  • Elegantly handling constraint violations in EJB/JPA environment?

    - by hallidave
I'm working with EJB and JPA on a Glassfish v3 app server. I have an Entity class where I'm forcing one of the fields to be unique with a @Column annotation. @Entity public class MyEntity implements Serializable { private String uniqueName; public MyEntity() { } @Column(unique = true, nullable = false) public String getUniqueName() { return uniqueName; } public void setUniqueName(String uniqueName) { this.uniqueName = uniqueName; } } When I try to persist an object with this field set to a non-unique value I get an exception (as expected) when the transaction managed by the EJB container commits. I have two problems I'd like to solve: 1) The exception I get is the unhelpful "javax.ejb.EJBException: Transaction aborted". If I recursively call getCause() enough times, I eventually reach the more useful "java.sql.SQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException", but this exception is part of the EclipseLink implementation and I'm not really comfortable relying on it's existence. Is there a better way to get detailed error information with JPA? 2) The EJB container insists on logging this error even though I catch it and handle it. Is there a better way to handle this error which will stop Glassfish from cluttering up my logs with useless exception information? Thanks.

  • How to use SLF4J Log4jLoggerAdapter

    - by David Wong
I'm deploying an enterprise application on Weblogic 8.1 which has log4j 1.2.8 on it's classpath. I'm getting the following error with SLF4J 1.6.1: SLF4J versions 1.4.0 and later requires log4j 1.2.12 or later http://www.slf4j.org/codes.html#log4j_version Above link recommends using Log4jLoggerAdapter. I've changed Logger logger = LoggerFactory.getLogger(HelloWorld.class); logger.info("Hello World"); to Log4jLoggerAdapter logger = (Log4jLoggerAdapter) LoggerFactory.getLogger(HelloWorld.class); logger.info("Hello World"); However, I'm still encountering the error. Any advice on how to correctly implement this? Thanks

  • How does a java web project architecture look like without EJB3 ?

    - by Hendrik
A friend and I are building a fairly complex website based on java. (PHP would have been more obvious but we chose for java because the educational aspect of this project is important to us) We have already decided to use JSF (with richfaces) for the front end and JPA for the backend and so far we have decided not to use EJB3 for the business layer. The reason we've decided not to use EJB3 is because - and please correct me if I am wrong - if we use EJB3 we can only run it on a full blown java application server like jboss and if we don't use EJB3 we can still run it on a lightweight server like tomcat. We want to keep speed and cost of our future web server in mind. So far i've worked on two JEE projects and both used the full stack with web business logic factories/persistence service entities with every layer a seperate module. Now here is my question, if you dont use EJB3 in the business logic layer. What does the layer look like? Please tell what is common practice when developing java web projects without ejb3? Do you think business logic layer can be thrown out altogether and have business logic in the backing beans? If you keep the layer, do you have all business methods static? Or do you initialize each business class as needed in the backing beans in every session as needed?

  • Servlet 3.0 logout doesn't work

    - by Kevin
I've got a problem with the authentication features of Servlet 3.0: With this code in a Servlet v3: log.info(""+request.getUserPrincipal()); log.info(""+request.getAuthType()); log.info("===^==="); request.logout() ; log.info(""+request.getUserPrincipal()); log.info(""+request.getAuthType()); request.authenticate(response) ; log.info("===v==="); log.info(""+request.getUserPrincipal()); log.info(""+request.getAuthType()); I would always expect to see the Username/login windows, because of the logout() function. Instead, it seems to be a 'cache' mechanism which repopulate the credential and cancel my logout ... Admin BASIC ===^=== null null ===v=== Admin BASIC Is it a problem with my firefox, or something I'm missing in the Servlet code?

  • Can I access Spring session-scoped beans from application-scoped beans? How?

