  • Cannot seem to communicate between views

    Hi all I have written a MVVM prototype as a learning exercise and I am struggling to understand how I can communicate between views.Let me explain I have a treeview on the left (leftSideView) ListView on the right (rightSideView) MainWindow (includes the 2 views mentioned above and a splitter) What I have implemented does not work and I would like you if you can point out where I am going wrong or if there is a better way of doing it. you can download the quick prototype from here http://cid-9db5ae91a2948485.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/WpfCommunicationBetweenViews.zip For sure I am doing something wrong with the bindind.   • ASP.net MVC Using view models in different views

    i have 2 customer views one for create and one for edit. i am using the same Customer view model for both. i want to make the 'customer no field' required on the add but not the edit. if i put the requiredfield attribute on the view model property then both views flag 'Customer No' as required (as you would expect). Is there a built in solution to get around this problem or am i going to have to create 2 seperate view models, one with the attribute and one without. Thanks

  • iPhone: Switching Views From Outside Root Controller

    I am using a UINavigationController to switch between views. What I would like is for each view to have the ability to control when it is swapped out for another view by having buttons within the view. All of the samples I've seen thus far have placed buttons on a toolbar, which is located on the root view containing the Switch View Controller rather than the views, them self. Is it possible to do what I want? I can't figure how to wire up the connection back to the UINavigationController. I'm having a difficult time wording this, so please feel free to let me know if you need additional clarification.

  • Visual Studio 2010 deploys views too late in deploy process

    I have a database project in my VS2010 solution. I recently changed a view and and changed a number of functions to use this view instead of going directly against a table. But now when I deploy I get errors on most of these functions because the column asked for does not exists in the view yet. The update of the view happends later than the update of UDF's. Is there any way to change this behaviour? Wouldn't the best thing be if the deploy script updated in this order: tables, views, SP and UDF. It seems like tables is updated first, but the views are just thrown in somewhere in the middle of the deploy script.

    I'm working, as an hobby (before any one rage out of their mind, I'm just trying to study C++ regarding something I love: web. I'm not trying to reinvent your precious wheel, and I'm not trying to create the new web technology. I just have the time to go for it.), creating a web CGI C++ library. I'm at a pretty good point, but in the future I see one big problem: views. I'm used to the great <body><?php echo "Hey!"; ?></body> embedded php, but there's no such thing in C++, so I'm wondering: How would you deal with views? Would you create a simple find-replace-variable templating system and deal with thousands of partial views?     I created a silverlight 3 application with a navigation frame and 3 views: search, add and edit. I used the app file to pass parameters among the 3 pages, eg: ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED = currentSnip; Then in the receiving page: currentSnip = ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED; currentSnip is a SnipItem object: public class SnipItem { public string itemID {get;set;} public string category {get;set;} public string itemDescription {get;set;} public string codeSnip {get;set;} } This worked fine until I decided to make this entire application into a user control and put that inside a second silverlight application with its own navigation frame and app file. The app files are getting confused. The first app file with all my parameter passing is not being read. I know how to pass a simple parameter between views in the first application without the app file (in a query string), but how about these custom types like my currentSnip above?

    Hi, How do I make syncdb execute SQL queries (for table creation) defined by me, rather then generating tables automatically. I'm looking for this solution as some particular models in my app represent SQL-table-views for a legacy-database table. So, I've created their SQL-views in my django-DB like this: CREATE VIEW legacy_series AS SELECT * FROM legacy.series; I have a reverse engineered model that represents the above view/legacytable. But whenever I run syncdb, I have to create all the views first by running sql scripts, otherwise syncdb simply creates tables for them (if a view is not found). How do I make syncdb run the above mentioned SQL?

    I am in trouble. I placed and advt on a website in 2012 which said he has 950,000 unique visits each month so early in 2012 i advertised with them. The advertised didn't worked out so checked in 2-3 months time and i saw that the unique visitors on their site was 8,000 at that time.I immediately close the account I dont remember which site i was checking the unique visitors.That advt company has filed a dispute against me. So is there any tool that give me stats of 2012 of any website. i tried google trends but it doesnt show statistics ..

  • How to stop Vista changing folder views?

    In Windows Vista, I've set the "list view" to apply to all folders under folder options. This works fine until I change the view of any one folder to something else (say, extra large thumbnails). Then suddenly, every folder uses that extra large view. But if I switch it back to list view, this never gets applied for all folders - they're still using the extra large view. Obviously I can go to folder options AGAIN and apply list view to all folders AGAIN, but it makes no sense why this happens in the first place. Changing the view once applies it to all folders, but doing exactly the same again doesn't... is there a way around this?

