  • Log with iptalbes which user is delivering email to port 25

    - by Maus
Because we got blacklisted on CBL I set up the following firewall rules with iptables: #!/bin/bash iptables -A OUTPUT -d 127.0.0.1 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -m owner --gid-owner mail -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -m owner --uid-owner root -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -m owner --uid-owner Debian-exim -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m limit --limit 15/minute -m tcp --dport 25 -j LOG --log-prefix "LOCAL_DROPPED_SPAM" iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-port-unreachable I'm not able to connect to port 25 from localhost with another user than root or a mail group member - So it seems to work. Still some questions remain: How effective do you rate this rule-set to prevent spam coming from bad PHP-Scripts hosted on the server? Is there a way to block port 25 and 587 within the same statement? Is the usage of /usr/sbin/sendmail also limited or blocked by this rule-set? Is there a way to log the username of all other attempts which try to deliver stuff to port 25?

  • Sending a large number of mails causing problems on CentOS 6 / Plesk 10

    - by papakost
I have a VPS running CentOS 6. When the system tries to send daily newsletter, after some time (e.g. after sending about 2000 emails), I get error "Unable to send mail" and the system memory goes really high. Till this moment, the mails are delivered normally. The rest symptoms are: I cannot see anything on /var/log/maillog (File seems not to be written) All files on /var/spool/mail have 0 bytes size. From time to time on httpd log I get errors like: /usr/sbin/sendmail: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 23 "Activate mail service on domain" setting in Plesk is deactivated. Any idea on what's going wrong here?

  • Sending Emails from existing SMTP host from Ubuntu Server

    - by ezgoodnight
I feel like my problem is very simple, but I've been trying for quite some time and haven't cracked it. You experienced server guys will probably laugh at this, but I'm finally at the point I need help or I'll never get anywhere. I have a little box running 12.04 LTS and I've wanted to script some status checks and have the server send me an email and schedule this with cron. I basically want a command line mail client that I can set up as easily as Thunderbird to send through my existing SMTP through the command line. Something that can easily be rolled into my bash scripts. I already have a remote host handling our email, SMTP, MTA, all that garbage. I don't particularly want to set up a relay just to send email when I have one that everyone else in the company already uses. I've tried, but there are too many aspects I don't understand AND I don't see why I should set up something local when we already pay for a remote host to do these things. If I absolutely have to set up sendmail or postfix, then so be it, but I'd appreciate a simple alternative. I'm open to practically anything at this point.

  • migration of physical server to a virtual solution, what i have to do?

    - by bibarse
Hello I'm new in this forum, so i would like that you forgive me for my blissfully and my low English level. I'm a trainee in company one month ago, and my mission is to migrate 3 physicals servers to a virtualization technology. The company edit softwares for E-learning so there are lots of data like videos, flash and compressed (zip). This is some inventory of the servers: OS: Debian, 2 redhat, apache, php/mysql, sendMail/Dovecot, webmin with virtualmin template to create dynamically the web sites because there is no sysadmin ... The future provider will be responsible of to secure, update and create the virtual machines (outsourcing) and with a RedHat OS's. So i want that you help me to choose a virtualisation technologie (for the i prefer KVM of Redhat RHEV, VMWare is expensive), how evaluate the hardware needs (this for evolution of 4 or 5 years) and to elaborate a good planing to don't forget any think. Thank you for your responses.

  • Is it possible to cause email to my domain to be handled by gmail?

    - by pitosalas
[This is a very narrow question, and I don't think it is covered in similar sounding questions] I want to configure my server's DNS so that when someone sends email to [email protected] it is actually deliver it to [email protected] Note: My question is whether this is possible to do ONLY with DNS not with myserver.com's own sendmail. I think the answer is "NO" it is not possible, because when I add an MX record to DNS the email that was delivered to gmail's SMPT server would be TO: [email protected] and it would not know that account. (But I hasten to add that I am just vaguely starting to grok how this all works.)

