    I would like to know is it possible to save some, for example,simplemath.js file with function ADD(a, b) { return a + b; } simple function, run opera's or some other browser's javascript console, include somehow this (simplemath.js) file, call ADD(2, 5), and get a result in console or execute javascript code on current web page and manipulate with it's content.   • Windows - How to remotely watch log files

    I would like to look at some log files solely via the console on a standard Windows 7 machine. The logs are created by schedulded tasks and I find it a hazzle to use VNC for this purpose. What technology should I look at? Powershell, Cygwin via ssh or something else? The log files are written using log4Net - thus there might also be an easy way to reconfigure it to create events or something else for remote display.

    I have a signup page on a subdomain like: https://signup.mysite.com It should only be accessible via HTTPS but I'm worried people might somehow stumble upon it via HTTP and get a 404. My html/server block in nginx looks like this: html { server { listen 443; server_name signup.mysite.com; ssl on; ssl_certificate /path/to/my/cert; ssl_certificate_key /path/to/my/key; ssl_session_timeout 30m; location / { root /path/to/my/rails/app/public; index index.html; passenger_enabled on; } } } What can I add so that people who go to http://signup.mysite.com get redirected to https://signup.mysite.com ? (FYI I know there are Rails plugins that can force SSL but was hoping to avoid that)

  • Windows Console .exe won't run if it's downloaded from the internet

    I have a nightly job on Windows Server 2003 that automatically updates itself by downloading its .exe from Amazon S3. I've noticed that when it performs the download and tries to run the newly downloaded .exe, it is immediately kicked back to the command line without actually running anything. I can verify this by sticking the new version of the code directly on the server and watching it execute successfully, then uploading it to the "update" server, running the bootstrapper then running the .exe and observing it fail to execute. I can only assume that this is due to Windows protecting me from running code from outside its trusted zone. How does a fella go about configuring it to allow code from this particular external location to execute? Thanks!

  • What's the typical latency for key strokes using an ssh connection on a local wifi network?

    I develop software on a Macbook Air 1.6 Ghz but find running Rails test suites and generators on this computer very slow. I'm thinking about buying a Linux tower to put on my local wireless network to do my Rails development on. I would want to use my Macbook Air and ssh into the Linux box and do my development with Gnu Screen, vim, etc. Can I expect the keystroke and echo latency for a ssh session between two machines on a local wireless network to be negligible? Does anyone develop using this kind of local setup?

  • Server unresponsive, messages shown on console but not in log files

    I'm using Ubuntu Server 10.04.4, and once in a while the server hangs (once a month) and is totally unresponsive. The tty is flooded with messages like these. The problem is that these messages are not in my log files after reboot. How to log these messages so that I can analyze them later? In the current logs I can't see anything that would tell me why this is happening. I would also appreciate if anybody can tell from those messages what's going on. This server is a guest virtual machine. The host server is also Ubuntu server 10.04 with KVM/QEMU.

  • Advanced Terminal / Console apps for Mac OS X?

    I use a lot of command line programs, very often with similar arguments. Can anyone recommend an application or a workflow that allows me to store often used shell commands and search through my recent commands, using a GUI? I have commands that I use very often (eg. rsync a specific directory to a server) and other commands that I use less often. Creating shell scripts for every code snippet I might reuse seems a bit awkward. Especially for programs that I use seldomly, I end up reading the docs over and over again, because I forgot to write down the exact shell command. Ideally I would like an app that's just like Terminal.app, but provides some kind of history and snippet management. What do you use to keep track of shell commands?

  • Apache Bench length failures

    I am running Apache Bench against a Ruby on Rails XML-RPC web service that is running on Passenger via mod_passenger. All is fine when I run 1000 requests without concurrency. Bench indicates that all requests successfully complete with no failures. When I run Bench again with a concurrency level of 2, however, requests start to fail due to content length. I am seeing failures rates of 70-80% when using concurrency. This should not happen. The requests I am sending to the web service should always results in the same response. I have used cURL to verify that this is in fact the case. My Rails log is not showing any errors as well so I am curious to see what content Bench actually received and interpreted as a failure. Is there any way to print these failures?

    For example if I have 1) host adress 2) login 3) password, I am entering by SSH on ruby on rails hosting, then how can i be sured that this hosting belongs to a specific domain? for example how can I know if www.site.com - belongs to some specific hosting to which I have access. I am asking this because I have access to hosting of ruby on rails, and when i modify files, there is no changes, i've tried to use the files "script", "serv", "restart.txt" - by ssh: touch tmp/restart.txt ./serv restart script restart nothing of the above helped...and I don't know what to do, any ideas?

