• Getting progress status out of a class library method

  This app that I am doing uses a class library (if I dare call it that) to do the bulk of the work: 2 main methods in there (DoWork and UndoWork) use the other classes to achieve thier goal. Now that that works, I want to get out of the Console test enviroment and do a GUI. How would I get the status of say, the DoWork() method to update a progress bar? Should I multilate the class library (which currently works with the Console and Windows.Forms) to update? The problem with that is that I would surely have to make the class library use Window.Forms which will mess up the console testing apps (And there are lots of them - I tested all the way through, and then all together). Could you suggest some ideas, or places I can read up about ideas (the whole point of writing this this program is to learn, afer all)? Oh, by the way, suggestions like "foresight" or "planning" probably won't help here...(now, anywyay!) - But certainly will in future projects!

• jQuery Upload Progress Plugin Not working in Chrome and Safari

  I am using the jquery.uploadprogress plugin to get the upload progress of a file from the NginxHttpUploadProgressModule. This is inside an iframe for a facebook application. It works in firefox, but it fails in chrome/safari. When I open the console I get this. Uncaught ReferenceError: progressFrame is not defined jquery.uploadprogress.js:80 Any idea how I would fix that? I would like to also send the file using AJAX when it is completed. How would I implement that? EDIT: I need this soon and it is important so I am going to put a 100 point bounty on this question. The first person to answer it will receive the 100 points.   Hi, what could be the reason if browser is showing progress bar (stuck at half) as if it is still trying to load something, even after the page is rendered. this is an intranet ASP.NET website. how can I find out the reason? the browser is IE8. actually this started after the browser is upgraded from IE6 to IE8. not sure if this issue has anything to do with browser upgrade. will the tools like Fiddler can help to find out what it is still trying to load? thanks in advance.

  I have to develop a class which can run it's own hard-coded task in a background thread and communicate with container class sending him progress updates and taking messages from it. I believe I am going to extend BackgroundWorker class but it looks a bit weird to extend and I haven't managed to find a good example wit Google. Can you share a link to a good example of solving such a task? Please don't offer placing a BackgroundWorker visually on a form and reading the standard tutorial, it's not for my case. Maybe I'd better not extend but encapsulate a BackgroundWorker, but I hardly understand how to use it outide WinForms designer either :-(

  I have a php script on a web server that uploads a file to another remote server via ftp_put. How can I display the current upload progress to the user? The only similar system I've seen is for file uploads from the user, with ajax requests to check the local size of the uploaded file on the server. The equivalent system would be ajax requests to the web server, that then checked file sizes on the remote server and returned that data to the user's clientscript. This seems horribly inefficient to me. Is there a better way?

  Hello everyone, I am interested in finding the most reliable method for uploading files in PHP. I need a progress bar with the upload. I have tried SWFUpload but it randomly issues an I/O Error. Even if the same file is uploaded sometimes there is an error and sometimes there is not. I have configured all the necessary INI/Mysql/Apache directives to accept large file uploads. So, I am looking for alternatives as a Flash based solution has not worked. Would Java be more relirable? I have also looked into PHP with APC. I definitely cannot afford these random errors, so any help on reliable software / suggestions on how to minimize them would be appreciated. Thank you.

Since the Twitter API only returns followers 100 at a time, a complete process may involve lots of calls. At the moment, I have an Ajax call to a method that runs the Twitter loop. Everything is working, but the updateFollowers method can take a fair amount of time. Is there some way I could return a progress value? • How to get rid of the 'progress' cursor?