  • Problem with Java Mail : No provider for smtp

    - by user359198
Hello all. I am using JavaMail to do a simple application that sends an email when it finds some files in a directory. I managed to get it worked from Eclipse. I Run the application and it sent the email with no errors. But, when I created the jar, and executed it, it fails in the email sending part. It gives this exception. javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException: No provider for smtp at javax.mail.Session.getProvider(Session.java:460) at javax.mail.Session.getTransport(Session.java:655) at javax.mail.Session.getTransport(Session.java:636) at main.java.util.MailManager.sendMail(MailManager.java:69) at main.java.DownloadsMail.composeAndSendMail(DownloadsMail.java:16) at main.java.DownloadsController.checkDownloads(DownloadsController.java:51) at main.java.MainDownloadsController.run(MainDownloadsController.java:26) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) I am using the library in this method: public static boolean sendMail(String subject, String text){ noExceptionsThrown = true; try { loadProperties(); } catch (IOException e1) { System.out.println("Problem encountered while loading properties"); e1.printStackTrace(); noExceptionsThrown = false; } Properties mailProps = new Properties(); String host = "mail.smtp.host"; mailProps.setProperty(host, connectionProps.getProperty(host)); String tls = "mail.smtp.starttls.enable"; mailProps.setProperty(tls, connectionProps.getProperty(tls)); String port = "mail.smtp.port"; mailProps.setProperty(port, connectionProps.getProperty(port)); String user = "mail.smtp.user"; mailProps.setProperty(user, connectionProps.getProperty(user)); String auth = "mail.smtp.auth"; mailProps.setProperty(auth, connectionProps.getProperty(auth)); Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(mailProps); //session.setDebug(true); MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage(session); try { message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(messageProps.getProperty("from"))); message.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress( messageProps.getProperty("to"))); message.setSubject(subject); message.setText(text); Transport t = session.getTransport("smtp"); try { t.connect(connectionProps.getProperty("user"), passwordProps .getProperty("password")); t.sendMessage(message, message.getAllRecipients()); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error encountered while sending the email"); e.printStackTrace(); noExceptionsThrown = false; } finally { t.close(); } } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error encountered while creating the message"); e.printStackTrace(); noExceptionsThrown = false; } return noExceptionsThrown; } I am loading these values from properties files. mail.smtp.host=smtp.gmail.com mail.smtp.starttls.enable=true mail.smtp.port=587 mail.smtp.auth=true I have tried to change the host by ssl://smtp.gmail.com, the port by 465 (just for trying something different), but it doesn't work either. Anyway, if it works fine from Eclipse with the original parameters, I guess that the values are correct, but the problem is creating the jar. I don't know very much about the possible results or changes when creating a jar. Could the JavaMail libraries someway go wrong when the jar is created? Do you have any ideas? Thank you very much for your help.

  • Send an email using python script

    - by nimmyliji
Hi, Today I needed to send email from a Python script. As always I searched Google and found the following script that fits to my need. import smtplib SERVER = "localhost" FROM = "[email protected]" TO = ["[email protected]"] # must be a list SUBJECT = "Hello!" TEXT = "This message was sent with Python's smtplib." # Prepare actual message message = """\ From: %s To: %s Subject: %s %s """ % (FROM, ", ".join(TO), SUBJECT, TEXT) # Send the mail server = smtplib.SMTP(SERVER) server.sendmail(FROM, TO, message) server.quit() But when I tried to run the program, I got the following error message: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/Python26/email.py", line 1, in <module> import smtplib File "C:\Python26\lib\smtplib.py", line 46, in <module> import email.utils File "C:/Python26/email.py", line 24, in <module> server = smtplib.SMTP(SERVER) AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'SMTP' How can i solve this problem? Any one can help me? Thanks in advance, Nimmy.

  • Changing color of the titlebar, background and text of MFMailComposeViewController

    - by iSharreth
    I am sending email from my iPhone application. Everything working fine, but I want to change the color of the title bar that appears from blue to black and the background color from white to black. Also, all the text to white color. What should I do? Anyone please help! I used the below code: (IBAction)sendMail{ MFMailComposeViewController *mailComposer = [[MFMailComposeViewController alloc]init]; mailComposer.mailComposeDelegate = self; if([MFMailComposeViewController canSendMail]){ [mailComposer setToRecipients: [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"[email protected]",nil]]; [mailComposer setSubject: nil]; [mailComposer setMessageBody: nil isHTML:NO]; [self presentModalViewController:mailComposer animated: YES]; }

  • Forensic Analysis of the OOM-Killer

    - by Oddthinking
Ubuntu's Out-Of-Memory Killer wreaked havoc on my server, quietly assassinating my applications, sendmail, apache and others. I've managed to learn what the OOM Killer is, and about its "badness" rules. While my machine is small, my applications are even smaller, and typically only half of my physical memory is in use, let alone swap-space, so I was surprised. I am trying to work out the culprit, but I don't know how to read the OOM-Killer logs. Can anyone please point me to a tutorial on how to read the data in the logs (what are ve, free and gen?), or help me parse these logs? Python is running two separate custom applications. Nothing in the logs to suggest they weren't humming along as normal. One of them was a relatively recent implementation, which makes suspect #1. It doesn't have any data-structures of any significance, and normally uses only about 8% of the total physical RAW. It hasn't misbehaved since. The grep is suspect #2, and the one I want to be guilty, because it was a once-off command. The command (which piped the output of a grep -r to another grep) had been started at least 30 minutes earlier, and the fact it was still running is suspicious. However, I wouldn't have thought grep would ever use a significant amount of memory. It took a while for the OOM killer to get to it, which suggests it wasn't going mad, but the OOM killer stopped once it was killed, suggesting it may have been a memory-hog that finally satisfied the OOM killer's blood-lust.

