• Setting Cursor property has no effect (C#)

  Hello, I have a class that I've derived from System.Windows.Forms.Panel, and my application has a main form with one of these panels. On the whole, the panel works great! The only thing I'm having trouble with is setting the cursor. Whether I'm setting it to one of the static members of the Cursors class (Default, WaitCursor, etc.) or setting it to a custom cursor that I've loaded from a resource, the end result is the same: it does nothing. I still see the default mouse pointer, no matter what. This line of code is inside a method of my panel-derived class: this.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor; I can set a break point there, and see that this line is being hit when I expect it to. I've also created an override for the OnCursorChanged method, and set a breakpoint in there just to see if it's being triggered. I can verify that both breakpoints are being hit when I expect them to. However, the cursor just never changes. There must be something that I'm missing. Does anyone have any ideas? P.S. I also did try setting Current.Cursor as well, however that did not help.

• Why isn't this json/jquery function returning 10 results and why does it return 0 sometimes?

  Hey guys, quick question. I have a json function returning results from a php query but it is not working out because it seems to keep executing the query until all results are returned and sometimes returns 0 results (if I keep refreshing page, it returns 0 results sometimes). I want to limit results returned to 10 so I was wondering if anyone could point out the error of my code. Would really appreciate it. PS I am positive the query is returning the correct results and only 10 on its own. It just seems to be this one function that is not working out.   C++0x thread library or Boost.thread define a non-member variadic template function that locks all mutex at once that helps to avoid deadlock. template <class L1, class L2, class... L3> void lock(L1&, L2&, L3&...); The same can be applied to a non-member variadic template function try_lock_until, which locks all the mutex until a given time is reached that helps to avoid deadlock like lock(...). template <class Clock, class Duration, class L1, class L2, class... L3> void try_lock_until( const chrono::time_point<Clock,Duration>& abs_time, L1&, L2&, L3&...); I have an implementation that follows the same design as the Boost function boost::lock(...). But this is quite complex. As I can be missing something evident I wanted to know if: is there a simple timed lock algorithm avoiding deadlock on multiple mutexes? If no simple implementation exists, can this justify a proposal to Boost? P.S. Please avoid posting complex solutions.

  I am trying to find offset of all occurrences with preg_match_all e.g. $haystack = 'aaaab'; $needle = 'aa'; preg_match_all('/' . $needle . '/', $haystack, $matches); $matches is Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => aa [1] => 0 ) [1] => Array ( [0] => aa [1] => 2 ) ) ) It returns offset of first and second group of aa ("aa" "aa" "b") from the haystack, while I am expecting it to return "aa" starting at index 1 as well. Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => aa [1] => 0 ) [1] => Array ( [0] => aa [1] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [0] => aa [1] => 2 ) ) ) Is there a way I can fix the regex or use some other function (which accepts regex) to get this done? PS: I know strpos which can do this, but I have few more things to search for hence will go with preg_match_all.

  Is it possible to calculate multiple aggregates based on differing where clauses? For instance: Let's say I have two tables, one for Invoice and one for InvoiceLineItems. The invoice table has a total field for the invoice total, and each of the invoice line item records in the InvoiceLineItems table contains a field that denotes whether the line item is discountable or not. I want three sum totals, one where Discountable = 0 and one where Discountable = 1 and one where Discountable is irrelevant. Such that my output would be: InvoiceNumber Total DiscountableTotal NonDiscountableTotal ------------- ----- ----------------- -------------------- 1 53.27 27.27 16.00 2 38.94 4.76 34.18 3... • Strange bug with PHP on Windows 7

  This is the configuration: Windows 7 Home Premium, XAMPP 1.7.3 (Apache 2.2.14 , PHP 5.3.1), Firefox 3.6 This is the PHP-code in a file named 'test.php' in htdocs: <?php echo('04556-8978765'); ?> On http://localhost/test.php I would expect to see the string 04556-8978765 in the browser. This is not what happens, though. The string appears for a short time and then it disappears altogether. Firebug shows an empty body-tag. However, when I look at page source, the string is there alright. When I change the string in the echo-statement to e.g. 4556-8978765, everything is fine. Internet Explorer 8 does not show this strange behavior. I could not reproduce this with the same Apache/PHP/Firefox configuration on Windows XP. '04556-8978765' is by no means unique. The couple '02065-96047' and '02065-9604' behave exactly the same. Can anybody reproduce this and offer an explanation as to what is going on? PS: If you can not see the string '04556-8978765' in the echo-statement above, look at this post with IE8.

• Please help me with a Power shell Script which rearranges Paths.

  Hi, I have both Sybase and MSFT SQL Servers installed. There is a time when Sybase interferes with MS SQL because they have they have some overlapping commands. So, I need two scripts: A) When runs, script A backs up the current path, grabs all paths that contain sybase or SYBASE or SyBASE (you get the point) in them and move them all at the very end of the path, while preserving the order. B) When it runs, script B restores the path from back-up. Both script a and script b should affect the path immediately. So, if a.bat that calls patha.ps1, pathb.ps1 looks like so: @REM Old path here call patha.ps1 @REM At this point the effective path should be different. call pathb.ps1 @REM Effective old path again Please let me know if this does not make sense. I am not sure if call command is the best one to use. I have never used P.S. before. I can try to formulate the same thing in Python (I know S.O. users tend to ask for "What have you tried so far"). Well, at this point I am VERY slow at writing anything in Power Shell language. Please help.

