• Unable to encode to iso-8859-1 encoding for some chars using Perl Encode module

  I have a HTML string in ISO-8859-1 encoding. I need to pass this string to HTML:Entities::decode_entities() for converting some of the HTML ASCII codes to respective chars. To so i am using a module HTML::Parser::Entities 3.65 but after decode_entities() operation my whole string changes to utf-8 string. This behavior seems fine as the documentation of the HTML::Parse. As i need this string back in ISO-8859-1 format for further processing so i have used Encode::encode("iso-8859-1",$str) to change the string back to ISO-8859-1 encoding. My results are fine excepts for some chars, a question mark is coming instead. One example is single quote ' ASCII code (’) Can anybody help me if there any limitation of Encode module? Any other pointer will also be helpful to solve the problem. Thanks

But when I click, the vote number can not be updated immediately. • Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table

  I'm getting the above mentioned error when backing up with ZRM, which is using mysqldump for backup. mysqldump --opt --extended-insert --single-transaction --create-options --default-character-set=utf8 --user=" " -p --all-databases "/nfs/backup/mysql01/dailyrun/20091216043001/backup.sql" mysqldump: Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table TICKET_ATTACHMENT at row: 2286 I have increased the size for 'max_allowed_packet' to be 1G in /etc/my.cnf which is the server setting and for the client side setting I've set it by running this command: mysql -u -p --max_allowed_packet=1G And I have verified that on the client and server side they are of the same value. This is to check the client side value according to this forum posting http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?35,75794,261640 mysql SELECT @@MAX_ALLOWED_PACKET - ; +----------------------+ | @@MAX_ALLOWED_PACKET | +----------------------+ | 1073741824 | +----------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) And this is the check the server value setting. mysql SHOW VARIABLES | max_allowed_packet | 1073741824 | I have ran out of ideas, and tried searching within expert exchange and googling for solutions but so far none has worked. However, I have the following two problems: If I try to implement a double click event for richTextBox1, I can detect when a word is clicked, however that word is highlighted (selected), which I'd like to avoid. I can deselect it programmatically by selecting the end of the text, but that causes a flicker, which I would like to avoid. What ways are there to do this? The GetCharIndexFromPosition method returns the index of the character that is closest to the cursor. This means that if the only thing my RichTextBox contains is a word starting with a # then the cursor will be a hand no matter where on the rich text control it is. How can I make it so that it is only a hand when it hovers over an actual word or character that is part of a word I'm interested in? The implemented URL detection also partially suffers from this problem. If I enable detection of URLs and only write www.test.com in the rich text editor, the cursor will be a hand as long as it is on or below the link. It will not be a hand if it's to the right of the link however. I'm fine even with this functionality if making the cursor a hand if and only if it's on the text proves to be too difficult. I'm guessing I'll have to resort to some sort of Windows API calls, but I don't really know where to start. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I would like to implement this myself. Update: The flickering problem would be solved if I could make it so that no text is selectable through double clicking, only through dragging the mouse cursor. Is this easier to achieve? Because I don't really care if one can select text or not by double clicking in this case.

• Is there a way to put relationships/contraints into CSS?

  In every design tool or art principle I've heard of, relationships are a central theme. By relationships I mean the thing you can do in Adobe Illustrator to specify that the height of one shape is equal to half the height of another. You cannot express this information in CSS. CSS hard-codes all values. Using a language like LESS that allows variables and arithmetic you can get closer to relationships but it's still a CSS variant. This inability in my mind is the biggest problem with CSS. CSS is supposed to be a language that describes the visual component of a Web page but it ignores relationships and contraints, ideas that are at the core of art. How possible is it to imagine a new Web design language that can express relationships and contraints that can be implemented in JavaScript using the current CSS properties?

