• How to build a web crawler to find a specific advert, which is in an iframe loaded by Javascript

  I'm trying to find all instances of an advert on a website. The advert is in an iframe which is loaded by javascript (it doesn't appear at all if javascript is turned off). Detecting the advert itself is extremely simple, both the name of the flash file and the target of the href always contain a certain string. What would be the best "starting point" for achieving this? At the moment I'm considering an Adobe AIR app, which could crawl the site and examine the DOM to find the ad, and would run javascript and load the content of the iframe. The other option I can think of is using Firefox as the platform (using maybe GreaseMonkey or Selenium? I don't really know how to leverage Firefox like this). Does anyone know of anything suitable to build this, or have any suggestions on using Firefox to do it? Extra details: Being CPU intensive isn't really an issue, nor is anything depending on a browser being open. This doesn't need to run on a headless server, it will be running on a powerful desktop box. OS is also not an issue. It would be advantageous if the crawler loaded each page multiple times, as the advert is in rotation. While the crawler does need to execute the javascript and load the content of the iframe, it does not need to be able to display flash files.

• RavenDB Ids and ASP.NET MVC3 Routes

  Hey all, Just building a quick, simple site with MVC 3 RC2 and RavenDB to test some things out. I've been able to make a bunch of projects, but I'm curious as to how Html.ActionLink() handles a raven DB ID. My example: I have a Document called "reasons" (a reason for something, just text mostly), which has reason text and a list of links. I can add, remove, and do everything else fine via my repository. Below is the part of my razor view that lists each reason in a bulleted list, with an Edit link as the first text: @foreach(var Reason in ViewBag.ReasonsList) { <li>@Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Reasons", "Edit", new { id = Reason.Id }, null) @Reason.ReasonText</li> <ul> @foreach (var reasonlink in Reason.ReasonLinks) { <li><a href="@reasonlink.URL">@reasonlink.URL</a></li> } </ul> } The Problem This works fine, except for the edit link. While the values and code here appear to work directly (i.e the link is firing directly), RavenDB saves my document's ID as "reasons/1". So, when the URL happens and it passes the ID, the resulting route is "http://localhost:4976/Reasons/Edit/reasons/2". So, the ID is appended correctly, but MVC is interpreting it as its own route. Any suggestions on how I might be able to get around this? Do I need to create a special route to handle it or is there something else I can do?

• Using layout view in Express with Consolidate and Mustache

  I just started going through Node using Express and finally got Consolidate JS working properly to use Mustache as the templating view system per the instructions on the Consolidate JS Github page. Mustache is loading properly, but I'm now wondering how to include the layout file along in the rendering of the template. The default Jade system loads the content of the .render method inside of the layout.jade file. I'm just wondering how to do the same, but with Mustache. Any help is greatly appreciated! • How to control CSS class applied to ASP.NET 4 Menu with RenderingMode=List

  I am using an ASP.NET 4.0 Menu control with RenderingMode=List and am struggling with creating the appropriate CSS. Each menu item is represented by an <li tag that contains a nested <a tag with what appear to be fixed class names: <a class="level1" for unselected level 1 menu items <a class="level2" for unselected level 2 menu items <a class="level1 selected" for the selected level 1 menu item ... etc... What I want to do is to is to prevent the currently selected menu item from being "clickable". To do so I tried using: if (menuItem.Selected) menuItem.Selectable = false; This has the desired effect of removing the href attribute from the <a tag but also removes the class attribute - and as a result my CSS can not identify what level the menu item belongs to! Looks to me like a possible bug, but in any case I can't find any documentation describing what CSS class names are used, nor whether there is any way to control this (the old Style properties don't appear to have any effect). Ideally I would like to have "level" class attributes on the <li tags, not just the nested <a tags.

  Why would the below eliminate the whitespace around matched keyword text when replacing it with an anchor link? Note, this error only occurs in Chrome, and not firefox. • Form submitted via dialog opens dialog again

  I have a form in a jquerymobile dialog box that I am submitting via jQuery Ajax. Currently my problem is that once the form is submitted the same dialog box is opened again on top of the original dialogbox. • onSubmit returning false is not working

  I'm completely confused ... I'd swear this was working yesterday ... I woke up this morning and all my forms stopped to work in my project. All the forms have a "onsubmit" to a function that returns false since it's an ajax call, so the form is never sent. • Open a new browser window from embeded Internet Explorer

  I am working on a Windows desktop app (C++) that has an embedded Internet Explorer page. I'm working on the html page that is displayed in the There is not a back button control, so one of the requests is that links clicked on in the page should open the link in a browser window. It can open the link in the users default browser or in IE. Is this possible? I realize that this is not possible because javascript is in a sandbox and cannot touch outside applications. I'm thinking there might be a way because it is using the IE. I have tried the two methods that have worked for me in the past. Using jquery, I've tried these two approaches, but neither work in the app. They both work fine in normal browsers. Using target="_blank" $( "a" ).attr( "target", "_blank" ); The other is using window.open: $( "a" ).click( function() { window.open( $( this ).attr( "href" ) ); } ); I'm afraid that writing windows desktop applications is outside my area of expertise, so I cannot give more information regarding that side of the issue.

