  • Changing BeginTime stops animation

    - by SaphuA
    Hi, I have a storyboard as a resource in a rectangle with a simple doubleAnimation. <Storyboard x:Name="EffectStoryboard"> <DoubleAnimation From="0" To="500" Storyboard.TargetName="WaveEffect" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Val0" RepeatBehavior="Forever" Duration="01:00:00" /> </Storyboard> I start the storyboard in the loaded event of the rectangle: private void Rectangle_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Rectangle rectangle = sender as Rectangle; if (rectangle != null) { Storyboard storyboard = rectangle.Resources["EffectStoryboard"] as Storyboard; //DoubleAnimation doubleAnimation = storyboard.Children[0] as DoubleAnimation; //if (doubleAnimation != null) //{ // doubleAnimation.BeginTime = new TimeSpan(0, random.Next(0, 60), random.Next(0, 60)); //} storyboard.Begin(); } } The problem is that when I uncomment the commented code, the animation won't start anymore. Even when I use non-random values in the timespan. Why?

  • Strange Effect with Overridden Properties and Reflection

    - by naacal
    I've come across a strange behaviour in .NET/Reflection and cannot find any solution/explanation for this: Class A { public string TestString { get; set; } } Class B : A { public override string TestString { get { return "x"; } } } Since properties are just pairs of functions (get_PropName(), set_PropName()) overriding only the "get" part should leave the "set" part as it is in the base class. And this is just what happens if you try to instanciate class B and assign a value to TestString, it uses the implementation of class A. But what happens if I look at the instantiated object of class B in reflection is this: PropertyInfo propInfo = b.GetType().GetProperty("TestString"); propInfo.CanRead ---> true propInfo.CanWrite ---> false(!) And if I try to invoke the setter from reflection with: propInfo.SetValue("test", b, null); I'll even get an ArgumentException with the following message: Property set method not found. Is this as expected? Because I don't seem to find a combination of BindingFlags for the GetProperty() method that returns me the property with a working get/set pair from reflection.

  • Rogue PropertyChanged notifications from ViewModel

    - by user1886323
    The following simple program is causing me a Databinding headache. I'm new to this which is why I suspect it has a simple answer. Basically, I have two text boxes bound to the same property myString. I have not set up the ViewModel (simply a class with one property, myString) to provide any notifications to the View for when myString is changed, so even although both text boxes operate a two way binding there should be no way that the text boxes update when myString is changed, am I right? Except... In most circumstances this is true - I use the 'change value' button at the bottom of the window to change the value of myString to whatever the user types into the adjacent text box, and the two text boxes at the top, even although they are bound to myString, do not change. Fine. However, if I edit the text in TextBox1, thus changing the value of myString (although only when the text box loses focus due to the default UpdateSourceTrigger property, see reference), TextBox2 should NOT update as it shouldn't receive any updates that myString has changed. However, as soon as TextBox1 loses focus (say click inside TextBox2) TextBox2 is updated with the new value of myString. My best guess so far is that because the TextBoxes are bound to the same property, something to do with TextBox1 updating myString gives TextBox2 a notification that it has changed. Very confusing as I haven't used INotifyPropertyChanged or anything like that. To clarify, I am not asking how to fix this. I know I could just change the binding mode to a oneway option. I am wondering if anyone can come up with an explanation for this strange behaviour? ViewModel: namespace WpfApplication1 { class ViewModel { public ViewModel() { _myString = "initial message"; } private string _myString; public string myString { get { return _myString; } set { if (_myString != value) { _myString = value; } } } } } View: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Window.DataContext> <local:ViewModel /> </Window.DataContext> <Grid> <!-- The culprit text boxes --> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="166,70,0,0" Name="textBox1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120" Text="{Binding Path=myString, Mode=TwoWay}" /> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="166,120,0,0" Name="textBox2" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120" Text="{Binding Path=myString, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <!--The buttons allowing manual change of myString--> <Button Name="changevaluebutton" Content="change value" Click="ButtonUpdateArtist_Click" Margin="12,245,416,43" Width="75" /> <Button Content="Show value" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="12,216,0,0" Name="showvaluebutton" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="75" Click="showvaluebutton_Click" /> <Label Content="" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="116,216,0,0" Name="showvaluebox" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="128" /> <TextBox Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="116,245,0,0" Name="changevaluebox" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="128" /> <!--simply some text--> <Label Content="TexBox1" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="99,70,0,0" Name="label1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="61" /> <Label Content="TexBox2" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="99,118,0,0" Name="label2" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="61" /> </Grid> </Window> Code behind for view: namespace WpfApplication1 { /// <summary> /// Interaction logic for MainWindow.xaml /// </summary> public partial class MainWindow : Window { ViewModel viewModel; public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); viewModel = (ViewModel)this.DataContext; } private void showvaluebutton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { showvaluebox.Content = viewModel.myString; } private void ButtonUpdateArtist_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { viewModel.myString = changevaluebox.Text; } } }

  • EventAggregator, is it thread-safe?

