• Checkout Control Panel that updates pricing???

  Hello all, my first post here. I am not much of a programmer, I can tailor some things for my personal needs but thats about it. I am looking for a script (jQuery preferred I suppose) which is easy to incorporate and bind to a few DIVs to be updated dynamically. Nothing too deep, just something that can updated price at check-out... Could I get some recommendations on a solid and simple widget for this? I appreciate any help/suggestions!

  I am a regex newbie and can't seem to figure this one out. Here is a link to the required string formats: http://earth.gov.bc.ca/royp-bin/phcgi.exe?PH_QKC=DOCUWI&PH_APP=RMSprodApp&PH_HTML=DOCUWI.htm For example: 100041506421W500 = 1+0+{01-16}+{01-36}+{001-129}+{01-36}+W+{1-6}+0+{0-9} I tried this: ^10[0|2-9]{1}0*([1-9]|1[0-6])0*([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[0-6])0*([1-9][0-9]|1[0-2][0-9])0*([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[0-6])W[1-6]0[0-9]$ In a regex validator and it sort of works except that 1041506421W500 and 10000000041506421W500 validates. The entire string can only be 16 characters long. I am pretty sure I am missing something obvious here regarding the leading zeros. Tried the NTS format and running into the same sort of problems.

• Should I start with Trac 0.12 ?

  I'm going to start using Trac for the first time. From what I've gathered, the latest 0.12 is capable of supporting multiple project easily (which is something I will need since I got about 5 projects). However, it seems 0.12 is still in the development (0.12-dev). So, my question is, is it good enough for a newbie in Trac like me to use it? Does anyone has any experience using it ? It will be installed on a Linux server. BTW, I'll only be using the basic functions such as svn browser, wiki, tickets and others.

• How to convince a colleague that code duplication is bad?

  A colleague of mine was implementing a new feature in a project we work on together and he did it by taking a file containing the implementation of a similar feature from the same project, creating a copy of it renaming all the global declarations and slightly modifying the implementation. So we ended up with two large files that are almost identical apart from renaming. I tried to explain that it makes our project more difficult to maintain but he doesn't want to change anything saying that it is easier for him to program in such way and that there is no reason to fix the code if it "ain't broke". How can I convince him that such code duplication is a bad thing? It is related to this questions, but I am more interested in the answers targeted to a technical person (another programmer), for example a reference to an authoritative source like a book would be great. I have already tried simple arguments and haven't succeeded.

• How to Call methods I see in a wsdl file someone linked me to?

  Hi all, I am not a Java programmer by trade. C and Fortran mostly. However, I have this one-off project someone wants done. Connect to some web-based database and retrieve some data from it. I asked around, and someone finally linked me to a WSDL page. I click on this link, and I see a huge XML looking file. If I am writing a stand-alone java application, how do I go about calling these (promising looking) method names that I see in the wsdl. You know "getCoordinates" is there, but i have no idea how to call that method. After googling, I am finding a lot of different ways, and I am not sure what is the best way for my simple application. • How do I do import hooks in IronPython/Silverlight?

  I'm extending TryPython to (along with various other things) allow users to save a file and subsequently import that file. TryPython overloads the built in file operations, so I need to know what parts of import need to hooked into in order for import to use the overloaded file operations. Really, a basic overview of IronPython's import when used in Silverlight would be extremely helpful. I don't need a complete working solution (although I won't stop you from writing one! :). I'm a Python newbie, and I really have no idea where to even begin. Thanks!

  Hi I am a newbie on mono. I need to develop a software with it as a Grad Project. But I am having a problem on installing mono.I will go step by step : I dowloaded “mono-3.2.3-gtksharp-2.12.11-win32-0” from mono-project.com.And ran the installation process. -But I faced a problem on testing on mono command prompt. • Clojure for a lisp illiterate

  I am a lifelong object-oriented programmer. My job is primarily java development, but I have experience in a number of languages. Ruby gave me my first real taste of functional programming. I loved the features Ruby borrowed from the functional paradigm such as closures and continuations. Eventually, I graduated to Scala. This has been a great way to gradually learn to approach non-trivial problems in a functional manner. Now I am interested in Clojure. I know all the sexy features that make it enticing (software transactional memory, macros, etc.), but I just can't get used to "thinking in lisp". I've seen Rich Hickey's screencasts aimed at java programmers, but they are geared towards explaining language features and not approaching real world problems. I am looking for any advice or resources which have made this transition easier for others.

• Creation of database in Oracle

  Hello, I am a newbie to Oracle, and I have used MySQL for most of the time. So now for testing scripts, I was just planning to create a database, but from the resources I have found on google, it doesn't look as simple it is maybe in mysql or in sqlserver. I just need to create a database, say "CREATE DATABASE TESTDB";. That is it, but of the resources I have found, it seems I need to create an instance identifier, decide an authentication method, create an initialization file etc. Do I really have to do all this or am I using the wrong resources. I just need to create a database and add a few tables into it, just to check my connection string etc. I need to check if I am able to connect to my web server.

