• Which is the best alternative for Java Serialization?

  I'm currently working on a project which needs to persist any kind of objects (of which implementation we don't have any control) so these objects could be recovered afterwards. We can't implement a ORM because we can't restrict the users of our library at development time. Our first alternative was to serialize it with the Java default serialization but we had a lot of trouble recovering the objects when the users started to pass different versions of the same object (attributes changed types, names, ...). We have tried with the XMLEncoder class (transforms an object into a XML), but we have found that there is a lack of functionality (doesn't support Enums for example). Finally, we also tried JAXB but this impose our users to annotate their classes. Any good alternative?

  Can you use XMLCatalog to resolve xsds in schema import statements? If so, what is the preferred/best practice? I want to package the xsds in a jar, so using a relative schemaLocation has not worked. • Looking for the most painless non-RDBMS storage method in C#

  I'm writing a simple program that will run entirely client-side. (Desktop programming? do people still do that?) and I need a simple way to store trivial amounts of data in a structured form, but really don't see any need to use a database system. What's more, some of the data needs to be serialized and passed around to different users, like some kind of "file" or perhaps a "document". (has anyone ever done that before?) So, I've looked at using .Net DataSets, LINQ, direct XML manipulation, and they all seem like they would get the job done, but I would like to know before I dive into any of them if there's one method that is generally regarded as easier to code than others. As I said, the amount of data to be stored is trivial, even if one hundred people all used the same machine we're not talking about more than 10 MB, so performance is not as large a concern as is codeability/maintainability.   I've been developing a Silverlight application for a company's website and have encountered a problem. Up until now I have been programming this locally, now I need to publish the program onto the website; the issue is that FileStream can only access local files with elevated permissions. XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(ItemCollection)); using (FileStream f = File.Create(fileName)) serializer.Serialize(f, items); Upon looking at the resulting XML I see that the ItemCollection.Name value is not there! I think what may be happening is that the serializer sees the ItemCollection type as a simple Collection thus ignoring any other added properties... Now, we want to be able to generate this data through Excel, so that non techie people can create it...   Hello, Is there a way in vb.net to create a sub/function that will take as an argument some kind of pointer to another function, and allow this new sub/function to execute the passed function? What I have are 10-12 xml-rpc functions I am calling against a remote server. Each of these functions has different argument lists (one takes 1 string, another might take 3 strings and one int, etc). All of them return an object. As I am calling these, it seems like it should be able to be factored better. For instance, everytime I call any of these functions, I want to test the return value for a session drop, and do something to try and reconnect to the remote system, etc. Using .net 3.5 Thanks! -R

Here's the final structure I want: <garage> <car>Firebird</car> <car>Prius</car> <car>Altima</car> </garage> So given the C# code: XmlNode priusNode = GetReferenceToPriusNode() What's the best way to cause the priusNode to "move up" one place in the garage's child list?   From the MusicBrainz REST service, I get the following xml: <artist-list offset="0" count="59"> <artist type="Person" id="xxxxx" ext:score="100"> ... Using WCF and XmlSerializationFormat, I'm able to get the type and id attributes... but How do I get the "ext:score" one? This works: public class Artist { [XmlAttribute("id")] public string ID { get; set; } [XmlAttribute("type")] public ArtistType Type { get; set; } But this doesnt: [XmlAttribute("ext:score")] public string Score { get; set; } It produces a serialization exception. I've also tried just using "score", but it doesn't work. Any help?

• Populating <validuser/> field in WorkItem

  Hi I've created a new WorkItem named Project that contains a field named business owner which can be any domain user. The field was created using the WorkItem XML syntax using the tag. I have a problem that only TFS valid users (as the name suggests :)) show up the the combobox in the Visual Studio form. Is there any way for me to let that box contain all domain users without having to give all users some tfs read access ? If not then what is the minimum access that I can apply in TFS that I can give to all domain users ? Or is there some other way that I can't notice ?

  Ok so the scenario is as follows: Have a sharepoint site setup on Microsoft Online, basically this site is a job booking system and is based on a custom sharepoint list. What I am trying to achieve is to extract List Items where the Invoiced Column is set to "No". Eventually I would like to post this to xero.com using their API as it accepts XML through the API Endpoints. Have tried using JQuery and JPoint but my limited programming skills are holding me back. Could anyone offer me some advice or point me in the right direction of someone that could help? am willing to pay someone if they can help me with getting this to work :)

• How do I prevent JAXB from binding superclass methods of the @XmlRootElement when marshalling?

  I have a class that is annotated as the @XmlRootElement with @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.NONE). The problem that I am having is that the superclass's methods are being bound, when I do not want them to be bound, and cannot update the class. I am hoping there is an annotation that I can put on the root element class to prevent this from happening. Example: @XmlRootElement @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.NONE) public class Person extends NamedObject { @XmlElement public String getId() { ... } } I would expect that only the methods annotated @XmlElement on Person would be bound and marshalled, but the superclass's methods are all being bound, as well. The resulting XML then has too much information. How do I prevent the superclass's methods from being bound without having to annotate the superclass, itself?

• Weird behaviour of a deserialized class

  I've got a huge XML file that's being deserialized by XmlSerializer in an XSD-generated class structure. Everything used to work just fine, but now a weird thing started happening. Sometimes (50% of runs) a field of a certain object of a class that's deep in the class tree just changes to a certain value of the same field of a different object of the same class. It happens when entering some function, when debugger steps from opening "{" to the first line of code. I understand that it's stupid question, but maybe someone have any thoughts?

  The input XML tag must be validated for a pattern which is like this: type : positive int / decimal, minimum length is 0, max length is 12(before decimal point), fraction digits are optional if exist then precision must be 2. This means both positive integer and Decimal numbers(2 digit precision) are allowed. so the acceptable values can be like, null, 0, 0.00, 1234567890, 123456789012, 123456789012.12, invalid values are: 0.000, 1234567890123(13 digits - invalid), The pattern I have designed is: <xs:pattern value="|([0-9]){12}|([0-9]){12}[.][0-9][0-9]"/> The problem with this pattern is, it doesn't allow the number with string-length less than 12, it says "1234567890" is an invalid value, where as it must be allowed!

What is the best strategy to store a todo item?
