• "Deny log on through Terminal Serivces" insists on "Everyone"

  We've got a standalone (non-domain) server where "Deny log on through Terminal Services" contains "Everyone" -- ok, we didn't want that, not sure how it got set, but whatever. We removed it ...and "Everyone" came back. Tried adding "Guest" to the deny list, removing "Everyone" ...which ended up with the setting containing "Everyone, Guest" Clearly there's another setting somewhere that's preempting this one, but it beats me which one. Any ideas? ("Everyone" is being shown as reset upon reloading the Local Security Settings window, so it's possible that it's not actually being changed in the underlying store, and just shows the change in the UI)

• How can I copy and paste formatted text in Excel?

  Before I ask question, I've searched but only found ways of copy and paste "formatted cell". That's not what I need. I want to use an example to explain my requirement: There are 2 cells in a sheet. Cell_A's text is "aaaaabbbbb", and "aaaaa" is green, and "bbbbb" is red. Cell_B's text is "ccccc" and "ccccc" is black. I want to copy and paste "bbbbb" from Cell_A to Cell_B and keep "bbbbb" in red. But in my environment(Office 2007), "bbbbb" is changed to black as "ccccc", the default format of Cell_B. Is there an easy way to implement my requirement?

• PHP fopen fails - does not have permission to open file in write mode.

  Hello. I have an Apache 2.17 server running on a Fedora 13. I want to be able to create a file in a directory. I cannot do that. Whenever I try to open a file with php for writing fopen(,'w'), it tells me that I don't have permission to do that. So i checked the httpd.conf file in /etc/httpd/conf/. It says user apache, group apache. So I changed ownership (chown -R apache:apache .*) of my whole /www directory to apache:apache. I also run chmod -R 777 * Apart from knowing how terribly dangerous this is, it actually still gives me the same error, even though I even allow public write!

• Conversion of DVC-PRO HD 1080, any free tool?

  Is there any free (as in beer, and if it's possible as in bird) tool to convert a dvd in the format DVC-PRO HD 1080 to a normal/standard dvd format so that I can play it on a normal DVD player? EDIT: I changed the wording a bit. We've a video in DVC-PRO HD 1080 but as far as I know it is a proprietary format. We'd like to create a standard dvd out of it. I'm not really in video encoding and dvd conversion. I thought I need to be more precise. VLC currently doesn't support DVC-PRO HD 1080.

• Internet Explorer 9 send page by email grayed out

  Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit has the items Send Page by email and Send link by email grayed out. The default email client is Windows Live Mail 2011. I have used the "Set Default" dialogs to do that. Everything else recognizes Windows Live Mail 2011 as the default, including Firefox 4. I have duplicated this problem on two computers here. I have changed the default email program to Mozilla Thunderbird on one of the computers, and IE9 won't let me Send Page by email or Send link by email there, either. Has anyone gotten this to work? Firefox is my default browser, but sometimes I have to use IE9.

• Is it possible to push DNS search suffices from DNS server to client?

  Our (active directory, windows-server-based) intranet used to be called "intranet", and DNS worked fine for windows machines and iPads/Android devices. We have changed it to be "apps.intranet", and it still works for windows machines, but no longer for iPads/Android devices. I think this is because out windows clients are configured to append .company.com when searching DNS, to make it a fully qualified lookup (this search suffix list is pushed to the PCs via AD group policies). I must admit, though, I don't know why it worked with just "intranet"! Does anyone know if it's possible to get DNS to "tell" the iPads/Android devices to append .company.com ... or how we can make it work some other way (but still using the multi-label, non-qualified DNS names) ? • Bash script getting automatically deleted from Ubuntu 12.04 Server?

  I'm running a bash script on an ubuntu 12.04 through cron. The script works fine for a few weeks (runs daily backups of websites, mysql databases, and copies to Amazon S3). However, twice now I've noticed that backups stopped happening. Both times the backup script (backupscript.sh) located in my home folder was no longer there. No one else has access to this server, so nothing was manually changed on the server and no one deleted the file by mistake. The cron job (nano /etc/crontab) still references this script, but the script itself disappears. What could cause this to happen? Does Ubuntu delete the script if it runs into some sort of error?

• What can stop IIS7 from restarting an ASP.NET app when uppdating a dll in the bin folder?

