• How to use LVM on Rackspace Cloud

  Dear all, I am trying to set up a simple but effective solution to make a backup of my rackspace cloud servers. These servers each run subversion, trac, and some database-backed custom php applications. My idea is to set up a LVM and mount a volume under, say, /srv. In this volume, I keep the data from all applications. Instead of caring about how to back-up each app in a different way (svn hotcopy, trac-admin hotcopy, huge mess for mysql), I simply take an LVM snapshot and back this one up cloud files using the excellent cloudcity script (http://github.com/jspringman/cloudcity/blob/master/cloudcity). The advantage of this solution is that it is quick and easy, and LVM allows to make decent backups. As more apps are added, it should not be required to change the backup script much. The downside, and main point of my question here, is that I am not sure how to get LVM working on Rackspace cloud, because there is only one root volume and no service like Amazon's EBS. I was thinking it may be possible to create a large empty file and use this as a "physical volume". Has anybody done anything like this before? Or do you know why it can never work? • Expanding iSCSI LUNs (NTFS)

  I have a 4TB iSCSI LUN that formated as NTFS in Windows 2008. I've shared this formated volume as a folder over SMB. When the capacity of this volume is not enough, I have to add more iSCSI LUNs, but the end-users must see only the folder that I've shared before. So, when I expand the NTFS volume that is currently 4TB, with more iSCSI LUNS(for example 2 more 4TB LUN), if one of the luns is failed, or missing, will all of my data in the folder be lost? I imagine that the expanding ntfs volume is like RAID 0(striped). if it is like RAID 0, then all my data will be lost when one of the luns is failed, or missing. In brief, there are two questions in here: 1- What will be happened, if one of the luns is missing in an expanded ntfs volume? 2- Is there another way to merge all of iscsi luns as only a folder, in that way the users don't see any extra folder even if I add extra iscsi luns to the file server.(I don't mention about DFS) Regards.

• Unix sort 10x slower with keys specified

  My data: It's a 71 MB file with 1.5 million rows. It has 6 fields, four of which are strings of avg. 15 characters, two are integers. Three of the fields are sometimes empty. All six fields combine to form a unique key - and that's what I need to sort on. Sort statement: sort -t ',' -k1,1 -k2,2 -k3,3 -k4,4 -k5,5 -k6,6 -o a_out.csv a_in.csv The problem: If I sort without keys, it takes 30 seconds. If I sort with keys, it takes 660 seconds. I need to sort with keys to keep this generic and useful for other files that have non-key fields as well. The 30 second timing is fine, but the 660 is a killer. I could theoretically move the temp directory to SSD, and/or split the file into 4 parts, sort them separately (in parallel) then merge the results, etc. But I'm hoping for something simpler since these results are so bad as-is. Any suggestions?

• Outlook 2010 PST not indexing

  I've had this problem for months: Outlook is unable to search recent items in the inbox. I was running Outlook 2010 Beta. I've just moved to the Trial version, hoping to solve the issue. I have tons of PST files but one central one I'm mainly concerned with. As of now it seems none of it is indexing. I've been through all the sites and made all the changes; rebuilt the index, changed the name of the PST files, run scanpst, stopped and started the search services, made sure the Windows features under programs and features has the indexing option checked, etc... Status now says 'zero items left to index', and 150,000 have been indexed. I think I have a lot more files than that, and also nothing is showing up on any search. I'm not sure what else to do? Side question. I'm going to be moving out of Outlook. However I have 10Gigs+ of PST files over the years. I want to merge them and make them search-able in the easiest way possible. Any idea on how to do that? Could I even move over to Thunderbird right now and be able to index and search my PST files? Also, Google Desktop won't index Outlook 2010 email either...

• How do I get yum to see updates to a local repo without cleaning cache?

