  • Email server can send internal, but messages never arrive at external recipients

    I'm running MailEnable on my server, and have been for many years. Recently we had an attack on our server, and I was able to close the hole. Since then, our mail server doesn't seem to be sending mail out. If I send an email from myself to another account hosted on the server, the email arrives as expected. If I send an email from my gmail account to my business account, the email also arrives as expected The problem comes when I send from my business account to an external domain I tried the following Gmail.com Hotmail.com Shaw.ca When I send to any of the above The message leaves my client as expected, The logs appear to accept and forward on the message The SMTP outbound que is empty The message never arrives I have checked our domain with mxtoolbox.com senderbase.org And neither of them are reporting any problems with our domain.   • Varnish 503 Guru Mediation errors with pfsense and healthy apache

    We are running a pfsense firewall / load balancer with varnish as service, In front of Fedora linux webservers running apache. We are getting intermittent 503 guru mediation errors. We are a bit stuck scratching our heads because it is not easily repeatable. The timeouts are set to 30s (connect and first byte) but yet the 503 page will show instantly, not after 30s. Then if you refresh immediately it may very well work instantly and sometimes for a 100 refreshes. The load average on the web servers is < 1, the DB server is < 3 (all servers (web, db, pfsense/varnish) are physical rather than VM. I would have thought if the timeouts were being hit then the 503 page would only appear after 30s am I mistaken? Also when an error happens there does not appear to be any corresponding error in apache's log files. This seems to affect pages as well as images, so it is possible to have the page load fine, and for 9/10 images on the page to be fine but 1 not work An example of the varnish debug is below.   • Empty $_POST data

    I am trying to post a post to my MyBB server from a Python script, but try as I might, I can't get it to work. The request shows up in the forensic log and the headers are in the $_SERVER variable, but $_POST is always an empty array. The error log shows nothing, even at the debug level. I've already tried searching, but I haven't found anything that's helped. I already checked the post_max_size thing, which is 8M. Another factor is that it's just my own requests which aren't going through. Browser generated requests seem to do just fine. I've looked and looked, but I can't find anything I'm doing differently that should matter. Anyway, here is an example request.     I'm trying to setup Nginx to forward requests to several backend services using proxy_pass however several pages load with 404s The links on the pages have https:// in front, but result in a http request - which ends in a 404 - I only want these services to be available through https. I've tried with varied trailing forward slashes appended to the proxypath and location in proxy.conf, I've also tried commenting out www.conf (just incase its location blocks could have caused any conflicts) to no effect. However, it is always insisting that the "cached response isn't fresh" and is never serving the cached version. I guess this has to do with the Expires header, which marks the document as expired (but I don't know whether that's the correct assumption). I've tried to overwrite and unset headers using mod_headers, but this doesn't help; whatever combination I try the cache is not impressed at all. I'm guessing that the order of operation is wrong, and headers are being rewritten after the cache sees them. early header processing doesn't help either. I've experimented with CacheQuickHandler Off and trying to set explicit filter chains, but nothing is helping. But I'm really mostly poking in the dark, as I do not have a lot of experience with configuring Apache filter chains. Is there a straight forward solution for how to cache this obnoxious piece of code?

The man page for innd doesn't specify why it rejects these messages, it just says it rejects them. So far I have found out these headers are linked to messages in RTF format (coming from Outlook clients), where normally the formatting information would be stored in a winmail.dat attachment. The clients all use MS Exchange 2010 servers to send their mail (identified above as uk-swa-ex02.aminocom.com) which forwards the message to the news server. Does anybody know what advice I need to give these users to avoid their articles getting bounced? Or can I change the behaviour of innd? Or do I need to filter these headers out before innd processes the articles?

  • configuring mod_proxy_html properly?

    I have an apache2 web server that handles reverse proxy for Rails3 app running on another machine. The setup works except URLs generated within the webapp aren't getting rewritten by my configuration for mod_proxy_html. The ["Reverse Proxy Scenario"][1] is exactly what I'm trying to do, so I've followed the tutorial as completely as I know how. I've applied or tried answers supplied here on stackoverflow, to no effect. According to the "Reverse Proxy Scenario" you want a number of modules loaded. All those instructions are in my httpd.conf file and when I examine the output from apactectl -t -D DUMP_MODULES all the expected modules show in amongst the listing. My external web server doing the reverse proxy is at www.ourdomain.org and the Rails app is internally available at apphost.local (the server is Mac OS X Server 10.6, the rails app server is Mac OS X 10.6). What's working right now is access to the webapp via the reverse proxy as: http://www.ourdomain.org/apphost/railsappname/controllername/action But none of the javascript files, css files or other assets get loaded, and links internal to the web app come out missing the apphost portion of the URL, as if my rewrite rule is configured incorrectly (so of course I've focused on that and can't seem to get anything to be added or deleted in the process of passing the html in from the apphost and out through the Apache server). But then nothing that I try seems to alter the URLs I see in my browser after hitting the Apache server with a request for my web app. Even if you can't tell what I've done incorrectly, I'd welcome ideas on how to get Apache to help see what it's working on and doing to the html coming from my web app. That's what I understood the ProxyHTMLLogVerbose On and LogLevel Debug to be setting up, but I'm not seeing anything in the log files.