  • Cannot debug views in MVC2 project, getting "The resource cannot be found" error

    I'm running Visual Studio 2008 sp1 on Win7, with MVC2 RTM installed. I created a new MVC2 project using the wizard and am unable to debug specific pages. With webforms and even MVC1, I was able to sit on a View page, hit F5, and then have the integrated web server in VS2008 start on the page I was working on. Very handy for building up app logic. When I try this now I get a "The resource cannot be found" error page. I retried this just now with a stock new MVC2 Web Application project. Here are the steps I took after creating the new project to reproduce: Open up project settings. Under the Web subtab, set the Start Action to "Current Page". Leave all the other settings as is. Open one of the views up (e.g. Account/Register.aspx) Hit F5 to debug the project Note that the browser window which displays shows the error message "The resource cannot be found". The link I saw in my browser for this run was: http://localhost:49471/Views/Account/Register.aspx I did some googling and found suggestions related to ensuring all HTTP server pieces were installed. I double checked and made sure that "HTTP Errors" and "HTTP Redirection" were both installed. If I leave the project setting as it was originally, set to "Specific Page" with nothing in the text box, then routing works and I always get the default home page. I'm hoping this isn't the only option. Thanks!

    I'm struggling with AJAX POST from the form that was loaded into Twitter Bootstrap modal dialog. Partial view form goes like this: @using (Html.BeginForm()) { // fields // ... // submit <input type="submit" value="@ButtonsRes.button_save" /> } Now this is being used in non AJAX editing with classic postbacks. Is it possible to use the same partial for AJAX functionality? Or should I abstract away the inputs into it's own partial view? Like this: @using (Ajax.BeginForm()) { @Html.Partial("~/Views/Shared/ImageEditInputs.cshtml") // but what to do with this one then? <input type="submit" value="@ButtonsRes.button_save" /> } I know how to load this into Bootstrap modal but few changes should be done on the fly: the buttons in Bootstrap modal should be placed in a special container (the modal footer), the AJAX POST should be done when clicking Save which would first, validate the form and keep the modal opened if not valid (display the errors of course) second, post and close the modal if everything went fine in the view that opened the modal, display some feedback information at the top that save was succesful. I'm mostly struggling where to put what JS code. So far I have this within the List view, which wires up the modals: $(document).ready(function () { $('.openModalDialog').click(function (event) { event.preventDefault(); var url = $(this).attr('href'); $.get(url, function (data) { $('#modalContent').html(data); $('#modal').modal('show'); }); }); }); The above code, however, doesn't take into the account the special Bootstrap modal content placeholder (header, content, footer). Is it possible to achieve what I want without having multiple partial views with the same inputs but different @using and without having to do hacks with moving the Submit button around?

  • iphone global variables accessed from different views

    Okay, so ultimately I want a program where the user can input simple data such as their name, date of birth, address, etc. and then have that information stay through multiple views. I am having the user input their information as UITextFields but their are multiple views that they are using to input the data. Is there a way that when the user inputs data in a UITextField - then moves to another view - then returns to the original view - that the data will still be in that UITextField? I figure since there are placeholders that there must be a command to show previously written text in that field when the viewController is called. Also, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to keep these variables global. I have read in multiple areas that I should define them in the AppDelegate as a simple: NSString *userName; NSString *userDOB; But how do I assign the strings from the UITextFields in a different view to these variables and then re-assign them to the UITextFields when the user returns to the place where they originally input them? (I apologize if I am not explaining this coherently - I am a bit of a newb)

The problem here is that since all of the annotations are being requested at once, [mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier] does nothing, since there are unique MKAnnotationViews for every annotation on the map. This is leading to memory problems for me. One possible issue is that these annotations are clustered in a pretty small space (~1 mile radius). Although the map is zoomed in pretty tight in viewDidLoad (latitude and longitude delta .001), it still loads all of the annotation views at once. Thanks...

