  • Can I increase Windows 7 start menu vertical size to let mire items fit in it?

    I hate putting shortcuts/files on desktop as well as crawling through "All Programs" menu any frequently (and I only pin some essential every-day applications to the task bar). So, I put all the programs I occasionally use to the start menu itself (above the automatic recently used programs section). But even though I've switched it to use small icons, I run out of vertical space in it (just about 16 shortcuts fit there at maximum).

  • Nokia PC Suite hangs at installing required drivers and doesn't connect to phone

    I am unable to connect my Nokia 2690 to my PC via data cable using Nokia PC Suite under Windows XP SP3 Pro 32 bit. Every time I connect my mobile using the data cable, the Nokia App shows a window where it says it's "Installing the required drivers. Please wait". But even after several hours my phone never conects to my PC and the screen remains there idle. I checked in he task manager, Nokia PC Suite didn't go unresponsive.

  • CPU running at full capacity when boot to DOS?

    Does the CPU is run at 100% or near full capacity when the computer is booted into MS-DOS? Will the CPU temperature become higher even though we are not running any program in DOS mode? In Windows, we can see the CPU usage in % of utilization in Task Manager. From what I heard, CPU is running at near 100% capacity in DOS OS or in the BIOS MAIN screen. Is this caused by lack of CPU optimization in DOS OS?

  • Program for Synchronizing folders across multiple computers automatically

    I work in a company of about 20 people, I need to share some files with all of them in a folder(s) (files are constantly changed by me).., so they need to get the latest changed file automatically (pushed to their computer) What's the best program/system for this task? I need to be able to administrate their read/write access to the folder on a user level. Windows Live Mesh seemed to be perfect for me, but unfortunatly there's a limit of only 9 people in that system.

  • Why obfuscating a serial number of a device? What is the risk?

    In one of my xx.stackexchange questions I've got an answer, in which the user has obfuscated his disk's SN (serial number). Recently I have seen this in several photos as well, the SN was blurred out. I' am just curious, because I have never paid attention to this. What could be the potential risk in publishing a device's SN? I do see some sense when it comes to a MAC address, OK, this could be used for tracking. But a SN of a disk, iPad, whatsoever? Maybe there is an important reason for not publishing it, which I haven't seen so far.

    Hello How can I convert a file with a lot hex numbers into the decimal? Example: file1 0x59999 0x5acdc 0xffeff I want to start $ cat file1 | util | cat file2 and get file2 with smth like 1021489 1249230 3458080 (numbers in example output are random, as I cant convert so long hex to dec) Upd: perl : perl -pe '$_=hex;$_.="\n"'. Can anybody do it better? The real task is a sorting of hex numbers.

  • Latest XP Drivers for Intel Integrated Graphics

    On the Intel site I'm struggling to find what the latest driver version is for certain chipsets. From a system info tool I have several PCs (laptops) with the following reported graphics: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Intel(R) Q35 Express Chipset Family Intel(R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset All use the same driver igxprd32.dll at version 6.14.0010.4xxx (last 3 digits vary). All PCs are XP 32 bit. I am not certain but I think these are all using the same basic chipset. More than likely the drivers were never updated so I wondered what version might be relevant. Any help on tracking down the latest driver version (I just need the number, so I can see how out of date they are) and figuring out which chips these cards are would be great.

  • Nginx Tornado Combination Causing 502 Bad Gateway Errors

    We are facing a problem with inconsistent 502 errors and tracking down the reasons has been a very frustrating exercise. We can reproduce the problem by sending several simultaneous requests quickly. The problem is that several is only in the range of 10 to 20 within a 5 seconds (not a typo). So clearly this type of load should be handled easily. We really like the Nginx + Tornado approach but are considering going to a more traditional (e.g. threading) approach because this problem has been very difficult to solve. I was wondering if you a) know how to fix this issue and b) how we can tracked down the culprit(s). The log files simply identify there being a connection refused. We have the same problem as this post: How do I debug a HTTP 502 error? But there is no answer provided on how to solve the problem so I'm hoping you can help because this may be a common issue with this type of setup. Thanks in advance, Paul

    I am trying to tune a SQL Server. Per Brent Ozar's Performance Tuning Video, he says the PerfMon's Paging File:%Usage should be zero or ridiculously close to it. The average metric on my box is around 1.341% The box has 18 GB of RAM, the SQL Server is off, the Commit Charge Total is 1GB and yet the PerfMon metric is not 0. The Performance of the Task Manager states that PF Usage is 1.23GB. What should I do to better tune the box?

    Following : Installing Team Foundation Server on a shared database instance We did use a shared database instance setup for TFS 2005, and that was not a good idea, because of the Reporting Service dependency. The reporting instance on the server gives error code 404. What works now Basic source code control. We're able to check in and out source code. What doesn't work : Everything else, including : Opening and creating new team projects. Build automation. Internal bug tracking. Goal setup Having a fully working TFS install, and keeping the history. 1) A full install of TFS 2005 on the same server, but within its own database and reporting instance. 2) Using another server might be an option, but it's really not prefered Downtime should be minimum, my colleagues needs to be able to work on the source Readings I've read the MSDN page about moving/restoring TFS 2005, but I'm still unsure about what to do.     I have 16gb of ram installed in my computer, and nearly 70% of it is used at all times. Looking at the processes in task manager the memory being used with everything in there doesn't even add up to 2gb. I have RAPID mode enabled on my ssd which may be using 2gb at most so I would understand that.   • Packets marked INVALID in FORWARD rule

    I have a firewall that has 3 IP aliases on 1 physical interface. Packets get dropped between these 3 interfaces (either ICMP, HTTP, or anything else). We tracked it down to these packets being marked INVALID in the FORWARD rule and dropped due to the this rule: chain FORWARD { policy DROP; # connection tracking mod state state INVALID LOG log-prefix 'INVALID FORWARD DROP: '; mod state state INVALID DROP; mod state state (ESTABLISHED RELATED) ACCEPT; } (That is, we see the INVALID FORWARD DROP logs in dmesg) What could be causing this?

This would create a better listening experience when listening to the file on my portable mp3 player.     I am having extremely long formulas over an extremely big sheet. At the moment I am tracking the formulas with the Formula Auditing Tool. However, my idea would be to just replace for example in a formula like this: =IF(AND(ROUND($GX19-SUM(0)/$M$12;2)<=0;$AK$7=1);0;$M$12*$M$22/$K$62 My idea would be to replace the excel cell names with the table row names they are in. Like: =IF(AND(ROUND( "Income" -SUM(0)/ "Debt" ;2)<=0; "Percentage" =1);0; "Investment" * "Debt of house" / "Investment costs" Is there any way to achive sth. like that in excel? I appreciate your inputs!!!

I use Task Scheduler "c:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"/callto:+XXXXXXXXXX,,,125 the dialer is supposed to dial the XX number and wait a few seconds (the ",") then dial the 125 access code.     I have antivirus service (Kaspersky) that occasionally becomes unresponsive to the normal stop/stop gui interface provided by said vendor. I would like to find a way to kill the service for a restart without rebooting, however all attempts I have tried result in failure with an 'Access is Denied' error. These include: Services Control Panel (grayed out stop button) Task Manager Killing Process Explorer Killing command line net and sc stopping runas with domain admin using net stop Some details include: Machine: Windows Vista Service Type: 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS Service State: 4 Running (NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN)