I have managed making it work for Yahoo Mail and Hotmail, sadly GMail is still marking our mails as spam.     My company uses an internal management software for storing products. They want to transpose all the products in a MySql database so they can do available their products on the company website. Notice: they will continue to use their own internal software. This software can exports all the products in various file format (including XML). The syncronization not have to be in real time, they are satisfied to syncronize the MySql database once a day (late night). Also, each product in their software has one or more images, then I have to do available also the images on the website.   • If Nvidia Shield can stream a game via wifi, why can I not do the same via ethernet to any other PC?

    I think it absurd that a wireless game streaming solution is the *first to hit the market when a 1000mbps+ Ethernet connection would accomplish the same feat with roughly 6x the available bandwidth. I can only assume that there must be some reason behind this or a limitation preventing this, but what? 150mbps wifi is in no way superior to a 1000mbps LAN connection aside from well wireless mobility. Not only that but I have a secondary laptop and desktop which should by hardware comparison completely outperform anything the Tegra in the Nvidia Shield can do. Is this all just a marketing scheme to force people to buy the shield for the streaming benefit? Chief among these is that NVIDIA’s Shield handheld game console will be getting a microconsole-like mode, dubbed “Shield Console Mode”, that will allow the handheld to be converted into a more traditional TV-connected console. In console mode Shield can be controlled with a Bluetooth controller, and in accordance with the higher resolution of TVs will accept 1080p game streaming from a suitably equipped PC, versus 720p in handheld mode. With that said 1080p streaming will require additional bandwidth, and while 720p can be done over WiFi NVIDIA will be requiring a hardline GigE connection for 1080p streaming (note that Shield doesn’t have Ethernet, so this is presumably being done over USB). Streaming aside, in console mode Shield will also support its traditional local gaming/application functionality. - http://www.anandtech.com/show/7435/nvidia-consolidates-game-streaming-tech-under-gamestream-brand-announces-shield-console-mode ^ This is not acceptable for me for a number of reasons not to mention the ridiculousness of having a little screen+controller unit sitting there while using a secondary controller and screen instead. They need a second product for this solution without the screen or controller for it to make sense... at which point your just buying a little computer that does what most other larger computers do better. All that is required, by my understanding, is the ability to decode H.264 video compression and transmit control/feedback so by any logical comparison, one (Nvidia especially) should have no difficulty in creating an application for PC's (win32/64 environment) that does the exact same thing their android app does. I have 2 video cards capable of streaming (encoding) H.264 so by right they must be capable of decoding it I would think. I haven't found anything stating plans to allow non-shield owners to do this. Can a third party create this software or does it hinge on some limitation that only Nvidia can overcome? (*) - perhaps this isn't the first but afaik it is the first complete package.

  • SmtpClient and Locked File Attachments

    Got a note a couple of days ago from a client using one of my generic routines that wraps SmtpClient. Apparently whenever a file has been attached to a message and emailed with SmtpClient the file remains locked after the message has been sent. Oddly this particular issue hasn’t cropped up before for me although these routines are in use in a number of applications I’ve built. The wrapper I use was built mainly to backfit an old pre-.NET 2.0 email client I built using Sockets to avoid the CDO nightmares of the .NET 1.x mail client. The current class retained the same class interface but now internally uses SmtpClient which holds a flat property interface that makes it less verbose to send off email messages. File attachments in this interface are handled by providing a comma delimited list for files in an Attachments string property which is then collected along with the other flat property settings and eventually passed on to SmtpClient in the form of a MailMessage structure. Specifically notice that attachment filenames are converted from a comma-delimited string to filenames from which new attachments are created. The code as it’s written however, will cause the problem with file attachments not being released properly. Internally .NET opens up stream handles and reads the files from disk to dump them into the email send stream. The attachments are always sent correctly but the local files are not immediately closed. As you probably guessed the issue is simply that some resources are not automatcially disposed when sending is complete and sure enough the following code change fixes the problem: // Create and configure the message using (MailMessage msg = this.GetMessage()) { smtp.Send(msg); if (this.SendComplete != null) this.OnSendComplete(this); // or use an explicit msg.Dispose() here } The Message object requires an explicit call to Dispose() (or a using() block as I have here) to force the attachment files to get closed. I think this is rather odd behavior for this scenario however. The code I use passes in filenames and my expectation of an API that accepts file names is that it uses the files by opening and streaming them and then closing them when done. Why keep the streams open and require an explicit .Dispose() by the calling code which is bound to lead to unexpected behavior just as my customer ran into? Any API level code should clean up as much as possible and this is clearly not happening here resulting in unexpected behavior. Apparently lots of other folks have run into this before as I found based on a few Twitter comments on this topic. Odd to me too is that SmtpClient() doesn’t implement IDisposable – it’s only the MailMessage (and Attachments) that implement it and require it to clean up for left over resources like open file handles. This means that you couldn’t even use a using() statement around the SmtpClient code to resolve this – instead you’d have to wrap it around the message object which again is rather unexpected. Well, chalk that one up to another small unexpected behavior that wasted a half an hour of my time – hopefully this post will help someone avoid this same half an hour of hunting and searching. There is no ejb-jar.xml in any ejb files, because I'm using EJB 3.1. So I think ejb-jar.xml descriptors are optional. I this right? But the problem is, the already mentioned error: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to load EJB module. DeploymentContext does not contain any EJB Check archive to ensure correct packaging Can anybody help?

    I just tried IntelliJ-Idea 11.x and 12.x (EPA), but when I use Groovy 2.0.1 or 2.0.5, the code can't be run and there are some errors out there. The Groovy plugin of idea has little information about which version of Groovy has been supported. Does idea support Groovy 2.x? I want to try the new @TypeChecked annotation of Groovy 2.
