How can I load one image over network to multiple computers on boot?

A few years ago I saw this in a company but I don't know how it was built. There was 1 Computer (I don't know if Windows Server or plain Windows 7 - the server) and 3 other computers (Windows 7 - the clients). As soon as the Windows 7 clients were started, they all started up the same image (Don't know if the same image file or just the same state) over network and were able to work on the computer. As soon as the machine was shutdown, all the changes made to the system were erased. How could I build a system like this so I have 1 image file which I keep up to date and then feed it to the other machines in my network? It would look this this basically:

Not getting my normal internet speed but my other computers can?

I have Comcast Xfinity and I cannot reach anywhere near my promised speed. My family desktop which is hardwired into the router reaches to 60Mbps and so do my parents computers and my brothers. I cannot seem to get anywhere close to it, I know with being wireless I won't reach it, but I should at least get somewhere close. I can only pull 6Mbps and thats terrible for what I should be receiving. Any clue what could be wrong here? Edit: I have 100% signal and I'm not behind any walls

How to share Opera extensions preferences between my two computers ?

Well, the title is quite unambiguous. However, let me clarify it even more. Starting with Opera 11, there now are Opera extensions, which are compliant to W3C widget specification. This allows us to use it on whichever browser supports their (well, currently, only Opera does). Anyway, suppose I have two computers, each one using Opera. How could I possibly synchronize used extensions and their preferences ? With Opera Link ? I didn't saw any kind of extension sharing in it With Dropbox/any other file sharing application ? If so, how could I do that ?

Can anyone recommend how to fix sore "sides" from overuse of computers? (some kind of RSI)

I have to use computers for 9+ hours per day (no suggestions about 'use your computer less!' please). I get various kinds of RSI: a little soreness in the hands and wrists, but that's not a big deal compared my main problem: Pain in the sides of my body, under my arms and down the sides of my torso. Driving worsens it. Exercise doesn't seem to help (maybe I need a special exercise). It could be posture related, but I haven't found a way to fix that. Has anyone else experienced this? I find lots of people complaining about more typical kinds of RSI, but not like mine. I am hoping someone with experience can recommend an exercise, treatment, or adjustment in how I use my computer.

Nginx works on my linux machine but is not accessible from other computers in my local network

In my LAN network I have a server with Scientific Linux (RedHat or Fedora based distro), I've done yum install nginx but the welcome page is not accessible from other computers in my network. When I do telnet open localhost 80 and then GET / HTTP/1.0 I get some html code from nginx, so it's running for sure. But when I want to connect remotly, doing telnet open 192.168.3.130 80 I get: Trying 192.168.3.130... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host So I assume that there is something wrong with my network settings, maybe iptables or something else? Next step, I turned off iptables: service iptables stop and it helped, now I can connect remotely using telnet. So I think, I need to fix my iptables rules. I did some googling and found this rule -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT but it still didn't allow me to connect remotely when iptables is up. Can someone please help me setting a proper iptables configuration?

How does communication between 2 computers in a single network happen?

Lets say I and my friend connect our computers with a LAN cable. I ping my friend with his IP address. How does it work? Since we are in the same network, we don't even need IP addresses, do we? Isn't IP addressing only relevant in case of inter-network communication? What will the ping command do with his IP address? How will it eventually find his physical address (NIC address)? (no ARP here, because that would involve a router at the edge of the network, which doesn't apply here). Am I wrong somewhere?

Issue with Multiple ModalPopups, ValidationSummary and UpdatePanels

I am having an issue when a page contains multiple ModalPopups each containing a ValidationSummary Control. Here is the functionality I need: A user clicks a button and a Modal Popup appears with dynamic content based on the button that was clicked. (This functionality is working. Buttons are wrapped in UpdatePanels and the partial page postback calls .Show() on the ModalPopup) "Save" button in ModalPopup causes client side validation, then causes a full page postback so the entire ModalPopup disappears. (ModalPopup could disappear another way - the ModalPopup just needs to disappear after a successful save operation) If errors occur in the codebehind during Save operation, messages are added to the ValidationSummary (contained within the ModalPopup) and the ModalPopup is displayed again. When the ValidationSummary's are added to the PopupPanel's, the ModalPopups no longer display correctly after a full page postback caused by the "Save" button within the second PopupPanel. (the first panel continues to function correctly) Both PopupPanels are displayed, and neither is "Popped-Up", they are displayed in-line. Any ideas on how to solve this? One of the requirements of the client is that a file(which will be large in size) should be transfered in chunks for example if we have a file of 5Mb size then we can have 5 threads which transfer 1 Mb each. Small Explanation what this file does This class finds the size of the file to be fetched from Sender Depending upon the size of the file it finds the start and end position till the bytes needs to be read. It starts n number of threads giving each thread start,end, sequence number and a list which all the threads share. Each thread reads the number of bytes and creates a ByteArrayWrapper. ByteArrayWrapper objects are added to the list Then i have while loop which basically make sure that all threads have done their work finally it sorts the list based on the sequence number. then the bytes are joined, and a complete byte array is formed which is converted to a file. In this code i am not able to see the benefit. 2) How should i decide how many threads should i create ? 3) Are their any opensource libraries which does that 4) The file which file receiver receives is valid and not corrupted but checksum (i used FileUtils of common-io) does not match. Whats the problem? 5) This code gives out of memory when used with large file(above 100 Mb) i.e. because byte array which is created. How can i avoid? I'm using multiple datepicker on same grid and I face the problem to get a proper result. I used 3 datepicker in 1 grid. Only the first datepicker (Order Date)is able to output proper result while the other 2 datepicker (Start Date & End Date) are not able to generate proper result. Do any CDN services offer multiple urls (or aliases) for your files?

