• Nice RSSFeed Control

  Hi, I develope an application in C#.Net 2.0, Windows. The App has a RSS Feed Reader for specific sites (to collect the biggest news). I found a very nice DLL for this in which I can very easy read the RSS. But my problem is the design, I tried a lot, how to display easy, quick and nice, but it sucks like hell, I tried nerly every control in the toolbox and fill it with the RSS Feeds and it looks ugly. So knows anybody a control to display RSS feeds nicly? I know its an copy, but no one answers there.

• how to convert legacy query to ActiveRecord Rails way

  I have a query in my code as below @sqladdpayment = "INSERT INTO payments (orderid, ttlprodcost, paytype, paystatus,created_at,updated_at,userid,storeid) VALUES ('" + session[:ordersid] + "', '" + session[:totalcost] + "', '" + "1"+ "', '" + "complete" +"',current_date, current_date, '"+"1"+"','"+ "1"+"')" Here the table payments and primary key is orderid. Now, I know if I convert this to the ActiveRecord way then I will not have to put update_date, current_date because it will put that on it's own. It will also put orderid on it's own also (auto_increment). I am looking for a way to convert the above query to ActiveRecord Rails way but still be able to put orderid on my own (session[:ordersid]). I do not want to rely on auto_increment because then I will have to refactor lot of the other code. This might be a quick and dirty fix but I want to know whether this type of flexibility is offered in rails? I have wondered about this question many times. Why won't rails allow me to have that flexibility?

• computational puzzles (brute force)

  Not that i need it but it was interesting to hear someone speak about their server and protecting it from DOS attack by having a puzzle that the client must solve before the server will do anything (it doesnt do allocations or make a session unless solved). The person also said puzzles can be made to take a quick amount of time or long. And they are easy to check if it is solve correctly but difficult to solve. What are these puzzles? I never heard of one. Can someone give an example (link?)

• MySQL: host name universal change.

  I am making some updates to a php site which I did not design. I have a local copy of the site. At the top of each page there are settings for the host name for the db connection. Is there someway I can setup a pointer to the remote address. The address is 'mysqlhost' for example and I want that to point to 'mysql.myhost.com'. I tried creating a HOST record for mysqlhost pointing to the IP address it resolves to but that doesn't work. If I put 'mysql.myhost.com' in the connection it works. If I put that IP address it doesn't so that is probably why the HOST record idea doesn't work. Other than creating a local copy of the DB is there a quick way so that I don't have to modify each file in my dev environment and then again when I redeploy?

• Regex for zeroing in on build output text error

  I'd like to quickly hone in on what failed in a build log output that is nearly 5k lines long, using Notepad++ as my editor for the file. Notepad++ has the nice ability to specify regular expressions, so I am wondering if there is a way to not match: Compile complete -- 0 errors, 0 warnings but to match, for example: Compile complete -- 1 errors, 0 warnings Compile complete -- 100 errors, 0 warnings where the match would be (1 or more) errors. If this isn't possible, I will probably just write a quick line-by-line parsing tool instead, but I was hoping someone on StackOverflow could whip out a regular expression in the same amount of time - I'm definitely not proficient enough with regular expressions to be able to write one for my needs in a short amount of time.

  So, I am adapting some code I found online to suit my needs. However, my set_pixel function has two more parameters. Since there are lots of calls to this function even doing a quick paste over would be very tedious. So, I thought this would be a good time for me to learn some simple regular expressions. So, I have calls of this type: set_pixel(arg1, arg2); which I want to change to something like: set_pixel(arg1, arg2, arg3, arg4); Note: arg1 and and 2 should be preserved, whereas arg3 and arg4 are most of the time the same. How can I achieve this?

• Magento: Add (and retrieve) custom database field for CMS pages

  I want to assign custom parameters to CMS pages in Magento (i.e. 'about', 'customer service', etc), so they can be grouped. The end goal is to use the parameters for each page to show (or hide) them in a nav menu. Writing a quick method in the page/html block to retrieve the pages (active only) for the menu was easy, but I can't figure out how to group them so that 'testimonials', 'history', and 'contact' are associated with 'about', and 'return policy', 'shipping', and 'contact' are associated with 'customer service'. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• Which Java Web Framework allows Cross-Domain Javascripting (http proxy) ?

