  Here is my IPCONFIG /ALL from the host (Windows 7 64-bit): Here is my IFCONFIG from the guest (Ubuntu 10.04): To be honest, I don't have experience configuring a network between a host and a guest in VMWare (a virtual machine). I've searched high and low on the internet, but I haven't seen anything that can help. Perhaps I'm just not using the right keywords when I search. Nevertheless, does anyone here have any experience with establishing a network connection? Edit: One important note. I don't use DHCP to provide private addresses to the hosts on my LAN. I use "static" IP addresses on my internal network by configuring each IP address manually in the host's network configuration utility (I have TV's, XBOX 360, and a few PC's). I would like to configure the IP on the virtual machine guest manually as well. The reason is because my XBOX 360 only works properly using a static IP address. It will kick me off XBOX Live if it has one given by the router (via DHCP).

• Wamp server won't run [closed]

  win xp sp3 I installed wamp 2.2 and after starting it was allways orrange and offline. Clicking on "Put Online" I got the error: wampserver aestan tray menu - could not execute menu item (internal error)... Somewhere I found the advice to change httpd.conf file (Listen 80 - to Listen 8080) Now, mouseover try icon shows that server is online, but it is still orrange, and click on localhost shows: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost. Skype is not running and inside Skype options "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections" is unchecked. A couple of months ago I was able to run wamp normaly. Could someone help, pls.

  We have several servers they have public IP's, but work together (one is with Load Balancer, orther with Apache Web server, other with MySQL and so on. Most of the ports are fire-walled, so only "local" servers can be connect there. However ALL servers have some ports that must be publicly open. We have SYN Cookies enabled and from time to time we got: possible SYN flooding on port 8080. Sending cookies. Port 8080 is not public. How we can switch OFF SYN Cookies for some ports (e.g. 8080, 3306 etc) or from some sources (e.g. our servers), but in same time SYN Cookies to be switched ON for all other ports, e.g. port 80. We found this similar problem, except our servers are with public IP's: SYN cookies on internal machines

• Problem communicating with one machine in my domain

  Context: 3 HyperV guest images (DC, SQL, MOSS) 1 internal network 1 domain (PJM.COM) DC: 192.168.0.192 SQL: 192.168.0.153 MOSS:192.168.0.160 I am having communication problems from/to the MOSS machine from the other two. I removed the MOSS machine from the domain and cannot rejoin. When I ping the MOSS machine from DC, I get the following response: Pinging MOSS [192.168.0.152] Reply from 192.168.0.192 Destination host unreachable (4 times) When I ping the MOSS machine from SQL, I get the following response: Pinging MOSS [192.168.0.152] Reply from 192.168.0.153 Destination host unreachable (4 times) From the MOSS machine, I can ping the server names, however I cannot ping the FQDN. When I ping from the DC and SQL machines, I get IPv4 addresses. When I ping from the MOSS machine, I get IPv6 addresses. I'm a developer and don't know what steps to take to resolve this issue.   Does anyone know of a Firefox plugin that would enable tab-completion (or some other key sequence like Alt-L) of items in drop-down lists in web forms? e.g. ou<TAB>in<TAB>s<TAB> for 'OurCompany - Internal Support' Vimperator's hints mode makes it very ergonomic to focus the drop-down list with a key sequence like f13 but the keyboard interface to the drop-down list still sucks. I very frequently have to pick items from a very long list with very long common prefixes among the entries (e.g. 30-40 starting with OurCompany -), which renders both the built-in keyboard interface and the mouse pretty slow and unergonomic. I basically want readline support for filling webforms!

• Will SSD degrade when running VMWare Workstation from SSD?

  My main OS (Windows 7 or 8) is runned from SSD. I'd want to run Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.8 using VMWare workstation. I've heard that VMWare doesn't support TRIM and other things to optimize SSD usage. So SSD will quickly degrade if VM will be runned from SSD. Will it be better to put guest OS's files (.vmdk and the rest) to external HDD (connected through USB 2 or 3) instead of SSD? What advantages and disadvantages it will give? What if VM will be put to internal HDD? At what drive type performance of VM will be better?

• Re-cased my computer now the power plug keeps shorting

  I've just re-cased my computer. I got the new case free and thought I'd be able to swap everything over myself but apparently I've done something wrong. I'm OK with components generally but wasn't totally confident about doing this. So, my question is, when setting up a new PC or moving old components into a new case, what could I have done which causes the power cable plug to short/fuse when I plug it in?. Is this likely to be an issue with the cables from my PSU, or could it be the internal case connectors? What steps would you take to diagnose the problem? • How is the Trac Project List page customised?

