  • How to get the path of a shortcut (NOT target path) in .net?

    Hello world! I have an .exe application written in vb.net. When I make shortcuts to the application, say on desktop (or anywhere else) and then click on them I want to programatically get the path to that shortcut, ie. C:/Users/xxx/Desktop/shortcut.lnk. I want this so I can store the pairs shortcuts : (program + different cmd args).

  • Should I invest time in learning Java language these days? (question from a greenhorn)

    Hi experts, Assuming you've already had a chance to look through the lambda syntax proposed for Java7 (and the other things that have happened with Java, after Oracle has bought Sun + obvious problems in Java Community Process), what do you think is the future of Java language? Should I, as a Java greenhorn, invest time in learning Java language (not talking about the core JVM, which definitely will survive anything, and worth investments), or concentrate on Scala, Groovy, or other hybrid languages on the JVM platform (I've came into Java world from PHP/Ruby).     I'm from a WinAPI / C++ background, and I'm curious as to what the Java world uses in place of a threaded message loop in a worker thread to handle communications and interactions between threads. The idea is to use a message pump in both the worker thread, and the main thread, and have them posting messages back and forth. This solution is very WinAPI / C++ centric, and probably not the preferred method of achieving this goal in Java. What is the 'Java' way to do something like this?

  • How many colunms in table to keep? - MySQL

    I am stuck between row vs colunms table design for storing some items but the decision is which table is easier to manage and if colunms then how many colunms are best to have? For example I have object meta data, ideally there are 45 pieces of information (after being normalized) on the same level that i need to store per object. So is 45 colunms in a heavry read/write table good? Can it work flawless in a real world situation of heavy concurrent read/writes?

    I have an interface named PropertyFilter which used to take a Propertyand decide if accepts it or not. And the world was good. But now the interface changed, so that implementations may choose to add additional Propertys. For example a Customer property might get expanded into Name and Address properties. I think it is obvious this is not a Filter anymore, but how would you call such a thing?

    Anyone have numbers on how many machines / % of internet uses have Google Native Client? I'm curious about google NaCL as a platform: it seems to combine the best of the web (just a webpage, accessible on any machine) and desktop apps (OpenGL, C/C++ power).     I just realized that you can't just use an if statement on a function, for example this doesn't work: function sayHello() { echo "Hello World"; } if(sayHello()) echo "Function Worked"; else echo "Function Failed"; I also saw that a function can't be put as the value of a variable. So how can I do an if statement to check if a function has executed properly and display it to the browser?

  • KDevelop has no build menu.

    I have just installed KDevelop on my Ubuntu machine (KDevelop 3.9.95 on Ubuntu 9.10) with sudo apt-get install kdevelop I created a new project with the "Hello World" program in it, but there doesn't appear to be any way to compile anything. The manuals refer to the build menu but there isn't one, all all compile options on the other menus are greyed out. Does anyone know what I have done wrong?