Lets say a company has multiple commercial web properties that happen to use a lot of the same images on each site. For SEO reasons, the sites must not appear to be related to eachother in any way. This means that the sites can't all link to the same image, even though they all use the same one. Therefore, an image is uploaded to each site and served from each site separately. In order to improve maintainability and latency, lets say the company wanted to use a CDN service. What I'm wondering is, if you upload a file, like an image or something, to a CDN, is there basically one single URL that you access that image at? Or do some (or all) CDN services offer alias URLs so that you can access the same resource from multiple URLs? Example of undesirable situation: Both sites link to the same file URL Site ABC links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-path/myimage.jpg"/> Site XYZ links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-path/myimage.jpg"/> Example of DESIRABLE situation: Both sites link to the same file via different URLs Site ABC links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-path/myimage.jpg"/> Site XYZ links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-alias-path/myimage.jpg"/> So in the end, there is only one single file, myimage.jpg on the CDN server, but it is accessible from multiple URLs. Is this possible with CDN services? I know this would make browsers cache the same image twice, but at least it would be better for maintainability. Only one file would ever have to be uploaded.

Starting over and new to Ubuntu

We have been having repeated problems with our interent service and using windows xp & sp3 (users and premissions) I see no need for them. I started with computers long before windows. Every since sp 3 come out in 2009 I have had nothing but problems. I have lost so many computers to virius and trojans, we just stack them up. We are with Qwest/ Century link which is using advertising servers which I think is causing the problem. All the computers are networked together which is not how I set them up. I beleive Century link is networking them through assignment of a domain for our home. This causes all the computers to crash twice. This is getting expensive. We tried buying new harddrives but reinfect with hours of connecting to internet. I also beleive the modem, router and all computers are infected. I put combofix on this one and that is the only reason we are still online with this laptop. I am afraid to install new equipment because my partner and I are on SSDI and this cost a lot. I go to school at UOP and had to run off a flash and reboot this laptop to recovery every other day or so, this pass month. New plan is: We are getting ready to install new equipment but afraid to reinfect again. Need help to install new equipment. The plan is to use current internet services from Qwest/ now Century Link. The list of New equipment in order: Century link wireless modem is ZyXEL PK5000Z with 4 direct connect Ethernet ports Next Dell Optiplex 210L ( used auction purchase ) 2 gb ram 80 g hard drive Ubuntu 11.10 operating system Next Wireless D-Link router WBR-1310 with 4 direct connect Ethernet ports OK-------- Purchased Dell OEM disk for Repair or Reinstalling Windows XP Professional Operating system (2 roommates as well) All infected computers are Dell desktops or laptops with XP Pro Also purchasing Ubuntu 12.04 for 3 computers. We like the way it runs but still learning it. Questions 1] How do we fdisk the infected computers without infecting new system. We have Dos disks, but none have floppy dish drive. We do have a new floppy disk drive and usb adapter we purchased from Amazon. 2] We are thinking Avast internet security because of the boot scan. We want all software loaded before reconnecting. We can manually load our internet provider information. We purchased StopZilla $100 for 5 computers, but not sure that is what we need. But need how to setup ports security and services we will need. Really lost at this part. So we are safe when we go back on the internet. 3] Want to connect reloaded fdisk systems to router as public connection and no sharing. Do not want to network all computers. 4] Want parental/ ownership control from Ubuntu system for internet connection (Children and friends). Do we restrict at the modem and/ or router? Any help would be a blessing. I do not want to go alone on this anymore.

I have currently 3 switches Two Netgear JFS524 with 24 slots, One Belkin with 16 slots. Server DSL Internet Router. Main question is how to connect switches together, two Netgear's are next to each other, yet one is about 100 feet away and holds about 5 computer and 5 phones. If i connect them with only 1 wire will that limit bandwidth? e.g. all 23 computers will be limited to speed of one CAT5e cable? If i connect switches with 2 cables will this give speed boost? What's the ideal scenario should i just move the third switch next to other two? Will the speed of computer connected to white switch be same as computer connected to top switch? Will moving white switch right next top switch and having 16 wires comming 100 feet instead of 1 wire comming 100 feet make it faster? EDIT 1: I actually have NETGEAR ProSafe GS105 Gigabit switch its only has 4 ports in it though, you think i can have use of it in current setup? Like connect all 3 switches and server into it and keep internet router and phone server on one of the slower switches EDIT 2: Everyone mention gigabit switches, but will they do any difference with 10/100 network cards? I then have to use gigabit cards in every computer too? I could in server perhaps, but users will be 10/100

Why am I unable to reach local network computers, but able to browse the web?

