  • how to write unicode hello world in C on windows

    - by hatchetman82
    im tyring to get this to work: #define UNICODE #define _UNICODE #include <wchar.h> int main() { wprintf(L"Hello World!\n"); wprintf(L"£?, ?, ?!\n"); return 0; } using visual studio 2008 express (on windows xp, if it matters). when i run this from the command prompt (started as cmd /u which is supposed to enable unicode ?) i get this: C:\dev\unicodevs\unicodevs\Debugunicodevs.exe Hello World! -ú8 C:\dev\unicodevs\unicodevs\Debug which i suppose was to be expected given that the terminal does not have the font to render those. but what gets me is that even if i try this: C:\dev\unicodevs\unicodevs\Debugcmd /u /c "unicodevs.exe output.txt" the file produced (even though its UTF-8 encoded) looks like: Hello World! £ì the source file itself is defined as unicode (encoded in UTF-8 without BOM). the compiler output when building: 1------ Rebuild All started: Project: unicodevs, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1Deleting intermediate and output files for project 'unicodevs', configuration 'Debug|Win32' 1Compiling... 1main.c 1.\main.c(1) : warning C4005: 'UNICODE' : macro redefinition 1 command-line arguments : see previous definition of 'UNICODE' 1.\main.c(2) : warning C4005: '_UNICODE' : macro redefinition 1 command-line arguments : see previous definition of '_UNICODE' 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\wchar.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\crtdefs.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\sal.h 1C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\sal.h(108) : warning C4001: nonstandard extension 'single line comment' was used 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\crtassem.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\vadefs.h 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\swprintf.inl 1Note: including file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include\wtime.inl 1Linking... 1Embedding manifest... 1Creating browse information file... 1Microsoft Browse Information Maintenance Utility Version 9.00.30729 1Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. • "Hello World" using OpenOffice 3 sample code

    - by aiw33k
    I am trying to program a simple "Hello World" window on WinXP MSVC 2008.NET using OpenOffice 3.0 API and SDK. The article is big for beginners... http://api.openoffice.org/docs/DevelopersGuide/OfficeDev/OfficeDev.xhtml#1_1_OpenOffice.org_Application_Environment What would the code for "Hello World" look like?

  • What is the world wide web? [closed]

    - by think123
    I don't know where to post this question, so please move it if necessary. Ok, so I've heard of how the professional hosting companies can create 'links' to the world wide web to register an unregistered domain. So that's where my question comes from. Is the world wide web a server to which servers link? Is it created by abstract linkage? I'm not sure. Also, what does it mean for the DNS to be updated throughout the whole world?

  • What's the fastest way to draw a Hello World in Java

    - by Mordan
    What's the fastest way to draw a Hello World on the screen as a GUI in Java, 1- by using the minimum number of classes. 2- with the least byte code executed 2- the JVM tweaks so when I double click on the Jar file in Windows, the Hello World appears in no time (assuming the Runtime is not already loaded).

  • Hello World to Twitter from C#

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
    A few days ago, I posted this question and this question asking about how to post "Hello World" to twitter. I've gotten helpful responses, which have propelled me further along, but I'm still lost. I need to use OAuth because (as I read it) using username and password is going to be deprecated soon. I need an example as simple as updating the status with the string constant 'Hello World!'. My client is specifying that I must use C#.

  • Procedural landscape generation but not just fractals

    - by Richard Fabian
    In large procedural landscape games, the land seems dull, but that's probably because the real world is largely dull, with only limited places where the scenery is dramatic or tactical. Looking at world generation from this point of view, a landscape generator for a game needs to not follow the rules of landscaping, but instead some rules married to the expectations of the gamer. For example, there could be a choke point / route generator that creates hills ravines, rivers and mountains between cities, rather than cities plotted on the land based on the resources or conditions generated by the mountains and rainfall patterns. Is there any existing work being done like this? Start with cities or population centres and then add in terrain afterwards?

