  • Trimming articles' lengths in Google Reader

    - by Dov
I'm considering switching to Google Reader from Safari's RSS reader. One feature that I would absolutely miss from Safari is its Article Length slider it gives you for each feed, so you can choose to show more or less content. Is there any way to achieve this in Google Reader's Expanded view? PS I also posted this question on Google's Help forum here.

  • Why don't I have a "Web Service References" menu item in excel/VBA?

    - by Draemon
I'm trying to consume a SOAP web service from excel. Now according to This article (and confirmed by other articles and MSDN) if I do the following: Install the web services toolkit (I've installed v2.01) Install SOAP Toolkit 3.0 Add a reference to Microsoft Soap Type Library (I've tried v3.0 and an older one) I should get a "Web Service References" menu item in the Tools menu but I don't. I've also tried adding every reference that seemed to have anything to do with SOAP or XML, but it hasn't helped. Any ideas?

  • Notification of low DHCP pool in split scope setup

    - by JJBladester
In Windows Server 2008 R2, it is possible to read the Event Viewer for EventID 1020 which is an indication that the DHCP pool is running low on addresses. What if I have two DHCP servers in my domain that use an 80/20 split scope to take a /24 pool of DHCP-allocated IP addresses and split it amongst the two servers according to this Technet Article? In this case, since the scope is split, how can I tell if the total DHCP pool, which is split amongst the two DHCP servers, is beginning to run low on address space?

  • Cheat Sheets for System Administrators?

    - by splattne
I'd like to start a collection of good, free cheat sheet resources for system administrators. Please add your favorite ones. From the Wikipedia "cheat sheet" article: In more general usage, a "cheat sheet" is any short (one or two page) reference to terms, commands, or symbols where the user is expected to understand the use of such terms etc but not necessarily to have memorized all of them.

  • Is Firefox less vulnerable to exploit when running NoScript?

    - by PP
The article titled "iPhone, IE, Firefox, Safari get stomped at hacker contest" at The Register website discusses that Firefox can be exploited. I wonder if NoScript protects against the kind of exploits written about; or whether the browser can be exploited regardless of having the extension loaded. Any opinions? Might make this a community wiki given that it's not simple problem/solution post.

  • Security considerations on Importing Bulk Data by Using BULK INSERT or OPENROWSET(BULK...)

    - by Ice
I do not understand the following article profound. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175915(SQL.90).aspx "In contrast, if a SQL Server user logs on by using Windows Authentication, the user can read only those files that can be accessed by the user account, regardless of the security profile of the SQL Server process." What if i define a SQL-Agent Job to perform this bulk-Insert; Is it the OWNER of the Job who gives the security-context?

  • Sendto shortcuts not working on Vista

    - by tbischel
I'm trying to customize my sendto shortcut following instructions posted on a How-To Geek article. The problem is that any shortcut I drop into the sendto folder doesn't appear as a shortcut when I right-click-sendto. If I copy the actual application (say, Notepad) into the Sendto folder, it will appear as an option but it will not run. If I create a shortcut by copying the actual application and pasting a shortcut, it doesn't appear. Anyone run into this problem before?

  • Will this force a reinitialize in Merge Replication Topology?

    - by Refracted Paladin
I need to add a couple of columns to a table that is a part of a replication set. It is not a constraint coulumn or a part of any article filters and it allows NULL. I have a pretty good idea that I can run this -- ALTER TABLE tblPlanDomain ADD ReportWageES VARCHAR (100) NULL and NOT force all my clients to reinitialize but I was hoping for some reassurance. Can anyone verify this one way or the other for me? Thanks,

  • Why 'The' is used? [closed]

    - by akula
I'm looking for a clear answer for this English grammar question: Why do we write: The UCI Road World Championships 2012 (when the year mentioned) The Republic of India (when there is only one nation) but NOT The India? The Monaco Grand Prix (only one place which holds GP with that name) Lake Baikal in South of the Russia (why not Lake Baikal in the Russia?) I know the answer: The grammar usage is Definite Article but I'm looking for a clear explanation to this question. Thank you

  • Windows 7 - easiest way to tell whether AERO / DWM is enabled?

    - by Horst Walter
From this article I have learnt, that DWM is enabled only with AERO: Let’s recall: without Aero turned on, the DWM is deactivated, so there’s also no more 2D acceleration, either (this applies equally to Windows 7 as it does to Vista) What is the easiest way to tell whether AERO / DWM on Win 7 is enabled / disabled? With some themes it is (visually) obvious, but with some others not (especially not when using remote access like VNC). Is there some dialog where I can see that AERO / DWM is enabled / disabled?

  • How do I paste into the "crosh" terminal in a Chromebook?

    - by David Faux
I pressed Ctrl + Alt + t while having Chrome open to open a terminal in my Chromebook. How do I paste content into this terminal copied from another tab in Chrome? I have tried Ctrl + v to no avail. I have also tried highlighting text and pasting it via the middle button on my mouse, which failed too. I have also read this article (http://www.servercobra.com/nothing-but-chromebook-for-a-week/) and tried triple clicking my touch pad, but it isn't working for me.

  • What are ping packets made of?

    - by Mr. Man
What exactly are in the packets that are sent via the ping command? I was reading a Wikipedia article about magic numbers and saw this: DHCP packets use a "magic cookie" value of '63 82 53 63' at the start of the options section of the packet. This value is included in all DHCP packet types. so what else is in the packets?

  • Why VM snapshots are affecting performance?

    - by Samselvaprabu
I read in one of the VMware KB article says that snapshots will directly proportional to VM performance. But my team keep asking me how snapshots can affect performance. I would like to give them solid reason behind the statement that snapshots are performance killers. Can any one explain a little bit theory behind why actually snapshots are affecting the performance? Is it just because Disk I/O rate of hard disk would be slow?
