• How do I scrape information off ASP.NET websites when paging and JavaScript links are being used?

  I have been given a staff list which is supposed to be up to date but it doesn't match an intranet People Finder which is written in ASP.NET. As the information is sensitive I am not able to access the database the People Finder is using so the only way I can get at the information is by scraping the structure starting at the top brass at the top and then going through each tier in turn. Each person has a Staff number which then forms the URL http://intranet/peoplefinder/index.aspx?srn=ABC1234 and then all the people who report to them are listed underneth in the format <a id="gvEmployees_ctl03_lnkFullName" href="index.aspx?srn=ABC4321" target="_self"> where each URL indicates the Staff number and provides a link to their team. The trouble arises when the teams are big as paging is implemented in the GridView with an URL such as <a href="javascript:__doPostBack('gvEmployees','Page$2')">2</a>. How would I scrape this page, capture the SRN and other details along with the people who report to the person on all pages of the GridView then loop through each reportee and do the same process until the whole list is complete?

In cases which do have realistic answers, I've been voting up the best. Even if I combine the best answers into a better one, the questioners aren't upvoting, accepting or closing the questions anyway.

  Hi everyone , In my view this is one of the strangest problem i have ever come across in iPhone app development. Let me explain the scenario , i have main screen 'A' on which i have a Button that directs me to another Screen say 'B'. Now on Screen 'B' i have a feature in which user can send a mail to his friend for promotion purpose e.g a user wishes to tell a frnd about this app so i used MFMailComposeViewController and a view is generated where the user types the address and click send ( subject and body of mail is automatically generated ). After sending the mail a new view opens say screen 'C' and here i want to give the user the options . 1. Go to Screen 'A' ( which is main screen of the app ) 2. Go back to Screen 'B' ( from where the user requested to send a mail to his frnd ). Now the strange part i cannot declare the variables ( Screen 'A' and 'B' ) of both these files here at in header file of screen 'C' . Even when i declare the header file at the top it generates an error. The variables can be easily be declared and used for other screens but not for these 2 screens. • jQuery scrollTo plugin to scroll screen to div wouldn't work, why?

  Hi all: I am working on a web application, whose mock-up page can now be found at: our server If you click on the blue title "step1" and then choose the option of "delivery to address", a form will show up using jQuery ajax load. No problem for this. Click on the "venue" radio button will take you to another form, no problem for this as well. If you scroll down a bit, you can see a textarea, top of that you can see a link called "what's this?". Click on it and the textarea shall be filled with sample words. The problem is, after clicking on the link, the webpage automatically scrolls to the top section. What I want is to keep the textarea to the center of screen after link is clicked. I am trying to use a jQuery plugin called "scrollTo", which can be found here From its demo page I can tell is what I want. • Is it dangerous to set off an autoreleased NSOperationQueue?

  I have a task that takes a rather long time and should run in the background. According to the documentation, this can be done using an NSOperationQueue. However, I do not want to keep a class-global copy of the NSOperationQueue since I really only use it for that one task. Hence, I just set it to autorelease and hope that it won't get released before the task is done. It works. like this: NSInvocationOperation *theTask = [NSInvocationOperation alloc]; theTask = [theTask initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(doTask:) object:nil]; NSOperationQueue *operationQueue = [[NSOperationQueue new] autorelease]; [operationQueue addOperation:theTask]; [theTask release]; I am kind of worried, though. Is this guaranteed to work? Or might operationQueue get deallocated at some point and take theTask with it?

• Open XML SDK 2.0 - Split table to new power point slide when content flows off current slide

  I have a bunch of data that I need to export from a website to a power point presentation and have been using Open XML SDK 2.0 to perform this task. I have a power point presentation that I am putting through Open XML SDK 2.0 Productivity Tool to generate the template code that I can use to recreate the export. On one of those slides I have a table and the requirement is to add data to that table and break that table across multiple slides if the table exceeds the bottom of the slide. The approach I have taken is to determine the height of the table and if it exceeds the height of the slide, move that new content into the next slide. I have read Bryan and Jones blog on adding repeating data to a power point slide, but my scenario is a little different. They use the following code: A.Table tbl = current.Slide.Descendants<A.Table>().First(); A.TableRow tr = new A.TableRow(); tr.Height = heightInEmu; tr.Append(CreateDrawingCell(imageRel + imageRelId)); tr.Append(CreateTextCell(category)); tr.Append(CreateTextCell(subcategory)); tr.Append(CreateTextCell(model)); tr.Append(CreateTextCell(price.ToString())); tbl.Append(tr); imageRelId++; This won't work for me since they know what height to set the table row to since it will be the height of the image, but when adding in different amounts of text I do not know the height ahead of time so I just set tr.Heightto a default value. I have also tried accessing the height of the largest table cell in the row, but can't seem to find the right property to perform that task. My question is how do you determine the height of a dynamically added table row since it doesn't seem to update the height of the row until it is opened in power point? Any other ways to determine when to split content to another slide while using Open XML SDK 2.0? I'm open to any suggestion on a better approach someone might have taken since there isn't much documentation on this subject.

TrackHistory has each track added to it as a row whenever it is played ie. a track will appear in there many times. Ratings value will either be 1 or -1. What I'm trying to do is select the Track with the highest rating, that is more than 2 hours old, and if there is a duplicate rating for a track (ie a track receives 6 +1 ratings and 1 - rating, giving that track a total rating of 5, another track also has a total rating of 5), the track that was last played the longest ago should be returned. (If all tracks have been played within the last 2 hours, no rows should be returned) I'm getting somewhere doing each part individually using the link above, SUM(Value) and GROUP BY Track_Id, but I'm having trouble putting it all together. Hopefully someone with a bit more (MS)SQL knowledge will be able to help me. Many thanks!

