  Hi, I'm trying to get a list of available reports via the webservice for SQL Reporting Services 2005 express edition. Each time I try to call the ListChildren method I get an insuffient permission exception. The code is: ReportingService2005SoapClient rService = new ReportingService2005SoapClient(); CatalogItem[] cItems = null; rService.ListChildren("/", false, out cItems); I added the ASP.net (iusr) account into the local admin group on the PC and still get the exception.   I once built a very good web application in ASP (classic) back in 2001 and extensively used XmlHttpRequest object in it. (I was lucky that the clients were only using IE, and only IE supported this object at that time). Then later when people started talking about AJAX in 2005, It felt good to have used something ahead (or early) of its time. Well, maybe this does not qualify to be listed as something done ahead of its time. Which programming technology/technique/practice have you done that was ahead of this time.   Hi, The question is about Armenian. I'm using sql server 2005, collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, data mostly is in Armenian and we can't use unicode. I tested on ms sql 2008 with a windows collation for armenian language ( Cyrillic_General_100_ ), I have found here, ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188046.aspx ) but it didn't help. I have a function, that orders hex values and a lower function, which takes each char in each string and converts it to it's lower form, but it's not acceptable solution, it works really slow, calling that functions on every column of a huge table. Is there any solution for this issue not using unicode and not working with hex values manually?

  Hi, I recently started to use AjaxControlToolkit v3.0.30930.0 in my application together with System.Web.Extension 3.5. My development environment is Visual Studio 2005, .NET Framework 2.0 and the development language is C#. The Ajax control I used is the ModalPopupExtender. I also used the UpdatePanel and updateprogress controls. Everything is working fine on my development machine. But I got a problem after I deployed the application to a server which does not have System.Web.Extension 3.5 installed, which is understandable. My question is, can the ajax controls I used work without System.Web.Extension 3.5? Say I revert the ajaxcontroltoolkit back to version 1.0.61025.0? I don't have the option to install .NET 3.5 as yet. Thank you for your help. John

  Hopefully some Custom Control Designers/Builders can help I'm attempting to build my first custom control that is essential a client detail collection form. There are to be a series of elements to this form that require various styles applied to them. Ideally I'd like the VS 2005/2008 properties interface to be able to apply the CSSClass as it does at the control level, i.e. with a dropdown list of available CSS Clases.   Hello all, I have a web application which needs to allow admins to create content pages. I'd rather not re-invent the wheel here. What I need is something like Joomla, but it doesn't have to be a full fledged CMS. I need a framework or a library that I can use with my current web application which will present a nice interface for admin to create sections/pages, and then edit and style them just like joomla. My web application is built on .Net 3.5 and Sql Server 2005. Any ideas?

• Running Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 at the same time

  A group of us are working on a project which we built with .NET 3.5 in Visual Studio 2008. I want to test out Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4 (well, mainly for WPF 4). I am just wondering if I install VS 2010, will I still be able to use VS 2008 to open the first project. I know when I open older projects made in VS 2003/2005, I get an upgrade wizard. I do not want to upgrade the first project to 2010, since that would probably mean every one else has to use it too. I have not done this before, is it possible to run both versions of Visual Studio, where each version opens its own projects (this may not even be an issue, but I just wanted someone to confirm this, so that I don't spend a lot of time trying to undo changes)?

  I'm trying to come up with a way to query the values in two different columns in the same table where the result set will indicate instances where the value of columnB doesn't contain the value of columnA. For example, my "Nodes" table contains columns "NodeName" and "DNS". The values should look similar to the following: NodeName DNS Router1 Router1.mydomain.com I want to run a query to show which rows have a DNS value that does not contain (or begin with) the value of the NodeName field. I think the query should function something similar to the following, but obviously I'm missing something with regard to the use of "Like" in this situation. SELECT NodeName, DNS WHERE DNS NOT LIKE 'NodeName%' I'm using SQL Server 2005, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... :)

  Hi All, Is there a way to update the PDB file with the new source location ? I have a project which links to some libraries which are built on another machine and are debug build with the PDB file. I cannot put a breakpoint in the files which are compiled in the libs. These libs take more than 4 hours to build so I dont want to buid them on my machine. For more information, contact your system administrator." When I RDP into the server and try Microsoft CRM Workflow Manager/Monitor with http or https connectivity, it doesn't work. "The specified Microsoft CRM server is not responding. This might happen if it is currently unavaliable, it is not a Microsoft CRM server, or you are not a valid user. Contact your sys-admin." This is a Microsoft CRM v3.0 / Microsoft SQL server 2005 box, Active directory is on a seperate box.. When I right click Microsoft CRM Worlkflow Service, properties, log on: it shows "crmtestuser" and a password. I did not RDP or try logging in as that crmtestuser, but I am Admin... Could this be a clue? What can I try?

