  • Chained MSI Installers Tool

    I'm looking for a tool (preferably not InstallShield, and also preferably cheap/Free) that supports Chained MSI Installations. I've got several small installations that need to be able to be deployed separately, but also as one group, and I'd like to not have to maintain multiple installers. It looks like I need Windows Installer 4.5 to do this properly, but I can't seem to find to much info when I'm looking around for what version of Installer is supported.

  • Virtual channel tutorial for terminal services.

Virtual Channels seems to be exactly what I need but Microsoft's documentation leaves very much to be desired. Does anyone know of good tutorials or just some examples I could use to help me. Preferred language is C# but C++ examples are fine too.

  • Sending data remotely from iPhone native apps to Rails apps

    Dear all, I have decided to develop a native iPhone apps as a compliment to our webapps. Now I am wondering what are my options to send data remotely from the iPhone apps - since the database is online - to our online database. What I can think of on top of my head - since I come from web dev background - is JSON. My webapps is built using Rails, so I figure it would not be difficult to accept JSON request from the iPhone apps. But the next question is, is it difficult to send JSON data remotely from the iPhone apps? If JSON is not recommendable, what are my other options? Thank you so much for the assistance.     Hi, I have some errors in my output source code, I'm wondering if there is a tool that is able to look through the site and find which .tpl file my error is in? That, or at least give me a list of .tpls to look through. I can't seem to find this error and the site isn't very well documented.     Anyone know of a wiki or wiki plugin that generates a PDF file or CHM file that spans the entire wiki? I would like to have control of the table of contents. I would like the internal and external links to work. Ideally allow for tweaking the output template, but that is not a deal-breaker. I want to generate content using WIKI syntax and mindset (lots of cross-links etc), but ship the content in PDF, CHM or an embedded application form. Something friendlier than installing the wiki software on the enduser machine...

    Hi I have a number of legacy web controls (ascx) that contains huge amounts of inline C#. The forms contain a number of repeated and duplicate code. Our first plan is to move the code into code behinds per file, then refactor etc... were doing this to upgrade the client to the latest version of their cms At the moment we are going to have to manually copy and paste from hundreds of files, create a code behind, copy the code, add the namespaces based on the client-side imports and then do any tidying up does anybody PLEASE know of a tool that can do the majority of this work for us ?     My university is holding a quiz contest in 2 weeks, and I need some sort of software (desktop or web based) that can be used to manage the quiz. I need functionality like an admin panel for adding teams, creating matches between 2 teams, adding questions and answers. I then need the software to automatically display the questions, accept answers, and display and store results. Is there any software (open source/freeware) that I can use for this task. If a pre-built software is not available, which language+library+platform would you suggest I make the software in. It can be either web based or a desktop app. But I need it by 2 weeks. Any suggestions?

  • Source code comparison app that doesn't require files?

    I'm looking for an easy-to-use, free source code comparison app for Windows, which will highlight differences side-by-side between two pieces of source code. Some apps get close to what I want, but are too restrictive by requiring you load in entire files and compare them in their entirety. Sometimes I just want to compare a section of my file, such as a single function, which may be in totally different locations in the two versions I'd be comparing, making it hard to find in both panes in large files. Basically, I'd like to be able to simply edit/copy/paste the content in both panes rather than have the restriction of using files. That way I can copy and paste one function into one pane and another into the other, editing/re-ordering as necessary. (Note that I realize there are other comparison app recommendation threads out there, but I'm having a hard time finding a free app that isn't a strict file-to-file comparison app) Thanks for any pointers or links, thanks!

    I know that the job would be simpler if I use Google Plugin for Eclipse. However, in my situation, I heavily adapted Maven and thus, the plugin cannot suit me. (In fact, it gave me the whole week of headache). Rather, I relied on a ant script that I learned from http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/appengine.html The document was very clear; I follow the article and successfully invoked DevMode using ant devmode. However, the document didn't tell me about debugging GWT (like Google Plugin for Eclipse can do). Basically, I want to add some parameter to an ant task that expose a debug port (something like (com.google.gwt.dev.DevMode at localhost:58807)) so that I can connect my eclipse to. How can I do that?

  • iPhone - Memory Management - Using Leaks tool and getting some bizarre readings.

    Hey all, putting the finishing touches on a project of mine so I figured I would run through it and see if and where I had any memory leaks. Found and fixed most of them but there are a couple of things regarding the memory leaks and object alloc that I am confused about. 1) There are 2 memory leaks that do not show me as responsible. There are 8 leaks attributed to AudioToolbox with the function being RegisterEmbeddedAudioCodecs(). This accounts for about 1.5 kb of leaks. The other one is detected immediately when the app begins. Core Graphics is responsible with the extra info being open_handle_to_dylib_path. For the audio leak I have looked over my audio code and to me it seems ok. self.musicPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:songFilePath] error:NULL]; [musicPlayer prepareToPlay]; [musicPlayer play] is called later on in a function. 2) Is it normal for there to be a spike in Object Allocation whenever a new view or controller is presented? My total memory usage is very, very low except for whenever I present a view controller. It spikes then immediately goes back down. I am guessing that this is just the phone handling all the information for switching or something. Blegh. Wall of text. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps! =)

  • Sql Server Data Tools & Entity Framework - is there any synergy here?

    Coming out of a project using Linq2Sql, I suspect that the next (bigger) one might push me into the arms of Entity Framework. I've done some reading-up on the subject, but what I haven't managed to find is a coherent story about how SQL Server Data Tools and Entity Framework should/could/might be used together. Were they conceived totally separately, and using them together is stroking the wrong way? Are they somehow totally orthogonal and I'm missing the point? Some reasons why I think I might want both: SSDT is great for having 'compiled' (checked) and easily versionable sql and schema But the SSDT 'migration/update' story is not convincing (to me): "Update anything" works ok for schema, but there's no way (AFAIK) that it can ever work for data. On the other hand, I haven't tried the EF migration to know if it presents similar problems, but the Up/Down bits look quite handy.

    As a embedded systems programmer I always need to make lots of base conversions (dec to hex, hex to bin and so on...), and I must admit: Windows 7 calculator is a good calc, but too limited in my point of view. I work a lot with communications protocols and it`s common to need some base conversion in this field of knowledge. I`m looking for a calculator software (not a hardware one), to help with base conversions, but it must also support scientific calc. Can anyone help on this? Since this subject is intended to help programmers, I did not ask this in SuperUser.com. Thanks.

  • Does any one know of a packet generator?

    We have a networked device, and we would like to perform some tests on how it handles malformed packets. Is there a product out there that can generate arbitrary packets and packet sequences? I would like to be able to specify a set of TCP/IP payloads and it would open a connection and send the data. Obviouly, the TCP/IP checksum should be calculated correctly, etc... Kind of like a wireshark in reverse. Note that I am not interested in network loading and blasting millions of packet.
