• Rhythmbox plugin radio-browser crashes

  I have just installed the plugins package from fossfreedom repository on my Rhythmbox 2.96 running on 12.04 (64 bit). The radio-browser plugin crashes Rhythmbox after a few seconds of playing. When I restarted Rhythmbox after the crash, the plugin was marked as "error" and it is impossible to reinstall it. I've then manually removed (sudo apt-get remove ...) and reinstalled it but still I can't enable it. Unfortunately, radio-browser was the reason for me to install the plugin package, and I can't use it... Help please?

• Disable plugin in Firefox (acroread)

  I installed acroread from the repositories, and it has decided it should be the default plugin in Firefox, such that when I click on a pdf, it opens in a Firefox window. Unfortunately, it does not display (at least when in dual head mode). This should be simple, but I cannot disable the plugin. Under Firefox Edit - Preferences- Applications - pdf is set to "always ask" so I don't know why it uses acroread in the first place. Under Tools - Manage Content Plugins I see acroread is selected for pdf content. I have the option in the dropdown to search for a new plugin, but not to simply download the file. Typing about:config into the Firefox toolbar gives me a list of configuration options, but does not mention plugin.disable or acroread anywhere. How do I disable the plugin? I have Firefox 11.0 on Ubuntu 11.10

• How do I share my jQuery plugin with the world?

  I made a plugin for jQuery, which I think is quite useful. It combines an animated colours plugin with an easings plugin, and adds a completely new feature of being able to refer to colours numerically (more useful in hex notation, so 0xff00cc for example) and therefore manipulate them mathematically more easily. I created a repository on github, and it sits there, nobody looks at it. Mostly, I would like people to look at it, use it, and improve it, so I can use the improvements and so on. I think this idea of numerically manipulating colors could be interesting. It makes it easy to change the hue without changing the saturation for example. Combined with animated colors, I think something interesting could be done, but I don't know what exactly. How do I let people know it (or any other project) is there..? I was going to post it on http://plugins.jquery.com which is currently down. Are there any other outlets for this kind of code?

• Network monitoring tools with API features

  We use ks-soft's Advanced Hostmonitor package to monitor around 2000 items on our network. We think it's great, the chap that supports it is fantastic, the product is fast, stable and mature but I feel as as we grow as a company it's beginning to show some friction points in the area of integration with our back office admin systems. One of the things we'd like to do is be able to add new tests to whatever monitoring tool we use via an API. For example, when orders for servers come from our retail interface, the server gets built automatically, and as part of the automated build process we'd like to automatically add new tests to the network monitoring systems. Hostmonitor has some support for this via a feature called HM Script but we're starting to encounter some speedbumps - we can't add new operators/users we can't define new "Action Profiles" - these are the actions to be taken when a test goes good or bad. What we love about hostmonitor though are the Action Profiles. For example if a Windows IIS box goes bad our action profile for a bad test does something like: Check host again (one time) Wait another 30 seconds then test again Try restart app pool on remote machine (up to two times) Send an email to ops about the restart failure Try restarting IIS on remote machine (up to four times) Page duty admin (up to 5 times - stops after duty admin ACKS alert) Page backup duty admin (5 times - stops after duty admin ACKS alert) I'm starting to look around at other network monitoring tools and I'm looking for: a comprehensive API to be able to add/remove/control tests/test "action profiles"/operators (not just plugins, we need control and admin interfaces) the ability to have quite detailed action/escalation profiles (and define these via an API) I've looked at Nagios and Icinga but Ican't seem to glean from their documentation whether we could have these features or not, or if we could, how much work would be involved to implement/customise. Can anyone provide any advice, guidance or experiences?