  We've been using Trac for a while now for our developers only. However we are now opening it up for our (internal) clients. We have a project listing page (based on the default one that comes with Trac). What we'd like to do, is display more information about the project than what is currently available. I have searched google and here, to see if I can find how to get more information. There seems to be a variable called $project which has .name, .description and .href as attributes. Is there somewhere, a list of the attributes available? Or perhaps a different solution altogether that will allow us to display more information on the project list page. Such as the number of open tickets etc.

• IIS6 can't find site on local network

  I have a windows 2003 server with dual NICs running IIS6. I can access everything remotely, but the internal network can't seem to find the site regardless of which IP Address I try to go to. There are really several weird things that are happening here, but I'm going to limit this question to what I'm guessing to be the simplest problem (the solution to which I'm hoping solves other things as well): From the server itself, I can access the webpage using the primary IP address (i.e. http://192.168.1.2/index.htm), but not using the secondary IP address (i.e. http://10.10.10.2/index.htm). Self pinging both IP addresses works, and the "Web site identification" in IIS has the IP address set to "(All Unassigned)"... which I believe should bind both IP addresses to this site. I apologize if I'm not providing enough details about my setup, but at this point I don't even know what's relevant...

• Setting up a copy of a site with IIS 7?

  I have a site running on IIS with a dyndns.org domain that points to the IP of the Windows 2008 machine hosting it. I need a copy of that site for development purposes. I set up another folder with all the files, and create a new site in IIS. I don't really have a domain for it, so I was just going to use the IP address. When I go to localhost, 127.0.0.1, or the internal IP, I get bad hostname. If I use the IP address on port 80 (the same as the real version of the site), I get 404 not found. If I use a different port so I don't have them both on the same IP with the same port, I get connection timed out. How do I go about setting this up?

• JBoss behind NAT hostname problem

  My company has a JBoss cluster sitting behind a firewall that performs NAT. We forward ports to JBoss from the firewall, so that our client application can access the server. We are having trouble when JBoss replies it tells the clients to connect to the internal hostname, not the external one with which the initial connection was made. Is this something that is easily resolved/configured? How are other JBoss app servers configured behind NAT firewalls? Split-horizon DNS? Many Thanks

• Exchange and external mail server

  Hi, We have our domain hosted externally with Network Solutions, and our mail server is running from there. We have a branch office in Bahrain and have 3 users who would like to use their email addresses on a local exchange server running at the Bahrain office. The Exchange server is currently only used for internal mail,contacts and calendaring. I've used a third=party program to download the POP3 mail to their exchange accounts. so they can receive mail from outside. The issue is in sending mail using their external addresses. I've setup their exchange accounts to include their external address. But we get an error message stating that the IP is not authorized. I tried putting the local ISP as the smart host, but then we get an error message stating that the Address was rejected. I tried using our own external mail server as the smart host, but then the message "Relaying is denied" comes up. Any suggestions? Thanks Arun

• Possible to redirect from HTTPS to HTTP behind load-balancer?

  I have a basic ASP.NET application that sits behind an F5 load-balancer. Incoming SSL requests (over HTTPS) terminate at the load-balancer and all internal communication between the load-balancer and my application servers is unsecure (over HTTP). When a unsecure request comes in, my app is able to use Response.Redirect("https://...") to redirect a secure URL with no problems. However, the other direction appears to be impossible - I cannot redirect from HTTPS to HTTP using Response.Redirect() from my application. The URL remains HTTPS for the client and does not change. Could the F5 be preventing the redirect for ever reaching the client? Is there any special configuration necessary to let this happen?

• Is Apache ReverseProxy to Passenger Standalone an acceptable production deployment?

  I have the need to deploy Rails 3 apps, using RVM and gemsets, and am expecting “public” traffic (i.e. this is not an internal-only app). I also must use Apache as the public interface to my app. I understand that Passenger Standalone can help accomplish the rails/RVM end, and I have successfully set it up in my development environment. My question is how viable this setup is for a production deployment. Is deploying via Apache configured to ReverseProxy to my passenger-powered Rails app going to create problems? Since I'm designing the production deployment now, I want to understand if I should spend the additional time to set up Passenger connected to Apache and have that Passenger communicate with Passenger Standalone instance running my Rails app. So, I'm looking for one of I guess three answers: Apache Reverse Proxy to Passenger Standalone will be generally fine You should not use the Apache/Passenger Standalone configuration, but set up Passenger on the Apache side as well Your entire setup is just Wrong, please RTFM (and include link to "FM")

