• How to kick Jawbone ICON off iPhone to use with Mac

  I've got a Jawbone ICON, which is paired to my PS3, my Macbook Air, and my iPhone 4. Most of the time I'm using it with my Macbook with A2DP. The problem is that when I turn it on, my iPhone automatically connects to it, and hogs the A2DP profile, so then my Mac can't connect to the thing at all. I sort of like this behavior, so my best solution would be if there was some way to "kick" the ICONs connection to my iPhone from my Mac. It's really difficult because I use it alot with my Mac and my iPhone, so I can't delete one of the profiles, and I need to use A2DP on both devices. What are your suggestions on ways to fix this?

  I'm trying to work through this guide to Rails routing, but I got stuck in section 3.3: Creating a RESTful route will also make available a pile of helpers within your application and then they list some helpers like photos_url, photos_path, etc. My questions: Where can I find the complete list of helpers that is "made available?" Is there a way to call the helpers in the console? I created an app, then opened up the console with script/console. I tried to call one of the helpers on the console like this: >> entries_url But got: NameError: undefined local variable or method `entries_url' for #<Object:0x349a4> from (irb):8

  Hello! I'm very new to actionscript 3.0 and flash in general. I'm trying to update a website that someone else did with flash, and am having issues with it. I need a button to link to an outside website, but I keep getting the error "access of undefined property" on my button. • Catch $.getJSON error

  I've been trying to figure this out for hours. I have a DYNAMIC youtube search, which I use Youtube's JSON api for. It works usually, but there are times that it won't find anything. Is there a way to figure out if it finds nothing, and then end the function because otherwise it stops the entire code. I tried jsonp, but that didn't seem to be correct. Somewhere I read that error catching is built into the newest jQuery getJSON, but I couldn't find it. The code is really tedious so I'd rather not post it unless it comes to that. • Eclipse: open file in external editor only temporarily

  Using Eclipse, I can open a Java source file with an external editor by right-clicking on the file name (in the Package Explorer) and selecting Open With ... - emacsclient. I'm very glad to be able to do that. However, I only want to do that sometimes, not every time. Now, when I double-click on that same file name, I always automatically get the file opened in emacsclient. This is particularly annoying when I use the Open Type dialog to find a file, because in that case it's not possible to right-click and choose the default Eclipse editor. Is there a way to make Eclipse forget that I previously opened a particular file with emacsclient, so that it can go back to the default behavior of using the regular Eclipse editor?

  Hi, I need to remove elements from the middle of a std::vector. So I tried: struct IsEven { bool operator()(int ele) { return ele % 2 == 0; } }; int elements[] = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}; std::vector<int> ints(elements, elements+6); std::vector<int>::iterator it = std::remove_if(ints.begin() + 2, ints.begin() + 4, IsEven()); ints.erase(it, ints.end()); After this I would expect that the ints vector have: [1, 2, 3, 5, 6]. In the debugger of Visual studio 2008, after the std::remove_if line, the elements of ints are modified, I'm guessing I'm into some sort of undefined behaviour here. So, how do I remove elements from a Range of a vector?

• Flex 3 / ColdFusion Session Issue?

  Alright so this is an odd one... I have an application built in ColdFusion with a lot of the interactivity done with Flex. When a user logs in, there are session variables, as well as the client session that is evoked. When you browse to any given Flex Application, the variables are read in a used accordingly... however, on Windows (it seems XP and maybe others) for some reason session information like USER are randomly undefined... Could this be an issue with the session timing out? Even if I force a logout and log back in, it doesn't really seem to fix the issue... mind you, I cannot duplicate the bug myself, but it constantly happens on PCs.

• How to stop basic Postfix after-queue script from BCC-ing sender?

  I'm building a content filter for Postfix (2.9.3 package installed via apt on an Ubuntu 12.04 test VM) and I'm starting with a very basic Ruby (1.9.3) template and building up functionality. Strangely, when the script is enabled, messages sent are being forwarded on as normal, but also sent back to the sender which is not normal. Disabling the script disables this behavior. Any suggestions about what I have to change to stop that from happening?   I have a variable called "account_type" passed from a rails form and need to access the value in the corresponding model. I can check if :account_type exists as a symbol, but where does the stored data come into play? Is there something I need to do in the controller? This code gives an undefined method 'account_type' error. validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if account_type == 2 If I use a symbol then it doesn't give an error, but a symbol will never equal 2 validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if :account_type == 2 It's confusing that you can validate the format of a symbol (like :name above) when :name only seems to be a reference with nothing stored in it.   I have a page that opens a modal dialog. After the operations done on dialog I want to refresh the opener page. But when I open the popup by using "openDialog" I cannot access to the opener by using window.opener on popup page. It appears "undefined" when I wanted to access. (I dont want to use "popup" method in this case. I want it to be a dialog by the way. using "popup" is my second plan.) What is the best practice to get rid off this issue?