For a responsive website, i need to use the same toggle element for both a toggle system for one window width, and another toggle system for a second window width. I.e getting the schema of database from somewhere and then creating a Core Data Object graph? *QuesTion:* Yes thats fine, agreed with all the advantages. But, can anybody can tell practically, what is the benefit of integrating Core Data into project instead of using SQL directly. 1.No need to write SQL boiler plate code [but need to learn Core Data Model (steep curve)] 2.WE can undo and redo changes [but practically who needs it] 3.we can migrate to another schema [that can be done by SQLite as well jus need to add another field into table] 4.For say aggregation on some field in table,in Core Data we need to loop through Core Data Objects whereas in SQLite we need to first write SQLite Boiler Plate Code and then the basic aggregation SQL query,which is easy to write,only length of code will increase...But in case of Core Data (need to learn a lot). So apart from reducing the length of Code,does it actually adds value to project? or in terms of Memory Efficiency,Performance,etc.. If there were two addon items chosen then the addon array will loop twice. Now al I need to do is, How to make $item_type2 and $final_total2 display the value according to the addon id? For now, I have to manually extend the height of the display window to see all the tab items. Your insights/tips are greatly appreciated. PS: if you know how to make the vertical scroll bar appears (without adding scroll bar to my control) as soon as the tab items exceed the window height, I can settle for that if there are no answers for my original intent.

• Java Socket - how to catch Exception of BufferedReader.readline()

Therefore T2 does the following: T1.running = false; socket.close(); Here is this scenario for which i couldn't find a solution: T1 is active and waiting for some input to read i.e. blocking. context switching T2 is active and sets running to false, closes the socket context switching because T1 was blocking and T2 closed the socket, T1 throws an Exception. What i want is to catch this SocketException. i can't put a try/catch(SocketException) in T1.run(). So how can i catch it in T1's running-method? If it's not possible to catch it in T1's running, then how can i catch it elsewhere? PS: "Another question about the Thread Debugging" Normally when i debug the code step by step, i lose the 'active running line' on a context switch. Let's say i'm in line 20 of T1, context switch happens, let's assume the program continues from the 30.line of T2, but the debugger does not go/show to the 30.line of T2, instead the 'active running line' vanishes. So i lose the control over the code. I use Eclipse for Java and Visual Studio for C#. So what is the best way to track the code while debugging on a context switch ?

• Database solution for 200million writes/day, monthly summarization queries

  Hello. I'm looking for help deciding on which database system to use. (I've been googling and reading for the past few hours; it now seems worthwhile to ask for help from someone with firsthand knowledge.) I need to log around 200 million rows (or more) per 8 hour workday to a database, then perform weekly/monthly/yearly summary queries on that data. The summary queries would be for collecting data for things like billing statements, eg. "How many transactions of type A did each user run this month?" (could be more complex, but that's the general idea). I can spread the database amongst several machines, as necessary, but I don't think I can take old data offline. I'll definitely need to be able to query a month's worth of data, maybe a year. These queries would be for my own use, and wouldn't need to be generated in real-time for an end-user (they could run overnight, if needed). Does anyone have any suggestions as to which databases would be a good fit? P.S. Cassandra looks like it would have no problem handling the writes, but what about the huge monthly table scans? Is anyone familiar with Cassandra/Hadoop MapReduce performance?

• Choose 'better' or more familiar technologies for a new project?

  I am looking to start work on a brand-new project, something I've been thinking about for a while as my first independent sellable project. It's broadly speaking a web-based service application, and my first choice, server-language is quite easy... I know Java pretty well from working on Java web-apps in the past. However my experience doing web-apps involved JSP, Servlets and JSTL... I know the ideas behind newer technologies like Hibernate/Spring but have never used them. So we wrote our own DAOs, handled AJAX by writing special mini-JSP pages that generated XML/JSON pages, etc. I'm not hugely into the idea that Spring/Hibernate are the 'only' or 'right' way to do any Java web-project, but they are widely used. On the other hand, not only would trying to learn these increase initial development time, but I'd be using my learning attempts to build a production system. I remember one of Joel's early articles said (I'll paraphrase since I can't find it) "regardless what's cool, always use the technologies that the lead developer (or dev team?) knows best" I wondered what people thought about that? ps: should this be CW?

