  • Flickering issue in external monitor when used with Acer Aspire One D260 netbook (Intel GMA 3150)

    I recently purchased a Acer netbook, Aspire One D260. It runs flawlessly. Yesterday I bought a Samsung 23" TFT with a native resolution of 1920x1080. According to the information found in the internet and my local computer dealer, the Intel chipset can handle the native resolution of the monitor. However, this is only partly the case. I use the VGA cable to connect, the monitor instantly switches to the native resolution and now the problem: Occasionally, especially the first 2 hours after booting up, I have a flickering all over the screen, sometimes the entire screen is shaking and spinning around like crazy. I figured out that lowering the resolution avoids the flicker but this helps only for some time. I can rule out that it's the monitor's problem since I found no issues with another notebook. Right now, I have no problems with the netbook, for about 30 minutes I didn't experience any issues... But I don't know for how long, it occurs without warning :-) I'm worried that if I would bring the netbook back to the dealer and explain my problem, after testing it on an external screen in the local shop, everything works just fine... And I won't get helped with the problem because I can't prove it. (I'm currently in Thailand and over here, customer service is nothing like back home in Germany) What can I do? Is this a driver related issue? (I installed the latest GPU driver) Is it because of the VGA cable? (But why does it work sometimes without any problems and with no issues on the other notebook) I monitored the GPU/CPU temperature, nothing changes really over time.. Can it simply be a faulty GPU and is a replacement justifiable? I'm really stressed now because for the time I'm writing, the flickering didn't occur... but for sure, soon or later it will happen again.. I forgot to mention, the problem also happens if the netbook runs on battery, unplugged. So the only hardware that is plugged is the TFT screen. ...........and here it comes again, flickering has just begun. NEED HELP!     I have bought Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. It's working just as I want it except that "back" button on the right side. I constantly hit it with the thumb and browser goes back. I am not used to this behavior, since my older mouse didn't have such a button. I just want to get rid of it -- disable the button once and forever, so if I clicked it -- nothing should happen.

    What might be the most compatible linux distro for notebooks. Mine is an compaq b1200. With windows 7 installed and I want to dual boot it with a linux distro. I already tried ubuntu 10.04 notebook edition but no luck because the graphics is so slow. When you try to point on an option it takes about 30 seconds for it to respond. Please recommend a distro that is most likely compatible with most notebooks.

    I have a server that runs vsftpd to handle ftp connections. One of my users have a notebook with Total Commander and WinSCP installed. Both ftp clients fail right after the connection is established to the server and it tries to download the directory listing without any particular error message. The weird thing is: the notebook works perfectly ok with other ftp servers. My ftp server also works well with other clients. In fact, this user also has a pc running on the same LAN as the notebook and the pc works well with the ftp server. We use active ftp connection mode. Passive mode works well but is not an option at this point. I would post more technical details but I don't even know what this problem is related to. Anyway, below is the server side tcpdump for the failed connection attempt. There's no further communication between the client and the server after the last line of log.   • Is possible to boot on PXE over a WiFi device?

    As I know it is possible to boot up some bootable images (like Linux, Clonezilla, management applications and others) over a PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) server with an Ethernet device (802.3). Can the same thing be done with an Ethernet WiFi (802.11) device? I tested with my notebook but my BIOS appears to not enable booting from WiFi devices. Is it possible with some specific WiFi cards and/or a specific BIOS?

There is SkyDrive app installed, but it can't sync, I can only access the files one by one. And the usual desktop sync program can't be installed since the system is not x86 but ARM instead. So how do I sync SkyDrive to this device??

  • Windows 8 Fails to resume from sleep

    I have this weird issue. When I put the computer to sleep by pressing the power button, or using the sleep option in Charms, I can wake it up normally. However, if I close the lid, and later reopen it, all the fans come on, but nothing appears on the screen. I didn't have this issue using Windows 7.   • Why does my font in the OneNote 2010 beta keep changing back to a non-default?

    In OneNote options I've set a particular default font. Then I selected all text in a particular notebook section and change it to the new font. However, whenever I insert a new line in that existing body of text, it reverts to a font that isn't my default. Almost as if the incorrect "style" information is somehow embedded in the existing text, even though the text itself is the correct font. How can I resolve this?

  • Windows XP: saving large files on network share stalls

    When I transfer larger files (a few hundred MB) on a network share (either Buffalo LinkStation or other Windows machine) from my Windows XP Pro SP3, it always stalls. Smaller files are no problem, reading from a network share is also no problem. I already had this problem on my notebook and now on my desktop machine, so I assume that it most likely is no driver problem. Does anybody have a clue what could be the problem — or better: the solution?

    I have a Spanish keyboard on my notebook, but I use it mostly for English and Chinese writing. This is how I configured the languages: However, Windows added some layouts on its own (probably when connecting via Remote Desktop to computers with different languages/layouts): Those layouts are all part of the AltShift cycle, which is extremely annoying. How can I remove ENG/US and ESP, considering they don't show in the configuration list? Is there a way to prevent them from being added again?

  • Mouse and touchpad move at different speeds

    I have a compaq 610 running windows 7, and I use a USB mouse on it. The pointer speed is different for the mouse and the touchpad, so when I go to a meeting and take the notebook but not the mouse, the pointer moves too slow using the touchpad and I have to manually adjust it (of course when I return, I have to slow it down because the mouse would move the pointer too fast). Is there any way to fix this, or to have this setting separate for both devices?

    It came with my Sony VAIO® VPCF133FX/H 16.4" Notebook. Ubuntu does suggest an NVIDIA driver for me, but when I install it, I cannot boot back in normally. I have to boot into a failsafe mode, then reset graphics setting to default, and reboot again. Right now I am stuck in 800 x 600 mode, but I would like to do better, and take advantage of my 1GB graphics memory :(. Please let me know if you have questions.

    I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 notebook with integrated GMA 965 VGA, using Windows 7. All my drivers are up to date, downloaded directly from the vendor site, installed with administrative privileges, etc. Yet, all OpenGL applications cannot render the interface (or any visuals). Examples are Blender (3D modeling software) and Babo Violent (top-down FPS). All the controls, sound effects and music are live, but the screen is black or light gray, respectively. What can one do?