• KDE doesn't start up anything else

  I just installed KDE under Arch Linux. Problem is, nothing is starting up right with it - no window manager, no panels, nothing. All I get is a small terminal window in the bottom right corner of the screen, which I'm assuming is konsole. From that single window I can do things like start kwin or launch programs whose names I happen to know (like chromium or firefox), but I don't have a panel for starting programs or switching between programs. It doesn't matter whether I start kdm through inittab or manually by typing # /etc/rc.d/kdm start. KDM looks great, but once I log in as my normal user I just get a console window with no decoration. Is there a startup script for KDE somewhere that needs to run, and usually has a bunch of programs by default - like a window manager, panels, widgets, and all the normal background programs that run in an ordinary GUI? If so, how can I "restore" the default behavior?

• Excel - Avoid cell text to be shown onto next empty cell

  When you have text in an Excel cell that is too long to be shown in the visible area of a single cell and the cell next to the first cell (the one on the right) is empty, Excel lets the text to be printed onto the next cell. This is what I want to change. I want to avoid this text overflow. I know I can avoid this by enabling "word wrap" and adjusting row height. But that is not what I want. I want to change the DEFAULT behavior of Excel so it shows the value of each cell only in the visible area of that cell. No overflow, no word wrap. Is this possible? (I am using Excel 2010 by the way)

• Thunderbird-3 keeps on downloading already downloaded messages again?

  I am using Thunderbird for my gmail account, with IMAP settings. All my folders are synchronized. A very strange behavior, after all my mails are downloaded, TB3 starts downloading email again. At times saying "downloading x out of y messages" where x y (like now downloading 19 out of 11 messages). Had the same problem in TB3 for windows so, replaced TB with Outlook-07, issue resolved. But on linux, I dont like the evolution's interface, so i have no choice but to stick to TB. Any suggestions how to TB not eat my bandwidth.

  I have a Ruby class called LibraryItem. I want to associate with every instance of this class an array of attributes. This array is long and looks something like ['title', 'authors', 'location', ...] Note that these attributes are not really supposed to be methods, just a list of attributes that a LibraryItem has. Next, I want to make a subclass of LibraryItem called LibraryBook that has an array of attributes that includes all the attributes of LibraryItem but will also include many more. Eventually I will want several subclasses of LibraryItem each with their own version of the array @attributes but each adding on to LibraryItem's @attributes (e.g., LibraryBook, LibraryDVD, LibraryMap, etc.). So, here is my attempt: class LibraryItem < Object class << self; attr_accessor :attributes; end @attributes = ['title', 'authors', 'location',] end class LibraryBook < LibraryItem @attributes.push('ISBN', 'pages'] end This does not work. • How to quickly start Programs like "regedit.exe" from the Windows 7 search bar using substring match

  The search bar in Windows 7 is very convenient to quickly start applications by pressing the Win-key and then entering the name of the application. For applications with a Program Menu entry like Firefox, it is sufficient to type Fire and Firefox will be displayed in the Programs section of the search results. For other applications like regedit.exe, I have to type the full command regedit before the correct choice regedit.exe appears. Is there any way to have regedit.exe appear already when I have just entered a substring? Please note: I have seen Add my applications to Vista’s Start Search, but I don't want to add anything to the Start Menu manually. This question is about if there is some configuration that can be tuned to make the results appear. I have also seen Search behavior of Windows 7 start menu, but my problem is not that the exe appears under Files, regedit.exe correctly appears under Programs, but it should appear already for a substring match.

• Connecting to a VirtualBox machine from the host, using an ip address

  Hello, In a macbook host, I run VirtualBox having a guest ubuntu server, with a NAT network setting. In the virtual machine application "Parallels", I would get on the host an IP address of the guest, to which I could later set hostnames and access it directly. However, I couldn't find a way to accomplish this using VirtualBox. The only solution VirtualBox has for me, is to set port forwarding, and access "localhost" with these ports. How can I have the desired behavior set up, without having to change to a bridged network settings, and expose my guest computer to the network my host computer is connected to ? Thanks.

• My site was recently attacked. What do I do?

  This is a first for me. One of the sites I run was recently attacked. Not at all an intelligent attack - pure brute force - hit every page and every non-page with every extension possible. Posted with garbage data to every form and tried to post to some random urls too. All tod, 16000 requests in one hour. What should I do to prevent/alert this kind of behavior? Is there a way to limit the request/hr for a given ip/client? Is there a place I should be reporting the user to? They appear to be from China and did leave what seems like a valid e-mail.

• Please recommend tools for PC, browser, home network performance problems?

  My client is experiencing some odd response behavior in their browser for the past few days. Classic, "nothing has changed" so I am starting at ground zero. Browsing a website will timeout or take a ridiculous time to load -- other times, the same site and query is immediately responsive. Once a connection is established, video streams are uninterrupted. The home network hosts a website, but it is not experiencing any activity in Apache's 'access.log' I am using speedtest.net to check if the ISP through the internet is 'OK' -- which looks typical (average +/-). I have to suspect the home network is beaconing or something very abnormal, but I don't know where to start.
