• Alternative for PHPlivedocx?

  Hello, Is there any other free alternatives to PHPliveDocx? I would like to create a Word document based on templates and user inputted data. The template will resides on the server and the client(online or c# windows application) will be used to collect user input. Once data has been collected, server-side script(PHP) will be used to generate a Word document. So far I have only found phplivedocx. However I'm not very comfortable at consuming web services from a server that I have no control over with (am I worrying too much?). I have also thought about using client to do the work (c# windows application, Open Office XML). But I'm not sure that's the right way of doing things. Any guidance/help will be really appreciated! Thanks!

• C# console applications all 16bit?

  Hi all, I was reading up about NTVDM.exe as I build a quick test console app and it crashed on a friends machine complaining about this EXE. As I understand it all DOS cmd windows (C# console apps included) run as 16bit not 32bit. Is this true? Does this mean all my works console app back office apps are running as 16bit rather than making the most of the 32bit available? What about Windows services? As I believe we wrote it as a console app then made it run as a windows service? Thanks

I want to use TJvBallonHint from the JVCL package, which is also used in other parts of my program.   I am trying to make a WPF Application and using the Visio Controls. I have a dll named AxInterop.Microsoft.Office.Interop.VisOcx and I refer it to instantiate an object of the type AxDrawingControl(). Now as soon as I write this code: AxDrawingControl objDrawControl=new AxDrawingControl(); and check the attributes of this object objDrawControl in the debug mode, I see this message: Exception of type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost+InvalidActiveXStateException' was thrown. • Google maps nearest points avoiding rivers / by itinerary

  Here is the deal : I need to find the closest points from a point with a radius. For example, I need to get all the points in a 15 km radius. Thats easy with Google Maps Radius and all the examples on the web ;) The problem is that from my office, a point is under the 15km radius, but it's on the other side of a river, so the car itinerary is about 30 km (using a bridge)! Is there a simple solution to exclude those points or to calculate by intineraries ? I supposed that I'll need to calculate all itineraries with returned points? DirectionsRequest API? Thanks! :)

• Code for adding Content Controls Word 2007 C#

  Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has any idea how I can add Content Controls to a Word Document (Office 2007) from the Document Task/Action Pane via C#. The goal is the following: I want to have categorized information in the Task/Action Pane and have the user fill out the info there. Once they have filled out that information they'll click on a button and it will insert content Controls into the Word Document that has that Data. The reason I want to use Content Controls is because the data will be bound to a database. Is this possible? I would like links that do this without WordProcessingML or OpenXML. There has to be a way to do this via server side code and such that doesn't require long blocks of ,, etc. Thanks!

• Releasing an app - Developed on one account, releasing/approving on another

  Hi there, We have developed an application for a company who want to release it under their own account. It has been developed on our account and has had provisioning profiles attached to it from our own account. What is the best way to do this? Do I have to send them the xCode project and talk them through how to attack a provisioning profile to the project? Or can I just get their login details and create a provisioning profile from the Mac in the office and do it for them? Or is there a "transfer to different account" option? Many thanks!

• Custom date time picker for Windows Forms that is locked to GMT time

  Using Visual Studio 2008, c#, .net 2.0. I have a Windows Forms client application that contains a scheduling UI section, currently this is housed only in the London office with the standard datetime picker control, the selected time is saved in a UK database (GMT) and a London based server aapplication processes the schedules. There is a requirement to roll the client out to various global locations, Hong Kong, New York etc and allow them to setup schedules that run according to GMT time on the London server. I'll have a label on screen saying "note schedules are GMT" what I need is a good way to present a datetime picker that always shows and is in sync with the database server's GMT time regardless of where the client app is running globally. Suggestions on how to acheive this? thanks.

  I have two custom lists in sharepoint with a one to many relationship on a column in both lists. So list A has text column 1 and list B has a lookup column 1' on list A's column 1. I want to display the rows in list A, where column 1 has a match on column 1' and a 2nd column in list B with a specific text string.   I have posted similar question before . I have tried 2 things here .. C# code to make use of MS exchange web service exposed by our companys server, and send emails. THis works in our US offfice ... when i run the same application from our columbian client .. it does not work. C# code to send email a) use senMail C# API b) C# script to manually do the telnet to client smtp outgoing email server and send emails. BOth work in our US office .... but does not work when run from columnbian client location I need a solution asap ... pls help ..

• Appcelerator Vs. MonoTouch - Which one is best for a .NET developer ?

  Hi All, I'm a .NET developer with 10 years experience developing Web & Mobile Apps. I'm looking to branch into iPhone (and possibly Android) development. I'm looking at two products: Appcelerator Titanium (http://www.appcelerator.com/) and MonoTouch (http://monotouch.net/) I like MonoTouch because of it's standing in the Mono development communitity and it's C#. In saying that Appcelerator looks very straight forward using HTML and Javascript and targets Android too (which is overtaking the iPhone). The apps I'm looking to develop are line of business applications with data entry, syncing with back office, etc. Can anyone give their opinion on the pro's / con's of using these tools or any experiences. • VS2012 equivalent of Eclipse's default Ctrl-Shift-O?