• Mercurial "hg clone" on Windows via ssh with plink issue

  I have a Windows Server 2008 machine (iis7) that has CopSSH set up on it. To connect to it, I have a Windows 7 machine with Mercurial 1.5.1 (and TortoiseHg) installed. I can connect to the server using PuTTY with a non-standard ssh port and a .ppk file just fine. So I know the server can be SSH'd into. Next, I wanted to use the CLI to connect via hg clone to get a private repo. I've seen elsewhere that you need to have ssh configured in your mercurial.ini file, so my mercurial.ini has a line: ssh = plink.exe -ssh -C -l username -P #### -i "C:/Program Files/PuTTY/Key Files/KyleKey.ppk" Note: username is filled in with the username I set up via copSSH. #### is filled in with the non-standard ssh port I've defined for copSSH. I try to do the command hg clone ssh://inthom.com but I get this error: remote: bash: inthom.com: command not found abort: no suitable response from remote hg! It looks like hg or plink parses the hostname such that it thinks that inthom.com is a command instead of the server to ssh to. That's really odd. Next, I tried to just use plink to connect by plink -P #### ssh://inthom.com, and I am then prompted for my username, and next password. I enter them both and then I get this error: bash: ssh://inthom.com: No such file or directory So now it looks like plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly. I fiddled around for a while trying to figure out how to do call hg clone with an empty ssh:// field and eventually figured out that this command allows me to reach the server and clone a test repo on the inthom.com server: hg clone ssh://!/Repos/test ! is the character I've found that let's me leave the hostname blank, but specify the repo folder to clone. What I really don't understand is how plink knows what server to ssh to at all. neither my mercurial.ini nor the command specify a server. None of the hg clone examples I've seen have a ! character. They all use an address, which makes sense, so you can connect to any repo via ssh that you want to clone. My only guess is that it somehow defaults to the last server I used PuTTY to SSH to, but I SSH'd into another server, and then tried to use plink to get to it, but plink still defaults to inthom.com (verified with the -v arg to plink). So I am at a loss as to how plink gets this server value at all. For "fun", I tried using TortoiseHg and can only clone a repo when I use ssh://!/Repos/test as the Source. Now, you can see that, since plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly, I had to specify the port number and username in the mercurial.ini file, instead of in the hostname like [email protected]:#### like you'd expect to. Trying to figure this out at first drove me insane, because I would get errors that the host couldn't be reached, which I knew shouldn't be the case. My question is how can I configure my setup so that ssh://[email protected]:####/Repos/test is parsed correctly as the username, hostname, port number, and repo to copy? Is it something wrong with the version of plink that I'm using, or is there some setting I may have messed up? If it is plink's fault, is there an alternative tool I can use? I'm going to try to get my friend set up to connect to this same repo, so I'd like to have a clean solution instead of this ! business. Especially when I have no idea how plink gets this default server, so I'm not sure if he'd even be able to get to inthom.com correctly. PS. I've had to use a ton of different tutorials to even get to this stage. Therefore, I haven't tried pushing any changes to the server yet. Hopefully I'll get this figured out and then I can try pushing changes to the repo.

• Rake tasks in other files

  Im trying to use rake in a project, and if I put everything into Rakefile it will be huge and hard to read/find things, so I tried to stick each namesapce in its own file in lib/rake, i added this to the top of my rake file: Dir['#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/lib/rake/*.rake'].map { |f| require f } it loads the file no problem, but doesn't have the tasks. I only have one .rake file as a test for now called "servers.rake" and it looks like this: namespace :server do task :test do puts "test" end end so when I run rake server:test id expect to see one line appear saying "test", instead I get rake aborted! Don't know how to build task 'server:test' at first I thought my codes wrong but if I copy the contents of lib/rake/servers.rake into Rakefile it works fine. How do I get rake tasks to work that are in another file?

• How to disable or edit Google Chrome Developer Tools shortcut?

