  • MVVM - what is the ideal way for usercontrols to talk to each other

    I have a a user control which contains sevral other user controls. I am using MVVM. Each user control has a corresponding VM. How do these user controls send information to each other. I want to avoid writing any code in the xaml code behind. Particularly I am interested in how the controls (inside the main user control) will talk to each other and how will they talk to the container user control. EDIT: I know that using events-delegates will help me solve this issue. But, I want to avoid writing any code in xaml code-behind.

    I use a TabControl to display a list of items. The ItemView is a separate control I wrote. <TabControl SelectedItem="{Binding CurrentItem}" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding ItemList}"> <TabControl.ContentTemplate> <DataTemplate> <ctrls:ItemView/> </DataTemplate> </TabControl.ContentTemplate> <TabControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="{Binding ShortItemDescription}"/> </DataTemplate> </TabControl.ItemTemplate> </TabControl> If the user presses a Button a new ViewModel is added to the list of ViewModels and the TabControl displays it as a new tab. After adding the new tab is selected. <Button Command="{Binding AddItemCommand}" Content="Add item"/> Inside of the new ViewModel is a button that needs to be focused each time a new tab is added. I have tried to use the FocusManager and the Initialized event in the ItemView but these are only called for the first time I add a new tab. <UserControl x:Class="ItemView" ...   • MVVM: where is the best place to integrate an id counter, in ViewModel or Repository or... ?

    Hello, I am using http://loungerepo.codeplex.com/ this library needs a unique id when I persist my entities to the repository. I decided for integer not Guid. The question is now where do I retrieve a new integer and how do I do it? Do you have any better ideas? What I do not like about my current apporach: -Having a private method in repositry class because a repositry is to fetch data only not "entity logic" like the counter - Having to access from the ViewModel a public property - located in the repository -, actually its not the ViewModel concern to get a entity id and assign it. Actually the ViewModel should ask for a schoolclass POCO and get a SchoolclassModel to bind to the UI. But then I have again to re-read the Schoolclass properties into the SchoolclassModel properties what I want to avoid.

    I use DataGrid with DataGridTextColumns. How can I style or disable the default ContextMenu of a Cell? I tried to add a style for DataGridCell: <DataGrid.CellStyle> <Style TargetType="{x:Type DataGridCell}"> <Setter Property="ContextMenu" Value="{x:Null}"/> </Style> </DataGrid.CellStyle> but it doesn't work. As I understand, it is a TextBox inside a Cell when the Cell in edit mode. I tried also to add a style for TextBox, but it have an effect only on TextBoxes in XAML, but not on the DataGrid cells.

  • ListBoxItem height not getting updated

    Hi, I have a listbox inside another list box, in inner list box listboxitems height may grow or shrink. My problem is that when the inner items shrink the outer list box doesn't re-render its height. Thus - stays with the previous height before the inner list shrinked. I have tried so many things here, among Invalidate of all types, selection and de-selection of the list box item that should be updated and more - nothing helps.... Can anyone pls help me with this?     My ViewModel: class ViewModel { public string FileName {get;set;} } and in my View I bind a label's content to ViewModel's FileName. now When I do drag-drop a file to my View, How can I update the label's Content property, so that the ViewMode's FileName also get updated via binding? Directly set the label's Content property won't work, it just simply clear the binding.

    In my application I have keys that bound to commands using the KeyBinding class. The command is executed when the key is pressed and released. I have a special case where I want to bind separate commands to the pressed action and to the released action. For example when the space key is pressed I want my app to run a command to enter a special mode. Then when the space key is released I want to run another command to exit that special mode. Currently I do this by manually handling the KeyUp and KeyDown events. Is there anyway to execute commands for pressed and released purely in XAML?

What am I doing wrong?

  • XAML get new width and height for Canvas

    I have searched through many times but have not seen this before. Probably really simple question but can't wrap my head around it. Wrote a VSTO add-in for Excel that draws a Grid dynamically. Then launches a new window and replaces the contents of the Canvas with the generated Grid. The problem is with printing. When I call the print procedure the canvas.height and canvas.width returned is the old value prior to replacing it with the grid.   • How can I prevent a ToggleButton from being Toggled without setting IsEnabled=False

    I have a list of ToggleButtons being used as the ItemTemplate in a ListBox similar to this answer using the MultiSelect mode of the Listbox. However I need to make sure at least one item is always selected. I can get the proper behavior from the ListBox by just adding an item back into the ListBox's SelectedItems collection on the ListBox.SelectionChanged event but my ToggleButton still moves out of its toggled state so I think I need to stop it earlier in the process. I would like to do it without setting IsEnabled="False" on the last button Selected because I'd prefer to stay with the Enabled visual style without having to redo my button templates. Any ideas?

  • With MVVM, does each UI window have its own ViewModel?

    When I'm designing multiple views under the MVVM pattern, does each view get its own ViewModel or do they all share the same one? I understand that this is ultimately a flexible decision, but what is the best practice? My gut tells me to have a ViewModel for each view (i.e. each separate UI window). All of the blog examples of MVVM show a single view but not much beyond that.
