• How to rename or relabel a Network Drive label

  I am mounting a network drive to windows using WNetAddConnection2 which is working fine but while mounting the drive by default it assigns the name as Server IP and FolderName , NDSTestFolder on 'NAS server (172.24.17.116)'(R:) I need to rename the drive label using SetVolumeLabel but this fails for the network drive saying invalid parameter while SetVolumeLabel works fine for the local drives. Is there a way I can rename or relabel a network drive? So that I can change NDSTestFolder on 'NAS server (172.24.17.116)'(R:) to NDS@MyFolder (R:)

• How best to embed multiple Flash Player instances using swfobject via a usercontrol?

  I have a ListView on a Page within a MasterPage and some very ugly ugly autogenerated IDs. Such as..."ctl00_workbenchPlaceHolder_ListView1_ctrl1_LibItem2One" Using swfobject.embedSWF(...) requires me to hand over the id of a div on my page that can be replaced with object/embed markup depending on the browser context. My aim is to show the user a collection of video's they have uploaded to their website so they can review them and change some related data if desired. Hence the ListView which is populated via a SQLDataSource which currently provides a number of URLs pointing to .flv files. But it ain't gonna work if I put a <div id="replaceme"></div>' in my user control because I may then have more than one id="replaceme" and poor swfobject won't like it. So my evil solution is to put an <asp:Literal> in my usercontrol and build the script, function name and div tag id as a string. • Flash CS5 screwed up all my textfields - how can I correct this?

  Hi - I have an Actionscript project that I was building using Flash CS4. I embedded a font using the follow: [Embed(source="/bin/assets/fonts/MyriadPro-Regular.otf", fontWeight="normal", fontFamily="Myriad Pro")] Then throughout my application in my TextFields I would set embedFonts to true antialiastype to advanced and set the thickness property of the text field. And setting the font-family from a stylesheet. This was all working exactly as I expected it would with no issues whatsoever and months of development. I just upgraded to CS5 and published and none of my text is rendered at all. I was able to resolve this by removing the embedFonts = true from the textfields, but this leaves me with no control over the thickness at all. I searched everywhere, does anyone know what the proper way to do this in CS5 is now? I've tried embedding my font directly within the CS5 IDE but still no thickness control. Thanks in advance for any help - I've got tons of textfields throughout my app that are all ganked right now. Thanks Adobe. b

  My apologies if this has been fully addressed before, but I've read through several other threads and still can't seem to get my file to work. My actionscript code is at the bottom of this message. • How can I stop a movie (from current frame) playing when I click on next frame - FLASH CS4?

  I have four movie clips (.f4v) in 4 frames in a movie with watch buttons.. This movie has them been imported into a main movie container that has next and previous buttons. However if i play a movie then hit next frame, the movie continues to play in the background. How can I shop this? The code below shows one of the actionscripts for a movie clip and then the main actionscript in the main movie. I am a flash newbie, so all help appreciated. • Flash CS 4 / AS 2 + Dynamic Text + Html + Embedded fonts...

  I have this scenario: 1) I have a dynamic text that receives its data from a XML. 2) The texts showed get theirs style from a CSS file. 3) My dynamic text has a html 'span' tag and it's formatted according to the CSS class that it's passed via the XML file. Ok... so far so good. It's something like: _root.txt.txtDica = "<span class='"+ node.childNodes[_global.auxCont].attributes.myStyle +"'>" + node.childNodes[_global.auxCont].attributes.myText+ "</span>"; The problem is that the swf has a poor quality text. So, I've been looking around, found some things about embedded fonts, Flash TextField() and etc. But, nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how can I generate this html tag in a dynamic text with a good quality? It's worth to say that I'm using regular fonts, such as Verdana and Arial. Thanks a lot!

• What is the best way to remove flickering from a fast series of image loads in Flash?

  Hi, working on making a flash program that loads about 1000 jpegs and then plays them like a movie. Have all the buttons and stuff working but the time it takes for an image to load is so high that the movie can't be played at 30 fps. I've tried multiple ways of fixing this using 1 scrollpane and changing its source ever 30 ms. This one is the worst but simplest. Flickers cause strobing and it is unwatchable. used 2 scrollpanes that were duplicates of each other until I had to load. I would then make that one invisible, load it , then make it visible. Then load the background one. Works but same problem as the first at high speeds, just less severe. used 1 scrollpane per image . This works great, except that it fails miserably on any more than 100 of them due to the number of objects. Has anyone else experienced/solved/wants to help me solve this? None of my fixes have worked. Currently using action script 3, but will change if its not possible in that. Also, I want to be able to zoom in and then scroll around the window hence the scrollpanes, but if that's not possible its a sacrifice I'm willing to make

• Drawing line graphics leads Flash to spiral out of control!