  I have an interval that launches an AJAX call to check if there is any update for the page (I imagine that it's similar to the mechanism used by Facebook or StackExchange to check for new notifications). The problem is that this call changes the cursor to the 'progress' or 'busy' cursor (visual problem) and disables to option to click on links (functional problem). I suppose both problems are related. How can get rid of this effect or at least minimize the consequences?   Hi, I'm working on a database upgrader application. The upgrader updates the schema of a database ( adds new columns, renames columns , adds new tables, new views to an existing database by executing SQL statements ). When a user wants to upgrade from version 1.0 to 2.0 , "Upgrader" objects are taken from an object factory and the "Execute" method of each "Upgrader" is called. The GUI of the application has a progress bar and each time an upgrader object performs a SQL statement the progress bar gets incremented. while (!version.Equal(CurrentVersion)) { IUpgrader myUpgrader = UpgraderFactory.GetUpgrader(version); myUpgrader.Execute(UpgradedFile,progressbar); version.Increment(); } My question is very simple : how should the upgrader object communicate with the progressbar. • Long Running Stored Proc - Report Progress Using BackgroundWorker & Timer

  While a long running stored proc (RMR_Seek) is executing (called via a Linq-To-SQL data context) I am trying to call another stored proc (RMR_GetLatestModelMessage) to check a table for the latest status message. The long running stored proc updates the table in question with status messages as it executes. I want to display the status message on a message panel to advise the user of the status of the execution of Proc_A. For various reasons it is not possible to determine how long RMR_Seek will take to execute so a progress bar with percentage increments is not feasible. I thought I'd found the way to do it by calling the long running stored proc from in a BackgroundWorker process DoWork event handler. This worked fine and allowed me to update my message panel with some dummy status messages that were NOT obtained via Proc_B while Proc_A was running. However now that I have tried to implement this fully by calling Proc_B to obtain the status messages I am running into problems that seem to be related to the mix of the backgroundworker and my System.Windows.Forms.Timer. An extract of the code I am using is below. I have tried many different ways around this but each one seems to present its own set of problems. The code below is problematic in the bw_DoWork event. The RMR_Seek stored proc gets called but does not execute properly - it also seems to be inconsistent as to whether _IsCompleted gets set to true. • reloading page while an ajax request in progress gives empty response and status as zero

  Hi, Browser is firefox 3.0.10 I am requesting a page using ajax. The response is in progress may be in readyState less than 4. In this mean time i am trying to reload the page. What happens is the request ends giving an empty response. I used alert to find what string has been given as response text. I assume that by this time the ready state 4 is reached. why it is empty string. when i alert the xmlhttpobject.status it displayed 0. when i alert the xmlhttpobject.statusText an exception occurs stating that NOT AVAILABLE. when i read in the document http://www.devx.com/webdev/Article/33024/0/page/2 it said for 3 and 4 status and statusText are available but when i tested only status is available but not satausText Here is a sample code. consider that i have requested a page and my callback function is as follows function cb(rt) { if(rt.readyState==4) { alert(rt.status); alert(rt.statusText); // which throws an exception } } and my server side script is as follows sleep(30); //flushing little drop down code besides these i noticed the following... assume again i am requesting the above script using ajax. now there will be an idle time till 30 seconds is over before that 30 seconds i press refresh. i got xmlhttpobject.status as 0 but still the browser did not reload the page untill that 30 seconds. WHY? so what is happening when i refresh a page before an ajax request is complete is the status value is set to zero and the ready state is set to 4 but the page still waits for the response from the server to end... what is happening... THE REASON FOR ME TO FACE SOME THING LIKE THIS IS AS FOLLOWS. when ever i do an ajax request ... if the process succeeded like inserting some thing or deleting something i popup a div stating that updated successfully and i will reload the page. but if there is any error then i do not reload the page instead i just alert that unable to process this request. what happens if the user reloads the page before any of this request is complete is i get an empty response which in my calculation is there is a server error. so i was debugging the ajax response to filter out that the connection has been interrupted because the user had pressed reload. so in this time i don't want to display unable to process this request when the user reloads the page before the request has been complete. oh... a long story. IT IS A LONG DESCRIPTION SO THAT I CAN MAKE EXPERTS UNDERSTAND MY DOUBT. so what i want form the above. any type of answer would clear my mind. or i would like to say all type of answers. EDIT: 19 dec. If i did not get any correct answer then i would delete this question and will rewrite with examples. else i will accept after experimenting.

  I have a simple MFC program which displays the progressbar..I used the below code to display the progress bar.. And also while the progressbar is running if I try to move the progress bar window..it displays a windows background at the place of displacement and also in the new region or sometimes its getting stuck.Please help me with this!
