  • Can a .Net 1.1 client call a .Net 2.0 web service? If so, how?

    We have finally upgraded our web services from .Net 1.1 to .Net 2.0/3.5. One of the clients that calls these web services is run as a windows service. It is probable that the server will be upgraded at customer sites and the windows service will not (at least for some time). Is it possible to massage my .Net 2.0 web services so they will correctly service the calls from the .Net 1.1 client? It doesn't happen in my test environment and I can't find any docs about it online. Thanks for your help, -colin-

  • Best way to unit-test WCF REST/SOAP service while dynamically generating stubs

    I have a webservice written with WCF 4.0 that exposes REST and SOAP functions, and I want to set up my unit tests so that as I work on my web services I can quickly test by having the test framework start up the service, outside of IIS, and then do the tests. I want it to be dynamically generated as I am not certain what the interface will look like, and it is easier to not worry about having to generate the stubs before I start the tests. But, I couldn't get Groovy to work with my web service, so I am curious if Iron Python or Iron Ruby would work well for this, or is there another .NET language that may work well for this.

Adobe's LiveCycle Data Services looks very promising, I have found numerous tutorials/videos that shows how fast an application can be build by having methods/functions auto-generated. What are the best-practices, is it good/bad to use those auto-generated methods, they can really save a lot of time.   • Team Foundation Error: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized

    Hello everybody. I'm trying to connect to the Team Foundation Server's ClientService.asmx web services. Over here, the TFS has webservices for retrieving work items, queries, metadata and more...a quite complete and useful set of information to get. My problem is that trying to access these services leads to an error: TF51313: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized I assume it has something to do with the RequestHeader Id structure. I give it a GUID inside the code I'm working on, but I don't know how correct it is...or what value it should have to begin with. Note: I can't use the TFS API/SDK because I am building a mobile application. Also an application on the TFS server side to communicate with the API and expose web services is not an option. Thanks.

    Is it possible to stop all started services when the user hits the Home Button? I use: startService(new Intent(ClassName.this, ClassName2.class)); stopService(new Intent(ClassName.this, ClassName2.class)); This means I will have to somehow add the 'stopService()' for 7+ of my app classes I've researched this topic and I think there's 'onTerminate' but still not sure how this should be implemented.   • How do you prevent brute force attacks on RESTful data services

    Hi, I'm about to implement an RESTful API to our website (based on WCF data services, but that probably does not matter). All data offered via this API belongs to certain users of my server, so I need to make sure only those users have access to my resources. For this reason, all requests have to be performed with a login/password combination as part of the request. What's the recommended approach for preventing brute force attacks in this scenario? I was thinking of logging failed requests denied due to wrong credentials and ignoring requests originating from the same IP after a certain threshold of failed requests has been exceeded.   • Is that a RESTFUL MVC Web Service?

    I am aware of Web Services and WCF but I have generic question with services.I have a ASP.NET MVC Application which does some basic functionality. I just have a controller in which I am passing it the records and serializing the information to XML using XML Serializer. Then I return this information to the browser and it displays me the XML i got from the Controller Action. So I get the XML representation of my Class(Database Object) in XML and I am to give the URL of this application to the client and access and pull the information. Is this a Service then? I mean in the end all the Clients need is the Xml representation through services also right? I am not that experienced and probably being very silly but please help me out...if I provide xml this way to the client is that a Service ? Or is there something I need to undersatand here?.

I'm already considering moving away from the singleton model, but is there anything wrong with my approach? Is there an explanation for this behavior and a way out of it?

    This is my first post, so let me start by saying HELLO! I am writing a windows service to monitor the running state of a number of other windows services on the same server. I'd like to extend the application to also print some of the memory statistics of the services, but I'm having trouble working out how to map from a particular ServiceController object to its associated Diagnostics.Process object, which I think I need to determine the memory state. I found out how to map from a ServiceController to the original image name, but a number of the services I am monitoring are started from the same image, so this won't be enough to determine the Process. Does anyone know how to get a Process object from a given ServiceController? Perhaps by determining the PID of a service? Or else does anyone have another workaround for this problem?   • Error when calling Render method on reporting services 2008

    Hi, I've moved my web application to a new server, when it calls the render method on the reporting services 2008 web service it brings back the error "Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