My nginx.conf regarding my app looks something like this: server { listen 80; server_name myapp.mycompany.com; root /opt/apps/myapp_large_name/public; passenger_enabled on; client_max_body_size 4M; } So when I access myapp.mycompany.com.br it access to my rails app under /opt/apps/myapp_large_name/public. I want to be able to configure a subpath to access to another app (in this case, monit). I want something like that: myapp.mycompany.com.br/monit access the monit app. Is it possible?

  • How do I display the Java console?

    I'm aware of the fact that you can set it to "show" in the Java control panel, but that's not what I'm asking about. I'm curious about the other options... "Do not start" is pretty straightforward, but what about "Hide"? That would seem to imply that it is indeed running. If so, how can I make it show on demand from the hidden state? Reason: It's annoying to have it open ALL the time, hoping there's a way to (preferably via keystroke) bring it from "hidden" to "shown" state for occasional debugging.

    My application requires to keep large data objects in session. There are like 3-4 data objects each created by parsing a csv containing 150 X 20 cells having strings of 3-4 characters. My application shows this error- "marshal data too short". I tried this- Deleting the old session table. Deleting the old migration for session table. On the Linux server I see only one message to the PuTTY console, so where would that System.err message go to?

I have been using TextMate on my Mac and would love to find something that even comes close to that experience. My Ubuntu laptop is a little old, and doesn't have a lot of memory, so I need something lightweight. I don't need/want a bloated IDE because the performance on my slow laptop would be terrible.     Hi, everybody! I've googled some tutorials, browsed some SO answers, and was unable to find a recipe for my problem. I'm writing a web site which is supposed to display almost realtime stock chart. Data is stored in constantly updating MySQL database, I wrote a find_by_sql query code which fetches all the data I need to get my chart drawn. Everything is ok, except performance - it takes from one second to one minute for different queries to fetch all the data from the database, this time includes necessary (My)SQL-server side calculations. This is simply unacceptable. I got the following idea: if the data is queried from the MySQL server one point a time instead of entire dataset, it takes only about 1-100ms to get an individual point. I imagine the data fetch process might be browser-driven. After the user presses the button in order to get a chart drawn, controller makes one request to the database and renders, say, a progress bar, say 1% ready. When the browser gets the response, it immediately makes an (ajax) request, and the server fetches the next piece of data and renders "2%". And so on, until all the data is ready and the server displays the requested chart. Could this be implemented in rails+js, is there a tutorial for solving a similar problem on the Web? I suppose if the thing is feasible at all, somebody should have already done this before. I have read several articles about ajax, I believe I do understand general principles, but never did nontrivial ajax programming myself. Thanks for your time!

  • Why can i read dirty rows in MySql

    I cant believe this, i always throught the below would be concurrency safe. I write to a row in one transaction and i am able to read the dirty value from another transaction/command/connection! Why is this possible (not my main question) isnt this not desired and cause more troubles!?! Anyways, i expected that once i write to a row nothing else will be able to read to the row until the transaction is finished. And at least if the row can be still read that the clean (original) value will be read. (but maybe that would cause problems as well if the transaction doesnt use the newly commited data from the other transaction when it is ran) I would like count to == 11. I thought this would be safe in all variants of sql.     I'm developing in rails on my computer. I'm just going along with what tutorials say, and I simply cannot find anything about how to use launchy during development on the Internet .. period. There are two problems: I'd like launchy to open Chromium (it opens Firefox). Chromium is set as my default browser. I save files constantly, and launchy will run each time, which is terrible. Is there any way to only get it to run when you actually want? This also applies to guard, but it's not nearly as annoying with guard.

  • error when installing rmagic gem on Ubuntu 12.04 for Ruby on Rails

    0 down vote favorite I am trying to get my Ruby on Rails application working and installing RMagic gem. But I get an error that says "Can't install RMagick 2.13.1. Can't find the ImageMagick library or one of the dependent libraries." Altough I have ImageMagick installed with its dependences. Terminal log : http://pastebin.com/vcgkbwZR I even tried to installed RMagic from Synaptic, but I get the same error when I run "bundle" command. Through my search, some people had problem with lib dependencies, but I believed I have them all installed. Another solution I found is this ( error installing RMagick from gem ) a little bit old and not sure if it is going to work for 12.04. BUT, I don't know where those configurations should go.
