    On my ubuntu 10.04 VPS, I get regular 500 error on nginx (0.7.??)+ fcgi web server running a durpal site. and when I trace the nginx error log I see plenty of these: socket() failed: No buffer space available) while connecting to upstream ..., I have tried differnt combination configs but none fixed the problem. Currently I have 3 nginx workers, Keep-alive time out 15 seconds and and PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=5 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=1000 I really appreciate if you Can you suggest a solution to this annoying problem.

    I have a Windows Service that does the following when started. When running via a Console application it works fine, but once I put in a Windows Service I get the below exception.     Are there any important change in how SLES 10 implements Tcp sockets vs. SLES 9? I have several apps written in C# (.NET 3.5) that run on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. They've been running fine for over a year, getting market data from a SLES 9 machine using a socket connection. The machine was upgraded today to SLES 10 and its causing some strange behavior. The socket normally returns a few hundred or thousand bytes every second. But occasionally, I stop receiving data. Ten or more seconds will go by with no data and then Receive returns with a 10k+ bytes. And some buffer is causing data loss because the bytes I receive on the socket no longer make a correct packet. The only thing changed was the SLES 9 to 10 upgrade. And rolling back fixes this immediately. Any ideas?

    The difference between connection and read timeout, is that read specifies how long the data connection can be open until it automatically closesc, correct? A connection timeout specifies how long the socket should wait until a connection is established, correct? So if a connection timeout is set to "infinity" what does that really mean? Will it try to establish a connection and if no response is given (as on packets are lost? or port is down?) it will just idle? or will Could someone please explain the basics of network/socket timeouts? and in what situation can a client socket wait infinity?

    Hi, I'm trying to use the Java commands pw.println() and br.readLine() in Matlab because I have set up a socket (input_socket2) between Matlab and a command-line program I want to control using Java classes BufferedReader and PrintWriter. Before the following snippet of code, I implemented another socket that goes between 2 computers. This works great and I also know that the following snippet of code successfully opens up a communication line between Matlab and the other program. However, Matlab throws an error at pw.println('noop').     I have 2 interfaces on my server, eth0 and eth0:0. Those are 2 different external ips and obviously 2 different reverse domains. When i open a IO::Socket::INET Perl uses the eth0 interface by default. I would like to use the second interface (eth0:0) because this has a different ip and i dont want to use my main ip/domain. I have absolutely no idea how to select which interface to connect through.   • How to solve Python memory leak when using urrlib2?

    Hi, I'm trying to write a simple Python script for my mobile phone to periodically load a web page using urrlib2. In fact I don't really care about the server response, I'd only like to pass some values in the URL to the PHP. The problem is that Python for S60 uses the old 2.5.4 Python core, which seems to have a memory leak in the urrlib2 module. As I read there's seems to be such problems in every type of network communications as well. This bug have been reported here a couple of years ago, while some workarounds were posted as well. I've tried everything I could find on that page, and with the help of Google, but my phone still runs out of memory after ~70 page loads. Strangely the Garbege Collector does not seem to make any difference either, except making my script much slower. It is said that, that the newer (3.1) core solves this issue, but unfortunately I can't wait a year (or more) for the S60 port to come. here's how my script looks after adding every little trick I've found: import urrlib2, httplib, gc while(true): url = "http://something.com/foo.php?parameter=" + value f = urllib2.urlopen(url) f.read(1) f.fp._sock.recv=None # hacky avoidance f.close() del f gc.collect() Any suggestions, how to make it work forever without getting the "cannot allocate memory" error? Thanks for advance, cheers, b_m update: I've managed to connect 92 times before it ran out of memory, but It's still not good enough. update2: Tried the socket method as suggested earlier, this is the second best (wrong) solution so far: class UpdateSocketThread(threading.Thread): def run(self): global data while 1: url = "/foo.php?parameter=%d"%data s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) s.connect(('something.com', 80)) s.send('GET '+url+' HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\n') s.close() sleep(1) I tried the little tricks, from above too. The thread closes after ~50 uploads (the phone has 50MB of memory left, obviously the Python shell has not.) UPDATE: I think I'm getting closer to the solution! I tried sending multiple data without closing and reopening the socket. This may be the key since this method will only leave one open file descriptor.     hi, I am using C#. I have one socket server in PC A and three socket clients in PC B,PC C,and PC D.When PC A receives data, I want to send this data to either PC B or PC C or PC D. I mean i don't want to send this data to all PC.I just want to send the PC i need to send. Now, when server receives data from one client PC, it sends back to all clients PC. Thank you.

    Where in the linux kernel does the closing of a socket's file descriptor occur? I know for a file, the file's file descriptor is closed in fs/open.cs function sys_close(). However, for a socket file descriptor, is this the same location or somewhere else? Also, do sockets utilize the file.c alloc_fd to allocate the file descriptor or do they utilize some other function?

  • What does it mean to flush a socket?

    I don't really know much about sockets except how to read and write to them as if they were files. I know a little about using socket selectors. I don't get why you have to flush a socket, what's actually happening there? The bits just hang out somewhere in memory until they get pushed off? I read some things online about sockets, but it's all very abstract and high level. What's actually happening here?