• check_snmp with snmpv3 protocol giving "Unkown Report message" error

  I'm trying to add a nagios command to use snmpv3 for monitoring printer status messages. When using the check_snmp command, I get the following error: External command error: snmpget: Unknown Report message Here is the command I'm typing in: ./check_snmp -P 3 -H <hostname> -L authPriv -U snmpuser -A snmppassword -X snmppassword -o 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.4.3.1.2.0 -C public -d "STRING:" -a MD5 These values for auth key, private key, username, etc all work when using snmpwalk. Can someone enlighten me as to what that error message really means? EDIT: It looks like check_snmp isn't taking my v3 credentials when passing over to snmpget. Here is my input with the verbose option: ./check_snmp -H <hostname> -o 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.1 -C public -m ALL -P 3 -L authPriv -U snmpuser -a MD5 -A snmppassword -x DES -X snmppassword -v And here is the output: /usr/bin/snmpget -t 1 -r 5 -m ALL -v 3 [authpriv] <hostname>:161 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.1 External command error: snmpget: Unknown Report message So I guess now my question would be: why isn't check_snmp passing all the commandline options to snmpget?

• Best tool for monitoring backups, etc. and trending statstics from that data

  I have done some research on nagios, opennms, and zenoss but am not confident that I have found what I am looking for. The main driving force for me right now is being able to monitor backups. This includes mysql, mssql, and eventually some file system backups. We have a tool that wraps the backup process for these different systems and collects statistics. So, items like: number of databases backed up size of db backup file size of db backup file compressed time to make backup time to zip file I want to be able to A) have notifications if the jobs are not run according to schedule B) be able to set thresholds on the statistics which would trigger notifications C) I want to be able to trend and graph the statistics I am planning on sending this information to the monitoring application through an HTTP POST. Or, the monitoring application could pull it from a log file as well. However, we will have other processes with other "arbitrary" (from the monitoring system's perspective) statics that will want to monitor and trend, so flexibility is very important. The tool or tools should also be able to do general monitoring and trending of network interfaces, server load, etc. Once we get the backup monitoring in place, we will want to include those items as well. • Using udev to create a character device based on a driver being loaded

  I'm in the process of setting up RAID monitoring for a number of Dell servers that use the PERC 6i integrated card. We're using Nagios at present and the check_megasasctl plugin seems to fit the bill. However, the plugin relies upon the existence of: /dev/megaraid_sas_ioctl_node This device node doesn't exist by default, you have to create it by hand using something like: mknod /dev/megaraid_sas_ioctl_node c 253 0 Now, to make the existence of this device node persistent across reboots, I thought I could write a udev rule, but as usual, I'm missing something. I thought I could create a file such as /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local/rules that contained: DRIVER=="megasas" NAME="megaraid_sas_ioctl_node" MODE="0600" But this doesn't work - no device node after a reboot. Dmesg output indicates the megasas driver is loaded and functional: megasas: 00.00.04.01-RH1 Thu July 10 09:41:51 PST 2008 megasas: 0x1000:0x0060:0x1028:0x1f0c: bus 1:slot 0:func 0 megasas: FW now in Ready state Further, I don't see any means to instruct udev on which type of device node to create: character or block. I suspect I'm failing to understand exactly how udev is meant to work. I realise I could just cheat and run MegaCLI in /etc/rc.local, redirecting output to /dev/null; it creates the megaraid_sas_ioctl_node device node as part of its execution. I just thought using udev rules would be a) cleaner and b) a useful learning exercise. Perhaps I should just dump the above mknod command in /etc/rc.local... So how do I get udev to create the /dev/megaraid_sas_ioctl_node device node based on the presence of the megasas driver? Cheers Steve

  How do you forcibly uninstall Eclipse 3.5 plugins without using Eclipse? I made the mistake of installing Google's Android SDK, and now when I try to check for updates via the "Check For Updates" or "Install New Software", some Android process runs, consumes all my CPU, takes up 3 gigs of memory, and crashes Eclipse. I can't even get to the uninstall dialog before Google's plugin kills everything.

