  PROBLEM How do I access column data in a previous select statement from a sub-query? Below is a simple mock up of what I'm attempting to do. Tables used: Quotes, Users QUOTES TABLE qid, (quote id) owner_uid, creator_uid SQL SYNTAX: SELECT q.qid, q.owner_uid, q.creator_uid, owner.fname, owner.lname FROM quotes q, (SELECT u.fname, u.lname FROM users u WHERE u.uid = q.owner_uid) AS owner WHERE q.qid = '#' SUMMARY I want to be able to use the quote table's owner_uid and specify it for the owner table so I can return all the owner info for that particular quote. The problem is, q.owner_uid is not recognized in the owner sub-query. What am I doing wrong?

• Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

  I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered.   Hello All, I am using Displaytag framework for pagination & exporting purpose. In that i am also using Strut2Tiles Integration. Whenever i am calling any action class it will returning me a list & through Displaytag i am successfully displaying record on my page.   I am going to use a contrived example: one headquarter has one-or-many contacts. A contact can only belong to one headquarter. TableName = Headquarter Column 0 = Id : Guid [PK] Column 1 = Name : nvarchar(100) Column 2 = IsAnotherAttribute: bool TableName = ContactInformation Column 0 = Id : Guid [PK] Column 1 = HeadquarterId: Guid [FK] Column 2 = AddressLine1 COlumn 3 = AddressLine2 Column 4 = AddressLine3 I would like some help setting the table primary keys and foreign keys here? How does the above look? Should I use a composite key for ContactInformation on [Column 0 and Column1]? Is it ok to use surrogate key all of the time?

• Why is insertion into my tree faster on sorted input than random input?

  Now I've always heard binary search trees are faster to build from randomly selected data than ordered data, simply because ordered data requires explicit rebalancing to keep the tree height at a minimum. Recently I implemented an immutable treap, a special kind of binary search tree which uses randomization to keep itself relatively balanced. In contrast to what I expected, I found I can consistently build a treap about 2x faster and generally better balanced from ordered data than unordered data -- and I have no idea why. Still need another clue? What’s the first 4 letters of mobile – mo-bi? Or pronounced differently, More BI. That’s right – add more business intelligence to your overall mobile strategy. In today’s customer centric world where customer interactions and personalization are critical, it’s important to leverage a BI strategy that complements and feeds into your mobile strategy. For example, I was recently talking to a customer that was implementing a data warehouse project focused customer analytics. Their goal was to understand who are their best customers and why, develop customer profiles, identify customer trends & patterns, identify cross sell opportunities, and much more. The company then wanted to feed this information to marketing for targeted campaigns and programs. As we continued to talk, I asked my contact if they had plans to feed this information into their customer facing mobile apps to personalize the apps, target their interactions, and hopefully drive customer loyalty and new revenue streams? Two minutes later, my contact was calling his mobile development teams. So my advice to everyone, as you establish your enterprise mobile strategy and goals, remember that “mo-BI” is a critical component to add value to your mobile apps! • Add a row to UITableView for adding new item?

  In order to provide UI for user to add new items to my table view, I would like to add a new row in my table at a specified location (last row for example) when the view is in edit mode (I have a edit button on the view's navigation bar right side). This new row will have a add button indicator on the left side and disclosure accessory arrow on the right. When the view is not in edit mode, this add row should not be displayed. I am not sure if I should overwrite: - (void)setEditing:(BOOL)editing animated:(BOOL)animated{...} where I call the UITableView's method: insertRowsAtIndexPaths:(NSArray *)indexPaths withRowAnimation: (UITableViewRowAnimation)animation to insert a new row? My understanding is that this call may add a new row into the table view. The table view's data source is from CoreData storage. Not sure this may cause inconsistent numbers of data in the data store and table view? If it is OK and I have to manage rows in the table view, how can I add left add indicator and left disclosure arrow to the new row? Another question is that if I can do it to insert a new row as Add row, should I remove it when the table view not in edit mode? Just want to know if I am on the right track.

  Hi, I have a team site. I understand that the default home page of a team site is a wiki page. I want to add a web part zone to this page. How can I do that? By default it already has Web Part Zone -. You can use SharePoint designer to add a web part to this zone and it works fine. But you are not able to add a web part to this zone using SharePoint web UI? Ususally when you have a web part zone in a page, using SharePoint web UI, it allows to you add/remove a web part. But it is not the case with the web part zone on the default home page of a team site. Also is there any way I can add a web part zone to this page? I do know that you can easily add web parts into wiki page content. But I want to add a new web part zone where users can add/remove web parts. Thanks, Hitesh