    Hi, i added a Tab bar to my existing view called secondViewController where there are now 4 tab bar items using interface builder. This tab bar will allow the users to switch between views. This is what ive tried to do: If i use a tabbar controller, then a new view pops up and i dont want that. i simply want to be able to add a tab bar as ive done and carry on from there. i dont know how to actually connect it all up and make everything work together. I'm using a to_json call in a controller returns data like so: render :text => @item.to_json(:only => [...], :methods => [:foo]) This means, that I have to have foo defined in my Item model as well: class Item def foo "hello #{name}" end end It'd be nice if I could have a DRY method that could be shared in both my views and my models.     Consider that I have an application that just handles Messages and Users I want my Window to have a common Menu and an area where the current View is displayed. I can only work with either Messages or Users so I cannot work simultaniously with both Views. Therefore I have the following Controls MessageView.xaml UserView.xaml Just to make it a bit easier, both the Message Model and the User Model looks like this: Name Description Now, I have the following three ViewModels: MainWindowViewModel UsersViewModel MessagesViewModel The UsersViewModel and the MessagesViewModel both just fetch an ObserverableCollection<T> of its regarding Model which is bound in the corresponding View like this: <DataGrid ItemSource="{Binding ModelCollection}" /> The MainWindowViewModel hooks up two different Commands that have implemented ICommand that looks something like the following: public class ShowMessagesCommand : ICommand { private ViewModelBase ViewModel { get; set; } public ShowMessagesCommand (ViewModelBase viewModel) { ViewModel = viewModel; } public void Execute(object parameter) { var viewModel = new ProductsViewModel(); ViewModel.PartialViewModel = new MessageView { DataContext = viewModel }; } public bool CanExecute(object parameter) { return true; } public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged; } And there is another one a like it that will show Users. Now this introduced ViewModelBase which only holds the following: public UIElement PartialViewModel { get { return (UIElement)GetValue(PartialViewModelProperty); } set { SetValue(PartialViewModelProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty PartialViewModelProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("PartialViewModel", typeof(UIElement), typeof(ViewModelBase), new UIPropertyMetadata(null)); This dependency property is used in the MainWindow.xaml to display the User Control dynamicly like this: <UserControl Content="{Binding PartialViewModel}" /> There are also two buttons on this Window that fires the Commands: ShowMessagesCommand ShowUsersCommand And when these are fired, the UserControl changes because PartialViewModel is a dependency property. I want to know if this is bad practice? Should I not inject the User Control like this? Is there another "better" alternative that corresponds better with the design pattern? Or is this a nice way of including partial views?

  • MSSQL: Views that use SELECT * need to be recreated if the underlying table changes

    Is there a way to make views that use SELECT * stay in sync with the underlying table. What I have discovered is that if changes are made to the underlying table, from which all columns are to be selected, the view needs to be 'recreated'. This can be achieved simly by running an ALTER VIEW statement. However this can lead to some pretty dangerous situations. If you forgot to recreate the view, it will not be returning the correct data. In fact it can be returning seriously messed up data - with the names of the columns all wrong and out of order. Nothing will pick up that the view is wrong unless you happened to have it covered by a test, or a data integrity check fails. For example, Red Gate SQL Compare doesn't pick up the fact that the view needs to be recreated. To replicate the problem, try these statements: CREATE TABLE Foobar (Bar varchar(20)) CREATE VIEW v_Foobar AS SELECT * FROM Foobar INSERT INTO Foobar (Bar) VALUES ('Hi there') SELECT * FROM v_Foobar ALTER TABLE Foobar ADD Baz varchar(20) SELECT * FROM v_Foobar DROP VIEW v_Foobar DROP TABLE Foobar I am tempted to stop using SELECT * in views, which will be a PITA. Is there a setting somewhere perhaps that could fix this behaviour?

    I am working on a multi-page assessment form where the questions/responses are database driven. Currently I the basic system working with Html.BeginForm via standard ASP.Net MVC. At this point in time, the key to the whole system is the 'Strongly Typed Partial Views'. When the question/response is read from the database, the response type determines which derived model is created and added to the collection. The main view it iterates through the collection and uses the 'Strongly Typed Partial Views' system of ASP.Net MVC to determine which view to render the correct type of response (radio button, drop down, or text box). I would like to change this process from a Html.BeginForm to Ajax.BeginForm. The problem is I don't have a clue as to how to implement the dynamic creation of the question/response in the JavaScript/jQuery world. Any thoughts and/or suggestions?   • MySQL managing catalogue views

    A friend of mine has a catalogue that currently holds about 500 rows or 500 items. We are looking at ways that we can provide reports on the catalogue inclduing the number of times an item was viewed, and dates for when its viewed. His site is averaging around 25,000 page impressions per month and if we assumed for a minute that half of these were catalogue items then we'd assume roughly 12,000 catalogue items viewed each month. My question is the best way to manage item views in the database. First option is to insert the catalogue ID into a table and then increment the number of times its viewed. The advantage of this is its compact nature. There will only ever be as many rows in the table as there are catalogue items. `catalogue_id`, `views` The disadvantage is that no date information is being held, short of maintaining the last time an item was viewed. The second option is to insert a new row each time an item is viewed. `catalogue_id`, `timestamp` If we continue with the assumed figure of 12,000 item views that means adding 12,000 rows to the table each month, or 144,000 rows each year. The advantage of this is we know the number of times the item is viewed, and also the dates for when its viewed. The disadvantage is the size of the table. Is a table with 144,000 rows becoming too large for MySQL? Interested to hear any thoughts or suggestions on how to achieve this. Thanks.

These two usercontrols have the same datacontext. Also tell me if i could merge the usercontrol pairs, so that only one view exists for each viewmodel ie, FooView1 and FooView2 into FooView and so on...