  I have set up a local yum repository which I use to install test builds. For the testing purposes, my packages are versioned by <svn version number>.<date>.<time> (e.g. 12345.20110908.150404 The trouble is, once I make a new RPM, copy it to the repository directory and run createrepo $REPO_DIR, yum does not see the new RPM as being available. $ cd $REPO_DIR $ ls -1 repodata package-12345.20110908.150404-1.x86_64.rpm package-12345.20110908.174329-1.x86_64.rpm $ createrepo . # ...snip... $ rpm -q package package-12345.20110908.150404-1.x86_64 $ yum list --showduplicates package Installed Packages package.x86_64 12345.20110908.150404-1 @repo Available Packages package.x86_64 12345.20110908.150404-1 repo I can see the updates and grab them if I run yum clean all and then re-fetch the metadata, but I think this just means I need to be doing something else from the repo, as I don't have to do that for other yum repos. How do I need to set up my local repository so that I only need to run yum update from the client without having to clean my yum cache?

• lamp -- edit PHP file but doesn't change web output -- including die()

  Server is standard Linux server on Amazon Web Services. Cent OS 5/Apache/PHP 5.3. No APC. It's worked fine for over a year, but now when I edit some but not all PHP files on the server using vi, the changes don't affect the web output. For example, I edit myfile.php and put a die() at the top, but when I load the page in my web browser, instead of the die() I see the content that would show up if the die() weren't there. svn updating the file in question doesn't help either. Files are on an Amazon EBS partition symlinked to /var/www/html. Just to reiterate -- this has worked fine for a long time. Restarting apache didn't help, nor did rebooting the server. What's weird is that it's just some of the files but not all. File ownership/permissions are the same for the "good" and "problem" files. I'm not a Linux newbie but am at a complete loss with this, and couldn't find anything on Google either. Any hints would be much appreciated!

• apache/httpd responds slower under EL6.1 than EL5.6 (centos)

  I've read through other threads on performance differences between RHEL6 and RHEL5, but none seem a tight match to mine. My issue manifests itself in slightly slower average response time (20ms) per request. I have about 10/10 servers of the same hardware spec with Cent6.1 and Cent5.6. The issue is consistent across the group. I am running Ruby on Rails with Passenger. Apache config is identical (checked out from the same SVN repo) Ruby and Passenger are identical builds. Application is identical and being served traffic round robin. mod_worker An interesting clue from server-status: The Cent6.1 servers have a steady 20-40 threads in the "Reading Request" state while the Cent5.6 servers have around 1. I'm graphing this so I can see it trend over time. I also have a bunch of much newer machines that are significantly faster and are running Cent6.1. They dust all the older machines in response time, but I can see they also have a steady 20-40 threads in the "Reading Request" state. This makes me believe I can get their response time down, if I can figure out what is holding up these requests. My gut is telling me that I need to tune some network setting in sysctl, but I haven't figured it out yet. Help is appreciated.

• How to set up multi users on dev server with git and github

  I'm working on lamp application. We have 2 servers (Debian) Live and Dev. I constantly work on dev main to add new features and fix bugs. When happy all works well I scp the relevant code to the Live system. Database (mysql) is local to each machine. Now this is pretty basic setup really and I want to improve the workflow a bit. I use git and github for version control. Admittedly I've only really used one branch. Their can be 3 different developers who work on the code at different times. We all use the same linux username to connect to the dev server and edit the code directly when needed. I usually then commit and push the code at the end of the day to github. One thing to bare in mind is it isn't easy to run this code on a local machine as there are many apache and subdomain configurations that wouldn't work on a local machine so it is important to work on the dev server not locally. I need to create a new process because we need to have a main trunk now and a branch with a big code re-write. What is the best way to do this. Should I create different unix logins for each developer and set up different working areas on the dev server for there changes? e.g. /var/www/mysite_derek /var/www/mysite_paul /var/www/mysite_mike my thinking is they can do a pull from the main branch and then create there own branch and merge it back in. I'm not sure how this will work though with git locally and with github. will i need to create different github user accounts as well. I'd like to do this the 'right' way and future proof for having lots of potential developers but I also don't want to over complicate it. I simple and elegant solution is preferred. any recommendations or suggestions?

• How can records be deleted without activating the delete trigger?