  • Error while compiling Hello world program for CUDA

    - by footy
    I am using Ubuntu 12.10 and have sucessfully installed CUDA 5.0 and its sample kits too. I have also run sudo apt-get install nvidia-cuda-toolkit Below is my hello world program for CUDA: #include <stdio.h> /* Core input/output operations */ #include <stdlib.h> /* Conversions, random numbers, memory allocation, etc. */ #include <math.h> /* Common mathematical functions */ #include <time.h> /* Converting between various date/time formats */ #include <cuda.h> /* CUDA related stuff */ __global__ void kernel(void) { } /* MAIN PROGRAM BEGINS */ int main(void) { /* Dg = 1; Db = 1; Ns = 0; S = 0 */ kernel<<<1,1>>>(); /* PRINT 'HELLO, WORLD!' TO THE SCREEN */ printf("\n Hello, World!\n\n"); /* INDICATE THE TERMINATION OF THE PROGRAM */ return 0; } /* MAIN PROGRAM ENDS */ The following error occurs when I compile it with nvcc -g hello_world_cuda.cu -o hello_world_cuda.x /tmp/tmpxft_000033f1_00000000-13_hello_world_cuda.o: In function `main': /home/adarshakb/Documents/hello_world_cuda.cu:16: undefined reference to `cudaConfigureCall' /tmp/tmpxft_000033f1_00000000-13_hello_world_cuda.o: In function `__cudaUnregisterBinaryUtil': /usr/include/crt/host_runtime.h:172: undefined reference to `__cudaUnregisterFatBinary' /tmp/tmpxft_000033f1_00000000-13_hello_world_cuda.o: In function `__sti____cudaRegisterAll_51_tmpxft_000033f1_00000000_4_hello_world_cuda_cpp1_ii_b81a68a1': /tmp/tmpxft_000033f1_00000000-1_hello_world_cuda.cudafe1.stub.c:1: undefined reference to `__cudaRegisterFatBinary' /tmp/tmpxft_000033f1_00000000-1_hello_world_cuda.cudafe1.stub.c:1: undefined reference to `__cudaRegisterFunction' /tmp/tmpxft_000033f1_00000000-13_hello_world_cuda.o: In function `cudaError cudaLaunch<char>(char*)': /usr/lib/nvidia-cuda-toolkit/include/cuda_runtime.h:958: undefined reference to `cudaLaunch' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I am also making sure that I use gcc and g++ version 4.4 ( As 4.7 there is some problem with CUDA)

  • 2D World design question

    - by Maciek
    I'm facing a problem which is probably extremely common in game-design. Let's assume that we've got a 2D world The world's size is M x N rect The world may contain some items in it The items have (x,y) coords The world can be browsed via a window that is physically (m x n) large. The browser window can be zoomed in / out The browser window can be panned up/down + left right, while in the extents of the world's rect. How should I go about implementing this? I'm especially concerned about the browser window. Can anyone recommend any good reads ? This is not a homework - it's more of a task which I've set myself to complete.

  • C++: ptr->hello(); /* VERSUS */ (*ptr).hello();

    - by Joey
    i was learning about c++ pointers... so the "-" operator seemed strange to me... instead of ptr-hello(); one could write (*ptr).hello(); because it also seems to work, so i thought the former is just a more convenient way is that the case or is there any difference?

  • How to avoid circular dependencies between Player and World?

    - by futlib
    I'm working on a 2D game where you can move up, down, left and right. I have essentially two game logic objects: Player: Has a position relative to the world World: Draws the map and the player So far, World depends on Player (i.e. has a reference to it), needing its position to figure out where to draw the player character, and which portion of the map to draw. Now I want to add collision detection to make it impossible for the player to move through walls. The simplest way I can think of is to have the Player ask the World if the intended movement is possible. But that would introduce a circular dependency between Player and World (i.e. each holds a reference to the other), which seems worth avoiding. The only way I came up with is to have the World move the Player, but I find that somewhat unintuitive. What is my best option? Or is avoiding a circular dependency not worth it?

  • C++ double division by 0.0 versus DBL_MIN

    - by wonsungi
    When finding the inverse square root of a double, is it better to clamp invalid non-positive inputs at 0.0 or MIN_DBL? (In my example below double b may end up being negative due to floating point rounding errors and because the laws of physics are slightly slightly fudged in the game.) Both division by 0.0 and MIN_DBL produce the same outcome in the game because 1/0.0 and 1/DBL_MIN are effectively infinity. My intuition says MIN_DBL is the better choice, but would there be any case for using 0.0? Like perhaps sqrt(0.0), 1/0.0 and multiplication by 1.#INF000000000000 execute faster because they are special cases. double b = 1 - v.length_squared()/(c*c); #ifdef CLAMP_BY_0 if (b < 0.0) b = 0.0; #endif #ifdef CLAMP_BY_DBL_MIN if (b <= 0.0) b = DBL_MIN; #endif double lorentz_factor = 1/sqrt(b); double division in MSVC: 1/0.0 = 1.#INF000000000000 1/DBL_MIN = 4.4942328371557898e+307

  • Whew.... what a week!