• Access Git Repository using Eclipse and Netbeans Plugins with LDAP Users

  Hello everyone! I've configure a git server. I need to use ssh because I've defined permissions using users of my domain, using LDAP. Only users with permissions could read a project. So, the links to access my repositories are like that: ssh://[email protected]@hostname/var/git/repo.git When I clone, commit or push a project using linux git commands or using tortoisegit on windows, there is no problem, everything works as expected. However, I've tried to clone a project using plugins from Eclipse (EGit) and Netbeans (NBGit), with no success. Seems that they can't recognize the host. I've accessed using a user from the server (not from the domain) and it cloned the project perfectly. Seems that the plugins assume that the host is everything after the first @.   We are evaluating plugins for Authorization in Rails. The two at the top of our list are cancan and declarative_authorization. I would like to get some feedback from anyone currently using either of these plugins. The problem we are going to face with any authorization plugin is that we have a database per customer model and will need to modify the plugin to work within that model. Because of this fact I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has had to tweak the plugins at all as well. I'm just starting to look around at the code. It seems like cancan might be a little easier to customize. Any thoughts?

• Designing a plug-in system

  I'm working on a Java project and I would like to add a plug-in system. More precisely, I would like to let the user design his own module, pack it into a jar, leave it in a "plugins/" subfolder of my application and be done with it. I've managed to get a child classloader to instantiate objects of classes located in external jars, but now I'm facing a design dilemma: Say Joe makes a plug-in and he packs it in joeplugin.jar. I would really like Joe to have a class named "instantiation.Factory" and I would also like everyone to have this class with this exact location and name. (This factory class obviously implements a interface that I provide and through it I get what I want from the plug-in.) If Joe wouldn't be restricted in this way I would have to look into his entire jar for some class that implements my factory interface and I don't want to imagine how complicated things get. So my question is: should I enforce a strict naming convention for this single class? I have no idea how plug-in systems work.

• Is anyone doing "real" TDD with Visual-C++, and if yes, how do they do it?

  Test Driven Development implies writing the test before the code and following a certain cycle: Write Test Check Test (run) Write Production Code Check Test (run) Clean up Production Code Check test (run) As far as I'm concerned, this is only possible if your development solution allows you to very quickly switch between the production and test code, and to execute the test for a certain production code part extremely quickly. Now, while there exist lots of Unit Testing Frameworks for C++ (I'm using Bost.Test atm.) it does seem that there doesn't really exist any decent (for native C++) Visual Studio (Plugin) solution that makes the TDD cycle bearable regardless of framework used. "Bearable" means that it's a one-click action to run a test for a certain cpp file without having to manually set up a separate testing project etc. "Bearable" also means that a simple test starts (linking!) and runs very quickly. So, what tools (plugins) and techniques are out there that make the TDD cycle possible for native C++ development with Visual Studio? Note: I'm fine with free or "commercial" tools. Please: No framework recommendations. (Unless the framework has a dedicated Visual Studio plugin and you want to recommend the plugin.) Edit Note: The answers so far have provided links on how to integrate a Unit Testing framework into Visual Studio. The resources more or less describe how to get the UT framework to compile and get your first Tests running. This is not what this question is about. I'm of the opinion that to really work productively, having the Unit Tests in a manually maintained(!), separate vcproj from your production classes will add so much overhead that TDD "isn't possible". As far as I am aware, you do not add extra "projects" to a Java or C# thing to enable Unit Tests and TDD, and for a good reason. This should be possible with C++ given the right tools, but it seems (this question is about) that there are very little tools for TDD/C++/VS. Googling around, I've found one tool, VisualAssert, that seems to aim in the right direction. However, afaiks, it doesn't seem to be in widespread use (compared to CppUnit, Boost.Test etc.). Edit: I would like to add a comment to the context for this question. I think it does a good summary of outlining (part of) the problem: (comment by Billy ONeal) Visual Studio does not use "build scripts" that are reasonably editable by the user. One project produces one binary. Moreover, Java has the property that Java never builds a complete binary -- the binary you build is just a ZIP of the class files. Therefore it's possible to compile separately then JAR together manually (using e.g. 7z). C++ and C# both actually link their binaries, so generally speaking you can't write a script like that. The closest you can get is to compile everything separately and then do two linkings (one for production, one for testing).

