• Authentication issues setting up iRedMail on Debian

  I'm setting up an exchange server using iRedMail. Following the official iRedMail installation guide (http://www.iredmail.org/install_iredmail_on_debian.html) and the Digital Ocean guide (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-install-iredmail-on-ubuntu-12-04-x64) I was able to install iRedMail without any problems, so I have all the services up and running. I can configure domains and emails using iRedAdmin BUT I have problem both sending and receiving email, what I get from Roundcube is 'Authentication error' when trying to send an email. Also I can't receive anything. I also tried to connect to the mx server using telnet, it connects, but after the STARTTLS command, when I start to write "MAIL FROM:" the connection is lost. Something in the configuration is not working (at the moment I have the configuration written by the iRedMail installation) but I do not know where, I hope someone can enlight me! Thank you

• Search Files (Preferably with index) on Windows 2000 Server

  I have many files on a windows server 2000 machine that is setup to act as a networked disk drive, is there anyway I can index the files and make that index available as a search to more people than just me? Bonus if the index can look inside of documents such as readme.txt? If there is no easy way to do this globaly (for all users) Is there a way I could generate and store an index locally on my computer? If this is the wrong place to ask this question, any advice on community more suited?

• Migrating WebLogic 10.3.0 to new host. Slow managed server startup times

  We are migrating our Blue Martini Commerce application (only supported on WebLogic 10.3.0) to a new host (Redhat 6.3 on a VMWare ESX vm). We are seeing extremely slow start up times for our managed server(s) that is basically 20x slower than our current production. As a for instance the Publish managed server takes ~30 - 45 seconds in current production and in the new environment it takes ~10 minutes. The setup uses the same domain structure and JVM as the current production environment. The same setup files are used. We use jdk1.6.0_33 on 64 bit architecture. We used the generic 64bit weblogic installer and used pack / unpack utilities to migrate the domain. The JAVA_OPTS to start this server are: "-d64 -Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=48m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m" The sysadmins have checked /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/limits.conf to ensure we were not hitting some kind of process limit. As I am not sure what this managed server does from a Blue Martini perspective during the phase of startup I also had the DBA check to ensure that Oracle RAC (11.2.0.3) wasn't also hitting some kind of process limit or if there was a tns listener issue. The new host is quite a bit stricter with their server lock downs so there are a few differences.... Redhat 6.3 in new env, RH 5.7 in current SElinux is targeted in new env and disabled in current VM in new env and dedicated hardware in current iptables disabled in current. It was enabled in new prod but I had them disable it just in case I apologize for not being more specific. I am mostly hoping got some tips. I do not have the typical root access I would normally have in this environment. I am just hoping got a path forward. I did a few 'kill -3' to see if there are blocked threads and I got nadda. The service works for all intents and purposes it is just painfully slow. Thanks you all in advance for reading and best regards. Wade

• Intel hybrid graphics stuck in power save mode

  I have an Asus UL30V with Intel hybrid graphics. When I bought it it used to switch to turn of the better graphics card to save power and run on a more power effecient one. When I connected the laptop to a power source again I could go to the intel graphics icon on the task bar and click on "switch to enhanced performance mode" or something similar. But like 2-3 months ago it suddenly vanished. I cannot switch modes anymore, it's gotten stuck in power save mode. I can change the windows power setting but that doesn't enable the better graphics card :( What should I do? I've tried restarting the computer and that does not work. I really hope I don't have to reinstall the drivers! It seems like other people have had the same issue: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19422695/19994601.aspx , he hasn't even got the same computer as me. I have windows 7 Home Premium x64 Any ideas?

• What is the best way to back up dedicated web server? (Amanda versus Rsync)

  Hello everyone, I am trying to establish valid back ups for my web server. It is a linux box on CentOS. I have asked around and "rsync" was suggested by some of the server fault community. However, my coworker at work says that this is really only moving over the physical files and isn't really a usable "snapshot." He suggested using "amanda" and that this did full server snapshots that are more what I am accustomed to. I know at my company we have virtual machines that we take snapshots of and we can restore everything back to just as they were with little effort and little downtime. Is this possible with rsync? Or would I need to create a new server and then migrate the files back and do various configurations? I think I prefer being able to just reset everything to a point in time. Forgive my ignorance, Back ups are something that I have never really had to worry about before.

• Is it possible to avoid umask 0002?

  Is it possible to give an automatic ability to modify files(folders and all recursively) created by one user to another within one specified folder (let's say "shared") on the basis of both users belonging to the same secondary group (let's say "coworkers")? I've tried to achieve this by using ACL but with no success. Seems that umask wipes out corresponding bits.... I'm on FreeBSD 8.1 (but seems this problem is actual for other *NIX systems). Googling this problem (people often refer to it as "umask per directory" problem) gives the most relevant link: http://old.nabble.com/ACLs,-umask-and-shared-directories-td27820947.html that is not very promising... • seamless mode remote desktop connection from linux to windows

  I am a programmer using Linux as my main OS, however sometimes I need to use windows (ie, office, ea). I'm running qemu with kvm to access the windows "machine". I would like to achieve something that is described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SeamlessVirtualization (It means I would be able to run chosen applications on Windows and then display them locally on Linux as separate windows achieving good desktop integration). However seamless rdp is buggy and doesn't work on my machine (probably because I'm using a tiling window manager and a 64bit system). Are you aware of any other solution then rdp seamless mode? I would prefer to still use quemu because it uses cpu hardware virtualization, so different protocol/client combination would be preferable.