  Hi, I'm having problems with some AS3 code that simply draws on a Sprite's Graphics object. The drawing happens as part of a larger procedure called on every ENTER_FRAME event of the stage. Flash neither crashes nor returns an error. Instead, it starts running at 100% CPU and grabs all the memory that it can, until I kill the process manually or my computer buckles under the pressure when it gets up to around 2-3 GB. This will happen at a random time, and without any noticiple slowdown beforehand. WTF? Has anyone seen anything like this? PS: I used to do the drawing within a MOUSE_MOVE event handler, which brought this problem on even faster. PPS: I'm developing on Linux, but reproduced the same problem on Windows. • Deleted array value still showing up on foreach loop in AS3 (bug in flash?)

  It took me many hours to narrow down a problem in some code to this reproducible error, which seems to me like a bug in AVM2. Can anyone shed light on why this is occurring or how to fix it? When the value at index 1 is deleted and a value is subsequently set at index 0, the non-existent (undefined) value at index 1 will now show up in a foreach loop. I have only been able to produce this outcome with index 1 and 0 (not any other n and n-1). • Flash video plays well, but time and time-remaining are out of sync.

  Hey guys, Could be a known issue, an issue with my code or an oversight on my part. I have created a video player in flash. I have got it playing progressive and streaming over rtmp/rtmpt so that is all fine. My only issue is that when the video's are playing, the time-codes for time played and time remaining are not synced. So, if my video is 20 secs long and 5 have been played, time played will be 5secs, time remaining will be 16secs until it updates about half a second later. So even though they are both being set with the same line of code, there are not changing at the same time. The time played changes, then a split second later the time remaining changes. Anyone got any idea what this could be. Maybe a miscalculation on my part. Maybe I need to round up or down the remaining time. How can I sync the two times. I understand this is probably an tough question to answer, I have done my best to explain it. Thanks in advance.

• Any danger in calling flash messages html_safe?

  I want a flash message that looks something like: "That confirmation link is invalid or expired. Click here to have a new one generated." Where "click here" is of course a link to another action in the app where a new confirmation link can be generated. Two drawbacks: One, since link_to isn't defined in the controller where the flash message is being set, I have to put the link html in myself. No big deal, but kind of messy. Number two: In order for the link to actually display properly on the page I have to html_safe the flash display function in the view, so now it looks like (using Haml): - flash.each do |name, message| = content_tag :div, message.html_safe This gives me pause. Everything else I html_safe has been HTML I've written myself in helpers and whatnot, but the contents of the flash hash are stored in a cookie client-side, and could conceivably be changed. I've thought through it, and I don't see how this could result in an XSS attack, but XSS isn't something I have a great understanding of anyway. So, two questions: 1. Is there any danger in always html_safe-ing all flash contents like this? 2. The fact that this solution is so messy (breaking MVC by using HTML in the controller, always html_safe-ing all flash contents) make me think I'm going about this wrong. Is there a more elegant, Rails-ish way to do this? I'm using Rails 3.0.0.beta3.

• Why does my ReadyNas 4200 have a constant beep post disk failure

  Went to check on a high pitched constant beep coming from the server room and discovered that all the LED lights on the disks were black except one which had a constant green. Post a Re-boot nothing changed. Console indicated that that particular drive has failed. Pulled the drive out and BAM everything is fine. Except, the high pitched beep remains. Plan is currently to replace the drive with a new same size drive we happen to have purchased for expansion. My question is, what will this do? Will the NAS accept the new drive as a replacement for the failed one and decide to shut-up?   I reformatted my Win "C" drive and loaded Ubuntu 11.04. The second internal HD of course is not read. It is shown in 'disk utility'. I try to mount it in disk utility but I get an error message error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on / One problem I see is the error relates to sda1, but I am trying to mount sdb.   I am one of the Recruiters for Oracle and work in our India Recruitment Team. When we are hiring for multiple positions we often hold Recruitment Events to interview a large number of people as effectively as possible. These Events are often held on the weekend as many people are not free to attend an all day event during the working week. Just recently during a recruitment campaign we were running I was tasked to set up a Recruitment Event for some roles we were hiring for. I have set up and run weekend recruitment events in the past which have all run smoothly. However, this time arranging this recruitment event was quite a challenge for me. The planned event was taking place on a Saturday. I had almost sent out the confirmed scheduled list of candidates to the respective hiring team on Friday and was on track for the event to take place, but unfortunately there was breaking news in the media that there was a strike called in the city because of some political agitations and protests taking place on the event day. The hiring manager had rushed to me asking for my thoughts and ideas. I was in two minds on what to do. One on hand I was not ready to cancel the event because of all the work that so many people had put into getting this prepared and also I did not want to reschedule the event at the last minute if I did not need to. On the other hand I understood it may be best to reschedule the event as people may not be able to attend based on the political protests taking place on the day. In the end I decided to gather and check for other options because this might cause confusion and a problem for the scheduled candidates to drive in to the venue. So we had concluded to reschedule our event plans and moved the event to the next week. The good news is that we successfully executed this recruitment drive the following Saturday. We were glad that 100% of the candidates we able to make it to the new interview date and despite all the agitations in the city we were successful in hiring people for all the roles we had open. Things do not always go as planned. The best laid plans can sometimes be for nought based on external factors outside of our control. What this experience has taught me is that rather than focus on the negatives when you are thrown a curveball the best approach is to stay flexible and focus on finding ways to reach your outcome. Your plans may need to change but you can still achieve the results you are after if you have the right mind set.