  Hello. I'm PHP-programmer, but I'm extremely interested in learning Java. So I decided to change speciality from PHP to Java. At the moment I have an opportunity to try to make quite simple web-application (it should contain 2-3 forms, several pages with information from the database and authorization module) and also I have a chance to choose any technology I want. Besides I have about 3 months for this task. I've decided to develop site with Java technologies for the purpose of studying. I've already read a book about Java ("Java2 Complete Reference" by P.Naughton) and currently I'm reading "Thinking in Java" by B.Eckel. I clearly understand it's not enough for efficient development, but I want, at least, to try. I would be very appreciated for the advises, which framework (for example) or technology to choose (Spring, Grails etc.) and what primary aspects and technologies of Java should I pay attention to?   Hi, I'm bit of a newbie and had a basic question regarding adhering to the MVC model in iPhone coding. How do I setup a Model class that holds my data and connect it to different controllers in the following setup: Using Interface Builder, I created a tab controller in which - Tab #1 has a Nav Controller and a hierarchy of View Controllers. - Tab #2 has a View Controller So with what I have now, the View Controller under Tab #1 alloc init's the model class and I know how to pass the model from one ViewController to the next in the Navigation Hierarchy where it can pass the data and/or be updated with new data. Question is how to pass it from Tab #1's View Controller to Tab #2 View Controller as there is no code linking the two??? Thanks in advance, Hiren.

  I am looking into using a wiki (prefer mediawiki, but not a req.) as the repository for developer generated documentation (User Guides, Release Notes, Application Notes, Errata, etc.) from a collaborative/easy-to-update point of view a wiki seems like a good match, however since this documentation will ultimately ship to customers we want to be able to export the documents in their final state (e.g. during the release cycle) to static versions that no longer include histories. Ideally the export would leave the document n a form where errors could be easily fixed by a non-programmer It would be good if niceties like section ordering and table of contents were available, or easy to add after the fact. Are any tools with features like these avalible?

• What's the silliest programming mistake you've ever done? [closed]

  Despite not being a professional programmer, i use python or c to accomplish simple tasks. Once I needed a nasty equation to use with various data for physics lab. I thought that it would take a few hours if i used some mechanic calculator. Then i've written a python script to make things easier but something was wrong. After finding my mistakes one of which was forgetting to put ":", i realized that it had already took 2-3 hours, not to mention inventing satanic arithmetic techniques since i thought the errors was caused by my math :) Sometimes when you don't see it, you don't see it! Now i can find the syntax errors without thinking for a moment :) Any similar annoying mistakes that you've experienced?

  i have recently purchased an AVR USB programmer from robokits.co.in, was trying to program atmeg8 using AVR studio4 and i get the following when i click on the program options: a problem occurred when executing the command. make sure u are using the correct programming method. current mode is ISP verify that the device is placed in the correct socket, and that the ISP cable is connected properly.check that the programming frequency specified in the main page is well below 1/4th of the clock frequency of the device. i have tried all that i could think of, i have checked the connections and the freq is below 1/4th of the device. but that doesn't solve this problem i have made the circuit for blinking LEDs program please help me out see the image for details thanking you

• Learning C++ from AS3

  I'm a decent AS3 programmer. I work in games, and that is my reason for programming. While there is much I can accomplish with Adobe AIR, my understanding at this point is that learning C++ is probably a good direction to take. I would learn a lot of valuable lower level programming if I needed it down the road, and I would have an easier time learning other C oriented languages. I see a lot of information for people looking to learn AS3 who know C++, but not the other way around. Why C++? Cross platform compatibility is important to me, so I'm not particularly interested in C# or Objective-C at this junction. I'm also aware of HaXe, and while I love the concept, after doing some research I'm worried about investing a lot of time into something so recent with limited learning resources and documentation. I'm looking for advice and resources (books, articles) related to this topic. Thanks in advance!

• How do I secure password parameters in RESTful web service URIs?

  i'm a newbie to server-side programming, so please forgive me if this gets messy. i've been contracted to create a web service to allow authenticated users to access a database. users have to enter a login and password. been reading and reading about REST vs SOAP, and i thought i'd settled on a RESTful design when i came across this statement: "Data that needs to be secure should not be sent as parameters in URIs." this seems like a major demerit against a RESTful approach. i'm aware that with https the password would be encrypted to prevent man-in-the-middle interception, but that leaves the server logs and client history as possible exposure points. is there a RESTful solution out there for this problem, or do i need to go SOAPy? any advice appreciated.

• Getting a NullReferenceException Error when invoking a Select File Dialog Box

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement. • Show a modal right after signup?

  When a user signup at my page I want them to be redirected to the root_path(this I have figured out how to do in the user controller). But then I want a modal to show in front of this page(and this should only happen the first time the user see this root/home page(like a flash message). Here is my create method in the user controller: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save sign_in @user redirect_to root_path else render 'new' end end The modal is placed in app/views/layouts/_modal.html.erb. Does anybody know how to make this happen? (Jepp, I am a newbie :)

  As a very novice Java programmer, I probably should not mess with that kind of things. Unfortunately, I'm using a library which have a method that accepts a ByteBuffer object and throws when I try to use it: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException: Unable to retrieve native address from ByteBuffer object Is it because I'm not using a non-direct buffer? edit: There's not a lot of my code there. The library I'm using is jNetPcap, and I'm trying to dump a packet to file. My code takes an existing packet, and extract a ByteBuffer out of it: byte[] bytes = m_packet.getByteArray(0, m_packet.size()); ByteBuffer buffer = ByteBuffer.wrap(bytes); Then it calls on of the dump methods of jNetPcap that takes a ByteBuffer.

• Making a web interface for neo4j

  I have a local neo4j database server and I want to build a web interface using javascript. Ideally I want to do all the querying and display the result client side for the website. I am mostly a Java programmer and unfortunately don't have much experience with Javascript. How can I do a cypher query from the website and return the result in a format which I can display easily in a table for example? I have seen examples of doing the querying server side with servlets or node.js but really would like to just have the neo4j server and the website client. I would be interesting in seeing a small working example if it is at all possible. Thanks for your time.