  I'm used to Java (in Eclipse), which has its import statements, but I'm writing a DLL in Visual C# (in Visual Studio 2012), which has its using statements. I'm used to Eclipse's default keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-O, which updates the list of import statements in the Java perspective, deleting unused imports and adding necessary imports found on the build path. Is there an equivalent operation in VS2012 with VC#? I've just been selecting the word, opening the Office-style popup, and added the "using" statement that way, but it conflicts with my workflow (read: I'm lazy and I like having my shortcuts).

• deploying vb.net app with database on server

  I have an application that accesses a sql server 2008 database. The server and database is stored on my local harddrive and I would like to learn to scale this up to having multiple users in our office access the application which I will i deploy on a server. For now the database will stay on my pc until I am ready to put it on a dedicated server for myself but for now how do I allow the application still to access my database.   Long before you practice writing readable code, what "magic numbers" you still remember up to this day? here's some of my list: 72 80 75 77 13 32 27 - up down left right enter space escape 1 2 4 128 - blue green red blink 67h 33h 17h - interrupt for EMS, mouse, printer function AH 9, interrupt 21 alt+219 for block ASCII alt+164 ñ 90 NOP 13 10 carriage return, line feed ascii 1 and 2 face, ascii 3 heart. no not this heart: <3 :-) debug -o72,10 -o71,12 clears the BIOS password. I don't know what those numbers mean, it's like a trade secret that gets shared with each other during college days. ascii 7 sounds a beep P.S. Somehow, remembering some of these magic numbers can help you in some tech problems, your keyboard is broken, the office pal's keyboard doesn't have accented characters. An anecdote, during college, one of my friend asked me how to remove the newlines in his Word document. Not having used Word so much then, I somehow "intuitively" guessed to find ^013 and replace it with blank. Well it works :-)

  In my area of business - back office IT for a financial institution - it is very common for a software component to carry a global configuration around, to log it's progress, to have some kind of error handling / computation short circuit... Things that can be modelled nicely by Reader-, Writer-, Maybe-monads and the like in Haskell and composed together with monad transformers. But there seem to some drawbacks: The concept behind monad transformers is quite tricky and hard to understand, monad transformers lead to very complex type signatures, and they inflict some performance penalty. So I'm wondering: Are monad transformers best practice when dealing with those common tasks mentioned above?

• .NET Excel Interop - Why aren't my Footers displaying in my printed output file?

  I'm working with C# and Office 2007's Excel Interop API. I'm opening an Excel file, applying some formatting and then sending it to the printer. I've got a problem, though. The Footer text doesn't appear to be printing. If I check the PageSetup.RightFooter property, I can see the expected Page Number in the Footer. That Page Number doesn't appear anywhere on the printed output sheet. When I print using Excel, though, they appear. Does anyone know why my Footer text is not appearing? Here's my code.   I'm currently taking on a new project at home. In this project I'm going to be generating HTML emails. For this purpose, I believe XSL to be a good candidate. However, I have heard people say that XSL is a dead language, and if it's not that it is on it's way out. In fact, MS has been very leary to support XSL 2.0. Personally I feel that any time you are going from text to text, it is a great tool. Such as: Generating HTML e-mails Creating Open Office Docs Generating another XML doc What are your thoughts? Is it dead, or is it still a viable, usefull tool?

  I am working on a project that is based on Urdu language in Ubuntu platform. I'm using Python language and have almost achieved my task. The problem is that, the Urdu text is rendered in reverse order. For example, consider the word ??? (which means work) consisting of the three letters: ? , ? , and ? The output is rendered in reverse order as ??? consisting of the three letters: ?, ?, and ? When copying this text to Open Office or opening the generated XML file in Firefox, the generated result is absolutely desired. I Am using Python 2.6 IDLE, its working perfect with Windows platform, which clearly shows its not the problem of IDLE. Am working on TKINTER GUI library. How can this problem be solved?

• Should I start a General Software Developer User Group? [closed]

I've found a Linux user group, and a .Net user group, but I'd like to spend my time outside of the office learning about Python, Android, JQuery -- mostly things that aren't owned by .Net. I'm debating trying to start another user group of some sort there, primarily to attract programmers who use technologies other than .Net. • How to read custom file properties in c#

  I'm looking for a way to read document properties in C#. I've heard about dsofile.dll, but it seems like an old COM wrapper, and was wondering if there is something more modern for the .NET framework/C#. What I'm actually reading is not an office document file, but a Solidworks .SLDDRW file, that has Custom properties. You can view and change these in Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the file, and going to the Properties window, Custom tab. Anyone know how to read these custom properties in C# / .NET 3.5? Thanks!
