• What's the proper way of importing option lists into an Android app?

  I have been storing option lists for my Android app in a cloud table. For example, categories like "historical fiction","biography","science fiction", etc. I see the following pros and cons: Pro: I can make changes to the list without sending an app update to Google Play Not normalized - I can use the text in my other data tables instead of a reference ID Con: App needs to take time to download from the web each time (or at least check for changes) English only I believe the "proper" way to do this is the use the XML resource files. But I need to make sure the selection references correctly with my data. That is, my app needs to understand that "Poetry" and "Poesía" are the same thing. Is the correct thing to do: Forget about it since I'll never get to the point where I'm translating my app anyway Use a string-array and use the index (0...x) to know what the selection is Use a 2-dimensional string-array with a reference ID in the first column and the text in the second?

• First and last window don't show up.

  Hi, I'm creating a WinApi application for my programming course. The program is supposed to show an LED clock using a separate window for each 'block'. I have figured most of it out, except for one thing: when creating the two-dimensional array of windows, the first and last window never show up. Here's the piece of code from the InitInstance function: for (int x=0;x<8;x++) for (int y=0;y<7;y++) { digitWnd[x][y] = CreateWindowEx((WS_EX_LAYERED | WS_EX_TRANSPARENT | WS_EX_NOACTIVATE | WS_EX_STATICEDGE), szWindowClass, szTitle, (WS_POPUP| WS_BORDER), NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, dummyWnd, NULL, hInstance, NULL); ShowWindow(digitWnd[x][y], nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(digitWnd[x][y]); } The same loop bounds are used everytime I interact with the windows (set position and enable/disable). All the windows seem to be working fine, except for digitWnd[0][0] and digitWnd[7][6]... Any ideas as to what is happening?

• How to search array for duplicates using a single array?

  Hi Everyone I am python newbie I have to implement lasso L1 regression for a class assignment. This involves solving a quadratic equation involving block matrices. minimize x^t * H * x + f^t * x where x 0 Where H is a 2 X 2 block matrix with each element being a k dimensional matrix and x and f being a 2 X 1 vectors each element being a k dimension vector. I was thinking of using nd arrays. such that np.shape(H) = (2, 2, k, k) np.shape(x) = (2, k) But I figured out that np.dot(X, H) doesn't work here. Is there an easy way to solve this problem? • Help with python list-comprehension

  A simplified version of my problem: I have a list comprehension that i use to set bitflags on a two dimensional list so: s = FLAG1 | FLAG2 | FLAG3 [[c.set_state(s) for c in row] for row in self.__map] All set_state does is: self.state |= f This works fine but I have to have this function "set_state" in every cell in __map. Every cell in __map has a .state so what I'm trying to do is something like: [[c.state |= s for c in row] for row in self.map] or map(lambda c: c.state |= s, [c for c in row for row in self.__map]) Except that neither works (Syntax error). Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree with map/lamda but I would like to get rid on set_state. And perhaps know why assignment does not work in the list-comprehension

• Android / Java rare and seemingly impossible exception causing force close

  Hello all, I have an interesting problem being reported to me from an android application I have published. I have a two-dimensional array that I am iterating through using two for loops like so: for (int i = 0; i < arr.length; ++i) { for (int j = 0; j < arr[i].length; ++j) { if (arr[i][j] != 0) // does stuff } } The problem is, somehow arr[i][j] != 0 is throwing an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException. But very rarely. I have thousands of people use the app on a daily basis and get maybe twenty force close reports. Is this something I can't avoid, maybe a problem with the phones memory, etc. or is there something I can do that I haven't thought of yet? Thanks.

But my question is how exactly can i calculate the AVERAGE of $total price of all given in results? Meaning for example i have 5 rows so this would mean 5 total prices. How exactly can i acces this value and count everything up / 5? This will happen in a other page so i would like to use sessions for this. /5 simply by count($_Session["table"]) , but really not sure about the other values. Kind Regards.

• Optimizing a Parking Lot Problem. What algorithims should I use to fit the most amount of cars in th

  What algorithms (brute force or not) would I use to put in as many cars (assume all cars are the same size) in a parking lot so that there is at least one exit (from the container) and a car cannot be blocked. Or can someone show me an example of this problem solved programmatically. The parking lot varies in shape would be nice but if you want to assume its some invariant shape that is fine. Another Edit: Assume that driving distance in the parking lot is not a factor (although it would be totally awesome if it was weighted factor to number of cars in lot). Another Edit: Assume 2 Dimensional (no cranes or driving over cars). Another Edit: You cannot move cars around once they are parked (its not a valet parking lot). I hope the question is specific enough now.

I am not able to grasp that approach. Can anyone help me understand how DP is acting here. I can't understand what is a state here and how it is derived from the previous state.