I have a weird problem. Today after turning my Ubuntu 9.10 PC on I can't connect to my local network, but I can use the Internet. We have a single Windows 2003 server machine that acts as a local main DNS server, DHCP server and a domain controller. Although it seems to give me the local IP address, I can not ping it, as well as any other machine on the net. I have tried all of the below and it didn't help: Rebooting; Reconnecting to the network; Forcing the dhclient to renew the IP address; Deleting and creating new connection profiles; Plugging my machine into another network outlet; Maybe it has something to do with routing, because I have tampered with routing tables the day before, but the tables seem ok to me: $ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1 0 0 eth0 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 vboxnet0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 Our LAN uses a D-Link DI-604 router, and it looks to me as if I am connected to the network outside the router. I have managed to ssh to it from outside, but I still can't ping nothing on the inside. P.P.S Today I tried reinstalling network-manager with --purge option, but it did no good. After that I created a new DCHP reservation for my PC in order to change my local IP, but that didn't change anything either. My PC is able to get a DHCP offer, but then it's unable to connect to any local computers. I am desperate.

ConfigMgr 2012 - How to automatically make updates available to computers without forcing them to be installed?

I'm using System Center Configuration Manager 2012 with the Software Update Point feature; however, in this environment patching has to be strictly manual, because server reboots need to be approved and scheduled by different people; thus, I need to use ConfigMgr's SUP like I would use a plain WSUS server with auto-approval but with manual installation. I created some Automatic Deployment Rules to automatically download and deploy critical updates, and to have an installation dealine of "as soon as possible"; but then, I've also configured those rules to not do anything when the deadline is reached, and to not perform system restarts even if needed (see image). Also, I've configured the device collection to where those rules deploy updates to not have any valid maintencance window. However, I'm experiencing quite the opposite as what I was expecting: as soon as the new updates are processed by the ADRs, they get automatically installed on all systems by the Software Center, and the computers are subsequently restarted. Why is this happening? Am I getting something wrong or is just ConfigMgr 2012 not behaving like it should?

I know the title reeks of confusion, and some of you might assume I am just wondering about how the computer boots in general, but I'm not. But I'll sort this out for you people now: 1.Onboard firmware is how mostly all modern computer devices work, whether or not with EFI/UEFI(even without "onboard firmware", older computers still employed bank switching, or similar methods with snap-in firmware, cartridges, etc.) 2.On startup there is no "programs" running in the traditional sense yet, i.e. no kernel, OS, user-applications; all of the instructions, especially the very first instruction, is specified by the Instruction Pointer, I am guessing. How is the IP/PC/etc. set to first point to an address for a BIOS/firmware/etc. instruction, and how do the BIOS instructions map themself out in memory prior to startup? 3.Aside from MMIO, BIOS uses certain RAM addresses to have instructions. The big ? comes in when I ask this ... how does BIOS do this? Conclusion: I am assuming that with the very first instruction there is an initial hardware setup for BIOS prior to complete OS bootup. What I want to know is if it's hardware engineered to always work this way, if there's another step in this bootup method I am missing, a gap of information I am unaware of, or how this all works from the very first instruction, and the RAM data itself.

Linq to Datarow, Select multiple columns as distinct?

basically i'm trying to reproduce the following mssql query as LINQ SELECT DISTINCT [TABLENAME], [COLUMNNAME] FROM [DATATABLE] the closest i've got is Dim query = (From row As DataRow In ds.Tables("DATATABLE").Rows _ Select row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME").Distinct when i do the above i get the error Range variable name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. i was sort of expecting it to return a collection that i could then iterate through and perform actions for each entry. maybe a datarow collection? As a complete LINQ newb, i'm not sure what i'm missing. i've tried variations on Select new with { row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME")} and get: Anonymous type member name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. Also, does anyone know of any good books/resources to get fluent?

Using JQuery to replace multiple instances of HTML on one page

I've made a script which copies the alt attribute of an image and puts it into a <span>. It also formulates the information divided by a hyphen. It works like a charm, but only with one image. I would also like to wrap a <div> around the image to prevent unnecessary markup. Hi there, i am starting my experience with iphone sdk. and i have a question, which is i am trying to create two pages to the app but i don't know how to link them or design them. like when i start the Xcode i find one page named View to design in it, i want to make that page a welcoming page then the user choose one of the three choices he see in that page. Once he clicked on one of them the program take him to the next page or the page he chose. thank you

The code provided is only what I've found out so far, and is not working perfectly yet...