  There is a shortcut in the Google Chrome Developer Tools which happen to trigger every times I try to type the [ or ] character in the console. The shortcut in question probably is Alt+[, Alt+^ or [ and it moves the tabs (of the Chrome Developer Tools) to the last selected one. This shortcut is simply blocking me from typing the [ or ] in the console and I want to either disable it or edit it to something else. How can I edit or disable that shortcut ? Note : I'm not really using the shortcut in the developers tools, so if it's only possible to disable all shortcut it would be a viable solution.

• Can a program that controls IE detect if a HTTP 30x code is encountered?

  I am trying to control an InternetExplorer.Application via the COM interface, using Perl, Win32::OLE, and information from MSDN. My goal is to get as good an idea as possible about what IE is doing. (Related to this question.) IE uses events to notify my program when it has finished various stages of processing a certain URL (NavigateComplete2, DownloadComplete DocumentComplete). It can also tell my program about various errors it encounters (NavigateError2). I consider that part of my problem solved well enough. I would also like to be able to reliably detect if IE is redirected by the server. Primarily, I'm concerned about HTTP 30x status codes. Is there a way to do this, either with COM automation or via another route?

  Hi all, I am trying to develop a J2ME application that could retrieve the google map by passing in the GPS coordinates. From http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Google_Maps_API_in_Java_ME, it provides the Utility method for map scrolling. Basically it states that i need to include MicroFloat library in my project. Here's what i did (Not sure if i am doing it right) Create a project, build the code. Add the jar file into my current project lib. but i am still getting error from codes. • Keycodes of function keys with F-lock off?

  Many recent keyboard from Microsoft and Logitech have a so-called F-Lock key, which toggles the function keys F1 to F12 between their traditional keycodes and new meanings that are printed onto the keys: F1=Help F2=Undo F3=Redo F4=Open ... . (See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-Lock.) This means that long-established shortcuts such as Alt+F4 no longer work if the F-lock is off, and googling shows that quite a few people are unhappy about this. So I'm wondering, what virtual key (VK) codes do the function keys send when F-lock is off? VK_F13 to VK_F24 perhaps? Or do they not trigger standard keyboard events at all? (I haven't got such a keyboard to try and find out myself, and didn't manage to dig up anything on MSDN about this.)

• Smart auto detect and replace URLs with anchor tags

  I've written a regular expression that automatically detects URLs in free text that users enter. This is not such a simple task as it may seem at first. Jeff Atwood writes about it in his post. His regular expression works, but needs extra code after detection is done. I've managed to write a regular expression that does everything in a single go. This is how it looks like (I've broken it down into separate lines to make it more understandable what it does): 1 (?<outer>\()? 2 (?<scheme>http(?<secure>s)?://)? 3 (?<url> 4 (?(scheme) 5 (?:www\.)? 6 | 7 www\. 8 ) 9 [a-z0-9] 10 (?(outer) 11 [-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+(?=\)) 12 | 13 [-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+ 14 ) 15 ) 16 (?<ending>(?(outer)\))) As you may see, I'm using named capture groups (used later in Regex.Replace()) and I've also included some local characters (cšžcd), that allow our localised URL to be parsed as well. You can easily omit them if you'd like. Anyway. Here's what it does (referring to line numbers): 1 - detects if URL starts with open braces (is contained inside braces) and stores it in "outer" named capture group 2 - checks if it starts with URL scheme also detecting whether scheme is SSL or not 3 - starts parsing URL itself (will store it in "url" named capture group) 4-8 - if statement that says: if "sheme" was present then www. part is optional, otherwise mandatory for a string to be a link (so this regular expression detects all strings that start with either http or www) 9 - first character after http:// or www. should be either a letter or a number (this can be extended if you would like to cover even more links, but I've decided to omit other characters because I can't remember a link that would start with some other character 10-14 - if statement that says: if "outer" (braces) was present capture everything up to the last closing braces otherwise capture all 15 - closes the named capture group for URL 16 - if open braces was present, capture closing braces as well and store it in "ending" named capture group First and last line used to have \s* in them as well, so user could also write open braces and put a space inside before pasting link. Anyway. My code that does link replacement with actual anchor HTML elements looks exactly like this: value = Regex.Replace( value, @"(?<outer>\()?(?<scheme>http(?<secure>s)?://)?(?<url>(?(scheme)(?:www\.)?|www\.)[a-z0-9](?(outer)[-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+(?=\))|[-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+))(?<ending>(?(outer)\)))", "${outer}<a href=\"http${secure}://${url}\">http${secure}://${url}</a>${ending}", RegexOptions.Compiled | RegexOptions.CultureInvariant | RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); As you can see I'm using named capture groups to replace link with an Anchor tag: ${outer}<a href=\"http${secure}://${url}\">http${secure}://${url}</a>${ending} I could as well omit the http(s) part in anchor display to make links look friendlier, but for now I decided not to. Question I would like for my links to be replaced with shortenings as well. So when user copies a very long links (for instance if they would copy a link from google maps that usually generates long links I would like to shorten the visible part of the anchor tag. Link would work, but visible part of an anchor tag would be shortened to some number of characters. Does the replace string support notations like that so I can stil use a singe Regex.Replace() call?