• X server not starting up after new kernel compilation

  I have compiled the Kernel on my 64-bit Debian XPS Studio 1340 Dell system. srikanth@debian:~ - 05:40:52 PM - $ uname -a Linux debian 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Thu Mar 22 17:26:33 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux Kernel version that I have used and compiled from kernel.org is 2.6.35.13 I have nvidia installed on old kernel. I got the old config and I used the same config to compile the new kernel. Everything went well and I got two debian packages ( image and headers ) which I have installed on my system. When I select the new kernel on the boot menu and I go into it, the X server is not starting up possibly because I have to "rebuild" ( not sure how to do that ) according to this link: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/x-server-not-starting-after-kernel-compilation-605265/ Can you suggest how to do the rebuild on nvidia module so that I can start x ( without seeing any blank screen or error saying nvidia module is missing ) ?   What I am looking to make is a linux system that acts as a bridge. It simple forwards any data sent on one device over to the next device. It does not attempt to block incoming attacks or redirect any traffic. What it does to is perform an IDS role on the network. Any suspicious activity is logged and reported. Snort would be one such piece of software however I was wondering what other solutions and ideas the rest of the community has.

• Best Practice: Migrating Email Boxes (maildir format)

  So here's the situation. I've got about 20,000 maildir email accounts chewing up a several hundred GB of space on our email server. Maildir by nature keeps thousands of tiny a** little files, instead of one .mbox file or the like... So i need to migrate all of these several millions of files from one server to the other, for both space and life-cycle reasons. the conventional methods i would use all work just fine. rsync is the option that comes immediately to mind, however i wanted to see if there are any other "better" options out there. Rsync not handling multi-threaded transfers in this situation sucks because it never actually gets up to speed and saturates my network connection, because of this the transfer from one server to another will take hours beyond hours, when it shouldn't really take more then one or two. I know this is highly opinionated and subjective and will therefore be marked community wiki.

  You wrote in a reply this Blockquote The problem is that sftp runs as the user's id -- first, the sftp client ssh's into the target host as the given user, then runs sftp-server. Since sftp-server is running as a regular user, it has no way to "give away" a file (change owner of a file). However, if you are able to use scp, and assign a key pair to each user, you can get around this. This involves adding a user's key to root's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file, with a "command=" parameter to force it to run a script that sanitizes and alters the arguments of the server-side scp program. I've used this technique before to set up an anonymous scp dropbox that allowed anyone to submit a file, and ensure that no one could retrieve submitted files and also prevent overwrites. • Losing SQL connections

  sql servr 2005 - Standard; one dedicated sql server (VM); windows server 2003; Small databases; About once a week we lose all sql connections. It seems to fix itself after about 5-10 minutes. System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. We don't have a fully qualified DBA; it's kind of a joint effort here. Can somebody give me some general ideas for troubleshooting the network side and the application side? We already ran a few tuning profiles and ran through Database Tuning Advisor to apply indexing recommendations. It would sure be nice if there was a way to take a snapshot of what was running on sql server when these 100% cpu spikes occured, but sometimes we're not around. Is it common to throttle CPU for certain processes? Can this be done with Windows server 2003? For example, if security apps were making cpu spike to 100%, is there a way to limit their cpu usage? • Do I need to conver the older Access Database, and, if so, how?

  I have an Access 2003 database. When I click on a pivot table, I get this message MS Access There isn't enough memory to complete the Automation object operation on the worksheet object. There is a lot of discussion concerning this message. Here is one link. http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/113228-access-2003-file-pivot-table-issue-when-opening-in-access-2010 But this particular link's explanation doesn't really go into fixing the problem in general, like fixing the pivot tables and getting things all nicely back together in the original Access database. That's why I am also interested in converting the database to 2010 format if that is possible. Are there instructions -- I cannot currently find them and would very much appreciate a link -- on dealing with this problem in a nice stepwise fashion?

  Recently I've had to uninstall a single Self-Signed SSL Certificate from one of my Apache boxes, specifically for an outside party. That's not really a problem for me, since it was easy. What confuses me is how they knew I had a self-signed certificate. The domain I provided them was not related to the domain with the self-signed certificate. Does this mean Apache publicizes the Virtual hosts in the httpd.conf file?   I have read several posts regarding restricting ALL users to Key authentication ONLY, however I want to force only a single user (svn) onto Key auth only, the rest can be key or password. I read How to disable password authentication for every users except several, however it seems the "match user" part of sshd_config is part of openssh-5.1. I am running CentOS 5.6 and only have OpenSSH 4.3. I have the following repos available at the moment. $ yum repolist Loaded plugins: fastestmirror repo id repo name status base CentOS-5 - Base enabled: 3,535 epel Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 enabled: 6,510 extras CentOS-5 - Extras enabled: 299 ius IUS Community Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 enabled: 218 rpmforge RHEL 5 - RPMforge.net - dag enabled: 10,636 updates CentOS-5 - Updates enabled: 720 repolist: 21,918 I mainly use epel, rpmforge is used to the latest version (1.6) of subversion. Is there any way to achieve this with my current setup? I don't want to restrict the server to keys only because if I lose my key I lose my server ;-)

