  • Notification / tray icon / applet drop downs disappear or flicker when clicked

    For some reason, after upgrading to 11.10, the tray icon drop-down menus don't persist after a single click about 2/3 of the time. They always work if I click-and-hold, but I'm used to just clicking once to examine the menu. The behavior is not consistent, so the drop down menus will stay after click about 1 in 3 times. I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu on a dual-monitor setup. EDIT: from lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation M116N (rev a2)

  • UIM notification area icon in Unity, Oneiric?

    When I was using Maverick, it was possible to switch the input method from a UIM indicator applet. Now that I have upgraded to Oneiric, I can't seem to switch the input method even when I open uim-im-switcher-gtk. This is necessary for me because I need to be able to switch back and forth between English and Tibetan and the keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work until after I've changed the input method from the panel first. Is there some way to get a UIM indicator on the Unity panel? This is a major regression for me and makes it impossible to do certain kinds of work in Ubuntu.

  • Sometimes new windows don't come to the front when launched

    I'm using gnome shell with new ubuntu for few days now and have experienced really annoying behaviour with new windows. Sometimes when I use another window and press e.g. Alt Ctrl T to open new terminal window, I don't get this window being brought to front. Instead I get notification at the bottom that "New terminal window is ready to use". The same is with Pidgin being integrated with gnome shell (via extension). Every time I get new message, window pops up but doesn't show. I need to either Alt Tab it or click the notification. Is there any way to have new windows being always brought to front, and remove those annoying "Window is ready" notifications?   • Defining and selecting an area from an image

    I want to create a game, where the world is loaded from an image file, much like Paradox Interactive does it for their games. If I have this image: Then the red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, white, black and grey should be different provinces. I know how to loop through them, and check if it's a new province, the problem is that I don't know how to define the region of the province for selection: I don't know how I can load in data, to make sure you can click anywhere on that province, and make sure it gets selected.

No need for a 'register' page - users will be added on the back-end. Can anyone recommend the best approach for this? Are there good plugins to handle this kind of thing?     I am trying to create a site that will allow you to type a sentence or passage of text, then click on words to bring up a list of synonyms (from an online API) and possibly authorized abbreviations from a list that I provide, then once clicked on it would replace that word with the word that was clicked on. It would function kind of like After the Deadline or a Javascript based spell checker. Are there any libraries set up to make something like this easy, or what kind of Javascript do I need to be looking at? Are there any tutorials or examples for this kind of thing? I am aware that the source code for After the Deadline is available, but I only need a small portion of their technology, not all of the actual grammar and spelling check technology.

    An interface defines a contract to be implemented by one or more classes.  One of the keys to a well-designed interface is defining a very specific range of functionality. The profile of the interface should be limited to a single purpose & should have the minimum methods required to implement this functionality.  Keeping the interface tight will keep those implementing the interface from getting lazy & not implementing it properly.  I've seen too many overly broad interfaces that aren't fully implemented by developers.  Instead, they just throw a NotImplementedException for the method they didn't implement. One way to help with this issue, is by using extension methods to move overloaded method definitions outside of the interface.   • Help deciding on an area of study for a PhD [closed]

    I am going to start a PhD in about 1 year. My undergraduate degree is in computer science and my master's is in artificial intelligence. I want to get ideas about what's going to be hot in say 5 years i.e. what could I spend 3-4 years studying to potentially have expertise that will be applicable to industry and the computing world ? Impossible to answer factually but some ideas and thoughts would be great. I have narrowed my ideas down to AI (yes, even more AI) and information security. AI seems to becoming popular again but security is always a going to be useful. From a career point of view, if I were to stay working in software development then this might actually be the best move but I've always wanted to do a PhD! Many thanks :).

And I would like to add a tray-icon for it so users can control the application window and recording from it. Adding a tray icon: I have planned to use the GtkStatusIcon class for this task.     I upgraded to Wndows 7 and have a problem with graphics with my NVIDIA GeoForce Go 7600 not displaying properly. Also the Base System Drivers have yellow flags near them and it states that the The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver. Any clues??? Please help!

  • Windows 7 System Tray Date Display Not Appearing

    I'm using Windows 7 RC and for some reason, the date won't show at all on my system tray. It used to for a while, but one day it just stopped (I didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out). So I've been trying to fix it, by customizing the format of the date, resetting to defaults, etc... But nothing works, it still doesn't show. The time appears fine.