    - by Corvus
    I'm trying to make this 2-player web game application using Spring MVC. I have session-scoped beans Player and application-scoped bean GameList, which creates and stores Game instances and passes them to Players. On player creates a game and gets its ID from GameList and other player sends ID to GameList and gets Game instance. The Game instance has its players as attributes. Problem is that each player sees only himself instead of the other one. Example of what each player sees: First player (Alice) creates a game: Creator: Alice, Joiner: Empty Second player (Bob) joins the game: Creator: Bob, Joiner: Bob First player refreshes her browser Creator: Alice, Joiner: Alice What I want them to see is Creator: Alice, Joiner: Bob. Easy way to achieve this is saving information about players instead of references to players, but the game object needs to call methods on its player objects, so this is not a solution. I think it's because of aop:scoped-proxy of session-scoped Player bean. If I understand this, the Game object has reference to proxy, which refers to Player object of current session. Can Game instance save/access the other Player objects somehow? beans in dispatcher-servlet.xml: <bean id="userDao" class="authorization.UserDaoFakeImpl" /> <bean id="gameList" class="model.GameList" /> <bean name="/init/*" class="controller.InitController" > <property name="gameList" ref="gameList" /> <property name="game" ref="game" /> <property name="player" ref="player" /> </bean> <bean id="game" class="model.GameContainer" scope="session"> <aop:scoped-proxy/> </bean> <bean id="player" class="beans.Player" scope="session"> <aop:scoped-proxy/> </bean> methods in controller.InitController private GameList gameList; private GameContainer game; private Player player; public ModelAndView create(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws Exception { game.setGame(gameList.create(player)); return new ModelAndView("redirect:game"); } public ModelAndView join(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, GameId gameId) throws Exception { game.setGame(gameList.join(player, gameId.getId())); return new ModelAndView("redirect:game"); } called methods in model.gameList public Game create(Player creator) { Integer code = generateCode(); Game game = new Game(creator, code); games.put(code, game); return game; } public Game join(Player joiner, Integer code) { Game game = games.get(code); if (game!=null) { game.setJoiner(joiner); } return game; }

  • Out of Memory When Loading Java Entities

    - by Hugh Buchanan
I have a terrible problem that hopefully has a very simple answer. I am running out of memory when I perform a basic If I have code like this: MyEntity myEntity; for (Object id: someIdList) { myEntity = find(id); // do something basic with myEntity } And the find() method is a standard EntityManager related method: public MyEntity find(Object id) { return em.find(mycorp.ejb.entity.MyEntity.class, id); } This code worked a couple of weeks ago, and works fine if there are fewer items in the database. The resulting error I am facing is: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded The exception is coming from oracle toplink calling some oracle jdbc methods. The loop exists because an EJBQL such as "select object(o) from MyEntity as o" will overload the application server when there are lots of records.

  • Managing resource closure in a servlet container

    - by Steven Schlansker
I'm using Tomcat as a servlet container, and have many WARs deployed. Many of the WARs share common base classes, which are replicated in each context due to the different classloaders, etc. How can I ensure resource cleanup on context destruction, without hooking each and every web.xml file to add context listeners? Ideally, I'd like something along the lines of class MyResourceHolder implements SomeListenerInterface { private SomeResource resource; { SomeContextThingie.registerDestructionListener(this); } public void onDestroy() { resource.close(); } } I could put something in each web.xml, but since there are potentially many WARs and only ones that actually initialize the resource need to clean it up, it seems more natural to register for cleanup when the resource is initialized rather than duplicating a lot of XML configuration and then maybe cleaning up. (In this particular case, I'm initiating an orderly shutdown of a SQL connection pool. But I see this being useful in many other situations as well...) I'm sure there's some blisteringly obvious solution out there, but my Google-fu is failing me right now. Thanks!

  • How to connect remote EJB module from application client

    - by Zeck
Hi guys, I have a EJB module in remote Glassfish server and application client in my computer. I want to connect from the application client to the remote EJB. Here is the my EJB interface: @Remote public interface BookEJBRemote { public String getTitle(); } Here is the my ejb: @Stateless public class BookEJB implements BookEJBRemote { @Override public String getTitle() { return "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea"; } } I have several questions : Can I use Dependency Injection in the remote application client to connect to the ejb? If so what can i do to achieve this. Do i need to configure in the sun-ejb-jar.xml and sun-application-client.xml? In other words, if i use DI like @EJB MyEJBRemote ejb; How application client container know what ejb to be injected? Where should i specify the information? How can i run the application client? I tried to run package-appclient in the glassfish server to get appclient.jar and copy it to my computer. Then i type appclient.jar -client myAppClient.jar . It didn't work. How do i point the target server? if i cannot use DI in the client then i guess i have to use JNDI lookup. Do i need to configure jndi name in sun-ejb-jar.xml or in the sun-application-client.xml? No matter how i try i never manage to run application client ? Can you guys put some working example? And thank you for every advises and examples?