  So just a quick intro, I am starting to explore Vaadin, and it's absolutely perfect. Previously, I was juggling PHP, Perl, Ruby, and Jquery for designing rich client web application. It didn't work out too well, as I've burnt out from trying to fix cross browser issues (aka get-it-to-work-on-IE-damn-it), handling server-side, client-side, and building a robust communication between the two tier had lot of code not related to application logic....by the time I was burnt out, only tiny bit of application logic was implemented. Vaadin seems like the answer to my problem as it only requires Java and built on top of GWT. However, I am curious how I can incorporate Cross-Domain Javascripting ? Back in LAMP environment, I had a CGI proxy script that loaded external URL, and injected JS into the proxy-loaded page. I used the CGI proxy script, as it rendered Javascript of the external URL well. Is there a class or package for Java or a specific Java web framework similiar to Vaadin that makes this possible ? The first time i open the widget it calls the onUpdate method, but it never calls it again. • JMS message received at only one server

  I'm having a problem with a JEE6 application running in a clustered environment using WebSphere ApplicationServer 8. A search index is used for quick search in the UI (using Lucene), which must be re-indexed after new data arrived in the corresponding DB layer. To achieve this we're sending a JMS message to the application, then the search index will be refreshed. The problem is, that the messages only arrives at one of the cluster members. So only there the search index is up to date. At the other servers it remains outdated. How can I achieve that the search index gets updated at all cluster members? Can I receive the message somehow on all servers? Or is there a better way to do this?

• what are the various approaches for generating PDFs?

  I have an idea for an app that would take some flash content which contains graphics and images like various geometric shapes and polygons and some random images and convert them to PDF. Also, since I envision this app to be used my multiple users I want this process to be quick and scalable. One possible solution I could think of is have a small flash client with the capability of assembling the above mentioned graphics and images. Generate some sort of XML, send it to a server running a Java process which could render the PDF using iText. I was wondering what are the other possible ways to do it or the best practices. Technology isn't an issue; open source or commercial. I am looking for ideas to make the process fast and scalable. Most importantly, I don't want the back end server side PDF render engine to constraint the flash client capabilities. I would appreciate if you could share your tech stack idea. Thanks a lot!

  I have a quick question How many dojo filteringselects can I have on a form? I have a form with 2 filteringselects on it, both getting data from different json datastores to populate the values. However only the first filteringselect is being populated, the other grabs no data. I am using Zend Framework and Zend_Dojo_Form to create the form elements for this. Many thanks. Ok looks like my code is broken somewhere then. • How to prevent robots from automatically filling up a form?

  I'm trying to come up with a good enough anti-spamming mechanism to prevent automatically generated input. I've read that techniques like captcha, 1+1=? stuff work well, but they also present an extra step impeding the free quick use of the application. (I'm not looking for anything like that please). I've tried setting some hidden fields in all of my forms, with display: none; However, I'm almost certain a robot (which is essentially a program) can be configured to trace that form field id and simply not fill it. Do you implement/know of a good anti automatic-form-filling-robots method? Is there something that can be done seamlessly with HTML AND/OR server side processing, and be (almost) foolproof? (and please no JS, one could simply disable it, and there goes my anti-spam method). Btw I'm trying not to rely on sessions for this (like, counting how many times a button is clicked to prevent overloads).

For instance, I would like for THIS to happen: myfilearray[1]array[2]endl; Obviously, the "endl" just isn't allowed. Is there another way to do this? Edit---thanks for the quick responses guys!   Just a quick syntax question. I'm writing a map class (for school). If I define the following operator overload: template<typename Key, typename Val> class Map {... Val* operator[](Key k); What happens when a user writes: Map<int,int> myMap; map[10] = 3; Doing something like that will only overwrite a temporary copy of the [null] pointer at Key k. Is it even possible to do: map[10] = 3; printf("%i\n", map[10]); with the same operator overload?

Since I have 2 animations going, it seems it ignores the .stop(). What can be done to prevent this?   Hey guys quick question, I currently have an insert statement $query= "INSERT into new_mail VALUES ('$to1', '0')"; where fields are username, and message_number Currently what I would do to check if the entry exists, is do a select query then check the number of rows with mysql_num_rows (php). If rows==1 then I get the current message_number and set it equal to $row['message_number']++1. Then I update that entry with another query. Is there an easier way to do all this in just mysql with just one query (check if exists, if not insert, if so update message_number, increase by 1)?

  Hey guys quick question, I am kind of a noob at administering my server right now. I was just wondering if anyone could let me know what I was doing wrong in trying to enable mod_deflate. I have Apache 2.0+ and tried the code in my htaccess file AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css <FilesMatch "\\.(js|css|html|htm|php|xml)$"> SetOutputFilter DEFLATE </FilesMatch> It did not compress any of my files when I tested my site in firebug. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong, would really appreciate any pointers.