The only thing is that I don't get some features that I came to enjoy in windows. I need help setting these up: Hard-drive protection - active protection software that pauses drive when there is movement My printer doesn't work (can't find the driver for this one): canon Ip2600 A way to change which graphics chip to use while in OS. I have both the integrated and non integrated (dual-graphics). (If not easy to setup, I know there's a way to do it before it boots, but don't know how). CPU performance level - in windows you can pick "high performance", "power saver", etc.. to save batteries. My integrated camera w/light - it works but need an app where I can record videos, take snapshots, etc. can't find one that works. Thanks!

• Recover an HP recovery partition

  I have a (semi)-dead hard drive with an HP recovery partition on it. My goal is to Buy a new hard drive Copy the recovery partition to a drive ( dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=~/recovery.bak ) Make a new partition of 12000 mb with Windows 7 Copy back recovery partition to the new drive ( dd if=~/recovery.bak of=/dev/sdb1 ) Then press F11 when the laptop boots. However, this doesn't work. Any idea why? Edit: I suspect the F11 doesn't work because the laptop tries to boot the laptop, because my partition is the primary partition of the drive. Does anyone have any experience dealing with stuff like this?

• Windows 8 Restore Problems

  I created a Windows 8 system image backup on a separate drive before I installed Linux, and during the Linux installation process I accidentally wiped out Windows. I now want to restore my Windows 8 backup that I have on the separate drive. I created a repair USB stick and I followed the directions according to this article. After selecting the image on the hard drive, I get this error: "To restore this computer, Windows needs to format the hard drive." I don't know what this means! The drive partitions are different now then they were when I backup up, so I don't know if that matters. I re-installed Windows and I can restore my files from this backup, but I don't think this covers the registry, etc. I want a full restore. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or how to restore in a different way? Thanks!

• Linux DD command partition -to- partition

  I just used the DD command to copy the contents of one partition over to another partition on another drive, like this: dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sdb2 bs=4096 conv=noerror sda2 partition was 66GB and sdb2 was 250GB. I read that by doing this the extra space on the drive I am copying to will be wasted, is this true? I wasn't worried about loosing the extra space for the time being however, I just ran: sudo kill -USR1 (PID) to view the current status of DD and it has written over 66GB of data, will it continue to write data until it gets to 250GB? If so, is there a way to stop the process without corrupting it as waiting for it to write blank space seems like a waste of time.

• 3½" PATA Western Digital Caviar SE (250MB) makes steady ticking sound when idle

  I've started to notice a ticking sound emanating from my WD2500JB. It is not alarmingly loud. The sound seems to occur only when the drive has been idle for some time, and will cease upon (some?) disk activity. The sound has a regular, steady cadence of somewhere between about 4 and 6 ticks per second. I'm not entirely certain that it just started making these sounds, since I previously had the drive — mounted in a USB enclosure — stored out of earshot, and only recently moved it to where I can hear it. The SMART attributes for the drive do not indicate any problems. I did have some errors to clean up recently (since I started noticing the sounds). The errors occurred on an ext3 filesystem. The drive had been powered down while mounted a few times prior to that fsck. Is this cause for alarm? Should I scrap the drive on principle?

• 3 TB HDD won't reactivate

  After doing a clean install of Windows 8 my Seagate 3 TB HDD won't reactivate in Disk Management. The two volumes are there but I can't use them for some reason. The drive was previously used with a GPT partition table, I can see the two spanned volumes but can't reactivate either. I backed up all my files from Windows 7 onto that drive and desperately need them back. What can and should I do to get the drive back up and running? When I go to Disk → Properties → Volumes, it claims the drive has a MBR partition style, so converting to GPT somehow without data loss should work. gDisk claims to be able to do that but when I point it to the drive, it claims that it has a GPT partition and a protected MBR partition. Any suggestions on what to do?