    - by pfaz
    Is this thread-safe? The EventAggregator in Prism is a very simple class with only one method. I was surprised when I noticed that there was no lock around the null check and creation of a new type to add to the private _events collection. If two threads called GetEvent simultaneously for the same type (before it exists in _events) it looks like this would result in two entries in the collection. /// <summary> /// Gets the single instance of the event managed by this EventAggregator. Multiple calls to this method with the same <typeparamref name="TEventType"/> returns the same event instance. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TEventType">The type of event to get. This must inherit from <see cref="EventBase"/>.</typeparam> /// <returns>A singleton instance of an event object of type <typeparamref name="TEventType"/>.</returns> public TEventType GetEvent<TEventType>() where TEventType : EventBase { TEventType eventInstance = _events.FirstOrDefault(evt => evt.GetType() == typeof(TEventType)) as TEventType; if (eventInstance == null) { eventInstance = Activator.CreateInstance<TEventType>(); _events.Add(eventInstance); } return eventInstance; }

  • How does the VS XAML designer know what to auto-populate certain values with?

    - by Pwninstein
    <Button Name="MyButton" Content="Test" FontStyle="Italic" /> In the above XAML definition of a button, the FontStyle property is set to Italic. The designer is somehow able to populate a list for me to choose from when I hit the = sign. How is this achieved? Before you answer, consider that the FontStyle property is, appropriately enough, of type FontStyle (which is a struct). It's not an enumeration, which would be trivial for VS to list out at design time, so how are the valid list of options chosen to be displayed? There is also a completely separate FontStyles class which contains three static fields, Italic, Normal, and Oblique which just so happen to be the three items VS provides in the drop down list. Is there some mapping going on behind the scenes between the FontStyle struct and FontStyles class, because I've looked in many places in both the object browser and in .NET Reflector and couldn't determine anything from either. Thanks!! I NEED to know!* *Not really, but it would be nice to :)

  • association of more than one model to a listview

    - by Veer
    I have 3 Tables in my database. Each table has 3 fields each, excluding the ID field. out of which 2 fields are of type nvarchar. None of the tables are related. My ListView in the application helps the user to search my database, the search being incremental. The search includes the nvarchar fields of the 3 tables ie, 6 fields in total. Eg: PhoneBook: Name, PhoneNo Notes: Title, Content Bookmarks: Name, url I've the models generated for the 3 tables. Now the ListBox should display the Ph.Name, Title and the Bo.Name fields. ie, It should be bound to them. But they are from different models. I also should be able to perform CRUD operation on the item searched. How would i do that? P.S: Separate ViewModels are created for each Model which are used for their respective views for handling those tables individually. But this is an integrated view where the user should be able to search everything. Also please somebody suggest me a better Title for this question:)

  • Bind to a markup externsion property

    - by user314580
    Hi, I have written a markup extension which stores amongst others a help text. This help text is shown on the right side of the main window. This works fine. Now, I want to add a tooltip for every control. The content of the tooltip should be same as for the helptext extension. The XAML code: <ListView ctrl:ListViewLayoutManager.Enabled="true" x:Name="ListViewSources" ItemsSource="{Binding SourceItems}" ItemContainerStyle="{DynamicResource ListViewItemStyleAlternate}" Height="150" MinWidth="350" Helper:HelpExtension.IsControl="true" Helper:HelpExtension.HelpText="{x:Static strings:GUIResource.HelpProfilesSourcesDescriptionText}" > <ListView.ToolTip> <ToolTip Style="{DynamicResource Own_TooltipStyle}"></ToolTip> </ListView.ToolTip> And now the code of the style: If I run the program I get the binding error: System.Windows.Data Error: 39 : BindingExpression path error: 'Helper:HelpExtension' property not found on 'object' ''ListView' (Name='ListViewSources')'. BindingExpression:Path=Helper:HelpExtension.HelpText; DataItem='ListView' (Name='ListViewSources'); target element is 'TextBlock' (Name=''); target property is 'Text' (type 'String') Does anybody know how I can bind the TextBlock to the content of Helper:HelpExternsion.HelpText? Thanks Dieter

  • What types of objects should the ViewModel reference in the MVVM pattern?

    - by Blanthor
    I've seen quite a few examples of MVVM. I can see that the View should reference the ViewModel. I've seen recently an example of a ViewModel referencing a View, which seems wrong to me, as it would result in tighter coupling. Given that ViewModel is often described as an intermediary between the View and the Model, is there more to the ViewModel than a facade to domain objects? I hope I used the term "facade" correctly here.

