  • Store ESX5 images on a NAS?

    I have a basic NAS device (Buffallo LinkStation Duo) that can only present SMB fileshares to the network. For testing annd for getting a dying physical machine working I would like to store my VMDK on here. Is that possible, or will I have to find some way of presenting this as an iSCSI target of some sort? I've only used iSCSI or local storage in the past, but this isn't possible at the moment.   • FFMPEG, FLAC. How do i encode with highest compression?

    With FFMPEG how do i encode a lossless codec (ATM i am testing with another flac) to a flac file with the highest compression level. With MediaMonkey i was able to compress to level 8 and i recompressed with ffmpeg and it matched the output of a level 6 compress. Even with -aq 8. How do i set it to the highest compression?

    Possible Duplicate: How do you do Load Testing and Capacity Planning for Web Sites I've seen tutorials saying they can run decent websites on 64MB RAM (Debian/Lighttpd/PHP/MySQL) however it's not clearly defined how much hits/traffic a "decent" site gets. Is there a rule of thumb on how much RAM a web server needs? To keep things simple, let's say you're running a site with static content and it's averaging at 100,000 hits per hour (HTML + images combined, no MySQL). How much RAM is the minimum requirement for that?

I can try looking up the specs of various drives, but vendors have been known to exaggerate, or use numbers that are on accurate in tests that do not reflect actual usage.     I would like to setup Windows Server 2008 R2 using RemoteFX at home, for a couple of users to all use the server (instead of buying each user a seperate computer). I have been trying to find what processors (Intel based) that support the SLAT that is apparently needed to run RemoteFX. I currently have a computer that has an i3 processor, but after testing it shows that it will not support it. Does anyone know which processors from Intel do support this?

There are several rewrites we need, some will have multiple parameters but I cant even get this simple 1 parameter current url to alter at all to the desired.     Im installing Debian testing version wheezy on my Asus X53Sc with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 100. Im having a problem with my wifi connection. When I try to connect to internet with the wireless connection, an error occurs: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8105e-1.fw for module r8169. I installed successfully the iwlwifi-100-5.ucode, but now I have this error. Any ideas or suggestions to resolve the problem ?

    I would like to rewrite requests to http://www.mysite.com/foo to http://foo.mysite.com without the user's address bar changing. Using IIRF I can do the rewrite, but only if I use the [R] modifier flag which makes the rewrite a redirect. Is there a way for me to transparently rewrite requests to a subdomain?     I would like to use a vm ubuntu installation as my testing environment, but to ease workflow, I have symlinked /var/www to a windows share. Everything looks good when browsing files and the owner and group both are showing up as www-data, but I can not seem to get apache to respond with anything other than permission denied. Obviously there are still some permission issues between Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I don't know where to go

    This application is stored locally from our company image we are testing, but our users are using roaming profiles and each time they log in to a different computer or the main computer they work on iTunes keeps asking them to accept the licensing agreement. Is there anyway to keep this agreement from coming up since they are not storing this information in their profile or on the computer locally? All the computers are on Windows 7 and we run a Server 2008 R2 Domain.

    This came up in relation to this question on determining chunk size of an existing RAID array. The general consensus seems to be that chunk size does not apply to RAID1 as it is not striped. On the other hand, the Linux RAID Wiki claims that it will have an affect on read performance. However, I cannot find any benchmarks testing/proving that. Can anyone point to conclusive documentation that it either does or does not affect read performance?

    I've installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 in a new server and set up the 4 hard drives with 3 RAID 1 devices, the configuration is such that the first two drives have md0 (swap space) and md1 (/) with the third and fourth drives having md2 (/var). I've been testing the operation under a drive failure and found that the system boots fine if I remove disk two but if I remove disk one then the system gets to grub and then just restarts. I'm confused as to why grub appears to be loading properly from disk two but then the boot fails.

I used one of the addresses and I tried testing the proxy at http://ipv6-test.com/ but it detected that is using the first ipv6 adddress instead of the certain ipv6 address that I provided. Example I used 2607:f358:0001:fed5:0022:772f:6ed3:7f3c as my proxy but it detected as 2607:f358:0001:fed5:0022:0000:db61:85e1 . Why is it doing that? The proxy server I am using is polipo

  • Gzip not working in browser

    According to whatsmyip.org none of my browsers (Firefox, Chrome etc) on W7 are gzip enabled, it's saying 'NO, your browser is not requesting compressed content' which agrees with Chrome developer tools as I was testing a site and it was complaining that the page and css etc weren't compressed. I've searched for an answer but cannot find anything for this. I've tested from another pc connected to the router and that works fine, something on this pc is broke.... Any help tia

    Does anyone know where to find various arguments for msi's, such as installing/running as administrator, or restart after installation. I am trying to push out an msi update through group policy, but after testing the msi I found out that it needs to be run as administrator to install, and that for it to begin working fully the computer needs to be rebooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