• saving mySql row checkpoint in table ?

  hello, I am having a wee problem, and I am sure there is a more convenient/simpler way to achieve the solution, but all searches are throw in up a blanks at the moment ! I have a mysql db that is regularly updated by php page [ via a cron job ] this adds or deletes entries as appropriate. My issue is that I also need to check if any details [ie the phone number or similar] for the entry have changed, but doing this at every call is not possible [ not only does is seem to me to be overkill, but I am restricted by a 3rd party api call limit] Plus this is not critical info. So I was thinking it might be best to just check one entry per page call, and iterate through the rows/entires with each successive page call. What would be the best way of doing this, ie keeping track of which entry/row in the table that the should be checked next? I have 2 ideas of how to implement this: 1 ) The id of current row could be save to a file on the server [ surely not the best way] 2) an extra boolean field [check] is add to the table, set to True on the first entry and false to all other. Then on each page call it; finds 'where check = TRUE' runs the update check on this row, 'set check = FALSE' 'set [the next row] check = TRUE' Si this the best way to do this, or does anyone have any better sugestion ? thanks in advance ! .k PS sorry about the title

  Hi, I've been going through the Rails Guides, but have gotten stuck on associations after going through validations and migrations. So, I have the following models Job and Person, where a Person can have many jobs. I know that in reality there'd be a many-to-many, but I'm trying to get my handle on this first. class Job < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :people end and class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :jobs end Here's the schema ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version => 20110108185924) do create_table "jobs", :force => true do |t| t.string "occupation" t.boolean "like" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.integer "person_id" end create_table "people", :force => true do |t| t.string "first_name" t.string "last_name" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end end Is there some I can do the following j = Job.first; j.Person? • App Crashing Inspite of Being ARC Enabled

  I have been working on an iOS App for sometime now and its almost ready to submit. However, when I gave it to few people for testing purposes (running iOS 5)..they reported cases where the app crashes and the home screen is displayed on the phone OR a frozen app screen appears with no response whatsoever The app is ARC enabled and Xcode shows no warnings. So, I'm relli tensed about what's going wrong. I have declared properties in the following fashion: @property (nonatomic) IBOutlet UILabel *devCountLabel; @property (nonatomic) IBOutlet UIView *splashView; Likewise other properties are declared. Could anyone provide a solution ASAP. It is mainly a network based app and thus, CoreData usage is minimum.. Anyway, I'm running out of time..So Please provide a fix asap..oh and thanks a ton for it. PS: The App doesn't crash in the simulator, so I'm guessing it has something related to memory. And the crashes are random. So, repeating a set of steps to reproduce the crash doesn't help either. For Eg. When I click a button, modalViewControllerAnimation results in normal case. Now this occurs as expected most of the time and freezes the app other times.

• C# WPF Show Image from Mysql

  i'm a student and i am bad at programing. I saved the images in my mysql database for each player. I created a program where I can list some soccer players from my database. When i click on a listed player in datagrid, a new window appears with the information about the player. Everything works, but now i want a picture of the selected player to be displayed on the information window from the database. Can anybody help me? • Pass command line arguments to JUnit test case being run programmatically

  I am attempting to run a JUnit Test from a Java Class with: JUnitCore core = new JUnitCore(); core.addListener(new RunListener()); core.run(classToRun); Problem is my JUnit test requires a database connection that is currently hardcoded in the JUnit test itself. What I am looking for is a way to run the JUnit test programmatically(above) but pass a database connection to it that I create in my Java Class that runs the test, and not hardcoded within the JUnit class. Basically something like JUnitCore core = new JUnitCore(); core.addListener(new RunListener()); core.addParameters(java.sql.Connection); core.run(classToRun); Then within the classToRun: @Test Public void Test1(Connection dbConnection){ Statement st = dbConnection.createStatement(); ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery("select total from dual"); rs.next(); String myTotal = rs.getString("TOTAL"); //btw my tests are selenium testcases:) selenium.isTextPresent(myTotal); } I know about The @Parameters, but it doesn't seem applicable here as it is more for running the same test case multiple times with differing values. I want all of my test cases to share a database connection that I pass in through a configuration file to my java client that then runs those test cases (also passed in through the configuration file). Is this possible? P.S. I understand this seems like an odd way of doing things.

• (PHP) How do I get XMLReader behave like SimpleXML with Xpath? (Large directory like XML file)

  So, I've got this huge XML file (10MB and up) that I want to parse and I figured instead of using SimpleXML, I'd better use XMLReader. Since the performance should be way better, right? But since XMLReader doesn't work with XPath... The xml is like this: <root name="bookmarks"> * <dir name="A directory"> <link name="blablabla"> <dir name="Sub directory"> ... </dir> * </dir> * <link name="another link"> </root> With SimpleXML combined with Xpath, I would simple do like: $xml = simplexml_load_file('/xmlFile.xml'); $xml-xpath('/root[@name]/dir[@name="A directory"]/dir[@name="Sub directory"]'); Which is so simple. But how do I do this with just using XMLReader? Ps. I'm converting the resulting node to DOM/SimpleXML to get its inner contents. Like this: $node = $xr-expand(); $dom = new DomDocument(); $n = $dom-importNode($node, true); $dom-appendChild($n); $selectedRoot = simplexml_import_dom($dom); Is this ok? ... Thanks!