  We're running ASP.NET 2.0 on MS Server 2008 and IIS 7. During the last releases the app pool hasn't automatically been restarted after changes in the bin folder. It works like a charm on our test server but not on the live server. The site is browsable but runs with the logic of the old version of the updated dll. One of the changes we have done lately is that one of the dll:s in the bin folder consists of other dlls that have been merged with ILMerge. Interop.ADODB.dll and Interop.CDO.dll is included in the merged dll. It is the user dll of the merged dll that is updated. What can possibly hinder IIS from restarting the app pool although a file has changed in the bin folder?

• Postfix configuration w.r.t. port 25

  After a considerable amount of research, I have configured my postfix server to use dovecot to accept SMTPS connections over port 465 and everything works swimmingly. Unfortunately, I forgot that, unless I listen to port 25, I'm not going to receive any e-mail from the net. I'm hoping somebody knows off the top of their head how to open up port 25 on Postfix for anonymous users, but disallow relaying and any other bad things on that port. And to leave the port 465 the way it is. • How long does it take for a server to get 'off greylisting'

  Hi all, I asked a question regarding email delays a few months ago, and I think I found a workaround. I changed our email from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]", and it seems to work instantly again. After reading some articles, I believe this could be due to some form of greylisting, though some servers might call it something else -- if a server like yahoo or gmail receive email from a server that it is not used to receiving email from, then sometimes the delay occurs. But a name such as yahoo, gmail, which requires a user to sign up manually -- this delay can be avoided. My question is this: does anyone know more about this issue -- especially since it would be nice to send an email from our own site, instead of needing to use a whitelisted server? Thanks!

  I have been asked to truncate a large table in sql server 2008. The data is not needed but might be needed once every two years. It will NEVER have to be changed, only viewed. The question is, since I don't need the data on a day-to-day basis, what do I do with it to protect and back it up? Please keep in mind that I will need to have it accessible maybe once every two years, and it is FINE for us if the recovery process takes a few hours. The entire table is about 3 million rows and I need to truncate it to about 1 million rows.

• Free duplicate music finder for Mac.

  I'm trying to clean up an mp3 folder which has a plethora of duplicate files in it due to accidentally dragging my music folder into iTunes and having it re-import songs which were already in the play list. I tried writing a quick Python app to md5 all of the files, and delete exact duplicates. This took out ~2gb of files. Unfortunately, however, this does not work on all of the duplicates because of an iTunes feature. iTunes has changed the ID3 title on some of the duplicate songs, which means the md5 of the entire file is different from the same song with a different ID3 tag. Are there any free applications out there (for the mac) which can compare the data of the actual song (ignoring ID3 tags) and determine if duplicates exist?

  I'm running IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 Ultimate. I've installed PHP Version 5.2.14 using Microsoft Web Platform Installer. I've created a virtual directory and a file with which I can browse it and it returns all the PHP information just fine.   I am working on OTRS where i want to set OTRS Login page on otrs.mydomain.com. I am having machine CentOS release 6.2 (Final). Currently I am accessing it,using otrs.mydomain.com/otrs/customer.pl for customer login AND otrs.mydomain.com/otrs/index.pl for admin login.   I am editing a 96 chapter book. The text is in normal black letters on a white background. What I want to be able to do is: I want to have any changes or additions automatically shown in another (per-selected) color. Without having to a)high lite a word or phrase to be changed or added and then b)going to the toolbar and clicking on the font color In other words I want the original color of the text to remain as it is and any additions or changes to be visible in another color without having to use the toolbar.   This is my first time developing Android applications. I'm developing an Android app on Eclipse on Windows 7. I would like to run the Android app from the Windows 7 command line interface. I have my Android device connected to the PC. The workspace directory that I use to store the Android project is C:\Users\Guest\Desktop\Software Applications Development\Java\Android Moblie Applications Projects\Eclipse Indigo for Java EE x64-bit\project workspace I opened the command line interface and I changed the working directory to the Android workspace directory. cd C:\Users\Guest\Desktop\Software Applications Development\Java\Android Moblie Applications Projects\Eclipse Indigo for Java EE x64-bit\project workspace I included Android sdk platform tools directory into the PATH environment variable. c:\Users\admin\Android-sdks\platform-tools Then I entered this into the Windows 7 command line interface: ant debug I have this error message on the cmd: ant is not recognised as an internal or external command, operatable program or batch file. What is the solution to this problem?

