Thanks, Doug

I was trying to learn it from various sources, such as Doug's site, macscripter and this forum Just for learning purposes, I was trying to print on the screen all the tracks names using this code: tell application "iTunes" set myTracks to (tracks of library playlist 1) repeat with aTrack in myTracks get name of aTrack end repeat end tell But it only prints one track name, probably the last one...     1) If I am running a find and replace in SQL 2005 - what would be the regular expression to find tab and space sequences ( or space and tab sequences ) and replace them with just tab? 2) If I have a line which begins with a space - is there a regular expression to convert that leading space to a tab? 3) What would be the regular expression to remove all of the spaces before a CR/LF in a SQL statement?     I asked a related question about uname before, now want to ask from another angle because the following simple yet obvious conflicting outputs may mean there is something many people did not think of (me included). I'm running FreeBSD 9 RELEASE, please see the following commands: # sysctl kern.bootfile kern.bootfile: /boot/kernel/kernel # strings /boot/kernel/kernel |grep RELEASE|grep 9 @(#)FreeBSD 9.2-RELEASE-p7 #0: Tue Jun 3 11:05:13 UTC 2014 FreeBSD 9.2-RELEASE-p7 #0: Tue Jun 3 11:05:13 UTC 2014 9.2-RELEASE-p7 The above kernel file suggests the running kernel is 9.2-RELEASE-p7. And I have rebooted multiple times after freebsd-update. And the system is not in jail etc, just the only system on that computer.

  • Allowing users to install fonts in Windows 7 (through GPO)

    Hi, This is somewhat related to my previous question, http://serverfault.com/questions/48155/why-do-installed-fonts-disappear-after-reboot. Having got the font install issue sorted out under XP just fine, recently we've got a Windows 7 workstation and I've created a special GPO for it. Initially it was UAC that was demanding administrative access to C:\windows\fonts despite the fact the policy dictates that directory is writable (as is the relevant registry entries, on XP anyway). The issue now though is that when I try to copy a font or hit install it claims that the font "does not appear to be a valid font". This happens with every type of font as well. Is there some new and special consideration when allowing these changes on Windows 7? Any input would be appreciated. Many thanks, Doug

    I am trying to start a new installation of tomcat7 (on arch Linux). I have everything configured how I normally would but I am running into the problem described in the title. This means that tomcat starts but nothing in that host gets deployed. My server and host file: <Host name="localcity" appBase="/home/gary/Sites/localcity/" autoDeploy="true" unpackWARs="false"> </Host> And the directory it is in drwxrwxr-x 4 doug tomcat 4096 Apr 15 11:52 . drwx------ 33 gary users 4096 Apr 15 20:40 .. drwxrwxr-x 2 tomcat tomcat 4096 Apr 15 20:40 localcity drwx------ 2 gary users 4096 Mar 31 10:10 lod It looks like other installations I have, but I am not sure what the problem is.

  • #TechEd 2010

    It has been another fantastic year for TechEd North America.  I always love my time here.  First, I have to give a huge thank you to Ineta for giving me the opportunity to work the Ineta booth and BOF’s (birds of a feather).   I can not even begin to list how many fantastic leaders in the .Net space and Developers from all over I have met through Ineta at this event.  It has been truly amazing and great fun!! New Orlean’s has been awesome.  The night life is hoppin’.  In addition to enjoying a few (too many??) of the local hurricanes in New Orleans, I have hung out with some of the coolest people  Deepesh Mohnani, David Poll, Viresh, Alan Stephens, Shawn Wildermuth, Greg Leonardo, Doug Seven, Chris Willams, David Carley and some of our southcentral hero’s Jeffery Palermo, Todd Anglin, Shawn Weisfeld, Randy Walker, The midnight DBA’s, Zeeshan Hirani, Dennis Bottjer just to name a few. A big thanks to Microsoft and everyone that has helped to put TechEd together.  I have loved hanging out with people from the Silverlight and Expression Teams and have learned a ton.  I am ramped up and ready to take all that knowledge back to my co-workers and my community. I can not wait to see you all again next year in Atlanta!!!
