  • Easiest way to get an NSDate representation of "the next 7am that will occur" in Cocoa?

    I figure I can achieve what I want by using NSCalendar and NSDateComponents, but that would run something like the following: Get "now" Create an NSDateComponents from "now". If "now" is pre-7am, then use today's date. If "now" is post-7am, use tomorrow's date. If today is the last day of the month, increase month, set day to 1. If it was December, increase year by 1 also. Set hour, minute, second. Create a new NSDate. It all seems very long-winded, but that appears to be what other answers on here suggest, and the documentation doesn't offer any clues. I'm going back and forth between all the date and calendar classes I can find. Is there a simple way to ask for the "next occurring 7am" ? Thanks.

  • Effect of 'myObj = [[[[MyClass alloc] init] autorelease] retain];'?

    I've just downloaded the Facebook iOS SDK and I noticed that in the sample code that comes with the SDK whenever it creates an instance of the Facebook class it does it like this: _facebook = [[[[Facebook alloc] init] autorelease] retain]; where _facebook is a member variable of the calling object (i.e. not a local variable). Can anyone explain exactly what's the point of autoreleasing and then retaining it?

  • Upgraded to Xcode 4 -- Endless stream of duplicate symbol errors causing build errors

    Everything was working perfectly fine in Xcode 3 yesterday before I upgraded. So I completed the upgrade, restarted my computer, and opened my old project. I had to reconfigure a few settings like the header paths so that I could begin to compile. I'm using AdWhirl for ad mediation, and at this point my errors begin to read something like duplicate symbol _OBJC_METACLASS_$_SBJSON in /Users/Admin/Desktop/TMapLiteAdwhirl/AdWhirl/MMSDK/libMMSDK.a(SBJSON.o) and /Users/Admin/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/TruxMapLite-bgpylibztethnlhkfkdumpvrjvgy/Build/Intermediates/TruxMapLite.build/Debug-iphoneos/TruxMapLite.build/Objects-normal/armv6/SBJSON.o for architecture armv6 The library it's referring to is the SDK for one of the ad networks I'm including in AdWhirl. Both of the 'duplicate symbols' refer to the SAME FILE, but they use different paths. If I had still had XCode 3, I would simply try excluding these libraries from the build path, but I have no idea how that can be done in Xcode 4. I've tried everything all the way down to deleting the library and all associated files from my project, but when I do this, i will simply get the same type of error for a different library in the AdWhirl directory. This is incredibly frustrating because before my upgrade everything was working smoothly and I was prepared to submit my binary. If anyone has any advice, id be more than happy to give it a try.   • UISearchBar in UINavigationBar with ScopeBar

    I am trying to put a UISearchBar inside of the UINavigationBar, which I am able to do without much problem. The problem is that I have logic when editing to show the Scope Bar. This all works fine, with one exception. The navigation bar tries to center the UISearchBar inside of the title view. This causes the search bar to move up above the navigation bar. I tried adding some logic to set the frame of the search bar so that it just draws overtop of my main view, which is fine. I can only set the height, which causes the search bar to draw over the view just fine, but it isn't wide enough to cover the whole screen. If I set the width on the frame, it goes back to the same behavior of trying to center the UISearchBar on the navigation bar. Anyone know how I can accomplish this? Thanks, Nick

    I’ve just started developing for iPhone and am trying to get my head around memory management. I made a small program that shows a map and an annotation on the map. For the annotation I made a simple class that implements the MKAnnotation protocol. To create and add the annotation I wrote this: [self.myMapView addAnnotation:[[MyAnnotation alloc] init]]; It worked fine until I tried to release the object. Nothing to release. This is what I would have done in C#, I guess it doesn’t work without garbage collection? So is this the only way to do it?   • How to specify number of headers in section UITableView.

Could this possibly be because I did not specify the number of headers? This would naturally be a single header for every letter in the alphabet.

  • UITableView loading before variables being set

    I have a label on a UITableView. When clicked it will refresh my tableview and set the top cell's height. When I am setting the cell height, I am checking if a certain variable is TRUE. If true it will show the large height, if false, the smaller height. At the time of cell height creation, my variable is always false. It is a member variable and its value is being set when the user clicks on the label. How can I make sure that the variable is set before the table refreshes?

  • UIButton custom font vertical alignment

    I've got a UIButton which uses a custom font, which is set when my view loads: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.searchButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName: @"FONTNAME" size: 15.0 ]; } The problem I've got is that the font is appearing to float up of the center line. If I comment out this line, the default font appears vertically centered fine. But changing to the custom font breaks the vertical alignment. I'm getting the same issue on a Table Cell with a custom font too. Do I need to tell the view somewhere that the custom font is not as tall as other fonts? EDIT: I've just realized that the font I'm using is a Windows TrueType Font. I can use it fine in TextEdit on the Mac, only a problem with the alignment in my App

    I just want to clear this up once and for all, is it ok to subclass a UIWebView? Will I ever have to be nervous about apple rejecting the app because of a UIWebView subclass? The documentation states: Subclassing Notes The UIWebView class should not be subclassed. But at the same time Apple contradicts itself with this WWDC video: https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2011/?id=511#rich-text-editing-in-safari-on-ios In slide 41 they specifically talk about subclassing a UIWebView Thanks in advance!

    I am trying to set a fetch request with a predicate to obtain records in the store whose identifiers attribute match an array of identifiers specified in the predicate e.g. NSString *predicateString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"identifier IN %@", employeeIDsArray]; The employeeIDsArray contains a number of NSNumber objects that match IDs in the store. However, I get an error "Unable to parse the format string". This type of predicate works if it is used for filtering an array, but as mentioned, fails for a core data fetch. How should I set the predicate please?

    The idea it's very easy, i have an http download class, this class must support the http authentication but it's basically a background thread so i would like to avoid to prompt directly to the screen, i would like to use a delegate method to require from outside of the class, like a viewController. While retrieving the content of link tag, i am able to retrieve only half of the url and the string after & cannot be retrieved. I want to retrieve the full url so that i can use the url to load in a webview. How can i retrieve the full url ? Please help me out.The parsing is done same as Lazy tables . What am i missing? (I imported MaSystemGuiAppDelegate.h)
