• gpg passcode error

  I just created my gpg key using developer.ubuntu.com packaging page's documentation and also upload the public key in key server. When i import the key into launchpad it sent me an encrypted message. Now i give a command to decrypt the message gpg -d launchpad.txt it asked for a passcode. I gave one which i used to create gpg key. but it shows error again again. I repeat the process(gpg creation) again but stuck on .... passcode(decryption). What is the problem?

• Terminator Skull Crafted from Dollar Store Parts [Video]

  Earlier this year we shared an Iron Man prop build made from Dollar Store parts. The same Dollar Store tinker is at it again, this time building a Terminator endoskull. James Bruton has a sort of mad tinker knack for finding odds and ends at the Dollar Store and mashing them together into novel creations. In the video below, he shows how he took a pile of random junk from the store (plastic bowls, cheap computer speakers, even the packaging the junk came in) and turned it into a surprisingly polished Terminator skull. • cannot add movie file to pitivi

  when i try adding this movie file to pitivie i get the error as follows (i can play the file in mplayer just fine tho): Problem: An internal error occurred while analyzing this file: Could not find GStreamer caps mapping for FFmpeg codec 'h264', and you are using an external libavcodec. This is most likely due to a packaging problem and/or libavcodec having been upgraded to a version that is not compatible with this version of gstreamer-ffmpeg. Make sure your gstreamer-ffmpeg and libavcodec packages come from the same source/repository. • How to import a pdf in libreoffice? under ubuntu, all pages are blank

  I have some .pdf generated by a scanner, that I want to import in LibreOffice and do some small editing. The PDF has only one object per page, a page-size image. If I open it in LibreOffice under Ubuntu 12.10, it imports "successfully" but all pages are blank. I have the libreoffice-pdfimport package installed. That is true with both LibreOffice 3.6 (part of Ubuntu 12.10) and with 4.0.2, from libreoffice ppa. The same .pdf files open perfectly fine on both LibreOffice for Windows and LibreOffice for Mac (yes, I have three computers with all three OSes), but on Ubuntu 12.10, all pages are blank, so I can only conclude this is an issue with Ubuntu packaging, or something really weird prevents it from working under linux. How can I import these kinds of .pdf into LibreOffice for editing?

• What do you think about gems and eggs? Alternatives?

  I've read recently some criticism (see 1, 2, 3) about the packaging distribution system of two popular programming languages: Ruby gems and Python eggs. The most important argument stated against them is that they replace the system package manager (in case there is one, as in every Linux distribution), which makes eggs and gems difficult to track, code difficult to patch, and so on. Are actually eggs and gems right? In case not, are there any alternatives to distributing Python or Ruby modules? Should developers focus on taking advantage of package manager (apt-get, pacman, ...) capabilities?

• A simple deployment example using Oracle Solaris 11

  Last week I was over in Melbourne and Sydney to present at an Oracle Technology Network System Administration Day. During a set of morning sessions, I presented on some of the new things that we've done in Oracle Solaris 11 and our focus for the future. One of the sessions I presented was giving a quick technical overview of what a typical application deployment scenario would look like using technologies like the Image Packaging System (IPS), Service Management Facility (SMF), Oracle Solaris Zones, and network virtualization. While it's just a simple example, it provides the basic building blocks for a more advanced configuration that a data center would typically deploy. Given these would likely be of general interest, I thought I'd upload the slides for others to view - enjoy! The good news is that he first part seems easy enough and CruiseControl.NET can work off Git repositories. The bad news is that according to my searches, nobody has ever tried to do this. • Introduction to JBatch

  It seems batch processing is moving more and more into the realm of the Java developer. In recognition of this fact, JBatch (aka Java Batch, JSR 352, Batch Applications for the Java Platform) was added to Java EE 7. In a recent article JBatch specification lead Chris Vignola of IBM provides a high level overview of the API. He discusses the core concepts/motivation, the Job Specification Language, the reader-processor-writer pattern, job operator, job repository, chunking, packaging, partitions, split/flow and the like. • Ops Center and Oracle Solaris 11

  There have been a few questions about Ops Center and S11 recently. People have been trying to discover and update S11 from Enterprise Controllers installed on S10 or Linux, and running into problems, and wondering what the solution is. Well, the solution is that, if you want to be able to discover, monitor, and update S11 OSes, you need to install your Enterprise Controller and at least one Proxy Controller on S11 systems. The Oracle Solaris and Linux install guides both note this in the chapters that cover preparing your environment. Technically, if you have an S11 Proxy Controller you can at least discover, manage, and monitor S11 systems. However, features like the automated installer and the image packaging system (for OS updates) can only be used through Ops Center if your Enterprise Controller is installed on S11 as well.

• Dynamic quicklist: how to reference to .desktop file? (installed in /opt)

  I'm trying to create a dynamic quicklist for an application I'm developing in quickly. This is the line of code I use to try and connect to the .desktop file: self.launcher = Unity.LauncherEntry.get_for_desktop_id("my-app.desktop") For testing purposes, I've found that when using quickly run I should copy the .desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications. When I do this, the quicklist shows up correctly. However, when packaging my app using quickly package --extras, and installing this package, I get a launcher without quicklist. Does this have something to do with my app being installed in /opt? Meaning my desktop file is located somewhere else? Should I use another reference to the desktop file?

• How do I get a Realtek Wireless USB Airlink101 AWLL5088 working?

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10, 32bit. I ordered them a Realtek Airlink101 AWLL5088 based upon the relative ease for linux installation. I am having trouble installing the drivers. I copied the drivers to /usr/src/ and ran sudo ./install.sh from that director listed above. I have tried ndiswrapper, and allowing the default drivers, but with no luck. It seems to continue to try and use the default free drivers, even though I have blacklisted them using the guide described here. There was no error, I was asked which card I was using. I looked at the packaging and at the support page, and guessed number 2, allowed to finish, and rebooted. It continued detect the wireless network after the reboot, but would never complete the connection. I would appreciate any feedback. I am kind of stuck trying to figure this out.

  Well I wanted to figure out how the new JavaFX native packaging worked, so with a little work, I have written up my findings. Create a Windows Native Installer and EXE with JavaFX and NetBeans 7.2All the information is in the articles I have linked to at the end of the page. However, I hopefully have pulled together all the key facts in one place. In addition, I tried to document all the problems I ran into in the troubleshooting section. So what is the end result?  With everything installed, building an application in NetBeans creates an EXE installer, an MSI installer, and an EXE file to execute your application. Really slick professional stuff. This is a great addition to the whole Java platform.

I was reading about PyGTK and it seems that PyGtk runs on MS Windows too. So, can I execute an app built with Quickly on MS Windows? If so, how? Which is the file (.py) that I have to execute on MS Windows? (a Quickly project has many .py files) Thanks. Ariel

• How to use bundler gem binaries in path

  I just started using bundler for gem packaging in vendor/. The problem is with certain gems (like rspec and cucumber) that have binaries. The binary path that is under my_app/vendor/gems/ruby/1.8/...cucumber-0.6.2/bin/ is not in my path, therefore when I go to run cucumber i get command cannot be found. What is the easiest way to execute the bundled gem binaries from within the app rather than adding a large number of folders to my path? Thanks

In that project, I output a zip file packaging up all of the images, CSS, etc. I have several of those virtualhost projects for different clients and my question is, how do I unpack the zip file that was already installed into the maven repository to the jetty web root?
