  • trying to install ubuntu touch to nexus 4 - can't connect device (14.04 in virtual box on mac)

    - by Fiona Cox
I'm trying to install Ubuntu touch to a nexus 4. I've followed all the steps so far, downloaded the packages and gotten the phone ready, but now I got to the step of connecting it to the computer [under 'Enable USB Debugging'], but it's not listed when I try $ adb devices (I tried the 'adb kill-server' command first too, but nothing is listed). I'm sure it's something simple I'm forgetting, but can anyone help please? I have debugging enabled. Running Trusty in VirtualBox on MacBook. Thanks!

  • How do I write find/write the script to restore a guest user in Lion (Mac OS X)?

    - by Avry
In Mac OS X 10.7, you cannot have a guest user if you encrypt the entire drive. An alternative is to create a psuedo-guest user. One of the downsides is that the feature where the guest user is restored to original state no longer exists. How do I write a script that restores the User Template found in /System/Library/User Template/English.lproj? I would also have to figure how to activate this script either at login or on logout.

  • Alt+click-drag window resizing on a Mac? (Similar to X-Windows)

    - by Aaron F.
Is there a way I can get this behavior on Mac OS? alt + right-click-drag will resize the window, relative to where you've clicked within the window and the window's center alt + left-click-drag will move the window, regardless of where you've clicked within the window. There's a Windows port of this behavior as well: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/DLL/wm.aspx

  • Why aren't there native Javascript interpreters for Windows/Mac/Linux?

    - by MebAlone
It seems to me it would be very useful to use Javascript for general server side scripting tasks as it has more or less the same features as Perl and Python. But AFAIK there are no generally available Javascript interpreters for the major machine architectures. I guess the other problem may be lack of libraries but surely these would come if the interpreters were there. Google's V8 maybe could be a starting point. Does anyone think we'll see this soon?

  • How can I run the latest version of Chrome on Mac OS X?

    - by eagle
In a bug post I sent to the chrome developers, a developer sent me the message: We don't see this difference in the new builds of Chrome. Checked in 6.0.437.2 dev. Can you check and confirm again? I'm wondering how can I run the latest (development) version of Chrome for Mac OS X? Ideally I don't want to build the project.

  • What is your list of programs to install to Mac OS X after a fresh install?

    - by marked
Similar to the Windows question, but for Mac OS X. I am looking for others' list of program that absolutely must be installed to a fresh install of Windows before going any further. I hope to compile a list here to use as reference for all new Windows installs/restores. See this Question. I am also looking into automating this, but actually looking for the most recent version from each site. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

  • How can I migrate all keyboard shortcuts from one mac to another?

    - by cwd
I have a lot of custom keyboard shortcuts and will be migration Macs. I tested Migration Assistant and it did not seem to get these. I read somewhere that they are stored in the individual application's plist files in the ~/Library/Application Support folder but even after copying a few of these folders over the shortcuts do not seem to follow. How can I get all of the keyboard shortcuts migrated to a new mac?

  • Is this buffer overflow working on Mac OSX? [migrated]

    - by cobie
Was reading through some text and playing around with attempting to write past the size of an array in C i.e buffer overflow. The text indicates that whenever you attempt to write to say array[5] when the length of the array is 5 then you get a segmentation fault but I dont seem to be getting that When using the code below. The code actually runs. #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> int main () { int i; int array[5] = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}; for (i = 0; i <= 255; i++) { array[i] = 10; } int len = sizeof(array) / sizeof(int); printf("%d\n", len); printf("%d\n", array[254]); } On execution of the last statement, a 10 is printed. Am wondering whether this is a vulnerability or if there is something I am missing. I am running the code from iterm2 on a macbook pro.

  • Is there an ld-linux.so equivalent for mac?

    - by Matt
I'm using the following command on Linux to change the default library path temporarily for the program being run: /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --library-path /home/me/libs./myProgram This runs myProgram and makes it check /home/me/libs first for its dynamically linked libraries. So I want to do this on Mac too.. is there an equivalent? I'd like to avoid setting environment variables if possible.

  • What is a good XML Editor for Mac OS X?

    - by g.
I am looking for a good lightweight XML viewer/editor for Mac OS X. It would only be for occasional use, so free options are preferable though paid options aren't out of the question. It would be used primarily for reviewing and making small changes to XML files and would require the following basic features. easily create a new file from clipboard (copy/paste) re-format (pretty print) xml syntax highlighting validation find

  • Is there a ctrl+tab equivalent on Mac OS X?

    - by olle
I want to cycle trough the windows of the currently active application on Mac OS X. Some applications respond to ctrl+tab but they all seem to do something else. I want to switch between the Entourage mainscreen and the message I am writing for instance. Is there a such a keyword shortcut?