  • Unable to send email on production server with ASP.NET MVC

    - by Davide Vosti
I have a simple ASP.NET MVC application with a contact page. In my development machine (local) I can send successfully emails (I specify host and credentials), but on the production server this doesn't work and I get this error: System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail... The server is in my LAN (the mail server too). I tried with multiple accounts but I have errors every time. Credentials for the account are provided at runtime with smtp.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password"); Any idea? Thanks

  • How to pass get-parameter to backing bean in jsf?

    - by Roman
I have get parameter with name controller. When I try to pass it (with propertyChangeListener) to my backing bean I get null instead of the real value of the parameter: <h:commandButton value="#{msg['mail.send']}" styleClass="mailbutton" action="#{mailSender.sendMail}"> <f:setPropertyActionListener target="#{mailSender.controllerName}" value="{#param.controller}"/> </h:commandButton> So, I have two questions: What is the proper way to set bean property with a get-parameter value? Actually, I've already get the value from ExternalContext#getRequestParam but maybe there are some other solutions. More interesting question: why propertyActionListener didn't work here? What does it do actually? (again I have some thoughts about it but it would be nice to read more comprehensive explanations).

  • Email attachment problem

    - by Alan Harris-Reid
Hi there, I want to send an email with an attachment using the following code (Python 3.1) (greatly simplified to show the example) from email.mime.multipart import MIMEMultipart from email.mime.text import MIMEText msg = MIMEMultipart() msg['From'] = from_addr msg['To'] = to_addr msg['Subject'] = subject msg.attach(MIMEText(body)) fp = open(att_file) msg1 = MIMEText(fp.read()) attachment = msg1.add_header('Content-Disposition', 'attachment', filename=att_file) msg.attach(attachment) # set string to be sent as 3rd parameter to smptlib.SMTP.sendmail() send_string = msg.as_string() The attachment object msg1 returns 'email.mime.text.MIMEText' object at ', but when the msg1.add_header(...) line runs the result is None, hence the program falls-over in msg.as_string() because no part of the attachment can have a None value. (Traceback shows "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_content_maintype'" in line 118 of _dispatch in generator.py, many levels down from msg.as_string()) Has anyone any idea what the cause of the problem might be? Any help would be appreciated. Alan Harris-Reid

  • How can I send email attachment without using an additional library in Perl?

    - by CheeseConQueso
Hey, I was wondering if there is a way to attach files (specifically .csv files) to a mail message in Perl without using MIME::Lite or any other libraries. Right now, I have a 'mailer function' that works fine, but I'm not sure how to adapt it into attaching files. Here is what I have: open(MAIL, "|/usr/sbin/sendmail -t"); print MAIL "To: cheese\@yahoo.com\n"; print MAIL "From: queso\@what.com\n"; print MAIL "Subject: Attached is $filename\n\n"; print MAIL "$message"; close(MAIL); I think this is specific for UNIX.

  • Rails Mikel Mail Gem How to use Views

    - by Victor Martins
I'm trying to use mikel gem mail on my 2.3.5 Rails App http://github.com/mikel/mail I have it working like this. I've made a MailComHelper, made a method like this : def self.welcome(user, password) @user = user m = Mail.new m.from = '[email protected]' m.to = @user.email m.subject = 'welcome' m.body = 'The body' m.delivery_method :sendmail m.deliver! end And it works, I receive the mail. But I wish I could use the old way of calling a view ( html.erb ) file and send that code has the body. I've read the documentation but haven't found a way to do it. Has anyone found a way to do it?

  • Sending email from Drupal contact form, but GMail marks it as "Forged"

    - by James Shields
Hi, My Drupal site sends email to a GMail account, but the emails sent all go into the Spam folder, and GMail puts up a bar with the message "This message was likely forged and did not originate from your account." Although I can create a filter to prevent them going to Spam, I want to start sending newsletters, and I suspect they'll have the same problem. I suspect the problem is with the way I've set up either PHP or Drupal to send mail. As far as I know it's just using the sendmail function. I've set the from address to "info@..." where ... is the site domain. Any tips on how I can make set up my outgoing mail so it won't be refused by GMail (and presumably other major mail providers)? Thanks, James