• In Rails: How can I turn off caching for a particular activerecord database table?

  I have an associative table (scripts_runs) (has_many, through) that carries a status column ('started', 'ready to parse', 'completed' ). The started and ready to parse states are signaled by 'flag' files from distributed executions of the scripts pickedup periodically (20 seconds). The completed status is written directly to the associative table by the parser when it is done. With short scripts the complete status is written before the ready to parse flag file is picked up. Because the row from the table is cached, the complete status is not seen by the observer for the flag files and gets overwritten by the ready to parse status. This is not good. I need the status to be updated in the database in the correct sequence so an Ajax periodic query can inform the user of the status of each script and when the run ( consisting of one to many scripts ) is completed. Can I force the ScriptRun.find(:id) to always go to the database? If so how? If not, why not???

  I have a text in an email on a windows box that looks something like this: 100 some random text 101 some more random text 102 lots of random text, all different 103 lots of random text, all the same I want to extract the numbers, i.e. the first word on each line. I've got a terminal running bash open on my Linux box... If these were in a text file, I would do this: awk '{print $1}' mytextfile.txt I would like to paste these in, and get my numbers out, without creating a temp file. my naive first attempt looked like this: $ awk '{print $1}' 100 some random text 100 101 some more random text 101 102 lots of random text, all different 103 lots of random text, all the same 102 103 The buffering of stdin and stdout make a hash of this. I wouldn't mind if stdin all printed first, followed by all of stdout; this is what would happen if I were to paste into 'sort' for example, but awk and sed are a different story. a little more thought gave me this: open two terminals. Create a fifo file. Read from the fifo on one terminal, write to it on another. This does in fact work, but I'm lazy. I don't want to open a second terminal. Is there a way in the shell that I can hide the text echoed to the screen when I'm passing it in to a pipe, so that I paste this: 100 some random text 101 some more random text 102 lots of random text, all different 103 lots of random text, all the same but see this? $ awk '{print $1}' 100 101 102 103

  I submitted my app a little over a week ago and got the dreaded rejection email today. It reads as follows: Dear -----------, Thank you for submitting --------- to the App Store. Unfortunately it cannot be added to the App Store because it is using a private API. Use of non-public APIs, which as outlined in the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement section 3.3.1 is prohibited: "3.3.1 Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs." • Sending an email with browser capabilities and screen size etc.

  A lot of my visitors are blind (with it being a site for the blind), and often when trying to diagnose problems, I'd like to know what version of browser etc they're using, whether flash is installed. Because more often than not, someone will swear they are using X, when in fact Y is installed. Currently, I'm using http://jsbrwsniff.sourceforge.net/usage.html piped into an email, but I've got 2 problems here: First of all, jsbrwsniff is quite "heavy" and hasn't been updated since early 2007, so there's a lot of -1's in the result. Secondly, if I call it as follows, the page reloads: <a href="#" onclick="sendEmail()">Email feedback</a> And if I call it like this, the page goes blank and looks like it's trying to infinitely load a blank page: <a href="javascript:sendEmail()">Email feedback</a> See the nightmare for yourself here: http://kingston.talking-newspapers.co.uk/ Now, I know there are 1001 articles and comments here and elsewhere saying "don't use browser sniffers, they can be spoofed (etc)", but honestly, you'll have to trust me that this is a significantly useful tool when you're talking someone in their more "senior years" and using a screenreader through "help about", when they've clicked the wrong window to start with! I'm using jquery anyway in the site, and I'm aware of $jQuery.browser and $jQuery.support, but these don't tell me the elements I need (like whether Flash is installed, and what version etc). I've looked everywhere for a jquery plugin for my needs, with no luck. Finally, if I have to stick to the current method of jsbrwsniff then it's not the end of the world, but if anyone knows a way of launching the user's email client populated with the information I need but WITHOUT refreshing or blanking the page, I'd love to know. BTW - there's a good reason for not using a webform, which is simply because it's easier for the screen-reader user to use an email client they are used to. Thanks!

  I have a flash application written in action script 2, and at one point it makes multiple back-to-back JavaScript requests using getUrl(). They have to be done as separate requests because IE had a limit on the length of a single request, and fails silently if that limit is passed. When ever this happens, if the user has their sound turned on there is a barrage of "click click click".

The information contained in "innerX" does not matter, it merely must be left alone (unless the subhash is to be deleted then it can go away). In the example above after this operation is preformed hash1 would look like: my %hash1 = ( test2 => { inner2 => { more => "charlie", somethingelse => "delta" } }, ); It deletes hash1{test1} and hash1{test3} because they don't match anything in hash2. Here's what I've currently tried, but it doesn't work. Nor is it probably the safest thing to do since I'm looping over the hash while trying to delete from it. However I'm deleting at the each which should be okay? No other .war I deployed does this. The log4j configuration block in the app isn't doing it. Any ideas? I'm using an S3 library for grails that may be the source for these. However when I run this application on my development machine (in both develop and deploy configs), I'm not seeing it.

  I was using a combobox on my search form to select whether to consult or modify a record. To make it more user friendly (IMO), I put a togglebutton on a form, which controls the .AllowEdits property of my form. This way you can easily switch from reading to writing. However I run into a problem; once .AllowEdits is switched to false, the togglebutton is not clickable anymore ! What are my options ?
