More and more people are investing in SEO. Big companies are investing more and more into SEO. But, average everyday people are also putting their investment dollars into SEO.
Let's face it SEO isn't rocket science, once you know what you're doing it's pretty straight forward, but if it's not done properly then your competitors are getting all your customers. So investing in the services of an SEO Company can be a great return on your time and money. But not all SEO Companies are created equal so here's a quick checklist of things to look out for when hiring an SEO company.
I just received a new desktop with a built-in WiFi card (Windows 7 Home Premium x64). However, I am only able to receive any WiFi signal when the computer is within 1-2 meters of a router. Even then, the signal is very weak (Windows 7 says it is "poor").
I have tried this with 2 different routers and see similar results.
I have somewhere around a dozen other devices that can connect to both routers with greater signal strength (usually full strength) from much, much further away.
When I tried calling support I was instructed to reinstall my drivers and attempt to change the WiFi channel of the router. Neither worked. I was then told that the problem was with my routers and that the computer was functioning normally and that it was certainly not a hardware problem.
What would be the cause of this and is there anything I can do to fix it?

I am running Win7 in a Parallels Desktop 6 on Mac.
On the mac, I use /etc/hosts :
127.0.0.1 mysite
and it works fine : I can type mysite in the url and the website will display.
What I want to do is be able to reproduce the same on Win7 with IE8 for example.
Another guy did it successfully here but I can't :
Parallels: How to see a Mac-hosted website from Windows?
On Mac :
ifconfig -a
vnic0 10.211.55.2
on Win7
I tried this
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
10.211.55.2 mysite
What am I missing ?
Easily determining what objects are located in all your SSIS packages can be a challenging endeavor. James Greaves brings us a technique that can help you determine which packages might need to be changed based on objects you alter in your database.
One of the trends that has been popular over the last few years is ranking your site for long tail keywords in your niche market so you can get more visitors without having to compete with the big competitors. In this article I want to show you why this strategy still works and why you should still use it today.
Many internet marketers always find themselves on the loosing even after investing thousands of dollars in coming up with a flashy and appealing website. The main reason for this is because they tend to forget some of the fundamentals that make a website rank high.
A good optimization company can be found on the Internet. These SEO companies are proud of their qualifications, awards, honors, and reliability. These are solid signs of their dedication to their expertise and focus on getting "the bottom line". They also showcase why they are above the rest of other SEO firms.
When you think of starting a new online business make the authors area a frequent place to visit. Writing your own original content will brand your business. Submit your one of a kind article to only one directory and then write a new one to submit to another directory. Branding your business products and or services will create a structure of trust, when others see that you understand what you are doing.
I have a mysterious volume mounted on my desktop that I can't seem to forcibly unmount. I've tried using umount and also diskutil, but it seems to automatically remount itself. I've copied my hdd with Time Machine, and copied it onto a new computer, and it also has the drive mounted on it. It's not pointing to anything and I can't open it, nor can I forcibily remove it by hand with rm -Rf.
Any ideas? I noticed this problem after I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion. It causes problems because when I try to select a file using the built in Finder dialog box, it freezes for a few minutes because it tries to cache or read into the "media" mounted volume.
I installed Ubuntu in a VM using VirtualBox, and after a few hours of Googling all the things I had to install and configure for the rest of the environment, I am finally up and running with a Ruby on Rails IDE and have MySql up and running.
After I start up the Ubuntu VM, I have to go to a terminal window and do this to start MySql:
/etc/init.d/mysql start
So that works fine, but, since I am such a GUI person, I’m wondering how I can create an icon on the Ubuntu Desktop that I can click on to launch this command.
Can you tell me how to do that?
I have a music collection and use sphinx for searching in it. Search mode is SPH_MATCH_PHRASE, but when I search f.e. for "B'Day" album - sphinx cuts "'" and searching by "Day" query. How can I force sphinx to search by exact phrase without filtering any symbols?
I have a problem with my search in Windows 8. When I search through the Modern UI style (WinF) for files, it won't return a single result from none of my drives.
Searching via Windows Explorer works fine.
I had the same problem in Windows 8 Consumer Preview, but it worked in Developer Preview. And I looked on the net for other users with similar problems, but I haven't found anything.
Is there someone who knows what the problem might be?
In tracking down poorly performing queries for clients I often encounter the query text in a trace file I've captured, but don't know the source of the query. I've found that many of the poorest performing queries are those written into the reports the business users need to make their decisions. If I can't figure out where they came from, usually years after the queries were written, I can't fix them. First thing I did was find a great utility called RSScripter , which opens up a Windows dialog...(read more)
So I was messing around with tasksel to install LAMP. Foolishly I unchecked the ubuntu-desktop item. About 25% through the process I realized it is removing my desktop components. So I closed the terminal window, but now maybe something went wrong.
Many default applications are gone and I can't even boot into the desktop. I have a separate home folder so I don't really have to worry about data, but I did install a lot of other software which would be gone if I take reformat and reinstall. So is there a way to recover the desktop from a live CD?
SEO is critical to having your small/local business being found online. There are services out there that charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month for this service and frankly many of them are worth that and more for the qualified leads they help send your way. However for the small business person there often is no budget for this so they have to have a more DIY (do it yourself) approach at the start. This article is the first in a series that outlines some basics before you start spending money.
Carpet and furniture cleaning companies have so much to do and then they are burdened by having to determine what functions best to promote their web site. Normally the web administrator is not excited to do a single thing for them.
In Mac OS X, when the text for a desktop icon is particularly long, it's displayed with an ellipsis:
How do I configure whatever I'm supposed to configure (Finder?) to display that and all text in full? (No ellipses, please!)
Edit:
I do know that you can change the icon/text/grid size to allow for more text, but I don't necessarily want to change those settings. I want to change how Apple displays the text. That is, I want it to display either as one long string (which will run into other strings if two long file/folder names are next to each other, they will appear to overlap) or word-wrapped according to the size of the grid.
My WD Elements Desktop External is no longer recognised on my main computer.
It has worked fine in the past, but now all of a sudden is not detected. It does not prompt when plugged in, nor does it show up in the disc management interface or the device manager. It appears to be aware that it is plugged in however as the light on the external blinks rapidly for a short while after being plugged in.
The strangest thing however is that it works fine on other computers, including my family computers and my laptop.
I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue by trying various USB devices in multiple ports on each system to see if there is any correlation with the issue, but have come up with nothing that gives me an idea of what is going on.
I have also attempted to format the external using my laptop, but that has not helped either.
If anyone has had a similar issue, or knows of any potential solutions, please post your advice.
Thanks for your time.
SEO can be broken down into 2 main categories, on-page optimization, and off-page optimization. On-page optimization involves the changes that are made on your actual site, like through a CMS such as MODx. Changing heading tag, title tags, alt tags, etc., are all examples of on-page optimization. Off-page involves anything and everything that isn't actually done on your site, such as social media, blogs, forums, etc.
Though those who are into Internet marketing would like to know what the future holds for them, but frankly, it is very difficult to predict this accurately. Forget about the future of SEO, actually it is very difficult to even predict the future of Internet and computers in general. For instance, if 40 years back anyone had predicted that a computer would be sitting on a table of almost every home in the country, then everyone would have thought that he or she was crazy.
Competing pages are literally the only one factor every one of the online businesses have in common, regardless of which business you're in. If you have got an online business you have joined the competition. In order to succeed, you have got to know the rules for effectively competing.