• Setting Rails up on a Linode - Nginx Issue

  I am extremely new to this so please don't shoot me down: I have set up a Linode running Ubuntu, It is all sort of working except Nginx. I am following this guide: http://rubysource.com/deploying-a-rails-application/ And this for nginx: http://library.linode.com/web-servers/nginx/installation/ubuntu-10.04-lucid When I go to my IP, I get a 500 internal server error. I have tried starting nginx and it looks like it starts fine. I run this: ps awx | grep nginx and I get: 308 ? Ss 0:00 nginx: master process /usr/sbin/nginx 2309 ? S 0:00 nginx: worker process 2311 ? S 0:00 nginx: worker process 2312 ? S 0:00 nginx: worker process 2313 ? S 0:00 nginx: worker process 2850 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto nginx I really am not sure what else to do to get it running. • Extend university wifi network

  i live in a university campus and i can get wifi signal on the outside of my window but not in the house. The solution i use at the moment is a usb wifi dongle outside connected to my laptop but the lack of an internal antenna make the connection quite unreliable at times. So i was trying to find another solution to improve the reception of my network. One idea is to setup a router on the outside (in a place with stronger signal) and redirect the connection inside the house with an ethernet cable but the problem is that our Uni Wifi is managed by a capitve portal (BlueSocket with DNS redirection to login page) and the authentication has to happen on the mac address that connect to the net (so the client appliance in this case). If I use a router with Mac-Clone capability i will be able to be redirected trough the captive portal on my laptop computer and login from there or i need to setup my router to fill in the login page by itself? There are other hardware/software solutions i can use to get what i want?

• Is possible to load Windows 7 from the eSATA drive, even if it's not supported in BIOS?

  I'm using a laptop which has eSATA connection. I would like to install Windows 7 on the external disk (to have it completely separated from the OS on the internal hdd). According to the manufacturer, booting from eSATA drive won't be possible. I've checked the BIOS settings and it appears to be correct - eSATA is not even listed in the boot sequence. I'm wondering if there can be any workaround to that limitation, for example starting a custom bootloader on the USB pendrive, just to boot Windows 7 on the eSATA drive.

• Is it possible to edit a PDF file directly?

  I have a PDF file that is produced as part of a help file compilation. There is always late breaking stuff which goes into a text file (e.g. "What's new in this version" type of stuff) and while Help and Manual allows you to include stuff from a text file it only works for the CHM output and not for the PDF. I'm wondering if I can do it by generating a unique placeholder string instead and then using some tool (I may need to write one) to do a search and replace of that unique string with the contents of the late breaking info text file. Is this feasible? Or will it break some sort of internal structure?

• IIS configuration to publish files

  I have a web service that will save a file that will be published externally through IIS. The idea was to use Webdav to save the file, but that would mean that the file could be altered externally as well. The idea is to have 2 website on the IIS server that I publish the file from. One site http://internalpublish.local/vfolder where vfolder points to a file share where the file would be saved through webdav. The other site would be http://externalpublish.com/vfolder where vfolder points to the same physical folder as on the internal site, but webdav is NOT enabled on this site. • Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2003

  We've had some issues with a user who has upgraded to Outlook 2010 and attached to an internal Exchange 2003 SP2 server. They get errors more or less saying cannot send, contact your administrator and then a long error string whenever attempting to send. They receive just fine - but can't get any outbound flow. We recreate the users profile on another Windows 7 machine with Outlook 2010 and it worked fine. Concerned this might be an issue that rears it's ugly head later or at some random time. We noted some KB docs about the issue recommending registry changes - we've reviewed and ensure these changes were made and still have the issue on the one machine. Any thoughts?

• When should .local be used?

  So, I've set up a few Win Servs in my time and always did the .local thing when there was a router that sepearated my internal from external networks. Now that I'm setting up an *nix box for the first time, does this concept still apply? Do I still want my FQDNs (/etc/hostname) to show .local or .com for all my machines (mixed: linux servers, win workstations) inside of my network. This question comes in context of always having Active Directory hold my hand every step of the way, where now I'm setting up an DNS machine manually.

• Could not use domain name instead of static IP

  Hi, I'm working with some partners in the UK. My office is in Vietnam. We are having a network problem: My partner can access an internal website using the domain name, e.g. http://website.name, but I can only access that website using the direct IP, e.g. 192.168.1.85. I can not ping that web server using "ping website.name" but it works if I using "ping 192.168.1.85". I want to use the domain name. Please help.

• External speakers no longer working

  We have a Windows Vista laptop. On Monday we hooked it up to external speakers, as we always do, and they worked fine. On Tuesday, we did the same but then the speakers did not work. Weirdly, the laptop internal speaker does work. Nothing was changed between Monday and Tuesday. What happened and, more importantly, how can it be fixed? BTW we tested with other speakers (and cable) and that didn't help. So it seems like a laptop issue.

• My hard disk does't get recognized

  For a few days now I have a problem with my 500GB internal hard disk. I am on Linux Mint 13 but I have the same problem with my Windows installation. When running fdisk -l I can see my hard disk (same on BIOS) but I can't mount it even via the disk utility program. In Windows XP I can see it on the My Computer menu but when I click it, it say's: D:\ is not accessible The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable Is there a way to fix it? Or at least save some of my files and format it? Should I be thinking about the worst-case scenario e.g. my HDD is dead? Edit: The filesystem is NTFS.