  Hello there, Since about a month we are experiencing records that are disappearing from our database without any reason. (part of) Our database structure is at http://i.imgur.com/i15nG.png Now users and credentials can never be deleted. We noticed however that thanks to our backups that unfortanetely users disappeared from the database. The users and credentials that disappear appear to be completely random. In order to find out which application deletes this records we created triggers with the following checks: CREATE TRIGGER Credential_SoftDelete ON [Credential] INSTEAD OF DELETE AS DECLARE @message nvarchar(255) DECLARE @hostName nvarchar(30) DECLARE @loginName nvarchar(30) DECLARE @deletedId nvarchar(30) SELECT @deletedId=credentialid FROM deleted; SELECT @hostName=host_name,@loginName=login_name FROM sys.dm_exec_sessions WHERE session_id=@@SPID; SELECT @message = '[FAULT] Credential : ' + USER_NAME() + ' deleted ' +@deletedId + ' on ' + @@SERVERNAME + ' from [' + @hostname + ' by ' + @loginName; EXEC xp_logevent 50001,@message,ERROR GO Now after we added this trigger we hoped to find out which application deletes these credentials by searching in the log files. Unfortanetely the credentials are still deleted and the trigger Credential_SoftDelete is never logged. I did try run a delete on the database where the trigger is installed and where the users have disappeared. I ran the following query on the database: DELETE FROM [User] WHERE userid=296 and the trigger prevented deletion of this user and also logged this in the log events. This was actually on exact the same database where the users disappeared. (so no test copy or something like that) Please note that we also use replication, the type of replication we use is merge replication. How is this possible? Can the fact that we use replication on this database be the cause of this problem?

• Routing connections through VPN based on hostname (not IP range)

  This bugs me immensly. I need to connect to client's network through VPN. But I definitely do not want to send all the traffic through client's network so this option is out of question. What I need basically is for the OS to know that all client's network subdomains (*.example.com) need to go through the VPN connection. I tried a couple of options: Changing order of services and setting the VPN on top, but this works the same as "Send all traffic over VPN connection". Using "VPN on Demand" option from network advanced options, but this feature is quite rubbish to be honest. Seems to work only in Safari (?!) and it doesn't route the connection, but it basically triggers the OS to connect to the selected VPN. The reason I need it to work based on hostnames rather than IP range is simple - my client has a lot of servers inside his network and it's impossible for me to remember all IPs. They are all within a range, but this doesn't help me remembering. Another option would be to put the VPN connection on the bottom of network services and untick "Send all traffic..." and then put all known hostnames in hosts file, but considering there could be hundreds of servers (therefore hostnames and ips too) it ridiculous job. And if new server appears on the network I'd need to edit the hosts file again. Sisyphean labours. However this works on Windows very simply. If a hostname is not available through default network interface, then it seems to try VPN connection and this works brilliantly. So, how can I achieve that on Mac, then? I know client's internal DNS addresses if that is of any help (like directing a certain domains through a different DNS)? PS. Using latest version 10.6.6. PS2. I am using VPN to access intranet, version control servers (svn://), samba shares and for SSH access to servers.

• Can I recover a non-system disk deleted during 2008 R2 setup?

  I've done a truly stupid thing and 'deleted' the data disk on a Server 2008 R2 box. Can I recover it? If so, how? I was rebuilding the box because a motherboard change had broken things. I've built loads of boxes and was going through the standard stuff without much concentration. I got to the disk screen which normally displays the two paritions on the drive: the recovery one and the system one. As normal, I deleted the two things I saw. It was only when two lots of unallocated space didn't merge into one that the full horror of what I'd done hit me. Yes, I've got backups... of the stuff I have space to back up. The real irony is that, earlier in the day, I'd ordered to 1 TB disks to deal with the problem. So, anyway, I'd really like to get this partition back because it'll save me a lot of time. How can I do it?

