  • Unique id of a column

    Hi. Does each column of a table in SQL Server have a unique id? I've looked into sys.columns and the column_id there is merely the order of the columns which changes if the order of the column is changed. I'd like to know if SQL Server maintains a unique id for each column as it does for each table and other objects. And if it does, how can I get that? Thanks.

  • What causes MSSQL to return the message 'The statement has been terminated'?

    I have a very simple INSERT statement being executed from a PHP script running on a Linux Apache web server. I can run the query fine from within SQL Management Studio and it normally runs fine from PHP as well. However, every once in awhile I get an error message from my PHP script that the query failed and the mssql_get_last_message() function returns 'The statement has been terminated'. What sources can cause this message to be returned from MSSQL?

  • Replace always replacing null values

    Why does left(FIELD, replace(nullif(charindex('-', FIELD), 0), null, len(FIELD))) always return null? The idea behind the query is that if charindex() returns 0, then convert the results into null, then convert the null into the length of the field. So if '-' does not exist, show the whole string. For some reason it makes every row equal null. Thank you.

  • How can I exclude LEFT JOINed tables from TOP in SQL Server?

    Let's say I have two tables of books and two tables of their corresponding editions. I have a query as follows: SELECT TOP 10 * FROM (SELECT hbID, hbTitle, hbPublisherID, hbPublishDate, hbedID, hbedDate FROM hardback LEFT JOIN hardbackEdition on hbID = hbedID UNION SELECT pbID, pbTitle, pbPublisher, pbPublishDate, pbedID, pbedDate FROM paperback Left JOIN paperbackEdition on pbID = pbedID ) books WHERE hbPublisherID = 7 ORDER BY hbPublishDate DESC If there are 5 editions of the first two hardback and/or paperback books, this query only returns two books. However, I want the TOP 10 to apply only to the number of actual book records returned. Is there a way I can select 10 actual books, and still get all of their associated edition records? In case it's relevant, I do not have database permissions to CREATE and DROP temporary tables. Thanks for reading! Update To clarify: The paperback table has an associated table of paperback editions. The hardback table has an associated table of hardback editions. The hardback and paperback tables are not related to each other except to the user who will (hopefully!) see them displayed together.

  • NHibernate not dropping foreign key constraints.

    I'm new to NHibernate, so this is probably my mistake, but when I use: schema.Create(true, true); I get: SchemaExport [(null)]- There is already an object named 'XXX' in the database. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: There is already an object named 'XXX' in the database. I grabbed the SQL code nHibernate was using, ran it directly from MSSMS, and recieved similar errors. Looking into it, the generated code is not properly dropping the foreign key constraints. The drop looks like this: if exists (select 1 from sysobjects where id = OBJECT_ID(N'dbo[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]') AND parent_obj = OBJECT_ID('YYY')) alter table dbo.YYY drop constraint FK22212EAFBFE4C58 Doing a "select OBJECT_ID(N'dbo[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]')" I get null. If I take out the "dbo" (i.e. "select OBJECT_ID(N'[FK22212EAFBFE4C58]')") then the ID is returned. I was about to write a script to step through(most likely on a unix host kicked off via cron); but there should be a simpler method to export the tables directly (SQLite not an option in the included DTS Import/Export wizard) What would the most efficient method of dumping the SQL Server tables to SQLite via batch be?

  • Software solution from the 2000's, should I attempt to patch or remake the whole thing?

    I was sent out to discuss a system that a certain company is currently using and what should be done with it. The company manufactures various carton displays. This system was developed to keep track of clients, orders and prices. Lots have happened since the system was created and the system is now, as the manager described it, "locked up" and "problematic", which I translate as "not dynamic" and "unstable". Some info about the system It was developed around the year 2000 Fairly small system, 2-5 users, 6 forms, ~8 tables with average quantities of data Built on early Visual Basic, forms created with the drag and drop design. Interface is basically just a window with a menu and some forms Uses MSSQL database (SQL2005 server) to store data and ODBC driver to query, data was migrated from excel before this system, and before excel it was handled, calculated and written by hand and paper Users work in Microsoft XP environment (and up) Their main problem is that they can't adjust and calculate prices, can't add new carton types etc, correctly anymore because they can't (or rather, they don't know how to) touch the data on the server. I suggested 3 possible solutions Attempt to patch the current system Create a fresh new interface (preferably similar environment, VB.net or VB based) Bring it back to an Excel solution, considering it is such a small system There might be more options, but these are the ones I could think of. My questions are What should I recommend and why? What is or could be the pros and cons of these alternatives? Are there other (possibly better) alternatives?

    My wifi Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 keeps dropping wificonnection drops and the network to which I was connected disappears from the list of available networks in network manager. The only way to fix it is to disable wifi and re-enable it How can I fix this. I'm using ubuntu 14.04 64bit. It mostly drops connections on the 5ghz network.   • Get-ChildItem fails to connect in SQLSERVER drive

    I'm having some trouble with the SQLSERVER PSDRIVE. See error below. I only have named instances on my PC, both 2005 and 2008 Added the SQL snapins. The PC is named YODA The SQL instance is SQL2008 Navigate to the Databases folder for YODA\SQL2008. You can see the path below. dir -name spits out a connection error trying to connect to YODASQL2008\DEFAULT when it should be trying to connect to YODA\SQL2008. Then it outputs the db name which is Twitter in this case. Is there something missing from my config?   • Unicenter Software Delivery 4 not able to connect to MS SQL 2000 Database after W2003 SP2 upgrade

    Hello Everyone Yesterday I installed the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Server 2003 which has Unicenter Software Delivery 4 installed. Prior to the installation I disabled every CA service on the server (Brightstor, SDO , RCO, TNG) and the MS SQL 2000 service. After the installation of the SP2 I enabled the services again but the Unicenter Service is not able to connect to the MS SQL 2000 Database anymore. The database itself is up and running and I can connect to it with the Enterprise Manager. A dbcc checkdb doesnt return any errors on the Unicenter database.   • How can I synchronize Google contacts and calendar with Palm Centro and Outlook 2000?

    Seeking a free solution to synchronize my calendar and contacts between my Palm Centro and Google contacts and calendar. I currently sync my Palm contacts and calendar with Outlook 2000 on Windows XP. Google Calendar Sync does not support Outlook 2000, and I would rather not pay to upgrade Outlook just for this, as I don't even use Outlook much anymore. I wouldn't mind migrating my calendar and contacts off of it, as long as I can still sync with the Palm. I don't have an unlimited data plan for my Centro, so I can't use a solution that wirelessly syncs directly to Google. I have set up GCALDaemon to sync up my Google calendar with multiple machines running Rainlendar, but I have not yet figured out a way to synchronize that data with the Palm.