• Inflector for .NET

  I was writing conventions for FluentNHibernate the other day and I ran into the need to pluralize a given string and immediately thought of the ruby on rails Inflector.  It turns out there is a .NET library out there also capable of doing word inflection, originally written (I believe) by Andrew Peters, though the link I had no longer works.  The entire Inflector class is only a little over 200 lines long and can be easily included into any project, and contains the Pluralize() method along with a few other helpful methods (like Singularize(), Camelize(), Capitalize(), etc). The Inflector class is available in its entirety from my github repository https://github.com/srkirkland/Inflector.  In addition to the Inflector.cs class I added tests for every single method available so you can gain an understanding of what each method does.  Also, if you are wondering about a specific test case feel free to fork my project and add your own test cases to ensure Inflector does what you expect.   Last week, I have discussed how to control Screen Layouts in LightSwitch. Now, I will talk about how to add an image to the LightSwitch screen. In this demo, I will try to upload the image to the screen and will save the image into the database. The first step we need to do is start the VS 2010, create LightSwitch Desktop application with the name “AddingImageIntoScreenInLSBeta2” as shown in the following figure. The second steps, create a table as shown in the screen by selecting the "create a table" option in the start up screen. Then, we need to add a New Data Screen to our demo application. See the following figure which is the default screen layouts for the screen we have created. So we have to change the layout of this screen so that the uploading and using the image in the screen can be easily explained. Before adding the Model Window we have to prepare the layout. So delete the Highlighted fields as shown in the above figure. After preparing the layout to add the image, just add a new Group to the Person Property Rows Layout. To add a new group, [No: 1] – Select the Rows layout, it will shows you the Add button. [No: 2] – Click the Add button to select the new group. [No: 3] – Select the New Group. After adding the new group change the Layout type to Columns Layout. Here, -          Change the rows layout to columns layouts and give the display name as Uploading Image Example. -          Click on the add button to add the Photo field under the column layout. Add a new group under the Column layout group. Follow the [No: #] to create a new group under the columns layout group. After adding a new group of rows layout add the fields to the newly created group. [No: 1] – Select the Rows Layout group and change the display name as Details. [No: 2] – Click on Add button to select the appropriate fields to add to the group. [No: 3] – Add the fields to the group The above snippet shows the complete layout tree for our screen. Now the screen for uploading the image is ready. Just press the Play button. And see the result.

• Does HTML5 have a feature that enables a user to add an icon to the Apps screen when "installing", and if not, when are they planning to add it?

  I know that the mobile bookmark bubble might sort of work for iOS, but it isn't going in the same section. And for Android, bookmarking is really not going to cut it for a mobile HTML5 application install since users just don't think to go to their bookmarks and that bookmark process takes two or three steps. To me this issue of getting the application (bookmark) installed pretty much makes the rest of the HTML 5 features aimed at mobile HTML much less useful. I can't realistically expect users to prefer the bookmark install and launch process over regular apps, so I can realistically expect them to ignore my mobile HTML5 application and use a native app. The groups behind mobile HTML 5 features do seem to be pushing for HTML 5 apps adoption with things like Application Cache etc. To me it seems obvious that the bookmark bubble is not going to cut it. Someone please tell me they have addressed this or at least are working on it?

  I have two columns, the second column depends on the content on the first column. By default, the second columns is readonly. When I enter some valid value, I want the second column to become editable. To achive this, I created a cell template and cell edit template on the second column where back ground and read only bound to the first column. On load, the first column is null so my second columns comes correctly as read only. • Building Publishing Pages in Code

  Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/djacobus/archive/2013/10/27/154478.aspxOne of the Mantras we developers try to follow: Ensure that the solution package we deliver to the client is complete.  We build Web Parts, Master Pages, Images, CSS files and other artifacts that we push to the client with a WSP (Solution Package) And then we have them finish the solution by building their site pages by adding the web parts to the site pages.       I am a proponent that we,  the developers,  should minimize this time consuming work and build these site pages in code.  I found a few blogs and some MSDN documentation but not really a complete solution that has all these artifacts working in one solution.   What I am will discuss and provide a solution for is a package that has: 1.  Master Page 2.  Page Layout 3.  Page Web Parts 4.  Site Pages   Most all done in code without the development team or the developers having to finish up the site building process spending a few hours or days completing the site!  I am not implying that in Development we do this. In fact,  we build these pages incrementally testing our web parts, etc. I am saying that the final action in our solution is that we take all these artifacts and add them to the site pages in code, the client then only needs to activate a few features and VIOLA their site appears!.  I had a project that had me build 8 pages like this as part of the solution.   In this blog post, I am taking a master page solution that I have called DJGreenMaster.  On My Office 365 Development Site it looks like this:     It is a generic master page for a SharePoint 2010 site Along with a three column layout.  Centered with a footer that uses a SharePoint List and Web Part for the footer links.  I use this master page a lot in my site development!  Easy to change the color and site logo with a little CSS.   I am going to add a few web parts for discussion purposes and then add these web parts to a site page in code.    Lets look at the solution package for DJ Green Master as that will be the basis project for building the site pages:   What you are seeing  is a complete solution to add a Master Page to a site collection which contains: 1.  Master Page Module which contains the Master Page and Page Layout 2.  The Footer Module to add the Footer Web Part 3.  Miscellaneous modules to add images, JQuery, CSS and subsite page 4.  3 features and two feature event receivers: a.  DJGreenCSS, used to add the master page CSS file to Style Sheet Library and an Event Receiver to check it in. b.  DJGreenMaster used to add the Master Page and Page Layout.  In an Event Receiver change the master page to DJGreenMaster , create the footer list and check the files in. c.  DJGreenMasterWebParts add the Footer Web Part to the site collection. I won’t go over the code for this as I will give it to you at the end of this blog post. I have discussed creating a list in code in a previous post.  So what we have is the basis to begin what is germane to this discussion.  I have the first two requirements completed.  I need now to add page web parts and the build the pages in code.  For the page web parts, I will use one downloaded from Codeplex which does not use a SharePoint custom list for simplicity:   Weather Web Part and another downloaded from MSDN which is a SharePoint Custom Calendar Web Part, I had to add some functionality to make the events color coded to exceed the built-in 10 overlays using JQuery!    Here is the solution with the added projects:     Here is a screen shot of the Weather Web Part Deployed:   Here is a screen shot of the Site Calendar with JQuery:     Okay, Now we get to the final item:  To create Publishing pages.   We need to add a feature receiver to the DJGreenMaster project I will name it DJSitePages and also add a Event Receiver:       We will build the page at the site collection level and all of the code necessary will be contained in the event receiver.   Added a reference to the Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.dll contained in the ISAPI folder of the 14 Hive.   First we will add some static methods from which we will call  in our Event Receiver:   1: private static void checkOut(string pagename, PublishingPage p) 2: { 3: if (p.Name.Equals(pagename, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) 4: { 5: 6: if (p.ListItem.File.CheckOutType == SPFile.SPCheckOutType.None) 7: { 8: p.CheckOut(); We the called the Publishing Page update method. 5.  Lastly, the Create Publishing Page method checks in the page just created.   Here is a screen shot of the page right after a deploy!       Okay!  I know we could make a home page look much better!  However, I built this whole Integrated solution in less than a day with the caveat that the Green Master was already built!  So what am I saying?  Build you web parts, master pages, etc.  At the very end of the engagement build the pages.  The client will be very happy!  Here is the code for this solution Code

• How do I get a JPanel with an empty JLabel to take up space in a GridBagLayout

  I am working on a GUI for a project at school. I am using a GridBagLayout in swing. I want to have a label indicating the input(a type of file @ x = 0, y = 0), followed by another label(the actual file name once selected @ x = 1, y = 0), followed by a browse button for a file chooser( @ x = 2, y = 0). The label at (1,0) is initially blank, however I want the area that the text will occupy to take up some space when the label contains no text. I also want the space between the label at (0,0) and the button at (2,0) to remain constant. To achieve this, I'm trying to put the label onto a panel and then play with the layouts. However I can't seam to achieve the desired results. Could anyone offer some suggestions? The next three rows of the GridBagLayout will be laid out exactly the same way. • Visual Studio 2008 Add-in: App.config and web services.

  I have created a visual studio add-in for VS2008. The add-in uses as web service to access data required by the developer. However, currently the only way to get the service to work is to add the service bindings to the machine.config of the pc. I know this is a bad idea and its causing errors left and right in my other applications. I have tried using app.config along side my add-in but the add-in doesn't seem to use it at all. My service call is being made from a dll referenced by the add-in would that make a difference?

• How to add new object to an IList mapped as a one-to-many with NHibernate?

  My model contains a class Section which has an ordered list of Statics that are part of this section. Leaving all the other properties out, the implementation of the model looks like this: public class Section { public virtual int Id { get; private set; } public virtual IList<Static> Statics { get; private set; } } public class Static { public virtual int Id { get; private set; } } In the database, the relationship is implemented as a one-to-many, where the table Static has a foreign key pointing to Section and an integer column Position to store its index position in the list it is part of. The mapping is done in Fluent NHibernate like this: public SectionMap() { Id(x => x.Id); HasMany(x => x.Statics).Cascade.All().LazyLoad() .AsList(x => x.WithColumn("Position")); } public StaticMap() { Id(x => x.Id); References(x => x.Section); } Now I am able to load existing Statics, and I am also able to update the details of those. However, I cannot seem to find a way to add new Statics to a Section, and have this change persisted to the database. I have tried several combinations of: mySection.Statics.Add(myStatic) session.Update(mySection) session.Save(myStatic) but the closest I have gotten (using the first two statements), is to an SQL exception reading: "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Position'". Clearly an INSERT is attempted here, but NHibernate does not seem to automatically append the index position to the SQL statement. What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something in my mappings? Do I need to expose the Position column as a property and assign a value to it myself? EDIT: Apparently everything works as expected, if I remove the NOT NULL constraint on the Static.Position column in the database. I guess NHibernate makes the insert and immediatly after updates the row with a Position value. While this is an anwers to the question, I am not sure if it is the best one. I would prefer the Position column to be not nullable, so I still hope there is some way to make NHibernate provide a value for that column directly in the INSERT statement. Thus, the question is still open. Any other solutions?