  This is a hypothetical question. Let's suppose I have two networks, each with its own DNS server. Network A has names a1.local, a2.local, ... and network B has b1.local, b2.local, .... Zone file for each of the networks looks something like this: $ORIGIN local @ IN SOA .... blah blah blah a1 A 1.2.3.4 a2 A 2.3.4.5 ... for A, and $ORIGIN local @ IN SOA .... blah blah blah b1 A 3.4.5.6 b2 A 4.5.6.7 ... for B. Now I also have a regular internet domain example.com and I want to access the machines as a1.A.example.com, b1.B.example.com, ... How will I have to change the configuration of name servers in networks A and B? (in fact I am writing a super-magic DNS server, currently serving A and B separately, but there is a chance that I will have to add the ability to merge the networks; so I'm interested in knowing the problems which lie ahead of me and how to prepare for the possibility)

• Maven does not resolve a local Grails plug-in

  My goal is to take a Grails web application and build it into a Web ARchive (WAR file) using Maven, and the key is that it must populate the "plugins" folder without live access to the internet. An "out of the box" Grails webapp will already have the plugins folder populated with JAR files, but the maven build script should take care of populating it, just like it does for any traditional WAR projects (such as WEB-INF/lib/ if it's empty) This is an error when executing mvn grails:run-app with Grails 1.1 using Maven 2.0.10 and org.grails:grails-maven-plugin:1.0. (This "hibernate-1.1" plugin is needed to do GORM.) [INFO] [grails:run-app] Running pre-compiled script Environment set to development Plugin [hibernate-1.1] not installed, resolving.. That dependency is already included with the stock Grails software that's installed locally, so I just need to figure out how to get my POM file to unpackage that ZIP file into my webapp's "plugins" folder. I've tried installing the plugin manually to my local repository and making it an explicit dependency in POM.xml, but it's still not being recognized. Maybe you can't pull down grails plugins like you would a standard maven reference? mvn install:install-file -DgroupId=org.grails -DartifactId=grails-hibernate -Dversion=1.1 -Dpackaging=zip -Dfile=%GRAILS_HOME%/plugins/grails-hibernate-1.1.zip I can manually setup the Grails webapp from the command-line, which creates that local ./plugins folder properly. It would recognise what the id is for the merged block and perform a mysql query based on a variable that that block has. So that's what I would like to do and that's what I call a secondary mysql merge block. • Getting a Database into Source Control

  For any number of reasons, from simple auditing, to change tracking, to automated deployment, to integration with application development processes, you’re going to want to place your database into source control. Using Red Gate SQL Source Control this process is extremely simple. SQL Source Control works within your SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) interface.  This means you can work with your databases in any way that you’re used to working with them. If you prefer scripts to using the GUI, not a problem. If you prefer using the GUI to having to learn T-SQL, again, that’s fine. After installing SQL Source Control, this is what you’ll see when you open SSMS:   SQL Source Control is now a direct piece of the SSMS environment. The key point initially is that I currently don’t have a database selected. You can even see that in the SQL Source Control window where it shows, in red, “No database selected – select a database in Object Explorer.” If I expand my Databases list in the Object Explorer, you’ll be able to immediately see which databases have been integrated with source control and which have not. There are visible differences between the databases as you can see here:   To add a database to source control, I first have to select it. For this example, I’m going to add the AdventureWorks2012 database to an instance of the SVN source control software (I’m using uberSVN). When I click on the AdventureWorks2012 database, the SQL Source Control screen changes:   I’m going to need to click on the “Link database to source control” text which will open up a window for connecting this database to the source control system of my choice.  You can pick from the default source control systems on the left, or define one of your own. I also have to provide the connection string for the location within the source control system where I’ll be storing my database code. I set these up in advance. You’ll need two. One for the main set of scripts and one for special scripts called Migrations that deal with different kinds of changes between versions of the code. Migrations help you solve problems like having to create or modify data in columns as part of a structural change. I’ll talk more about them another day. Finally, I have to determine if this is an isolated environment that I’m going to be the only one use, a dedicated database. Or, if I’m sharing the database in a shared environment with other developers, a shared database.  The main difference is, under a dedicated database, I will need to regularly get any changes that other developers have made from source control and integrate it into my database. While, under a shared database, all changes for all developers are made at the same time, which means you could commit other peoples work without proper testing. It all depends on the type of environment you work within. But, when it’s all set, it will look like this: SQL Source Control will compare the results between the empty folders in source control and the database, AdventureWorks2012. You’ll get a report showing exactly the list of differences and you can choose which ones will get checked into source control. Each of the database objects is scripted individually. You’ll be able to modify them later in the same way. Here’s the list of differences for my new database:   You can select/deselect all the objects or each object individually. You also get a report showing the differences between what’s in the database and what’s in source control. If there was already a database in source control, you’d only see changes to database objects rather than every single object. You can see that the database objects can be sorted by name, by type, or other choices. I’m going to add a comment such as “Initial creation of database in source control.” And then click on the Commit button which will put all the objects in my database into the source control system. That’s all it takes to get the objects into source control initially. Now is when things can get fun with breaking changes to code, automated deployments, unit testing and all the rest.

