• I'm looking for an online ASP.NET tutor.

  $15/hr. I know it's not much but... Hi. I'm looking for an ASP.NET tutor. I want to use a remote desktop application so we can see each others screens and use Skype or phone to communicate with. You won't need to come up with any lessons or anything like that. I was thinking we could spend an hour or two each time we logged in to build a decent sized website from scratch. That's basically it. I'm a beginner with about 2 months experience with ASP.NET so we won't have to start from the very beginning, but pretty close. I wanted this site to have a little complexity to it and not just a website for beginners, but something I could study for a while. I'll pay you through PayPal or some other method if you prefer. By the way, it doesn't have to be a website that we work on together. I'll listen to other suggestions too. Maybe we could use an open source site/app to walk-through and study and modify. I've looked at 'My Web Pages Starter Kit 1.30', 'SubText 2.1.2', 'nopCommerce 1.5', and some others. They were all beyond me, and I couldn't make sense of any of the source code. But if you use and are really familiar with an open source app/site that I can download, we could study that. Here are some technical specs about the site I'd like to build/study: ASP.NET 2.0+ (preferably 3.5+, but I don't really care) C# / VB.NET ( don't really care, I suck at both. This is more about ASP.NET and helping me understand the structure of an ASP.NET website and the .NET framework in general. ) SQL Server ( I have SQL Server 2008 express and would someday like to learn how to use this thing. ) JavaScript / AJAX ( at least some use of this ) XML ( basically, I'd like to spend some time in the web.config file, and have some sense of what's going on in there. ) ASP.NET Folders ( I'd like to work with all of the ASP.NET folders if possible: App_Code, App_GlobalResources, etc.. and understand what does/doesn't go in them. Hopefully we can build more than one theme too. ) Assemblies ( how do you create a .dll and use it across different websites? maybe you could suggest a third party .dll that we could use ) Web Service ( I read about this once but didn't really get it ) I can't think of anything else but the above will definitely keep me busy. Hopefully we could make use of a lot of the server controls too (the nav controls gave me a headache when I tried customizing them). Is someone willing to help? I'll pay through PayPal 15 bucks an hour. I live in the Dallas, Texas (US) area so we'd have to synchronize time zones and agree on a day(s)/time of the week. I prefer working at night and on the weekends because I work during the week but whatever your schedule allows too. • Media Player Classic creating folder

  Whenever I open a file in Media Player Classic it creates a new folder "Media Player Classic" under the folder of the file I opened. Originally it was putting a playlist in that folder, "default.mpcpl", but I found that if you open the playlist (Ctrl+7) and right-click the playlist, there is an option "Remember items", unchecking that will prevent MPC from creating this playlist. I was hopeful that without the auto-generated playlist MPC would have no reason to create the folder. Wrong. Now the folder is empty, but I still have to follow MPC around deleting all these blank folders. I use Media Player Classic on several of my computers so I think I just screwed up some variable somewhere somehow regarding where it stores playlists or something, but I can't figure out what it is, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to little avail. Which makes me think it might be in the registry. Does anyone have any ideas?

  Hi, I am no expert in network security, so pardon if this question is not very smart :). I am automating logins to some machines using ssh. I am currently avoiding host-key warnings using StrictHostKeyChecking no. I naively understand that someone can impersonate as the server and I risk losing my password to him if that were the case. However, if I am using only public/private Key based authentication ( using PasswordAuthentication no ), can the intruder still cause harm? So basically, with ssh -o "StrictHostKeyChecking no" -o "PasswordAuthentication no" : 1) Can the intruder decipher my private key? 2) Are there any other security threats? regards, JP

• Is it safe to delete "Account Unknown" entries from Windows ACLs in a domain environment?

  It's not uncommon to see entries in Windows ACLs (NTFS files/folders, registry, AD objects, etc.) with the name "Account Unknown (SID)". Obviously these are because of old AD users or groups which at some point had permissions manually configured on the relevant object and have since been deleted. Does anyone know if it is safe to remove these "Account Unknown" ACEs? My gut feeling is that it should be just fine, but I'm wondering if anyone has any past experiences where doing this has caused trouble? Normally I just ignore these, but the company I'm working at now seems to have an abnormal number of these, most likely due to past admins' inexperience with AD/Windows and assigning permissions to user accounts rather than groups in all sorts of weird places. FWIW, our environment is not complex, a single domain forest, 4 DCs in 3 sites, with all network connectivity and replication healthy, so I'm certain that these "Account Unknown" entries are really old accounts, and not just because of some failure to resolve the SID to a human-readable name.

• How can I determine file encodings on Windows / IIS ?