  I'm trying to create a function to parse out all values in a multidimensional Array with all but one dimension given. The details are not relevant, but for this function I need to return an one-dimensional Array containing values of the same type the original multidimensional Array has. To pass any Array with any dimension to my function, I declared the type of this parameter as Array. However, how would I create a new Array of that specific type (e.g. Integer)? Currently I have the following code: Function GetRow(ByVal arr As Array) As Array Dim result As (...) 'This should be Integer() if arr contains Integers, etc. Return result End Function How do I declare the type of result to make it having the same type of values as arr?   I have two identically-sized numpy.array objects (both one-dimensional), one of which contains a list of starting index positions, and the other of which contains a list of ending index positions (alternatively you could say I have a list of starting positions and window lengths). • Applying transformations to NSBitmapImageRep

  So ... I have an image loaded into an NSBitmapImageRep object, so I am able to examine the contents of specific pixels via a two dimensional array. Now I want to apply a couple of "transformations" to the image, in preparation for some additional processing. If I was manipulating the image manually, in Photoshop, I would: Rotate the image Crop a portion of it and discard the rest Apply a "threshold" transformation (which essentially converts the image to black and white, based on the threshold value I provide) Resample the image to shrink it down a bit (which, although losing some image quality, will speed up the subsequent processing) (not necessarily in that order) Are there objective C methods available to facilitate these specific image manipulations, with the data in the NSBitmapImageRep object? If so, can someone point me to some good examples?

  I reading about Mathematics in Games and am wondering what is the best way to represent a Vector location in Java. I know there is a Vector class but I don't think this is what I need. There is also a Matrix class which looks like it may be what I want (a 1 dimensional matrix maybe). In particular, if I were to create a location Vector such as: v(x,y,z) where x,y and z are the coordinates in 3D space, what would be the best way to represent this in Java. It would be nice if I could also add, subtract and find the dot-product of Vectors. ideas?

  Hello all, I'm writing a program that simulates various random walks (with differing distributions). At each timestep, I need randomly generated, two dimensional step distances and angles from the distribution of the random walk. I'm hoping someone can check my understanding of how to generate these random numbers. As I understand it I can use Inverse Transform Sampling as follows: If f(x) is the pdf of our random walk that has a non-uniform distribution, and y is a random number from a uniform distribution. Then if we let f(x) = y and solve to find x then we have a random number from the non-uniform distribution. Is this a feasible solution?

• What language should I learn to make 2D turn-based video games?

  I want to make 2 dimensional turn-based games for the PC. Something like early Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger. Is C++ the only plausible option? I keep getting told that C++ is the language of choice for games, but is this the case even for 2D, turn-based games? Are any other languages good for this sort of thing? I'm really big on clean, readable, extendible code, so a language that fosters that sort of thing would be great. Doing this for fun, not business. Java is the only language I really know well right now. By the way, this is my first question and I'm a noob. I read the FAQ, but if I'm doing anything noobish anyway, then I'm sorry.

I need to get the element of Arr1 corresponding to maximum of elements in Arr2 beginning with given indices ... e.g Get indices of the max of Arr2 [ 1 , 10 , 3 , i , j ] for all i,j Return Arr1 [ 1 , 10 , 3 , i , j ] Of course I need the elegant solution (not the "loop for them" one...) Please Note: I do not want to loop through the arrays, because it is 11 dimensional!!.. the code will be ugly and error prone.. and I may run out of variable names :)

  Hello, When sending data from a form to a second page, the value of the session is always with the name "Array" insteed of the expected number. The data should get displayed in a table, but insteed of example 1, 2, 3 , 4 i get : Array, Array, Array.   I have a templated class Vector<class T, int N> Where T is the type of the components (double for example) and n the number of components (so N=3 for a 3D vector) Now I want to write a method like double findStepsize(Vector<double,2> v) {..} I want to do this also for three and higher dimensional vectors. Of course I could just introduce further methods for higher dimensions, but the methods would have a lot of redundant code, so I want a more generic solution. Is there a way to create a method which takes a templated class without further specializing it (in this case without specifying T or N)? Like double findStepsize(Vector<T,N> v) ?

  I don't know why I am having so much trouble creating a 3 dimensional list. I need the program to create an empty n by n list. So for n = 4: x = [[[],[],[],[]],[[],[],[],[]],[[],[],[],[]],[[],[],[],[]]] I've tried using: y = [n*[n*[]]] y = [[[]]* n for i in range(n)] Which both appear to be creating copies of a reference. I've also tried naieve application of the list builder with little success: y = [[[]* n for i in range(n)]* n for i in range(n)] y = [[[]* n for i in range(1)]* n for i in range(n)] I've also tried building up the array iteratively using loops, with no success. In my rapid flurry of attempts to not post something stupidly easy to SO, I came upon a solution: y = [] for i in range(0,n): y.append([[]*n for i in range(n)]) Is there an easier/ more intuitive way of doing this?