  • EJB 3 Session Bean Design for Simple CRUD

    - by sdoca
I am writing an application that's sole purpose in life is to do CRUD operations for maintaining records in database. There are relationships between some of the tables/entities. Most examples I've seen for creating session beans deals with complex business logic/operations that interact with many entities which I don't have. Since my application is so very basic, what would be the best design for the session bean(s)? I was thinking of having one session bean per entity which had CRUD the methods defined. Then I thought of combining all of those session beans into a single session bean. And then I found this blog entry which is intriguing, but I must admit I don't understand all of it (what is a ServiceFacade?). I'm leaning towards session bean/entity class, but would like to hear more experienced opinions. Thanks.

  • Problem running standalone Glassfish v3 client as Eclipse plugin

    - by dmt
Hello, I'm developing a standalone client that invokes some EJB methods on Glassfish v3. This works well until I'm integrating the client into an Eclipse plugin for running in our RCP application. In this setting there seems to be a classloader problem on initializing the naming context and I get the exception listed below. (The client has gf-client.jar and all its dependencies on its classpath.) It fails on m_ctx = new InitialContext(); with the exception java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: org.eclipse.osgi.internal.baseadaptor.DefaultClassLoader.findResources(java.lang.String) at java.lang.Class.getMethod(Class.java:1605) at com.sun.enterprise.module.single.ManifestProxy.<init>(ManifestProxy.java:34) at com.sun.enterprise.module.single.ProxyModuleDefinition.<init>(ProxyModuleDefinition.java:78) at com.sun.enterprise.module.single.ProxyModuleDefinition.<init>(ProxyModuleDefinition.java:73) at com.sun.enterprise.module.single.SingleModulesRegistry.<init>(SingleModulesRegistry.java:42) at com.sun.enterprise.module.single.SingleModulesRegistry.<init>(SingleModulesRegistry.java:30) at com.sun.enterprise.module.single.StaticModulesRegistry.<init>(StaticModulesRegistry.java:60) at org.glassfish.internal.api.Globals.getStaticHabitat(Globals.java:67) at com.sun.enterprise.naming.impl.SerialContext.<init>(SerialContext.java:183) at com.sun.enterprise.naming.impl.SerialContext.<init>(SerialContext.java:253) at com.sun.enterprise.naming.impl.SerialInitContextFactory.createInitialContext(SerialInitContextFactory.java:121) at com.sun.enterprise.naming.impl.SerialInitContextFactory.getInitialContext(SerialInitContextFactory.java:116) at javax.naming.spi.NamingManager.getInitialContext(NamingManager.java:667) at javax.naming.InitialContext.getDefaultInitCtx(InitialContext.java:288) at javax.naming.InitialContext.init(InitialContext.java:223) at javax.naming.InitialContext.<init>(InitialContext.java:175) Has anybody an idea how to solve this problem? • How to use EJB 3.1 DI in Servlet ? (Could not inject session bean by @EJB from web application)

