  • What does "===" mean?

    I recently studied some code that I'm supposed to use for different reasons, it's unrelevant. The thing I've noticed is someone using the operator "===" which I can't make sense out of. I've tried it with a function and it corresponds in crazy ways. The language is PHP by the way. Does anyone know what the definition of this operator is, I can't even find it in the declaration of php operators.

  • Disappearing IE6 elements.

    I don't know what could be causing this issue, but for some reason, elements on my page (list navigation items, specifically), are disappearing in IE6. That is, from IE developer toolbar, I can see that the elements are there, and the DOM/css is correct, but the elements just aren't visible. The odd thing is that if you set or toggle ANY css element on the list items with the IE6 toolbar, the elements appear. I also have a hover() jQuery action set on the list navigation items, and the event fires as if the elements were visible and working correctly. What could possibly be going wrong here? I initially thought z-index could be an issue, but changing ANY attribute or css value (not necessarily z-index), causes the element to render. I should note, however, that doing this programmatically does not cause the elements to display properly, even if triggered seconds after the page load.

  • SELinux, Fedora, and Trusted Applet crashing?

    For some reason, if I run Firefox 3.5.x under Fedora 11 with SELinux enabled, my browser crashes when I attempt to embed the applet dynamically. Under Windows, Ubuntu, and Mac, the user is prompted to trust the signer and then trust the executing java applet, but under Fedora, I never see this prompt. If I disable SELinux, I get NO prompting, and the applet embeds without any notice whatsoever! Remembering that trusted applets can execute user programs and manipulate user data, this becomes quite a nightmare. Has anyone else had to deal with SELinux and Fedora/SuSE/Linux and trusted applets before? If so, how did you overcome this broken behavior?

    Does anyone know of a good tutorial on the distinction between the MPMoviePlayer vs AVAudioPlayer vs MPMusicPlayer? I want to play audio from an mp3 file available at an external URL. Ideally it is played in an iPod-like audio view. I toyed with MPMoviePlayer but it appears to be more suitable for video, as when audio starts a "movie playing" message displays, the controls disappear and a white quicktime splash page displays. I would like the standard ipod audio controls to display all the time, and to customize the image behind them.

    I would like to add a prefix to each django comment form. I'm using multiply comment forms in the same page and depsite it's working well, i don't like having many input fields with the same id attribute like <input type="text" name="honeypot" id="id_honeypot" />. So, is there a way to tell django do add a prefix to each form instance? I know i can do it with other forms when i create a form instance in this waynewform = CustomForm(prefix="a") but using Django's comment system, this part is handled by a comment template tag {% get_comment_form for [object] as [varname] %}. Can I tell to the template tag to add a prefix?

  • Writing language converter in ANTLR

    I'm writing a converter between some dialects of the same programming language. I've found a grammar on the net - it's complex and handles all the cases. Now I'm trying to write the appropriate actions. Most of the input is just going to be rewritten to output. What I need to do is parse function calls, do my magic (rename function, reorder arguments, etc) and write it. I'm using AST as output. When I come across a function call, I build a custom object structure (from classes defined in my target language), call the appropriate function and I have a string that represents the transformed function that I want to get. The problem is, what I'm supposed to do with that string? I'd like to replace the .text attribute of the enclosing rule, but setText() is only available on lexer rules and the rule's .text attribute is read-only.   • Write STDOUT & STDERR to a logfile, also write STDERR to screen

    I would like to run several commands, and capture all output to a logfile. I also want to print any errors to the screen (or optionally mail the output to someone). Here's an example. The following command will run three commands, and will write all output (STDOUT and STDERR) into a single logfile. { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } > logfile.log 2>&1 Here is what I want to do with the output of these commands: STDERR and STDOUT for all commands goes to a logfile, in case I need it later--- I usually won't look in here unless there are problems. Print STDERR to the screen (or optionally, pipe to /bin/mail), so that any error stands out and doesn't get ignored. It would be nice if the return codes were still usable, so that I could do some error handling. Maybe I want to send email if there was an error, like this: { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } logfile.log 2&1 || mailx -s "There was an error" [email protected] The problem I run into is that STDERR loses context during I/O redirection. A '2&1' will convert STDERR into STDOUT, and therefore I cannot view errors if I do 2 error.log Here are a couple juicier examples.   • Reporting tool for OLAP, *not* OLTP!