Or is there any other way to do this? Thanks in advance.

  • Why does this binding doesn't work through XAML but does by code ?

    - by user361899
    I am trying to bind to a static property on a static class, this property contains settings that are deserialized from a file. It never works with the following XAML : <Window.Resources> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="wrapper" ObjectType="{x:Type Application:Wrapper}"/> </Window.Resources> <ScrollViewer x:Name="scrollViewer" ScrollViewer.VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource wrapper}, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"> <ComboBox x:Name="comboboxThemes" SelectedIndex="0" SelectionChanged="ComboBoxThemesSelectionChanged" Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="8" Margin="4,3" ItemsSource="{Binding Settings.Themes, Mode=OneWay}" SelectedValue="{Binding Settings.LastTheme, Mode=TwoWay}" /> It does work by code however : comboboxThemes.ItemsSource = Settings.Themes; Any idea ? Thank you :-)

  • How Can I Get a TextPointer from a mouse click in a FlowDocument

    - by Bear
    I would like to get the word that a user has clicked on in a FlowDocument. I am currently adding an event handler to every Run in the document and iterating through the TextPointers in the Run that was clicked, calling GetCharacterRect() on each one and checking if the rectangle contains the point. However, when the click occurs near the end of a long Run this takes 10 seconds. Is there any more efficient method?

  • How Do you Declare a Dependancy Property in VB.Net 3.0

    - by discwiz
    My company is stuck on .Net 3.0. The task I am trying to tackle is simple, I need to bind the IsChecked property of the CheckBoxResolvesCEDAR to the CompletesCEDARWork in my Audio class. The more I read about this it appears that I have to declare CompletesCEDARWork as dependancy propert, but I can not find a good example of how this is done. • Binding Data into a Resource

    How do you bind data from the view model into an object in the resources of the user control? Here is a very abstract example: <UserControl ... xmlns:local="clr-namespace:My.Local.Namespace" Name="userControl"> <UserControl.Resources> <local:GroupingProvider x:Key="groupingProvider" GroupValue="{Binding ???}" /> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid> <local:GroupingConsumer Name="groupingConsumer1" Provider={StaticResource groupingProvider"} /> <local:GroupingConsumer Name="groupingConsumer2" Provider={StaticResource groupingProvider"} /> </Grid> </UserControl> How do I bind GroupValue to a property in the view model behind this view. I've tried the following: <local:GroupingProvider x:Key="groupingProvider" GroupValue="{Binding ElementName=userControl, Path=DataContext.Property}"/> But this doesn't work. Edit: GroupProvider extends DependencyObject and GroupValue is the name of a DependencyProperty. I'm getting an debugging message telling me that the property to which I am binding doesn't exist.

  • How to implement a timer for regular events?

    - by Torben Jonas
    I would like to implement some timers into my application. My goal is to provide an easy way to execute some function every x seconds/minutes so I thought about implementing a 1 sec, 5 sec and 15 seconds timer. The first thing i would like to update every 1 second is the built in clock (don't know if there is any other solution in c#, used this method in c++) Another use would be e.g. a sync function etc. which shall be executed every xx seconds. My question is if there are any useful tutorials on this topic? It is the first time that I would like to implement such an timer system into one of my applications and I do not know if there are any things I have to keep in mind. Thank you in advance for any answer :)