  From the answers to this question it appears there's a file somewhere on our server that's been saved with the wrong encoding. I've seen this happen before - most often when pasting from Word into Visual Studio, when "smart quotes" can interfere with Visual Studio's encoding settings when saving the file. Thing is - the problem I'm having involves 20-30 different script files, include files and so on (hey, that was how we kept it modular back in the day...) and I really don't want to open every one of them in Visual Studio and check the file encodings individually. Is there any way I can analyze a folder tree full of files and spit out a list of each filename along with the text encoding used to save the file? (Or - if encodings aren't clearly specified - work out what encoding Microsoft IIS thinks was used to save the file?)

  I back up my code with svn. I have project files in there however i ignore selected things. I also ignore jpg, ogg, etc. Right now i would like to backup everything. However the zip result is 1gb (i have a lot of code). I know i can cut down the filesize by 60%+ Is there an app i can use which will backup everything except the bin and obj folders? perhaps keep ogg, json, jpg files but ignore .svn or .pdb files?

• Auto-Complete Suggestions in Source Code Editor

  Hello, Most IDEs (Eclipse, Netbeans, Intelij) provide contextually smart suggestions about the current statement you're writing. We would like to do the same thing (In Java for Java). We considered tokenizing the input and building our own abstract syntax trees, but quickly realized that could be a month long project in and of its self. We also started digging through the source code for the above mentioned IDEs, but it appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that the auto-complete code is pretty tightly woven with the rest of the IDE. We're wondering if anyone knows of a relatively isolated package that we could pull into our project to provide this auto-complete functionality. Thanks!

  Possible Duplicate: Deleting folders give access denied error message on Windows 7, although I am administrator I am trying to rename a folder, but apparently it is in use. I don't think it is. I'd like to rename my folder. How can I do that? This happens regularly, and at random, particularly in my music folder. I'd like to know the cause and fix that.   First, I am aware that dynamic languages is a term used mainly by a vendor; I am using it just to have a container word to include languages like Perl (a favorite of mine), Python, Tcl, Ruby, PHP and so on. They are interpreted but I am interested here to refer to languages featuring strong capability to support the programmer efficiency and the support for typical constructs of modern interpreted languages My question is: there are dynamic languages can be compiled efficiently in native executable code - typically for Windows platforms? Which ones? Maybe using some third part ad-hoc tools? I am not talking about huge executables carrying with them a full interpreter or some similar tricks nor some smart module able to include its own dependances or some required modules, but a honest, straight, standard, solid executable code. If not, there is some technical reason inhibiting the availability of such a best-of-both-world feature? Thanks! Daniel

• Computer froze up

  Why would my computer freeze up out of the blue? I have Apache Webserver w/php, and MySQL server installed. I am not sure exactly when it happened, but I was doing something on a wordpress site that I have installed, and it just waited and waited and waited. Then, all the folders on it that were open on my other computer closed, as though I had disconnected it. Then the skype account went offline. The computer was totally froze. I thought maybe it was someone on logmein, but disconnecting it from the network didn't do anything. I had to "crash" it (held in the power button till it shutdown). It started up normally then and the logs showed absolutely nothing wrong. And doing the same thing that I did when it froze didn't repeat the freeze. Any ideas, I never had this happen before.

• SSIS - Parallel Execution of Tasks - How efficient is it?

  I am building an SSIS package that will contain dozens of Sequence tasks. Each Sequence task will contain three tasks. One to truncate a destination table and remove indexes on the table, another to import data from a source table, and a third to add back indexes to the destination table. My question is this. I currently have nine of these Sequences tasks built, and none are dependent on any of the others. When I execute the package, SSIS seems to do a pretty good job of determining which tasks in which Sequence to execute, which, by the way, appears to be quite random. As I continue adding more Sequences, should I attempt to be smarter about how SSIS should execute these Sequences, or is SSIS smart enough to do it itself? Thanks.

  Problem I recently migrated a Drupal site from a shared hosting server to my own VM. Everything appears to work correctly, except clean urls. My VM Setup Ubuntu 10.04 LAMP ISPConfig 3 What I've tried From reading up on a number of drupal forums I've tried the following in this order Check that mod_rewrite is installed and enabled Changed PHP from FastCGI to Mod_PHP (prefer to use FastCGI or suPHP though to avoid having tmp/files folders with 777 permissions) Changed the Redirect type to L in ISPConfig Sites-domain.com-Redirect Changed /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All ... </Directory> Not sure about points 3 and 4, I do want all domains to be able to use mod_rewrite out of the box. Question Have I done something wrong or am I missing a step? Ultimately I would like to use FastCGI and clean urls working on all ISPConfig 3 domains without having to make any changes to individual domain settings. Any ideas appreciated, I'll try them all.

• How can I rebuild the index in Thunderbird 3.0?

  Hello, I have just deleted a lot of old messages (about 3,000) from my Thunderbird 3.0 profile. When I now use the new search feature (search all messages), TB still finds the deleted ones. I deleted them this way: I moved the messages to an own "archive" folder (not the built-in archive feature). Then I stopped TB and moved the archive files and folders to a different place on my file system. Then restarted TB. I archive my messages this way for years now. So, it seems that Thunderbird does not notice the deletion of my messages, thus the index is not updated. How can I tell TB to instantly rebuild the index?