• Lotus notes 8.5 quota

  we're using lotus notes 8.5 and I have a user who was over his quota as he had sent 6 email with attachement over 800 MB (no comment...) I deleted these oversized email and empty the trash but domino keep sending email warning about quota. I checked in the all documents view and they are no longer there, I re-did an empty the trash. I saw a post on the internet saying to compact his database, when I go under file, application, properties and click on the info tab, I see that he use 35.7% of the 3 GB database. when I click on "compact" I see a message saying the compact of the database is beeing process... the message disapear after about 1 minutes the message disapear but nothing else seem to happen and when I look back later on the space problem has not changed. any advice would be appreciated.

  Is there a way to tell xrandr "this space intentionally left blank"? I have a laptop that drives its internal display at 1920x1080, but the external monitor I'm using, due to its different aspect ratio, doesn't have that mode. It runs at 1920x1200. (Update 2: changed it to an answer, per suggestion -- workaround doesn't answer the underlying question of leaving space blank.)

  Hii all i am trying to change the port no of my tomcat server installed in ubuntu. for this i have changed the file server.xml and made a change there as: <Connector port="8081" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="20000" URIEncoding="UTF-8" redirectPort="8443" /> But the problem is that whenever i try to open the localhost:8081 it is working fine but when i tried to open localhost:8080 then it is still accessible. So please explain this why this is happening. Secondly when i made the default port to 80 then localhost:80 or localhost then it was not accessible. So please explain this why this is happening. • Monitor or log directory permission changes?

  I'm having an issue with a cPanel shared server running CentOS 5 where a few directories under the public_html folder keep getting changed to 777 from 755. The customer says they are not changing it and i'm wondering if there is a way to monitor these specific directories to find out who/what is changing the permissions. I have looked into using auditctl and after testing it and changing the permissions myself I don't see anything in the logs so i'm not sure if i'm doing it right or if it's even possible. Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas on how I could figure out what is changing the permissions? Thanks!!

Can the criteria be made more liberal? When an item that was matched by its title is selected from the suggestion list, the title is filled in in place of the URL. The filled in part sometimes starts from the middle of a URL or a title. Can either of these behaviors be changed? Can you redirect unresolved addresses to the default search engine or a custom URL? In Firefox you can go to about:config and set keyword.URL to http://www.google.com/search?btnI&q=. Can you remove or hide the web search field? In Camino, Cruz, and Fluid it can be resized to zero width.

• How do I determine what Excel-2007 is removing when it repairs my file?

  Summary: Excel repairs my file, tells me what was removed, I go into the xml/zip structure to investigate, and I cannot figure out what was changed. Does anybody know what I can do to better understand what Excel changed? Is it futile to try to determine? It feels like this should be possible and like I'm almost there... Details: When I open a file that I have renamed unnamed.xlsm, I receive the following notice: "Excel found unreadable content in 'unnamed.xlsm'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the sounce of this workbook, click Yes." I know the file is safe, I click yes, and I receive a message that "Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content." It provides the following summary, but also provides an xml file which seems to contain the same content so I did not show it. Summary: Removed Records: Shared formula from /xl/worksheets/sheet3.xml part Removed Records: Formula from /xl/calcChain.xml part (Calculation properties) In order to determine issue, I have created a copy of the offending file, renamed it to have a '.zip' ending, opened up the files that Excel says it modified (sheet3), and perused the xml content, but this was not informative. I tried saving the repaired file and doing a simple diff on the xml for sheet3, but there are many changes and this is not informative either. I did the same thing for calcChain.xml and this was more useful. After saving the displayed xml with line breaks in text format, it was easy to identify the items that have been removed, but now I want to make sense of them. Perhaps they give clues of what happened to shee3. The following comparison is long, but I don't know if the entire train of differences is relevant. • Backup of images

  I've just installed a Ubuntu for a file server. It will share a folder (samba) and employees of my company will save photos on that. Currently the total amount of the photos is about 100GB and every day 20MB will be added. My question is about backup plan. I want to backup the photos to a remote server using a cron job. I can think of 2 things. rsync git Image files won't be changed so rsync will do. But as people say, I must git all my data. What would you do? Thanks. Sam

• sudo suddenly stopped working on debian

  I've been using 'sudo ' since I setup my server about a week ago. It suddently stopped working with no explanation. I am in 'sudo' group. So there should be no config change required to /etc/sudoers $ sudo apt-get install tsocks [sudo] password for me: me is not in the sudoers file. root@host:/etc# groups me me : me sudo The only thing it could possibly be related to was I added the following line to sshd_config: PermitRootLogin without-password But I have since changed that back to PermitRootLogin yes Permission on file is 400: ls -l /etc/sudoers -r--r----- 1 root root 491 Sep 28 21:52 /etc/sudoers No idea why it stopped working, or how to fix it.
