I am trying to connect to my webserver via ssh but I can't. When I insert the password then the terminal is blocked. This is what I see:

Why ?
In iptables there are no rules.

My university is holding a quiz contest in 2 weeks, and I need some sort of software (desktop or web based) that can be used to manage the quiz. I need functionality like an admin panel for adding teams, creating matches between 2 teams, adding questions and answers. I then need the software to automatically display the questions, accept answers, and display and store results. Is there any software (open source/freeware) that I can use for this task.
If a pre-built software is not available, which language+library+platform would you suggest I make the software in. It can be either web based or a desktop app. But I need it by 2 weeks. Any suggestions?
I have read these related questions:
I'm a Subversion geek, why should I consider or not consider Mercurial or Git or any other DVCS?
git for personal (one-man) projects. Overkill?
...and I understand why git is useful. What I don't understand is why tools like git-svn that allow git to integrate with svn are useful.
When, for example, a team is working with svn, or any other centralised SCM, why would a member of the team opt to use git-svn? Are there any practical advantages for a developer that has to synchronize with a centralized repository?
I'm looking for an easy-to-use, free source code comparison app for Windows, which will highlight differences side-by-side between two pieces of source code. Some apps get close to what I want, but are too restrictive by requiring you load in entire files and compare them in their entirety. Sometimes I just want to compare a section of my file, such as a single function, which may be in totally different locations in the two versions I'd be comparing, making it hard to find in both panes in large files. Basically, I'd like to be able to simply edit/copy/paste the content in both panes rather than have the restriction of using files. That way I can copy and paste one function into one pane and another into the other, editing/re-ordering as necessary.
(Note that I realize there are other comparison app recommendation threads out there, but I'm having a hard time finding a free app that isn't a strict file-to-file comparison app)
Thanks for any pointers or links, thanks!
I have a list of galleries, when you click on the title of a gallery it pulls in the contents (HTML with images).
When the content is pulled in it preloads the html but not the images, any ideas?
This is the JavaScript i'm using:
$('#ajax-load').ajaxStart(function() {
$(this).show();
}).ajaxStop(function() { $(this).hide();});
// PORTFOLIO SECTION
// Hide project details on load
$('.project > .details').hide();
// Slide details up / down on click
$('.ajax > .header').click(function () {
if ($(this).siblings(".details").is(":hidden")) {
var detailUrl = $(this).find("a").attr("href");
var $details = $(this).siblings(".details");
$.ajax({
url: detailUrl,
data: "",
type: "GET",
success: function(data) {
$details.empty();
$details.html(data);
$details.find("ul.project-nav").tabs($details.find(".pane"), {effect: 'fade'});
$details.slideDown("slow");
}});
}
else {$(this).siblings(".details").slideUp();}
return false;
});

I know that the job would be simpler if I use Google Plugin for Eclipse.
However, in my situation, I heavily adapted Maven and thus, the plugin cannot suit me. (In fact, it gave me the whole week of headache).
Rather, I relied on a ant script that I learned from http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/appengine.html
The document was very clear; I follow the article and successfully invoked DevMode using ant devmode. However, the document didn't tell me about debugging GWT (like Google Plugin for Eclipse can do).
Basically, I want to add some parameter to an ant task that expose a debug port (something like (com.google.gwt.dev.DevMode at localhost:58807)) so that I can connect my eclipse to.
How can I do that?
Hi All,
What firefox plugins could you not live without, as relates to webdev?
My list would be:
DBGBar
Dom Inspector
Firebug
Firecookie
Google toolbar (useful for seo)
Live HTTP
ReloadEvery
TamperData
Web Developer
I am always on the lookout for new ones though, so I wonder if anyone knows of any great ones that I may have missed?
Title says it. What's the best tool for viewing and editing a merge in Git? I'd like to get a 3-way merge view, with "mine", "theirs" and "output" in separate panels.
Also, instructions for invoking said tool would be great. (I still haven't figure out how to start kdiff3 in such a way that it doesn't give me an error)
edit: My OS is Ubuntu.
Anyone know of a wiki or wiki plugin that generates a PDF file or CHM file that spans the entire wiki?
I would like to have control of the table of contents.
I would like the internal and external links to work.
Ideally allow for tweaking the output template, but that is not a deal-breaker.
I want to generate content using WIKI syntax and mindset (lots of cross-links etc), but ship the content in PDF, CHM or an embedded application form. Something friendlier than installing the wiki software on the enduser machine...
I'm looking for a tool (preferably not InstallShield, and also preferably cheap/Free) that supports Chained MSI Installations. I've got several small installations that need to be able to be deployed separately, but also as one group, and I'd like to not have to maintain multiple installers.
It looks like I need Windows Installer 4.5 to do this properly, but I can't seem to find to much info when I'm looking around for what version of Installer is supported.
I've been a PHP web developer for about 2 and a half years now. I have started using CodeIgniter framework to shorten development process a while ago. I developed 4 websites using CodeIgniter. It has been really tiring and boring due to code-repetition.
Code repetition was vast on form handling functions in controllers.So in my last project , i developed a general form input handling function.This lead a realisation that it could get even faster by more automation.
What i think i lack in my development is using CRUD & Code Generation tools. But i am wondering if there is any other utilities that shortens development process.
Which web development language or framework more inclined towards code generation utilities?
Hi, I have some errors in my output source code, I'm wondering if there is a tool that is able to look through the site and find which .tpl file my error is in? That, or at least give me a list of .tpls to look through. I can't seem to find this error and the site isn't very well documented. I'm not the best PHP programmer, I'd be looking for an online resource or something pretty simple.
Thanks very much.
I'm trying to find a tool to check for coding style in python.
For php I've seen there is the Code Sniffer, and a small perl script used by Drupal. Is there such a tool for python code?
Thanks
Coming out of a project using Linq2Sql, I suspect that the next (bigger) one might push me into the arms of Entity Framework. I've done some reading-up on the subject, but what I haven't managed to find is a coherent story about how SQL Server Data Tools and Entity Framework should/could/might be used together.
Were they conceived totally separately, and using them together is stroking the wrong way?
Are they somehow totally orthogonal and I'm missing the point?
Some reasons why I think I might want both:
SSDT is great for having 'compiled' (checked) and easily versionable sql and schema
But the SSDT 'migration/update' story is not convincing (to me): "Update anything" works ok for schema, but there's no way (AFAIK) that it can ever work for data.
On the other hand, I haven't tried the EF migration to know if it presents similar problems, but the Up/Down bits look quite handy.

Hi
I have a number of legacy web controls (ascx) that contains huge amounts of inline C#. The forms contain a number of repeated and duplicate code. Our first plan is to move the code into code behinds per file, then refactor etc... were doing this to upgrade the client to the latest version of their cms
At the moment we are going to have to manually copy and paste from hundreds of files, create a code behind, copy the code, add the namespaces based on the client-side imports and then do any tidying up
does anybody PLEASE know of a tool that can do the majority of this work for us ?
Thanks
I've been using the free naggy version of Smart FTP for a while. It's very good, but then it became shareware only.
So I was wondering, are there any other good FTP clients for Windows?
The ones I tried but didn't like was:
CoreFTP
FileZilla (this one was especially bad :( )
On OS X I use this command to convert a sound file to CAFF for iPhone.
afconvert -f caff -d LEI16@44100 file.wav file.caf
I need to do the same on a Windows box.
Any clues?
I'd even settle for a Linux version.