• How do I mklink junction + move content from C:\Program Files to D:\Program Files?

  I have a few applications that absolutely refuse to install into anything but C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86). Changing the registry keys for default install folders doesn't seem to provide any satisfaction and so now I'm wondering about throwing a NTFS junction in there to force these pesky applications to cooperate. There are files currently in use within Windows so it's quite likely I am not going to be able to do this within the active OS. Is there some bootable Windows 7 system tools that would allow me to make this happen? Seems I will need the ability to copy files (with permissions!) from one drive to another, as well as make the junction for Windows.

• Thunderbird: moving email from local Junk folder to IMAP folder yields "Message contains invalid header"

  Whenever I try to move an email from a local Junk folder to an IMAP folder in Thunderbird, I get the following error message: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Message contains invalid header If Thunderbird's Junk folder is an IMAP folder on the server, then after Thunderbird has moved messages to that folder, I can successfully move messages from Junk back into to some other IMAP folder. However, if the Junk folder is not on the server, then moving a message from the local Junk folder to an IMAP folder yields the aforementioned error. The only interesting thing I've found about this error is "Message contains invalid header" from the MozillaZine Knowledge Base. That article officially is about importing folders from another email client, and does not mention the Junk filter as another possible cause. However the proposed solution is not very helpful since it requires manual editing of the message box files. Any better ideas? EDIT: make sure you read the comments before answering the question.

• Why my custom CStatic derived control does not receive WM_SIZE message?

  Hello everyone! I'm currently developing a custom control that derives from CStatic MFC class (Smart Device C++ project). I have created the control class using VC++ MFC class wizard, selecting CStatic class as its base class. I have used Class View to add OnSize event handler for my control class (I have selected WM_SIZE message from messages list), and new OnSize method has been created by Visual Studio along with ON_WM_SIZE() statement between BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(...) and END_MESSAGE_MAP(). The problem is that my control does not receive WM_SIZE thus OnSize method is never called - I used MoveWindow to change size of my control - its size changes as I have seen on dialog window but WM_SIZE message is never being sent. When I send WM_SIZE through SendMessage or PostMessage function - the control OnSize method is called normally. What do I wrong? I've read MSDN docs about CStatic control and there is no information that WM_SIZE message is never sent to a static control window. Sorry for my bad English.

• Find edited Word attachment opened via Windows Mail (Vista)

  If you open (not save) a Word attachment in Windows Mail, then it will open the document up in Microsoft Word. This is saved somewhere, and you can edit the file and save it (i.e. no "save as" dialog appears). If you then close Word without explicitly saving the file somewhere, how do you then find the edited file? (Assuming that it can be found, and isn't automatically deleted). Windows Search does not find the file (presumably because it's in the folders that are excluded from search).

• VirtualBox won't use any kind of hardware acceleration

  I see an problem with VirtualBox hardware acceleration functionality... My system configuration: MSI PH67A-C43 (B3) (BIOS: 2.70) Intel Core i5-2400 Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.10 Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack 4.1.10 I can select the individual acceleration options such as PAE/NX, VT-x/VMD-V or Nested Paging within VM-Settings but if I start the VM the accelerations will be disabled as of the tooltip from CPU (right next to shared folders). Each acceleration is "Disabled". Does this sounds familar to anybody? How can I solve this?

  So, today I have installed Mozilla Thunderbird 24.2.0 on my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. It was downloading emails, until it hit an error. An alert showed up saying : "There is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try deleting old mail, emptying the Trash folder, and compacting your mail folders, and then try again." Now, disk space is not a problem, there is enough free space left ( almost 50 % of the drive ). How to stop the alert and continue downloading ?

• Google products are excessively slow

  Hi, We're running Windows 2000 for our office server. For years now we have had the problem where everthing Google takes an excessively long time to do anything. Gmail hangs, Analytics takes forever, Google docs times out. I have been back and forth with our ISP on this matter and they are convinced it has something to do with our server. This does not happen when I am at home so the problem either lays with our server or with the ISP. • How do I share a complete XP disk so it can be seen from a Windows 7 system?

  This should be easier! (both computers can see the internet etc so I know the network it’s self is working) I have a normal home network with a Windows XP machine on it and the new Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. So I can transfer the files to the new Windows 7 machine, I wish to share the complete disk (and all files) from the Windows XP machine and access them from the Windows 7 machine. Is there a step by step set of instructions for doing this anywhere? So fare I have: put both computers into the same workgroup put the windows 7 machine into work network mode so it can see the XP machine in the work group shared the XP disk as read only But when I try to access a lot of the folders on the XP disks, I am told I am not allowed to access them. (I was not asked for any passwords by the windows 7 machine when I accessed the XP machine. The XP machine just has its default account with no password set on it)
