  • abstract test case using python unittest

    Is it possible to create an abstract TestCase, that will have some test_* methods, but this TestCase won't be called and those methods will only be used in subclasses? I think I am going to have one abstract TestCase in my test suite and it will be subclassed for a few different implementation of a single interface. This is why all test methods are the some, only one, internal method changes. How can I do it in elegant way?

  • How to test an application for correct encoding (e.g. UTF-8)

    Encoding issues are among the one topic that have bitten me most often during development. Every platform insists on its own encoding, most likely some non-UTF-8 defaults are in the game. (I'm usually working on Linux, defaulting to UTF-8, my colleagues mostly work on german Windows, defaulting to ISO-8859-1 or some similar windows codepage) I believe, that UTF-8 is a suitable standard for developing an i18nable application. However, in my experience encoding bugs are usually discovered late (even though I'm located in Germany and we have some special characters that along with ISO-8859-1 provide some detectable differences). I believe that those developers with a completely non-ASCII character set (or those that know a language that uses such a character set) are getting a head start in providing test data. But there must be a way to ease this for the rest of us as well. What [technique|tool|incentive] are people here using? How do you get your co-developers to care for these issues? How do you test for compliance? Are those tests conducted manually or automatically? Adding one possible answer upfront: I've recently discovered fliptitle.com (they are providing an easy way to get weird characters written "u?op ?pisdn" *) and I'm planning on using them to provide easily verifiable UTF-8 character strings (as most of the characters used there are at some weird binary encoding position) but there surely must be more systematic tests, patterns or techniques for ensuring UTF-8 compatibility/usage. Note: Even though there's an accepted answer, I'd like to know of more techniques and patterns if there are some. Please add more answers if you have more ideas. And it has not been easy choosing only one answer for acceptance. I've chosen the regexp answer for the least expected angle to tackle the problem although there would be reasons to choose other answers as well. Too bad only one answer can be accepted. The problem is I only want the inner div to scrollTo and the outer div to remain at the top of the screen.   • Using TSQLUnit to test INSTEAD OF triggers

    I have an INSTEAD OF trigger on a table in my SQL Server 2005 database that checks several incoming values. If an incoming value is invalid, an error is raised and the transaction is rolled back. Otherwise the record is inserted. I would like to include a TSQLUnit test of this trigger where, if an invalid value is inserted, having the transaction rolled back is the successful outcome of the test. I have created a test procedure to do this, but rolling back the transaction aborts execution of the whole suite of tests. Has anyone had success with this? If so, how did you accomplish it? If this is not possible with TSQLUnit, how do you test your triggers? Or do you test them at all?

  • How to set up Flex Unit 4

    Does anyone know of any guides or any sort of documentation on how to set up the new Flex Builder 4 beta? I've been pulling my hair all day long, none of my tests are executed and I can't for the life of me understand what's wrong. There are no errors at all. It's as if the metadata tags are not recognized, is there some special compiler argument to recognize them? I seem to remember that this is not necessary as long as the swc files that are included were compiled with said arguments. I'm using Beta 1 of Flex Unit 4 which can be found here: http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexunit/FlexUnit+4+feature+overview I'm actually using the very same code that is included with that package to run the tests, but no tests are executed. Neither mine nor the ones included in the FU4 package. The lack of documentation certainly doesn't help much...

    I'm using the zend modular director structure, i.e. application modules users controllers . . lessons reports blog I have a unit test for a controller in 'blog' that goes something like the below section of code: I'm definitely doing something very wrong, or missing something - as when i run the test, i get no error, no success message (that goes usually like ...OK (2 tests, 2 assertions)). I get all the text from layout.phtml, where i have the global site layout. This is my first endeavor writing a unittest for zend-M-V-C structure so probably I'm missing something important?   • Should tests be self written in TDD?

    We run a project, which we want to solve with test driven development. I thought about some questions that came up, when initiating the project. One question was, who should write the unit-test for a feature. Should the unit-test be written by the feature-implementing programmer? Or should the unit test be written by another programmer, who defines what a method should do and the feature-implementing programmer implements the method until the tests runs? If i understand the concept of TDD in the right way. The feature-implementing programmer has to write the test by himself, because TDD is procedure with mini-iterations. So it would be too complex to have the tests written by another programmer? What would you say, should the tests in TDD written by the programmer himself or should another programmer write the tests that describes what a method can do?

