  • Pattern for iPhone background loading during init?

    Hi everyone, I'm currently kicking off a background thread to do some REST queries in my app delegate's didFinishLaunchingWithOptions. This thread creates some objects and populates the model as the rest of the app continues to load (because I don't block, and didFinishLaunchingWithOptions returns YES). I also put up a loading UIViewController 'on top' of the main view that I tear down after the background initialization is complete. My problem is that I need to notify the first view (call it the Home view) that the model is ready, and that it should populate itself. The trick is that the background download could have finished before Home.viewDidAppear is called, or any of the other Home.initX methods. I'm having difficulty synchronizing all of this and I've thought about it long enough that it feels like I'm barking up the wrong tree. Are there any patterns here for this sort of thing? I'm sure other apps start by performing lengthy operations with loading screens :) Thanks!

  • jQuery: How to collect values from sliders into simple object with id as keys

    I have several jQuery UI Sliders and I want to collect their values. Thought it would be a simple task, but when I was going to do it I got stuck and not quite sure what to do anymore :p The object I would like to end up with should look something like this: { a: 80, b: 90, c: 20, ... } I can do it manually like this: var values = { a: $('#a').slider('value'), b: $('#b').slider('value'), c: $('#c').slider('value'), ... }; But that's a bit tedious, especially if I need to add or remove or rename. Was hoping I could do something with the map or each function or something like that, but I can't figure it out. Anyone have some clever ideas?

  • Cannot access NSDictionary

    I created a JSON using a PHP script. I am reading the JSON and can see that the data has been correctly read. However, when it comes to access the objects I get unrecognized selector sent to instance... Cannot seem to find why that is after too many hours !!!! Any help would be great !   • Custom business object comparer

    Hello, I need to implement mechanism that compares two business objects and return the list of differences (past value, new value, isDifferenceBetter). Because not all fields of class has to be compared and one fields need to be compared with different function then the other (sometimes < is better sometimes is better ... ) I figured out that I need to implelemnt custom attribute and give it to each field that has to be compared in this object. This attribute must have: - name - delegate or sth to point to the function which would be applied for comparision (dont know how to do it so far) So could anyone suggest me if its a good idea? Maybe any other ideas. Using attributes I would be able to use refflection to iterate through each field with attribute and invoke needed delegate. thanks for help bye

  • inspect the parameters to "use", and pass on the rest?

    I have a Perl module and I'd like to be able to pick out the parameters that my my module's user passed in the "use" call. Whichever ones I don't recognize I'd like to pass on. I tried to do this by overriding the "import" method but I'm not having much luck. EDIT: To clarify, as it is, I can use my module like this: use MyModule qw/foo bar/; which will import the foo and bar methods of MyModule. But I want to be able to say: use MyModule qw/foo doSpecialStuff bar/; and look for doSpecialStuff to check if I need to do some special stuff at the beginning of the program, then pass qw/foo bar/ to the Exporter's import

  • Storing Object Types in Variable then Initializing

    Is there a way in Objective-C to store an object/class in a variable to be passed to alloc/init somewhere else? For example: UIViewController = foo foo *bar = [[foo alloc] init] I'm trying to create a system to dynamically create navigation buttons in a separate class based on the current view controller. I can pass 'self' to the method, but the variable that results does not allow me to alloc/init. I could always import the .h file directly, but ideally I would like to make reusing the code as simple as possible. Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way?

  • JavaScript using toString on a Function object to read text content

    Calling toString() on the function below returns different strings across browsers. I understand this is because ECMA-262 15.3.4.2 leaves wiggle room for each vendor. Chrome returns the comments in addition to all syntax. Sadly Firefox 3.6 omits the comments. Based on Firefox's behavior I haven't tested IE, Opera, or Safari. function foo() { /* comment */ var bar = true; } Specifically, I am attempting to embed meta data within a specially formatted comment block within a function. Later the return value of the functions toString() method would be parsed and values returned as an object. I've been unable to locate compatibility tables or alternatives to toString(). Does the community have any ideas? Btw, pre-processing JS files isn't an option. :( Thanks a lot. :)

I would need to access, perform operations on and update the properties. The a,b,c properties will be quite large arrays and the DoSomething() method would be called many times during the execuction of the script. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated :)

This is the RS class: class RS { private $username; private $password; function __construct($dbObj) { // We need to get an account from the db $dbObj->connect(); } } As you can probably see, I need to access and use the database class in my RS class. But I get this error when I load the page: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in C:\xampp\htdocs\includes\database.class.php on line 22 The thing is I have NO idea where it got the idea that it needs to use ODBC as a user... I've read up on doing this stuff and from what I can gather I am doing it correctly. Could anyone lend me a hand? Thank you.

    I have a table DEAL and a table DEAL_TYPE. I would like to map this code: public class Deal { DealType type; } public enum DealType { BASE("Base"), EXTRA("Extra"); } The problem is that the data already exist in the database. And I'm having a hard time mapping the classes to the database. The database looks something like that: TABLE DEAL { Long id; Long typeId; } TABLE DEAL_TYPE { Long id; String text; } I know I could use a simple @OneToMany relationship from deal to deal type, but I would prefer to use an enum. Is this possible? I almost got it working by using a EnumType.ORDINAL type. But unfortunately, my IDs in my deal type table are not sequential, and do not start at 1. Any suggestions?

After looking at a couple of places I know about the sizeof call, and when I make it I get 32 bits (which is the size of the NSMutableArray object it self).     How do I keep a count of the number of times that objects of a specific class (type?) are getting disposed in the lifetime of my application. Imagine I have a class A, now, I want to count how many times the objects of A get collected by the GC. I hope I am phrasing this right because I was asked this in an interview today and the answer I gave did not satisfy the interviewer. And this is what I imagine he was trying to ask. What I said was that one could keep a static field called count in the class A and increment it in the Finalize() call of that object. The answer he was expecting was something called a static block. I've never heard of this in .NET/C#. Can someone explain what's this static block?

The relations must be unique, it's not possible to have a duplicate. To check if an instance of B is already connected to a given instance of A, we could perform an easy INNER JOIN but this will only ensure the already persisted relations. What about the current transient relations? class A { @OneToMany private List<B> listOfB; } If we access the listOfB and perform a check of contains() this will fetch all the connected instances of B lazy from the datasource. I only want to validate them by their primary-key. Is there an easy solution where I can do things like "Does this instance of A is connected with this instance of B?" Without loading all these data into memory and perform a based on collections?

    I have a bunch of buttons named: button1 button2 button3 etc. Is there a way to basically do this? pseudocode for(int i = 1, i < 15, i++) { button{i}.selected = YES; } This also goes for method calls, etc. I've often thought such a way of calling methods would be very convenient, but I don't think I've ever seen it done when using compiled languages. But I have done it using PHP. Is there any way to do this in Objective-C? (That's where my problem is now, but I'd also be interested in if you can do this in other languages.) Alternately, is there a reason why this is NOT a good way to go about accessing all the UI elements? Thanks!