    - by kislo_metal
I am tying to merging web application(gwt, jpa) to an separate 2 application(business login in ejb/jpa and web client in gwt). Currently i can`t inject my beans from web application (simple servlet) I am using glassfish v3. module limbo(ejb jar) is in dependency of module lust (war). If I use lust with compiler output of limbo everything work perfect (if ejb in web application and the are deploying together as one application). Have I messed some container configuration ? Here is my steps: I have some limbo.jar (ejb-jar) deployed to ejb container. I do not use any ejb-jar.xml, only annotations. package ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans; import javax.ejb.Remote; @Remote public interface IPersistentServiceRemote { ArrayList<String> getTerminalACPList(); ArrayList<String> getBoxACPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNSList(); String getProductNamebyID(int boxid); ArrayList<String> getRegionsList(String lang); long getSequence(); void persistEntity (Object ent); } package ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetChSchemaEntity; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetKeyActionsEntity; @Local public interface IPersistentService { ArrayList<String> getTerminalACPList(); ArrayList<String> getBoxACPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNSList(); String getProductNamebyID(int boxid); ArrayList<String> getRegionsList(String lang); long getSequence(); long persistPurchaseBox(EsetRegPurchaserEntity rp); void removePurchaseTempBox(EsetRegPurchaserTempEntity rpt); EsetRegionsEntity getRegionsById(long rid); void persistEntity (Object ent); } package ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetChSchemaEntity; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetKeyActionsEntity; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetRegBoxesEntity; import javax.ejb.Stateless; import javax.persistence.EntityManager; import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext; @Stateless(name = "PersistentService") public class PersistentServiceEJB implements IPersistentService, IPersistentServiceRemote{ @PersistenceContext(unitName = "Limbo") EntityManager em; public PersistentServiceEJB() { } ......... } Than i trying to use PersistentService session bean(included in limbo.jar) from web application in lust.war (the limbo.jar & lust.war is not in ear) package ua.co.lust; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans.IPersistentService; import javax.ejb.EJB; import javax.servlet.ServletException; import javax.servlet.annotation.WebServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; import java.io.IOException; @WebServlet(name = "ServletTest", urlPatterns = {"/"}) public class ServletTest extends HttpServlet { protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { service(request, response); } protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { service(request, response); } @EJB private IPersistentService pService; public void service(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { String hi = pService.getCNPList().toString(); System.out.println("testBean.hello method returned: " + hi); System.out.println("In MyServlet::init()"); System.out.println("all regions" + pService.getRegionsList("ua")); System.out.println("all regions" + pService.getBoxACPList()); } } web.xm <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd" version="3.0"> <servlet> <servlet-name>ServletTest</servlet-name> <servlet-class>ua.co.lust.ServletTest</servlet-class> </servlet> </web-app> When servelt is loading i ge 404 eror (The requested resource () is not available.) • User defined datatypes CANNOT be returned in web service in Jboss 5.0.1

  • Questions every good Java/J2EE Developer should be able to answer?

    - by Rachel
I was going through Questions every good .Net developer should be able to answer and was highly impressed with the content and approach of this question, and so in the same spirit, I am asking this question for Java/J2EE Developer. What questions do you think should a good Java/J2EE programmer be able to answer? I am marking this question as community wiki as it is not user specific and it aims to serve programming community at large. Looking forward for some amazing responses. EDIT: Please answer questions too, as suggested in the comments, so that people could learn something new regarding the language, too.

I have added some beans.xml files in correct folders in project, but im still getting this: Error occurred during deployment: Exception while loading the app : WELD-001409 Ambiguous dependencies for type [LogicBean] with qualifiers [@Default] at injection point [[field] @Inject private pl.edu.amu.wmi.kino.rk.rest.ReportRest.bean]. Possible dependencies [[Session bean [class pl.edu.amu.wmi.kino.rk.data.impl.LogicBeanImpl with qualifiers [@Any @Default]; local interfaces are [LogicBean], Session bean [class pl.edu.amu.wmi.kino.rk.data.impl.LogicBeanImpl with qualifiers [@Any @Default]; local interfaces are [LogicBean]]]. Please see server.log for more details. What am i doing wrong? I have searched the whole internet, but could not find the solution. I know it is possible because i worked on a project with such a staff. THX for any help:)

  • Netbean6.8: Cant deploy an webapp with Message Driven Bean

    - by Harry Pham
I create an Enterprise Application CustomerApp that also generated two projects CustomerApp-ejb and CustomerApp-war. In the CustomerApp-ejb, I create a SessionBean call CustomerSessionBean.java as below. package com.customerapp.ejb; import javax.ejb.Stateless; import javax.ejb.LocalBean; import javax.persistence.EntityManager; import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext; @Stateless @LocalBean public class CustomerSessionBean { @PersistenceContext(unitName = "CustomerApp-ejbPU") private EntityManager em; public void persist(Object object) { em.persist(object); } } Now I can deploy CustomerApp-war just fine. But as soon as I create a Message Driven Bean, I cant deploy CustomerApp-war anymore. When I create NotificationBean.java (message driven bean), In the project destination option, I click add, and have NotificationQueue for the Destination Name and Destination Type is Queue. Below are the code package com.customerapp.mdb; import javax.ejb.ActivationConfigProperty; import javax.ejb.MessageDriven; import javax.jms.Message; import javax.jms.MessageListener; @MessageDriven(mappedName = "jms/NotificationQueue", activationConfig = { @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "acknowledgeMode", propertyValue = "Auto-acknowledge"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue") }) public class NotificationBean implements MessageListener { public NotificationBean() { } public void onMessage(Message message) { } } If I remove the @MessageDriven annotation, then I can deploy the project. Any idea why and how to fix it?