  I have been trying to configure munin-plugins-rails to monitor the performance of our rails apps from Munin. The graphs appear, but no data is shown in the graphs. The log files show Error output from : 2013/06/27-15:39:06 [5540] Request-log-analyzer, by Willem van Bergen and $ 2013/06/27-15:39:06 [5540] Website: http://railsdoctors.com I have tried running Request-log-analyzer manually and pointing it at the production log file, and this reports as % for every item. There is data in the log file. I have tried changing the version of the gems installed, and also the type of the log file, but no luck. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

• Problems using wxWidgets (wxMSW) within multiple DLL instances

  Preface I'm developing VST-plugins which are DLL-based software modules and loaded by VST-supporting host applications. To open a VST-plugin the host applications loads the VST-DLL and calls an appropriate function of the plugin while providing a native window handle, which the plugin can use to draw it's GUI. I managed to port my original VSTGUI code to the wxWidgets-Framework and now all my plugins run under wxMSW and wxMac but I still have problems under wxMSW to find a correct way to open and close the plugins and I am not sure if this is a wxMSW-only issue. Problem If I use any VST-host application I can open and close multiple instances of one of my VST-plugins without any problems. As soon as I open another of my VST-plugins besides my first VST-plugin and then close all instances of my first VST-plugin the application crashes after a short amount of time within the wxEventHandlerr::ProcessEvent function telling me that the wxTheApp object isn't valid any longer during execution of wxTheApp-FilterEvent (see below).   whenever i use a open source library eg. Doctrine i always ending up coding a class (so called Facade) to use the Doctrine library. so next time i want to create a user i just type: $fields = array('name' => 'peter', 'email' => '[email protected]'); Doctrine_Facade::create_entity($entity, $fields); then it creates an entity with the provided information. so i guess, all coders will create their own "Facade". i wonder how usual it is with open source Facades to download and interact with the open source libraries? is this rare cause i haven't seen any of these. in some frameworks i have seen them called plugins, eg. plugins for twitter api or facebook api. so whenever you download a library, should you search for plugins/facades on the net, or is it better to just try coding your own? i just thought it would be great for everyone not to reinvent the wheel. thanks.

  I'm currently in the process of refactoring my webplayer so that we'll be more easily able to run it on our other internet radio stations. Much of the setup between these players will be very similar, however, some will need to have different UI plugins / other plugins. Currently in the webplayer I do something like this in it's init(): _this.ui = new UI(); _this.ui.playlist = new Playlist(); _this.ui.channelDropdown = new ChannelDropdown(); _this.ui.timecode = ne Timecode(); etc etc This works fine but that blocks me into requiring those objects at run time. What I'd like to do is be able to add those based on the stations needs. Basically my question is, do I need to add some kind of "addPlugin()" functionality here? And if I do that, do I need to constantly check from my WebPlayer object if that plugin exists before it attempts to use it? Like... if (_hasPlugin('playlist')) this.plugins.playlist.add(track); I apologize if some of this might not be clear... really trying to get my head wrapped around all of this. I feel I'm closer but I'm still stuck. Any advice on how I should proceed with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Lee

• TinyMCE loading lang/plugins/theme from incorrect directory

  I am having trouble with TinyMCE. When it is searching for the lang, theme, and plugins, it is supposed to look in the directory where the base script files are located. however, instead of doing that, it is using the current loaded page as the root for searching. I am looking at the "loadScripts" function in the src file, but changing the path doesn't seem to provide any meaningful effect.   Hi, I'm trying to develop a gantt like chart using jquery plugins and asp.net mvc2... on the y-axis i like to have names of people to whom tasks will be assigned... while on the x-axis i like to have the tasks... i haven't found good plugins for this...so any suggestions??? it is also important to have more than 1 task on a row, i.e. sam kan have more than 1 task on the same row... i'm thankful for your help Lina