    - by [email protected]
    Last week was a busy week for the UPK and Tutor teams at Oracle. It started with the the Collaborate Conference in Las Vegas and ended with our first UPK and Tutor Customer Advisory Board (CAB) meeting at Oracle HQ. The Collaborate Conference is a yearly event sponsored by three of the largest Oracle User Groups. • Oracle Applications User Group (OAUG) • Independent Oracle User Group (IOUG) • Quest - International User Group The User Groups are completely user run organizations with Oracle participation. If you've never attended a conference, time to start planning for the 2011 event in Orlando! If that's out of your reach, there are many regional and industry user groups that meet on a regular basis. They offer a great way to get involved, network with other users, and increase your knowledge around the Oracle applications. For a list of groups near you, check out the Oracle User Group Center. I'll add that the biggest meeting of Oracle users is at the Oracle Open World Conference in San Francisco in September, where we will have many UPK & Tutor focused development and customer sessions. More information on Oracle Open World will be forthcoming over the next few months. We hope to see many of you there! The CAB was a first for the UPK and Tutor team. Although we speak with customers regularly, this gave us an opportunity to meet in a more formal setting to discuss industry trends, business issues, and the direction of the products. Members serve a 2 year term and are required to attend 2 meetings per year, one in person, one via phone. We have some tweaking to do to our meeting format (most members wanted it to be longer!), but the overwhelming consensus was that it was a great success. There were many experiences and ideas shared and the wheels of the UPK and Tutor Development teams have been turning ever since. I'm sure you will see some of these discussions result in new product features over time. What a great week!

  • Creating a Hello World library function in assembly and calling it from C#

    - by Filip Ekberg
    Let's say we use NASM as they do in this answer: how to write hellow world in assembly under windows. I got a couple of thoughts and questions regarding assembly combined with c# or any other .net languages for that matter. First of all I want to be able to create a library that has the following function HelloWorld that takes this parameter: Name In C# the method signature would looke like this: void HelloWorld(string name) and it would print out something like Hello World from name I've searched around a bit but can't find that much good and clean material for this to get me started. I know some basic assembly from before mostly gasthough. So any pointers in the right direction is very much apprechiated. To sum it up Create a function in ASM ( NASM ) that takes one or more parameters Compile and create a library of the above functionality Include the library in any .net language Call the included library function Bonus features How does one handle returned values? Is it possible to write the ASM-method inline? When creating libraries in assembly or c, you do follow a certain "pre defined" way, the c calling convetion, correct?

  • More issues with IntelliJ 9.0.1 "Hello World" in Scala - Predef version 5.0 vs 4.1

    - by Alex R
    Any ideas what could cause this? Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar I tried both versions 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 of scala-*.jar, the result was the same. JDK is 1.6.u20. UPDATE Today uninstalled IntelliJ 9.0.1, and installed 9.0.2 Early Availability, with the 4/14 stable version of the Scala plug-in. Then I setup a project from scratch through the wizards: new project from scratch JDK is 1.6.u20 accept the default (project) instead of global / module accept the download of Scala 2.8.0beta1 into project's lib folder Created a new class: object hello { def main(args: Array[String]) { println("hello: " + args); } } For my efforts, I now have a brand-new error :) Here it is: Scalac internal error: class java.lang.ClassNotFoundException [java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202), java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method), java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190), java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307), sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301), java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:248), java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method), java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:169), org.jetbrains.plugins.scala.compiler.rt.ScalacRunner.main(ScalacRunner.java:72)] Thanks

  • Post "Hello World" to twitter from .NET application

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
    My client would like me to use .NET to post to Twitter, and suggests that I use C#. Q: How do I post "Hello World" to twitter using C#? This post mentions a library called twitterizer. Isn't there a native way to do it without using a 3rd party library? (Maybe not since authentication is one of the requirements).