  • What happens when several Java servlet apps running on the same port ?

    - by Frank
Something strange happened to my servlets and I think I've figured out why, yet I'm more confused. I used Netbean6.7 to develop a Paypal IPN (Instant Payment Notification) message servlet, it listens on port 8080 by default for Paypal IPN messages. I used some sample Java code from it's web site, but when it ran, only about 1 in 10 messages came through, and they looked correct, but why 1 in 10 ? Not 100% or none ? So I asked some questions here and got some advices, one in particular points me to Google's App Engine, so I downloaded it and ran the demo guestbook while my IPN servlet is still running on Netbeans, the strange thing happened, after I entered "appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2\bin\dev_appserver.cmd appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2\demos\guestbook\war" from the command prompt, I went to the following url on my browser "http://localhost:8080/", I thought I would see the Google demo guestbook page, NO, what I saw was another servlet I developed 2 years ago : "Web Academy", online course registration app. How can that happen ? I never started it, and I haven't touch that project for years. I guess because it's also listening on port 8080, so now I understand why the IPN messages only came through 1 in 10 times, because another servlet was also listening on that port and could have got the messages intended for IPN, or some how those two servlets' processes mixed up and therefore couldn't respond to Paypal properly, and failed. In order to verify some of my guesses, I turn off Netbeans, and ran the Google guestbook again at the prompt, this time on my browser http://localhost:8080/ points to the demo guestbook page. My Urls look like this : [A] Paypal IPN : http://localhost:8080/PayPal_App/PayPal_Servlet [B] Web Academy : http://localhost:8080/ So now, my questions are : <1> Why the "Web Academy" servlet was auto started when I ran the Paypal servlet ? <2> If I change the IPN listening port to 8083, would that mean I can run both of them on my PC at the same time without affecting each other ? <3> But I still don't understand, [A] and [B] look different, if a page for [A] is refreshed, it should show the Paypal content, and another page looking at [B] should show the Web Academy content, and that's exactly what happens when I started Netbeans to run the Paypal servlet, both pages show their respective content correctly side by side without interfering with each other, how come the IPN messages couldn't get through 100% of the time ? <4> In Netbeans how to assign 8080 to servlet [A] and assign port 8083 to servlet [B] ? <5> How to turn off auto start of Web Academy by Netbeans ?

  • How do I access Glassfish V3 Administration Console Website from a remote host

    - by Tom
I have installed Glassfish v3 on a standalone server running ubuntu-server 9.10. I can open the Admin website if I use a browser running on the server by browsing to: http:// localhost:4848/ I would like to access it from a remote machine by browsing to something like http:// mydomain.com:4848/ The firewall is definitely allowing traffic through on that port (4848) and I can access the application server by browsing to: http:// mydomain.com:8080/ How can I allow remote access to the administration website?

  • Correlation between JEE / J2EE to J2SE / JDK versions

    - by Ehrann Mehdan
I was certain that I'll find a duplicate question or a satisfiyng answer, but I haven't. What I'm looking for is the answer to these questions: Is there an official correlation between JEE / J2EE and J2SE / JDK versions? If the answer is yes, where is it written? If the answer is no, then why? and is there an unofficial version table (e.g. JDK 1.4 goes well with J2EE 1.3, JDK 1.5 goes well with J2EE 1.4, JDK 1.6 with JEE 5 and so on) I can think of a couple of reasons for the uncoupling, but can't seem to find a good reference source Related questions: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/196265/jse-vs-j2ee-college-and-career/196439#196439 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/106820/what-is-j2ee-jee