• Submit form with JS

  Im working with a shopping cart plugin and that uses a basic form on the product page to submit values like price, product name, etc.. The problem is that the plugin uses a standard submit button to send the values and I would like to replace said button with a prettier custom jquery rollover. In order to make this happen I used some JS and tossed a link around my custom submit button: <a href="#" onclick="document.forms[0].submit()" value="Add to Cart" onsubmit="return ReadForm(this, true);"> <img class="fade" src="style/img/add_btn.jpg" style="background: url(style/img/add_ro.png);" alt=""/> </a> The form submits and the user is redirected to the homepage but the data in the form doesn't seem to get submitted and the product never gets added to the 'cart' page. I suspect that the form is getting submitted but I am failing to fire some additional JS function that submits the data.   I want to perform the following vim substitution as a one-liner in the terminal with Perl. I would prefer to allow for any occurences of whitespace or newlines, rather than explicitly catering for them as I am below. %s/blockDontForget">\n*\s*<p><span><a\(.*\)<\/span>/blockDontForget"><p><a\1/g I've tried this: perl -pi -e 's/blockDontForget"><p><span><a(.*)<\/span>/blockDontForget"><p><a$1/msg' I presume I am misinterpreting the flags. • jQuery image hover color overlay

  I can't seem to find any examples of this having been done anywhere on the internet before but here is what I am going to attempt to do...I'm trying to go about the cleanest possible way of laying this out. So I have an image gallery where the images are all different sizes. I want to make it so that when you mouseover the image, it turns a shade of orange. Just a simple hover effect. I want to do this without using an image swap, otherwise I'd have to create an orange colored hover-image for each individual gallery image, I'd like this to be a bit more dynamic. My plan is just to position an empty div over the image absolutely with a background color, width and height 100% and opacity: 0. Then using jquery, on mouseover I'd have the opacity fade to 0.3 or so, and fade back to zero on mouseout. My question is, what would be the best way to layout the html and css to do this efficiently and cleanly. • Toggling between instances of NiftyPlayer on a page - won't stop playing when hidden on IE

  Hi, i've got a page with links to MP3s, when the link is clicked I use javascript to show a small Flash player (NiftyPlayer) under the link. When a different link is clicked, the old player is hidden and the new player is revealed. The player auto-starts when the element is shown, and auto-stops when hidden - in Firefox. In IE it will only auto-start and NOT auto-stop. This is what I would like to solve. I need some help with javascript - how do I add this call to play into my toggle_visibility function (it has the same unique ID number added to the name of the player as the ID of the div that's being shown, but I don't know how to pull this ID number out of one thing and put it in another) I also would like to be able to do niftyplayer('niftyPlayer1').stop() to stop the audio of the previously running player. Is it possible to store the current ID number somewhere and call it back when needed? • Regex for removing certain variable numeric values from some text

  I want to substitute all 4 instances of the number 300 from the code below, with 470. <div> <object width="300" height="300"> <embed src="link-removed" width="300" height="300"></embed> </object> <p> <a href="another-link">link</a> </p> </div> The width and height of the code being pasted might not always be 300 by 300. So I figure I probably need a regular expression that subs any numeric value that follows the strings "width=" and "height=", whilst remembering to account for the quotations marks that surround the number. Can anyone tell me if that's the best way, and if so, what would be the best regex? In case it matters, the code being pasted is stored as "text" in the db rather than as a string, as it's quite lengthy (i've removed a few hundred chars from what you see pasted here)...

• Passing parameters to eventListener function

  I have this function check(e) that I'd like to be able to pass parameters from test() when I add it to the eventListener. Is this possible? Like say to get the mainlink variable to pass through the parameters. Is this even good to do? • Facebook Like Meta Tags not showing Images

  I have implemented the Facebook Like button on all our pages and it works properly by posting to Facebook with the correct meta tags. However, the images do not show in Facebook. The image meta tags show up properly when I use the Facebook Linter, but they don't show on someone's facebook page where the Like is posted on their wall. Also, is there any way to have the info recache more often? The tags take forever to update. Our site is built with CakePHP. • Email function using templates. Includes via ob_start and global vars

  I have a simple Email() class. It's used to send out emails from my website. <? Email::send($to, $subj, $msg, $options); ?> I also have a bunch of email templates written in plain HTML pierced with a few PHP variables. E.g. /inc/email/templates/account_created.php: <p>Dear <?=$name?>,</p> <p>Thank you for creating an account at <?=$SITE_NAME?>. To login use the link below:</p> <p><a href="https://<?=$SITE_URL?>/account" target="_blank"><?=$SITE_NAME?>/account</a></p> In order to have the PHP vars rendered I had to include the template into my function. But since include does not return the contents but rather just sends it directly to the output, I had to wrap it with the buffer functions: <? abstract class Email { public static function send($to, $subj, $msg, $options = array()) { /* ... */ ob_start(); include '/inc/email/templates/account_created.php'; $msg = ob_get_clean(); /* ... */ } } After that I realized that the PHP vars are not rendered as they are being inside of the function scope, so I had to globalize the variables inside of the template: <? global $SITE_NAME, $SITE_URL, $name; ?> <p>Dear <?=$name?>,</p> ... So the question is whether there is a more elegant solution to this? Mainly I am concerned about my workarounds using ob_start() and global. For some reason that seems to me odd. Or this is pretty much the common practice?