  Hello, Visual Studio 2005 C++ Windows XP Pro I have a sample application that I am testing, that links with boost libraries. However, the program runs ok. However, when I try and stop the program by clicking the 'Stop Debugging' button. The program ends, but the console window remains open. So I have many of them, as during my testing I am starting and stopping the application. Even when I try and close it by clicking the close button it has no affect. And it doesn't seem to appear under task manager when the program ends. The only way I can close them if I reboot windows. I am thinking it might be a thread that has not closed, and maybe that is keeping the console windows open. Many thanks for any advice,

  I need to deploy the language packs for the ReportViewer 2010 control (the english one is installed and working perfectly). Before, with ReportViewer 2008 and 2005, all the supported laguages were available on the MS downloads site. I can't seem to find them for the RC of 2010 -- are they available anywhere? From MSDN: To use the localized version of the ReportViewer control redistributable that comes with Visual Studio, do the following: 1.Run ReportViewer.exe. 2.Navigate to the folder that contains the language pack you want to use. Language pack folders are located at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\BootStrapper\Packages\ReportViewer\. 3.Run ReportViewerLP.exe. Is there a generic language pack for VS 2010 RC that would have the localized report viewers as well?

  Can anyone point me in the direction of how I could get a NUnit test to run a .sql file to Create / Setup a database. I know about the the TestFixtureSetUp and TestFixtureTearDown attributes / methods in NUnit. So I KNOW how to call methods before and after all or each unit tests. I'm just unsure of how to load and execute the contents of a .sql file agains a SQL Server 2005 database programatically. Any examples? This is part of our TDD / CI.   I'm maintaining a .Net 2.0 application using Visual Studio 2008. When the application was built, it was originally in Visual Studio 2003 and made use of the System.ComponentModel.Component class for data access. You can drag and drop commands, connections, etc onto the designer surface of the component. In 2008, the data access classes don't "stick" to the component. I.e., the code for the command does not get generated in the class. when did this change? 2005? is there a replacement for this behavior, perhaps using the db pro edition? Thanks.

  I have a stored procedure on SQL server 2005. It is pulling from a Table function, and has two joins. When the query is run using a load test it kills the CPU 100% across all 16 cores! I have determined that removing one of the joins makes the query run fine, but both taxes the CPU. Select SKey From dbo.tfnGetLatest(@ID) a left join [STAGING].dbo.RefSrvc b on a.LID = b.ESIID left join [STAGING].dbo.RefSrvc c on a.EID = c.ESIID Any help is appreciated, note the join is happening on the same table in a different database on the same server.

• PDB file from different versions of Visual Studio

  I have an old DLL file which was built with VC++ 6. Now I need to investigate the dump file but I don't have its PDB available. The stacktrace reported by WinDbg is also inaccurate. Is it possible to rebuild the project with later versions of Visual Studio i.e. 2003, 2005, 2008, have the PDB generated, and use this to map addresses to symbols in the old DLL? Is there something like VC 6.0 compatible mode for building project? Obtaining VC++ 6 is one option, but it looks like VS6.0 has already vanished from MSDN subscriber download page :( Thanks!

• SSIS web service task parsing result.

  I have an ssis (2005) package that uses the web service task to download to a file destination. The file contains a string of xml data. After downloaded the file looks like this. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> <string>--here is XML data with escaped characters--</string> My thought was I could then use the XML source data flow source to pull the <string> data, but when I set this up the XML source will not read the <string> as a column. It will generate an xsd and it seems normal, but no luck seeing the column. Any ideas on getting this to work? Or would there be a better way to pull the data within the file generated from the web service? Thanks.

  Hi. We have some Delphi code that uses the BDE to Access SQL Server 2008 through the SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver (2005 version). Our issue is that we're experiencing some deadlock issues in a loop doing inserts to multiple tables. The whole loop is done within a [TDatabase].StartTransaction. Looking at the SQL Server Profiler we clearly see that at one point during the loop the SPID (Session ID?) change, and then we naturally end up with a deadlock. (Both SPID doing inserts to the same table) It seems like the BDE at some point does a second connection to the DB... (Although I would love to skip the BDE, it's currently not possible. ) Anyone with experiences to share?

Currently the application is divided into multiple larger processing parts, each logging the duration of their work. This is not detailed and does not help us with anything.   C#, visual studio 2005 I have several 3rd party activeX control. I need to use them in my .net windows application. These controls are graphical. I created a wrapper with aximp.exe for them. But it seems that something wrong. When I call some methods of wrapped activeX control == targetinvocativeexception occured. Or visual studio writes "you are attempting to write or read protected memory". I know that something wrong. But what is exactly wrong - i don't know. I find out about method CreateControl() or STAthread attribute. but it doesn't help me. What is the common problem and common solution for my type of problem ? These activex control from big and trusted company, other developers work with them.

• Why aren't unsigned OpenMP index variables allowed?

  I have a loop in my C++/OpenMP code that looks like this: #pragma omp parallel for for(unsigned int i=0; i<count; i++) { // do stuff } When I compile it (with Visual Studio 2005) I get the following error: error C3016: 'i' : index variable in OpenMP 'for' statement must have signed integral type I understand that the error occurs because i is unsigned instead of signed, and changing i to be signed removed this error. What I want to know is why is this an error? Why aren't unsigned index variables allowed? Looking at the MSDN page for this error gives me no clues.