  I’ve been working as a database professional for quite a long time. But originally, I was a developer. And I loved being a developer. There was this constant feedback loop of a job well done, your code compiled and it ran. Every time this happened successfully, you’d check it into source control. These days you have to add another step; the code passed all the tests, unit, line, regression, qa, whatever, then into source control it goes. As a matter of fact, when I first made the jump from developer to DBA/database developer/database professional, source control was the one thing I couldn’t believe was missing from the DBA toolbox. Come to find out, source control was only the beginning of what was missing from your standard DBAs set of skills. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not disrespecting the DBA. They’re focused where they should be, on your production data. But there has to be a method for developing applications that include databases and the database side of that development and deployment process has long been lacking. This lack of development and deployment methodologies is a part of what has given rise to some of the wackier implementations of Object Relational Mapping tools, the NoSQL movement, and some of the other foul cursing that is directed towards databases, DBAs, and database development by application developers. Some of that is well earned. A lot isn’t. But it is a fact that database professionals, in general, do not have as sophisticated a model for managing development and deployment as application developers do. We could charge out and start trying to come up with our own standards and methods. I’m sure people have done exactly that. However, I’m lazy, and not terribly bright. Rather than try to invent a whole new process, I’m going to look to my developer roots and choose instead to emulate the developers. • Install GIMP 2.7.1 on Lucid Lynx using PPA