Here is the XAML used for creating above mentioned dataGrid: <DataGrid Grid.Row="1" Margin="0,10,0,0" ItemsSource="{Binding Ledgers}" IsReadOnly="True" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Customer Name" Binding="{Binding LedgerName}" /> <DataGridTextColumn Header="City" Binding="{Binding City}" /> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Mobile Number 1" Binding="{Binding MobileNo1}" /> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Mobile Number 2" Binding="{Binding MobileNo2}" /> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Opening Balance" Binding="{Binding OpeningBalance}" /> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> Update1: Update2 I have created a converter as follows: public class MobileNumberFormatConverter : IValueConverter { public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (value != null && value != DependencyProperty.UnsetValue) { if (value.ToString().Length <= 15) { int spacesToAdd = 15 - value.ToString().Length; string s = value.ToString().PadRight(value.ToString().Length + spacesToAdd); return s; } return value.ToString().Substring(0, value.ToString().Length - 3) + "..."; } return ""; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } I have used it in XAML as follows: <DataGridTextColumn Header="Mobile Numbers"> <DataGridTextColumn.Binding> <MultiBinding StringFormat=" {0} {1}"> <Binding Path="MobileNo1" Converter="{StaticResource mobileNumberFormatConverter}"/> <Binding Path="MobileNo2" Converter="{StaticResource mobileNumberFormatConverter}"/> </MultiBinding> </DataGridTextColumn.Binding> </DataGridTextColumn> The output I got: Update3: At last I got the desired output. Here is the code for Converter: public class MobileNumberFormatConverter : IValueConverter { public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (value != null && value != DependencyProperty.UnsetValue) { if (parameter.ToString().ToUpper() == "N") { if (value.ToString().Length <= 15) { return value.ToString(); } else { return value.ToString().Substring(0, 12); } } else if (parameter.ToString().ToUpper() == "S") { if (value.ToString().Length <= 15) { int spacesToAdd = 15 - value.ToString().Length; string spaces = ""; return spaces.PadRight(spacesToAdd); } else { return "..."; } } } return ""; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } Here is my XAML: <DataGridTemplateColumn Header="Mobile Numbers"> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock> <Run Text="{Binding MobileNo1, Converter={StaticResource mobileNumberFormatConverter}, ConverterParameter=N}" /> <Run Text="{Binding MobileNo1, Converter={StaticResource mobileNumberFormatConverter}, ConverterParameter=S}" FontFamily="Consolas"/> <Run Text=" " FontFamily="Consolas"/> <Run Text="{Binding MobileNo2, Converter={StaticResource mobileNumberFormatConverter}, ConverterParameter=N}" /> <Run Text="{Binding MobileNo2, Converter={StaticResource mobileNumberFormatConverter}, ConverterParameter=S}" FontFamily="Consolas"/> </TextBlock> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn> Output:

  • How to save an image in it's original format?

    - by Patrick Klug
    I am trying to figure out how I can get the original format of an image so that I can store it with the same encoding. It seems that the only way to save an Image is by using a BitmapEncoder but I don't know how I can get the correct format from the image. Example: Clipboard.GetImage() returns a InteropBitmap which doesn't seem to contain any information about the original format. I also tried using an Extension method: public static void Save(this BitmapImage image, System.IO.Stream stream) { var decoder = BitmapDecoder.Create(image.StreamSource, BitmapCreateOptions.PreservePixelFormat, BitmapCacheOption.Default); var encoder = BitmapEncoder.Create(decoder.CodecInfo.ContainerFormat); foreach (var frame in decoder.Frames) { encoder.Frames.Add(BitmapFrame.Create(decoder.Frames[0])); } encoder.Save(stream); } but the problem is that a) the ImageSource is not always a BitmapImage (Clipboard.GetImage()) for example and b) the image.StreamSource can be null in some cases (seems to be when the image is loaded via a relative Uri)

  • Is there such a thing as a dektop application event aggregator, similar to that used in Prism?

    - by brownj
    The event aggregator in Prism is great, and allows loosely coupled communication between modules within a composite application. Does such a thing exist that allows the same thing to happen between standalone applications running on a user's desktop? I could imagine developing a solution that uses WCF with TCP binding and running inside Windows Process Activation Service. Client applications could subscribe or publish events to this service as required and it would ensure all other listeners get notified of events as appropriate. Using TCP would enable event messages to be pushed out to clients without the need for polling, ensuring messages are delivered very quickly. I can't help but think though that such a thing would already exist... Is anyone aware of something like this, or have any advice on how it may be best implemented?

  • Uniform grid Rows and Columns

    - by Carlo
    I'm trying to make a grid based on a UniformGrid to show the coordinates of each cell, and I want to show the values on the X and Y axes like so: _A_ _B_ _C_ _D_ 1 |___|___|___|___| 2 |___|___|___|___| 3 |___|___|___|___| 4 |___|___|___|___| Anyway, in order to do that I need to know the number of columns and rows in the Uniform grid, and I tried overriding the 3 most basic methods where the arrangement / drawing happens, but the columns and rows in there are 0, even though I have some controls in my grid. What method can I override so my Cartesian grid knows how many columns and rows it has? C#: public class CartesianGrid : UniformGrid { protected override Size MeasureOverride(Size constraint) { Size size = base.MeasureOverride(constraint); int computedColumns = this.Columns; // always 0 int computedRows = this.Rows; // always 0 return size; } protected override Size ArrangeOverride(Size arrangeSize) { Size size = base.ArrangeOverride(arrangeSize); int computedColumns = this.Columns; // always 0 int computedRows = this.Rows; // always 0 return size; } protected override void OnRender(DrawingContext dc) { int computedColumns = this.Columns; // always 0 int computedRows = this.Rows; // always 0 base.OnRender(dc); } } XAML: <local:CartesianGrid> <Label Content="Hello" /> <Label Content="Hello" /> <Label Content="Hello" /> <Label Content="Hello" /> <Label Content="Hello" /> <Label Content="Hello" /> </local:CartesianGrid> Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