    I'm looking for a control that I can put on top of an already existing OLAP star schema to allow the user to define their own "queries" and generate reports. Right now I have some predefined reports built on top of the cubes, but I'd like to allow the user to define their own criteria based on the cubes that I've created. I've found lots of products that will allow you to treat a transactional table like an OLAP cube, but nothing specifically for pre-existing cubes. EDIT: Let me be clear, I know there are countless reporting tools out there that claim to report on OLAP cubes. The problem is they all assume they are looking at transactional data and try to create their own cubes. I have tables that contain tens, if not hundreds of millions of records. Most tools crash when handling this much data, the others just run incredible slowly. I don't want a tool that is targeting the business people. I want a tool that understands what a star and snowflake schema is. I want to be able to tell it what the fact tables are and what the dimension tables are, and then creates a UI on top of them. This is an easier problem to solve for the tool vendor because I am spoon feeding them the cubes. I want to rely on the fact that cubes are a standardized pattern and I want a tool that takes advantage of this fact. I want a tool that targets developers and starts with the assumption that I actually know how to manage my data, it just needs to build pretty reports for me and not crumble under the weight of my data.

    I know that the job would be simpler if I use Google Plugin for Eclipse. However, in my situation, I heavily adapted Maven and thus, the plugin cannot suit me. (In fact, it gave me the whole week of headache). Rather, I relied on a ant script that I learned from http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/appengine.html The document was very clear; I follow the article and successfully invoked DevMode using ant devmode. However, the document didn't tell me about debugging GWT (like Google Plugin for Eclipse can do). Basically, I want to add some parameter to an ant task that expose a debug port (something like (com.google.gwt.dev.DevMode at localhost:58807)) so that I can connect my eclipse to. How can I do that?

I tried setting width:auto on the TD holding the inner table, and table-layout:fixed isn't viable because the tabular data is generated dynamically. What could be going wrong?

    Hello Stackoverflowers! :) Today I have a special question on Silverlight (4 RC) MVVM and inheritance concepts and looking for a best practice solution... I think that i understand the basic idea and concepts behind MVVM. My Model doesn't know anything about the ViewModel as the ViewModel itself doesn't know about the View. The ViewModel knows the Model and the Views know the ViewModels. Imagine the following basic (example) scenario (I'm trying to keep anything short and simple): My Model contains a ProductBase class with a few basic properties, a SimpleProduct : ProductBase adding a few more Properties and ExtendedProduct : ProductBase adding another properties. According to this Model I have several ViewModels, most essential SimpleProductViewModel : ViewModelBase and ExtendedProductViewModel : ViewModelBase. Last but not least, according Views SimpleProductView and ExtendedProductView. In future, I might add many product types (and matching Views + VMs). 1. How do i know which ViewModel to create when receiving a Model collection? After calling my data provider method, it will finally end up having a List<ProductBase>. It containts, for example, one SimpleProduct and two ExtendedProducts. How can I transform the results to an ObservableCollection<ViewModelBase> having the proper ViewModel types (one SimpleProductViewModel and two ExtendedProductViewModels) in it? I might check for Model type and construct the ViewModel accordingly, i.e. foreach(ProductBase currentProductBase in resultList) if (currentProductBase is SimpleProduct) viewModels.Add( new SimpleProductViewModel((SimpleProduct)currentProductBase)); else if (currentProductBase is ExtendedProduct) viewModels.Add( new ExtendedProductViewModels((ExtendedProduct)currentProductBase)); ... } ...but I consider this very bad practice as this code doesn't follow the object oriented design. The other way round, providing abstract Factory methods would reduce the code to: foreach(ProductBase currentProductBase in resultList) viewModels.Add(currentProductBase.CreateViewModel()) and would be perfectly extensible but since the Model doesn't know the ViewModels, that's not possible. I might bring interfaces into game here, but I haven't seen such approach proven yet. 2. How do i know which View to display when selecting a ViewModel? This is pretty the same problem, but on a higher level. Ended up finally having the desired ObservableCollection<ViewModelBase> collection would require the main view to choose a matching View for the ViewModel. In WPF, there is a DataTemplate concept which can supply a View upon a defined DataType. Unfortunately, this doesn't work in Silverlight and the only replacement I've found was the ResourceSelector of the SLExtensions toolkit which is buggy and not satisfying. Beside that, all problems from Question 1 apply as well. Do you have some hints or even a solution for the problems I describe, which you hopefully can understand from my explanation?   • How do I Extend Blogengine.Net to collect statistics of visitors?

    I love BlogEngine. But from what I can se it does not collect the standard information about the visitors I would like to see (referrer, browser-type and so on). When I log in as Admin I have a menu item named "Referrer". I can choose a weekday and then I'll be presented with 1 or 2 rows with "google.com 4 hits, "itmaskinen.se 6 hits" and so on, But that's not what I want to se, I want to se where my visitors come from, country, IP if possible, how many visitors and so on. If someone of you are familiar with Blogengine.Net and can point me in the right direction to where I would put my own log-code or if you know any visitor-statistic-extension that can do it for me, I would be really happy to know. I prefer an extension, because if I make changes myself to BlogEngine it may break later updates I install.
