  • Searching and sorting by a float field with thinking sphinx

    I'm using thinking sphinx to for search on a rails app. I have a float field called 'height'. I need to be able to search this field for exact values (i.e. exactly 6.0, not 6.5). I also need to be able to sort on the field. What I have so far: indexes height, :sortable => true Problem: doesn't sort properly, returns 6.0 and 6.5 if I search for '6'

    HI, I used to have PHP websites and using url rewriting on picture to have SEO friendly urls, On php I had links like /image/blablablabla-1234-blablabla rewriting to: /image/1234.jpg by using a url rewrite rule on apache .htaccess file. Now I totally switched to ruby on rails and I would like to know what is the best way to do that on RoR? I am hosting websites on apache with passenger. Thanks in advance

  • RoR - Associations into practise - forms (View)

    I'm learning Ruby on Rails. I'm using some associations (has_many :through, ...) But i'm having some problems with it when i'm combining my views. How exactly do i combine these nested forms? Can i do this with partial forms and where do i have to write extra code for this? I have seen examples only use the "view" and others also edit the controller.... An example would be very nice :-)

  • Singleton with eager initialization

    I have class X that takes much time to initialize itself. I want to make that class singleton and force its creation when rails application starts. I've made the singleton: class X @@instance = nil def self.instance if @@instance.nil? @@instance = X.new puts 'CREATING' end return @@instance end private_class_method :new end The problem is that every time I use this class I see 'CREATING' in logs. I've tried to put creation of class in initializers directory but it doesn't work either.

  • validation of password with ()-=_+

    I am not able to validate passord with ()-=_+ , i.e it should accept these special characters but its not working when i use the regular expression as `validates_format_of :password, :with => /^[A-Za-z0-9. ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ - + = ]*\z/` its only excepting till * but not accepting ()-=_+ in ruby on rails.

  • Between-request Garbage Collection using Passenger

    We're using Rails 3.0.7 and REE 1.8.7. Long-term, we will be upgrading, but at the moment it's not feasible. Following the advice of several blog posts, we've been tuning our GC, and have settings that work pretty well. But we would really like to run GC outside of the request-response cycle. I've tried patching Passenger per this post, and using the code supplied in this SO question. In both cases, GC does indeed happen between requests. However, every time the between-request GC happens, I see a bunch of this: MONGODB [INFO] Connecting...     Hi there, This might be a stupid questions but I wanted to know what happens if two users edit some data at once and then both click submit at the same time, I assumed Rails handled requests one after the other and so someone would get an error message but is this correct?     I want to start up my Rails development server like this: script/server OFFLINE_MODE=1 and have a method that checks for the presence of that constant: helper_method :offline_mode? def offline_mode? defined?(OFFLINE_MODE) ? true : false end so I can hide stuff in my app when I'm coding without access to the internet.   • When should I think about implementing my User authentication / session?

    After spending some time wireframing my ideas, I want to start building my rails app. However, I'm well aware that later down the line I'd like to consider multiple user accounts. Should I be thinking about the implementation of this from this early stage, or is this something I can implement without too much fuss later? It seems like something that would be stupid to attempt later, but part of me just wants to get the guts of the thing working - a couple of simply forms and writing/reading some stuff from the db.