  GIMP lovers are going to be disappointed to hear that GIMP is going away in the next release of much awaited Ubuntu 10.04. Today we take a look at installing in on Lucid Lynx using PPA. The reason for getting rid of it as cited by the GIMP developers, is that GIMP is too professional a software to be included in regular desktop version of Ubuntu. And it takes up too much of space on the disk. Also, the fact that it’s too complicated for regular users. If you can’t live without it…let’s see how to install GIMP 2.7.1 on Lucid Lynx (Currently in Alpha). The new version of GIMP supports single window mode and we will also see how to enable this feature as well. First we need to add the official GIMP 2.7.1 PPA in the software sources of Ubuntu 10.04, by opening the terminal window and typing the following command: sudo sh -c “echo ‘deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/matthaeus123/mrw-gimp-svn/ubuntu lucid main’ >> /etc/apt/sources.list” Now that we have added the PPA we need to add the GPG key, so type the following in your Terminal window. sudo apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 405A15CB Next up we have to update the software repository… sudo apt-get update All that is left is to install GIMP 2.7.1 by typing in the following… sudo apt-get install gimp Click ‘Y’ (for yes) to install GIMP Once GIMP is installed you can start it by going to Applications > Graphics > GNU Image Manipulation Program. You now have your favorite GIMP on your favorite Ubuntu 10.04. As you can see in the image below, GIMP still comes with default 3 windows, which could clog up your lower panel In Ubuntu 10.04. However, now you can run GIMP in single window mode by going to Windows > Single-Window mode. That’s all! Now you have your GIMP running in single window mode with less of hassle to manage 3 windows. It’s unfortunate that GIMP will not be included, but by following these instructions, you’ll be able to enjoy using it in Ubuntu 10.04.   Remember how previous versions of Windows had an Internet Explorer icon on the desktop, and you could right-click it to quickly access the Internet Options screen? It’s completely gone in Windows 7, but a geeky hack can bring it back. Microsoft removed this feature to comply with all those murky legal battles they’ve had, and their alternate suggestion is to create a standard shortcut to iexplore.exe on the Desktop, but it’s not the same thing. We’ve got a registry hack to bring it back. This guest article was written by Ramesh from the WinHelpOnline blog, where he’s got loads of really geeky registry hacks. Bring Back the Internet Explorer Namespace Icon in Windows 7 the Easy Way If you just want the IE icon back, all you need to do is download the RealInternetExplorerIcon.zip file, extract the contents, and then double-click on the w7_ie_icon_restore.reg file. That’s all you have to do. There’s also an undo registry file there if you want to get rid of it. Download the Real Internet Explorer Icon Registry Hack Manual Registry Hack If you prefer doing things the manual way, or just really want to understand how this hack works, you can follow through the manual steps below to learn how it was done, but we’ll have to warn you that it’s a lot of steps. Launch Regedit.exe using the Start Menu search box, and then navigate to the following location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ CLSID \ {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} Right-click on the key on the left-hand pane, choose Export, and save it to a .REG file (say, ie-guid.reg) Open up the REG file using Notepad… From the Edit menu, click Replace, and replace every occurrence of the following GUID string {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} … with a custom GUID string, such as: {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30301D} Save the REG file and close Notepad, and then double-click on the file to merge the contents to the registry. Either re-open the registry editor, or use the F5 key to reload everything with the new changes (this step is important). Now you can navigate downto the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ CLSID \ {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30301D} \ Shellex \ ContextMenuHandlers \ ieframe Double-click on the (default) key in the right-hand pane and set its data as: {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} With this done, press F5 on the desktop and you’ll see the Internet Explorer icon that looks like this: The icon appears incomplete without the Properties command in right click menu, so keep reading. Final Registry Hack Adjustments Click on the following key, which should still be viewable in your Registry editor window from the last step. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30301D} Double-click LocalizedString in the right-hand pane and type the following data to rename the icon. Internet Explorer Select the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30301D}\shell Add a subkey and name it as Properties, then select the Properties key, double-click the (default) value and type the following: P&roperties Create a String value named Position, and type the following data bottom At this point the window should look something like this: Under Properties, create a subkey and name it as Command, and then set its (default) value as follows: control.exe inetcpl.cpl Navigate down to the following key, and then delete the value named LegacyDisable HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ CLSID \ {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30301D} \ shell \ OpenHomePage Now head to the this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Desktop \ NameSpace Create a subkey named {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30301D} (which is the custom GUID that we used earlier in this article.) Press F5 to refresh the Desktop, and here is how the Internet Explorer icon would look like, finally. That’s it! It only took 24 steps, but you made it through to the end—of course, you could just download the registry hack and get the icon back with a double-click. • Preview Before You Paste with Live Preview in Office 2010

  Do you often find yourself frustrated that content you just copied and pasted didn’t turn out the way you expected? With the new Live Preview in Office 2010, you can preview how copied content will look when it’s pasted even between Office applications. Not every paste preview option will be available in every circumstance. The available options will be based on the applications being used and what content is copied. Copy your content like normal by right-clicking and selecting Copy, pressing Crtl + C, or selecting Copy from the Home tab. Next, select your location to paste the content. Now you can access the Paste Preview buttons either by selecting the Paste dropdown list from the Home tab…   …Or by right-clicking. As you hover your cursor over each of the Paste Options buttons, you will see a preview of what it will look like if you paste using that option. Click the corresponding button when you find the paste option you like. The “Paste” will paste all the content and formatting as you can see below. Values will paste values only, no formatting.   Formatting will paste only the formatting, no values. Hover over Paste Special to reveal any additional paste options. The process is similar in other Office applications. As you can see in the Word document below, Keep Text Only will paste the text, but not the orange color format from the original text.   Even after you’ve pasted, there is still time to change your mind. After you paste content you’ll see a Paste Option button near your content. If you don’t, you can pull it up by pressing the Ctrl key. Note: This is also available after using Ctrl + V to paste. Click to enable the dropdown and select one of the available options.   Using Live Paste Preview between multiple applications is just as easy. If we preview pasting the content from our Word document into PowerPoint by using the Keep Source Formatting option, we’ll see that the outcome looks awful. Selecting the Use Destination Theme will merge the text into the theme of the PowerPoint document and looks a lot better on our slide.   Live Paste Preview is a nice addition to Office 2010 and is sure to save time spent undoing the unexpected consequences of pasting content.