• Odd SVN Checkout failures occur frequenctly on VMWare virtual machines

  We've recently been experiencing seemingly random SVN checkout failures on our Hudson build system. Google search has failed me; I'm hoping the super user community can help me out :-) We are occasionally receiving the following SVN error when our Hudson build jobs checkout source via the Hudson Subversion plug-in (which uses svn kit): ERROR: Failed to check out http://server/svnroot/trunk org.tmatesoft.svn.core.SVNException: svn: Processing REPORT request response failed: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity. (/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default) svn: REPORT request failed on '/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default' This issue seems to only occur when checking out from our Virtual Machines (Windows XP, Fedora 9, Fedora 12) using Hudson's SVN Plug-in. Systems that use the traditional SVN client seem to work. SVN Server version: 1.6.6 Hudson version: 1.377 Hudson SVN Plugin Version: 1.17 Has anyone dealt with this issue, or have any suggestions? • Change Block Tracking settings not retained for a VM on VMWare 5.5

  I'm trying to enable Change Block Tracking as per this VMWare KB article but the setting ctkEnabled is not being retained in the advanced options or being added to the vmx file. The setting scsi0:0.ctkEnabled is being retained and I see a file vmname-ctk.vmdk in the datastore. I've verified that the vm doesn't have any snapshots but don't see any other suggestions in the KB (or google, of course.) Edit: The last comment on this community post. It's a slightly different circumstance, but suggests that there is an known bug editing these settings in the web-gui.

So I turn to the community, Something on Linux is fine, what I want more is alert ability like emails telling me something is not right. • Redirecting Subdomain with Volusion and GoDaddy

  I need to create a subdomain (reviews.basequipment.com) and have it re-direct to our Reviews page at http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies. The genius's at Volusion have never gotten this to work correctly and I have been asking them for years now (yes years). Our nameservers are on Volusion and we are hosted through GoDaddy. Volusion tells me to use their "CPanel" to update DNS Records to this: reviews | CNAME | www.resellerratings.com This doesn't even work when going to reviews.basequipment.com and of course does not do the full job as I want to go to http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies So I have then tried doing a Forward Subdomain in GoDaddy. Added subdomain "reviews" and forward to the link I mentioned above, with no avail (im assuming because my nameservers reside on Volusion). Has anyone had experience doing this, or does anyone know of any suggestions? Volusion is pretty limited with this and as I've said, I have been trying this for years and I've finally decided to consult the community here at stackflow. Thanks in advance.

• What to do with old hard drives?

  I have over 100+ old hard drives, ranging from 100MB Quantums to 200GB WDs, most of them PATA, some SATA. Most still working. The squirrel mentality runs in my family - hoard everything, discard nothing. Thus, and this is a relevant question - any suggestions on how to put these drives to use (anything) instead of them just being deadweights and space takers around the office? Hopeful objectives and suggestions to keep in mind when you post an answer : Should showcase your geekiness, or plain fun, or serve a social purpose, or benefit the community. You do not need to limit your answer to only one hard drive - if your project needs all 100++, bring it on! Your answer need not be limited to one project per hard drive - if one hard drive can be used for multiple projects, bring it on! If additional accessories need be purchased, make sure they are common. Don't tell me to get a moon rock or something. The projects you suggested should serve a utility, and not just for decoration purposes.

  Of the major Unix shells (bash, ksh, tcsh, zsh, others?), are there any compelling reasons to use one over another? Which is the most interactive/command-line friendly? Which is the most conducive/intuitive for writing scripts? Are there any major built-in features that one shell offers that others don't? Are any of these shells really good for one type of function, but not another? Or are they all pretty well-rounded/flexible? Is it just a matter of personal preference? • snmptrap and snmptt - authcommunity not found

  I am trying to configure snmptt to translate the snmp traps received and handle them as passive checks in icinga monitoring server as described here . after doing the changes to the snmptrapd.conf . I am trying to restart the service and I see authcommunity : command not found, traphandle : command not found . my understanding is the authcommunity and traphandle are just configuration directives which will tell snmptrapd about the community string to use and the traphandle script to be called. It would be helpful if someone can help me understand better. Thanks, sabs

• Problem downloading Android SDK?

  So I'm trying to download the Android SDK for Windows from their website but it isn't working. The download seems to proceed without a hitch but something is wrong because the downloaded .zip is only 2-3 MB (size varies), MD5 doesn't match and the file won't open or extract. Obviously the download is corrupt but I have no idea why. A quick google didn't turn up anyone else with this problem to indicate that it might be on the server side. My connection is rock solid and I've never had issues with it so I'm not sure what it could be on my end. I tried downloading the linux version as well and tried using the alternate link, both to no avail. Having recently discovered this amazing community I thought I'd ask here. Any ideas?