So I use this as a start point to object-oriented modeling and inheritance design: in a way that I separate the 'Objects' from 'Operations'. then look for patterns and inheritance hierarchy. But now after practice I guess it's not a good idea for every modeling problem, because sometimes it's not effective. (I mean there is no possibility of developing (or is very hard to develop) codes of Turing-Completed languages based on this paradigm.) What is your viewpoint for designing an OOD structure as an experienced programmer?

• Profile service is not available in code in Page_Load within ASP.NET Web Projects

  Profile that is used for ASP.NET Profile Service is not available in Page code behind files like in Page_Load. It may be just a problem with Visual Studio installation/configuration, but as another problem, classes placed in App_Code in not seen in page codes. Even when I'm adding new ASP.NET folder to my project, "App_Code" is not available as an option. I tested the entire scenario with ASP.NET Web Project and Empty ASP.NET Web Project. This problem does exists while creating ASP.NET Website. Environment: Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate x64, ASP.NET 4.0, Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. What may be the problem and how it can be solved?

Note : 'code_summary_id' is define as column in code_set_detail table, and define as primary key in code_summary table. To sum-up, I would like define 'code_summary_id' as primary key in code_summary table, and map 'code_summary_id' in code_set_detail table. How to define a primary key in a table, and also map this key to another table ?

• Combining deflate and minify - am i creating overhead?

  I minify my css and js files on the fly with google.codes minify. I have also set my .htaccess to use deflate on all my css and js files - the reason beeing some js files (like shadowbox and tinymce) reference to other js files in the code. So i'm compressing with apache deflate and also minify compresses some js and css files with gzip - am i creating overhead by doing this - first gzipping (minify) and then zlib (deflate) will run through again. Or will apache deflate ignore the already gzipped files having the attributes set by minify in the headers. Anyone have any experiences with this?

  I'm trying to install a fully virtualized guest (Fedora 14 x86_64) on KVM (RHEL 6), using command-line only (both hypervisor and guest). It goes without errors, and without a tangible result . I'd like to know how to do a text-only installation. So, here's what I've done: # virt-install \ --name=FE --ram=756 --vcpus=1 \ --file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/FE.img --network bridge:br0 \ --nographics --os-type=linux \ --extra-args='console=tty0' -v \ --cdrom=/media/usb/Fedora-14-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso Starting install... Creating domain... | 0 B 00:00 Connected to domain FE Escape character is ^] ÿ Now what? As I understand after googling for a couple of days, I should see the guest's output from the text installation, but nothing happens. virt-viewer cannot connect to it, kindly suggesting that I explore all the options by adding --help (which I did). If I reconnect with virsh, I see this: Domain installation still in progress. You can reconnect to the console to complete the installation process.