  • Unit test with live data

    Hey, I have googled this a little and didn't really find the answer I needed. I am working on a webpage in C# with MSSQL and LINQ for a customer. I want the users to be able to send messages to each other. So what I do is that I unit test this with live data. The problem is that I now depend on having at least 2 users who I know the ID of. Furthermore I have to clean up after my self. This leads to rather large unit tests that test alot in one test. Lets say I would like to update a user. That would mean that I would have to ceate the user, update it, and then delete it. This a lot of assertions in one unit test and if it fails with updating i have to manually delete it. If I would do it any other way, without live data, I would not fore sure be able to know that the data was present in the database after updating etc. What is the proper way to do this without having a test that tests a lot of functuality by it self?

I have a problem when Travis CI run multiple python tests (of the The Travis CI Build Matrix) concurrently. Is there any option to specify to The Build Matrix the execution of each python version in a secuential way? Or maybe, Is there a better way to do this?

When the user clicks the hyperlink I'm trying to close the parent dialog (the dialog that this content is in) but it's not doing anything. I know that the alert gets hit and that there is an object for parent.$('#dialog'); so not sure why it won't close the parent dialog

Is there a better way to do this, while preserving correct AAA order?

My model is something like: var my_model = kendo.observable({ ds: new kendo.data.DataSource({ transport: { read: readData, update: updateData, create: updateData, remove: updateData }, pageSize: 10, schema: { model: { id: "id", fields: { id: { type: "number" }, name: { type: "string" }, active: { type: "boolean" } } } } }) }); Each item includes an id, a name (that is a string) and a boolean named active. The template used to render each element is: <script id="list-tmpl" type="text/kendo-tmpl"> <span>#= name # : #= active #</span> <input data-role="switch" data-bind="checked: active"/> </script> Where I display the name and (for debugging) the value of active. In addition, I render a switch bound to active. You should see something like: The problems observed are: If you click on a switch you will see that the value of active next to the name changes its value (as expected) but if then, you pick another switch, the value (neither next to name nor in the DataSource) is not updated (despite the value of the switch is correctly updated). The update handler in the DataSource is never invoked (not even for the first chosen switch and despite the DataSource for that first toggled switch is updated).   • Iphone CATextLayer doesn't show it's text.

    Here is my new bee issue: I was simply trying to add a CATextlayer in an UIView layer. However, according to the following code, I only get the CATextlayer's background color be displayed in the UIView, without any text. Just wonder what did I missed to display the text.     I am doing my first steps with TDD. The problem is (as probably with everyone starting with TDD), I never know very well what kind of unit tests to do when I start working in my projects. Let's assume I want to write a Stack class with the following methods(I choose it as it's an easy example): Stack<T> - Push(element : T) - Pop() : T - Seek() : T - Count : int - IsEmpty : boolean How would you approch this? I never understood if the idea is to test a few corner cases for each method of the Stack class or start by doing a few "use cases" with the class, like adding 10 elements and removing them. What is the idea? To make code that uses the Stack as close as possible to what I'll use in my real code? Or just make simple "add one element" unit tests where I test if IsEmpty and Count were changed by adding that element? How am I supposed to start with this?

    If a JFrame has a JDialog modal open, the JDialog is animated (the borders and title bar have a lighter colour) if any other part of the application is clicked other than the JDialog with focus. The user is made aware of the window in focus to attend to first. I have a Swing application with custom dialogs, setUndecorated(true) and custom title bars. Is it possible to implement the behaviour described above for these custome dialogs?

  • Easiest way to create twitter-like status update widget

    I want a widget that allows users to add a request if that request hasnt already been added, or vote for a request if it has already been added. when a user adds a request, i want it to immediately appear as the first element of the list, like what would happen to your timeline if you made new tweet. ive tried to look for a jquery plugin that offers this functionality, but i was unsuccessful (maybe i couldnt think of the right terms to search for??). i dont have enough faith in my js skills to write this from scratch, so id rather find a template to start with.   • jqueryUI dialog box header size

    Hi, I am creating hotel booking system which requires lots of modal dialogs. For this purpose I am using jqueryUI dialog widget. yesterday I embedded it on one of the features of application but this time when dialog opens upon click then its Header is very large about 300-400px in height where as normal header is about 40px in height. Everywhere in the application it is still working fine but at only place it is giving such error. Css is also identical at all places. If anybody knows how to fix this issue then please post here.
